Other Tucson figures to join first lady at SOTU

At his press briefing, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced that joining Daniel Hernandez in the first lady's box at tomorrow's State of the Union will be other figures from the Tucson tragedy: the family of Christina-Taylor Green and also Dr. Peter Rhee, one of Rep. Giffords' doctors.

What a warm & wonderful gesture to those affected by a horrific act of violence!

Personally, I can't wait to see the Orange Man casting a 'glow' behind President Obama!

Biden better bring some sunglasses! lol

Let the sunshine...

Yes, it is a kind gesture.

Bob Schieffer had another good commentary yesterday. He talked about the President's Tucson speech--he pointed out how wrong it was for the pundits to immediately start talking poll numbers and how the speech probably played into Pres Obama's rising numbers. He felt they were ignoring the importance of President Obama's speech which was not meant to nor did it have anything to do with polls. He said the media had immediately moved off the message of coming together and back to politics as usual.

Should be an interesting State of the Union address tonight considering the makeup of the new Congress and the recent incidents in Tucson. What am I hoping to hear? How to continue growing our economy without growing the deficit. As expected, we are on an upswing in the economic cycle. Let's try to keep improving it. I'd love to hear some ideas on deficit reduction. I think that once the economy starts gaining steam, and I think it's on its way, we can get more serious about reducing the budget deficit. I think the poll results cited earlier are quite eye opening. People just think that by "reducing waste" or "taxing the rich" we can erase the deficit and eventually the debt. But, those two ideas aren't nearly enough and at some point we are going to have to make some tough choices involving Medicare, Social Security, Defense, and middle class taxes. Problem is that as we all know, no politician in their right mind is willing to touch any of those as it would be political suicide. There are definitely some good ideas that came out of the Deficit Commission..and I think something bi-partisan like that is the best chance. I'd also like to hear more lines out of the President that get both parties out of their chairs and applauding. Nothing's going to get done now without bipartisanship, so hopefully he can set the tone tonight. Hey, the last time we had a Dem president and GOP Congress, the economy went nuts...I wouldn't mind that happening again!

Definitely a nice gesture to bring some of those affected by and involved in this tragedy to the SOTU. Hopefully everyone involved continues to show improvement.

Sorry bout your Bears Feisty...but I just can't root for the Steelers being a Ravens fan!! ;-)

Frank---I can arrange for a temporary visa for you to be a member of Steeler Nation. Look at it this way----better for the Ravens to lose to the eventual Super Bowl champs plus we draft 1 spot lower!

I think that you are right that a really serious discussion about deficit reduction will be needed--something beyond "cutting waste".

    'Tuesday night SOTUS.'

Maybe he meant the prequel. I'm sure Bachmannhas it written already, regardless of what will actually be said tomorrow night.
