The New York Times adds, "Mr. Obama was considering delivering a speech about the greater context surrounding the shooting, but advisers said it was premature to do so until Ms. Giffords’s condition stabilized and more became known about the gunman’s motives. The shooting could also become a theme of the State of the Union address."

Yesterday on the his show Reliable Sources Howard Kurtz immediately came to the defense of the Fox News Network and the awful rhetoric they spew by claiming a comparison with Kieth Olberman. And as I have watched and listened over the weekend, the over riding impression I have is conservatives and pundits trying to divert any of the blame for the great tragedy that has occurred.
To quote one of your own "man up" We will not solve this problem until corporate media takes steps to take the haters of the air or at least tone them down.

I agree with you and think that it is incumbent on Fox and MSNBC (the chief media outlets that are obvious in their political bias) tone down their on air talent or replace it. Keith Olberman has made a pledge already to do so in the future and the rest Hannity, Rove, Beck, Schulz, Maddow, Matthews, Cenk, O'Reilly, Napolitano, etc) need to do the same
I also think that we need our legislators, leaders and other government officials to avoid any contact with media outlets that continue to drive the rhetoric, hate and label on the airways.
That is how we will change the tine by denying them access to the people they need to talk to about issues.
Lets see how this works in the minds of some. This mentaly sick person with leftest ideals, murders several innocent people and greatly injures a somewhat conservative democrat and its the fault of those who stand for the return of responsible smaller goverment. So his reasoning was that the Rep Gifford was to conservative? NO PEOPLE the truth is he's mentaly unbalanced he has a much to do with politics as Hinkley did when he shot President Reagan. There are evil sick people in the world and they do evil sick things. It does not matter how you feel the world should be, that's the reality.
From what I've heard he sounds like a deranged Libertarian (if that isn't redundant).

And sadly Lee, sometimes all those people need is a spark to get their fire going. A spark such as heated words suggesting that the tree of liberty be watered by bloodshed or that 2d Amendment remedies are appropriate or that what cannot be gained via the ballot box be achieved via bullets. Gee, where have we heard those words before?

I'm in the camp that this guy was a real nutjob and all of the violent talk helped to push him in the wrong direction but that is only my opinion. I am also squarely in the camp that all of the hate speech from the rightwing talk show hosts and politicians is way over the top. It was uneccessary and uncalled for a long time ago. What kind of crazed morons encourage people to take politicians out (as in kill, not buy a slurpy) or take anybody out for that matter?
Interestingly enough it is mostly the right wingers who believe that rock and roll music, rap music, computer games and even certain literature cause kids to become violent. How can these same people stand up now and say that violent hate speech from political leaders and media stars viewed by their followers as leaders HAVE NO EFFECT on the weak minded in society!!??

I think we would ALL do well to remember these words spoken by I have no idea "Believe NOTHING of what you hear and only half of what you see." We cannot believe anything we hear from any media outlet or from any place else. Things are too easily taken out of context or purposely misconstrued. We need to find out the truth for ourselves. For those who haven't seen the movie "Minority Report", you need to see it. It is FICTITIOUS - which means it is not real. But I feel this is the direction in which we are moving very quickly.
