Rep. Chris Murphy announces bid to replace Lieberman

Yes, the 2012 election apparently is upon us already.

With the announcement that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I/D-CT) would not seek reelection, Connecticut already has two Democrats officially vying to replace him.

First, it was former state Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz. Now, it's Rep. Chris Murphy. Murphy released an announcement video, in which he pledges to respond to every single constituent phone call, e-mail, and note.

Here's the video:

On Murphy's entry, Bysiewicz released this statement:

“I welcome Congressman Murphy to the race. I look forward to a spirited discussion of the issues over the course of this campaign, focused on creating jobs right here in Connecticut.”

I'm not very well versed in CT politics...is there anyone that the GOP can nominate in the state that could be competitive? This would seem to be a pretty safe "hold" for the Dems otherwise. (And no...Linda McMahon does NOT count).

I hear Christine O'Donnell is looking for something to do these days... lol

After all, the 'teenage witch' did raise 7 million bucks last time around... go figure!

Sorry Grimey, but this is one state that will remain TRUE blue! ;o)

    Hey Feisty...

LOL...I'm hoping Christine O'Donnell stays right where she is and stays quiet! Yeah...I wouldn't hold out much hope for the GOP getting this seat unless there's someone on the bench. Isn't the former Governor a Republican?

They (the Republicans) would need someone that is a proffesional campaigner, and is mildly into witchcraft. Someone that can understand human vs. mouse brain functions would be a plus.

Grimey - you never know. Remember that no one believed a Republican would take Massachusetts and Martha Coakley didn't much campaign. Look how that turned out. I hope that sends a strong message to Democrats - that nothing is a sure thing. I hope the Dems whoever they are, fight like hell for it, even if there's no Republican candidate. Dems need to get their messages out, all Dems, Representatives and Senators, the President, and those who believe in them.

Then hopefully we vote out some of these DINOs. Not asking for far leaning Demos, just removing those Republicans who are running on a Democratic ticket and pretending to be Democratic.

The former gov is a Republican, but she won't run. She drove the state into a budget crisis. The only real shot the GOP has is Rob Simmons, but I am not sure how much state-wide appeal he has. As a member of Murphy's district, I am THRILLED with the work he has done and I am looking forward to supporting him in the race!

If there is anyone is from middle class (minority in wealth), then, perhaps, one adds his/her name in the race.

Actually Randall Terry is a Republican.  In 1998, he ran for Congress in upstate New York, and in 2006 for a seat in the Florida State Senate, both times losing in the Republican primary.

You are right. The site had me re-enter my password and I ended up here. Go figure!
