Steele drops out: Despite 'noise,' 'difficulties, we won'

Michael Steele's rocky tenure as chairman of the Republican National Committee has officially ended.

Steele dropped his bid for reelection only after four rounds of votes here at National Harbor that saw him lose votes in each subsequent round. He endorsed former Bush administration official Maria Cino. If all votes hold, and Steele's 28 combine with Cino's 29, that would put Cino in second place with 57 votes behind Wisconsin Chairman Reince Priebus, who at last tally had 58.

"How y'all doin,'" Steele said in signature Steele, as he took to the podium before fifth-round voting to announce his exit. "Two years, we had a good time. This is tough because it is what it is."

He added, "I step aside for others to lead. ... Despite the noise, despite the difficulties, we won."

He continued, "I'm a fighter, and I'm a little bit obstinate, but I am because I believe in the fight."

He went on to tout the committee's accomplishments, as he saw them -- raising $192 million -- "no asterisk"; winning 63 House seats -- "We won in places we haven't in a long time. ... It wasn't because of anything I did. ... It's what you did."

"I will step aside because I think the party is ready for something different," he said. "And now I exit, stage right."

What is this sick fascination with Palin? Is it that she is attractive, intelligent and successful that intimidates you so much. It's really funny.

It's not racism. But it is black on black crime and it make sad too Spanky-

Republicans do nothing for lower classes. Steele was treated like an untouchable in the Indian caste system and passed that on to other Blacks, namely President Obama.

So not being content to only discuss racism in America you go off the board with Indian racism?

Bye the way, and since you brought it up, would'nt you agree that the racism (i.e. caste system in India and elsewhere) is far more pervasive and perverse than here in the good ol USA?

You are absolutely right. Steele was given the RNC chairmanship after Obama was elected so that they could say and do whatever they wanted to Obama and say it we're not prejudice its being said by a black man. 2-years of being used by the RNC. Given no repect and when they are through with him they fight to knock him off the mountain. Now they usher in a woman. You need to learn from steele in two years they will throw you away. especially if Obama gets reelected. Thats how you ended up with Palin. McCain needed someone to off set the Obama factor unfortunately they shows, a Barbie doll, without checking to see to on her family and how incredibly dumb she is. Why isn't Palin blond. Oh that's right it would give Blonds a bad name. Now she give brunettes a bad name.

And..there must be people buying all these Palin books, so he will do same and continue what he has done during tenure, making money for himself.

I'd sure like to see you specifically show all of us how we all hate blacks. I've been around a long time and I don't see or hear that. Joachim, why is he a joke and not Pres. Obama? Steele was Lt. Gov. of Maryland, and has vast experience in International and Corporate law. A lot more qualifications than the President! You just don't like it that he doesn't think like you. He didn't do a great job as RNC Chairman, but definitely NOT stupid!

THAT'S HOW THE RNC ROLLS BABY

Steele's need was to over the discrimination being done for 2 years. Now the real show will be Republicans vs Tea Party. The Tea Party was empowered by the candidates in office and Koch Brothers being able to pay 5 US Supreme Court Justices. These groups are looking for a Coup De Tat and it's working well. Even the RacistGovernor of Maine is speaking out about his deep hate for blacks as he tells the NAACP to kiss you know the rest. Aqua Buddha Rand Paul thought he was running for President but even when explained it was a Senate seat, the brain fried Randy still likes to play President. The elected nutters are running around on the hill and we thought only the Arizona shooter was mentally insane. Right now the State Tea Party groups are removing slavery from the text books so kids will think the word slavery was a job title and blacks come to America by way of Ellis Island like other immigrants. Now if a southern student decides to go to college they will have to learn US History. Just think we really could have a future President from the South who is so dumb he/she would have to be told US History by another Foreign Leader.

Poor Michael Steele. He's so unappreciated and unloved, and the victim of a horrible smear compaign by the haters on the left (and right, apparently). Maybe he and fellow perpetual victim Saint Sarah should team up--Palin/Steele 2012?

He's going have to give that oversized bullet proof suit back the RNC.

I find it interesting that those who claim to be in the party of inclusion are the ones posting negative comments about Steele. Who, other than those who making race baiting comments, cares what color someone's skin is? Why must you insist on beating that dead horse?

Michael Steele never got it! He thought he won that chairmanship based on his own merits. He didn't! It was given to him! He was "placed" there to prove to some in America that the Repubs could also place a Black man in power. Michael Steele was supposed to be the genetic-copy Obama. Even though the Repubs won big in the mid-terms, they felt that Steele wasn't needed anymore. Good-bye Mike. Welcome back to reality.

I wonder, how does Steele stack up against former RNC Chairmen??? Did he doo any worse then any of them? I told him in a Facebook blog years ago that, when the RNC and the Republicans got what they wanted, that he would be booted out the door. Hate to say, but"I told you so!!!"

Damn! The Republicans just lost their token black guy and lone connection to America's minority population! Oh well Michael. Look on the bright side. The Republican leadership is just a bunch of stodgy, old white people who believe that black people talk "Jive" and "Ebonics". So you'll have a job as chief translator! Good luck with that!

From your very own NBC News Media:

Everyone Needs to Look in the Mirror: In fact, the finger-pointing has already begun. Liberals have blamed the overheated Tea Party/conservative rhetoric for contributing today’s vitriolic political climate (and there’s little question that the past two years have been worse than at any time since the 1960s). Conservatives, meanwhile, have started to aggressively push back against that critique (and it’s clear that the shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, was so disturbed and outside the mainstream of either political party). But everyone -- combative conservatives, vociferous liberals and, yes, the media -- needs to take a hard look in the mirror, because we’ve all contributed to a political environment where opponents just don’t disagree, they de-humanize each other; they just don’t question those in power, they de-legitimize them; and we in the media just play along, giving attention -- not condemnation -- to the extremes. And what's happening in the new media (blogosphere and Twitterverse), where each side is trying to find a high horse to climb or find anything to grasp to prove their own point, is awful. Instead of trying to prove that one person's form of toxic political rhetoric is more damaging than another's doesn't lead us in the direction of cleaning up this cesspool of hateful political speech that's become more mainstream.

He probably didn't do a very good job with pulling in $$ but seems after seeing their pop quiz questions the biggest criteria is how many weapons you own!!
