From NBC's Shawna Thomas and Luke Russert; msnbc.com's Carrie Dann:
As her party enters the minority in the U.S. House, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been once again elected to the chamber’s top Democratic leadership spot. But Pelosi’s party wasn’t unanimous in backing her for the job, with almost one in ten members of the caucus voting for a different candidate.
A total of 19 Democrats broke with their party to vote for someone other than Pelosi, whose low approval ratings have been frequently cited as one reason for heavy Democratic losses in the November election.
Eleven voted for Pelosi rival and Blue Dog Rep. Health Shuler of North Carolina.
Here’s a full list of the defectors:
For Shuler (11):
Altmire (PA)
Boren (OK)
Cooper (TN)
Donnelly (IN)
Holden (PA)
Kissell (NC)
McIntyre (NC)
Matheson (UT)
Michaud (ME)
Ross (AR)
Shuler (NC)
For Rep. John Lewis of Georgia (2)
Barrow (GA)
Giffords (AZ)
For Rep. Jim Costa of California (1)
Cardoza (CA)
For Rep. Dennis Cardoza of California (1)
Costa (CA)
For Rep. Jim Cooper of Tennessee (1)
Kind (WI)
For Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio (1)
Lipinski (IL)
For Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland (1)
Schrader (OR)
Voting “present” (1)
Bishop (GA)

If were a Blue Dog Rep; I'd stop being a Boll weevill and get with the 21st century. Health Shuler of North Carolina is not bringing anything to the table except lies and slavish behavior to his masters; multi corporations.
Bev, Every politician has corporate masters. Even the President. It costs money to get elected. And it costs favors to get reelected!
Bev-
msnlover2 has just posted the best response to one of your rants that I've ever seen!
Happy 2011 everyone....This has got to be a better year!...
My friend Vanessa, a 25 yrs lady, has announced her wedding with a millionaire young man Ronald who is the CEO of a MNC. It's amazing, she said she just posted her profile on a millionaire d'ating site called --------Rich'Friends.Org---- - and received his chat invitations a few days later. Then, everything went so well that I can't believe it's true!
Every love story will unfold on it's own. you can start your own wealthy love story for real at there too !heard Paris Hilton and her friends are trying to find the best match for their friend on this site too.!
msnlover2-
I can't thank you enough...
Lol.
msnlover2's post was deleted? What did it say?
rrobeson-
Suffice to say it had more real substance than any of Bev's posts.
msnlover2 was advertising another website, rrobeson.
Bag:
Bag's posts ALWAYS have substance. The kind of substance that gets processed in a sewage treatment plant.
Outside of the movie Pretty Woman, how many rich people marry poor people? How many people usually marry within their own economic status? And how many good looking people marry ugly people?
Well, Ok, Julia Roberts has done it in a movie--poor hooker to rich girlfriend/probably wife, and she did marry Lyle Lovett--one ugly dude:)
I'm laughing at this one, Houston!
It's your best rebuttal ever to one of my posts, sad to say...but, at least you've found your true voice.
I wonder why they don't list the people who did vote for her.
Beverly, I too agree. The 19 who where swayed to betray their party's primary choice and who supported Nancy Pelosi will have sooner or later experience the old "what goes around comes around."
The unafraid...?
The informed...?
The 53 defeated Democratic incumbents...?
No, can't be them...they're gone.
Who, then?
The Bluedogs were the reason for the defeat of the Democratic Party in Nov 2010. You have to work with Democratic Party's agenda and not a Republican Party within the Democratic Party. Good riddance to those!!!
Vinod, absolutely correct. It was the bluedogs, most of whom were defeated just too bad that their cooperation with republicans also cost good democrats like Patrick Murphy, Phil Hare their seats.
Absolutely, Vinod. All you need to know is that Blue Dogs lost in higher proportion than Democrats who were more in tune with the rest of the party. The "Republican Lite" agenda gets you nowhere. Your own party has no reason to do you any favors and you'll still be tarred as a "Liberal Socialist" by Conservatives. It's a strictly cynical approach that doesn't work.
Yep, you all went from all those blasted Blue dogs to straight up tea partiers. I'm sure that's what the electorate had in mind - sticking it to the conservative dems by electing in repulicans. I like the way you think. So natuarally all dems know to be all in progressives or else they will be replaced by repulicans.
Spanky, the point is that those mostly weren't "Democratic" seats to begin with. They were traditionally Republican seats that the Democratic Party tried to swing by putting in Blue Dogs. Once in office they didn't endear themselves to Democratic voters because they were Conservative. They didn't get any mercy from Republican voters because they aren't Republicans. Their refusal to back many of the President's policies damaged him as well.
The only thing they really did was provide the illusion of a stronger majority than actually existed.
Darn, John-
You almost seem happy to have lost 63 House seats.
Since 21 Democratic Senate seats are at risk in 2012, while only 10 GOP seats are...
You might be even happier then...of course, Democrats like Jon Tester in conservative Montana wouldn't agree.
But, you can always elect a Joe Manchin elsewhere, and virtually guarantee another vote for the repeal of Obamacare in the Senate...President Obama will surely veto, but it's nice to have folks on the record regarding an unpopular piece of legislation, isn't it, John?
Very true. In Indiana I had a blue dog that was bad mouthing the president during the election a tea party republican and a crazy libertarian in other words no choice.
Blue dogs? Tea partiers? RINOS and DINOS?
Did I wake up in a Dr. Seuss book?
Vinrod represents the same thinking as one Rush "I'm a windbag" Limbaugh who advocated a cleaning of the house after Obama was elected...and look what it got us...a host of whacky unqualified tea party goofballs who wont/can't change a darn thing.
Vinrods right.....what we need is a real push to the hard left to get this country moving....**
** If your rolling your eyes after that one your not alone
Androloma just made me laugh good, that just made my day seem alright.
Why do the 20% (or less) of the folks that truly believe in the leftist agenda get so hacked off when the rest of the people in the country want leadership that is center-right in the political spectrum (80%)? Is it that they view of the world is so far toward the socialist viewpoint that the truly hat anything that isn't?
Actually, I think is a return to sanity for these Dems to look for some other leadership that what they had. As for Nancy ... "well, you have to wait for the bill to pass before you know what's in it"!
She has been worse, far worse, than the big O!
When the vote was over the dems were slapped in the face, they were beat so bad it knocked their ASS out of place.
Does this mean no more free Botox for Nancy, in a couple of months she will look like Helen Thomas!
...is amused by the extent to which Conservatives are impressed by their ability to take the majority in one house of Congress from the party in power just as we're starting to recover from the worst recession in 80 years.
Perhaps now that John Boehner is Speaker of the House y'all can manage to make the Sun come up in the East tomorrow morning.
Blue Dogs are a dying breed in the Democratic Party just like moderates are in the Republican Party. The Democrats need to purge out the turncoat Blue Dogs who vote most of the time with Republicans and start concentrating on winning over Republican seats in Blue and Purple States rather than going for the ultra conservative from Red States. Votes will have buyers remorse and in two years put the Democrats back in power once and for all. People seem to have a short memory on what party it was who started all this mess in the first place, those being Republicans.
Or perhaps the Majority of voters in this country enjoy seeing compromise. They will see some members crossing the aisle to get things done and think," We need to vote out these insane idealogues who can't compromise on anything" We will get more extremists voted out and more RINO and DINO's in! A moderate can always hope right.
LOL....wow....you actually believe that don't you? The Democrats need to purge people like you who are, just like Pelosi, bitter, divisive, and close minded. You are the dinosaur...your time is over.
yeah kick all those "blue dog" democrats out can't have a moderate or a conservative in the democratic party...progressives ONLY!!!!!!!!!
i wonder where all those moderate and conservative democrats that have been told to get the hell out of the democratic party went? hmmmm.....i can assure you we did not go home, sit down and shut up as ordered by the self righteous elitist progressives…where do you think the republicans got all those votes from in novemebr…so continue to tell us we are not welcome in your party…see you at the polls in 2012 and since you don’t want me in your party you can trust me i WON”T be voting democrat
Great post, and so very true!
sickandtired, those Blue Dogs still sit to the left of, say, John McCain, who has been thrashed continuously as a "RINO".
I agree wholeheartedly. Perhaps not on the grounds of it being "right" per se, but on the grounds that you have to fight fire with fire. Just as the right wing has taken over the Republican party, and what few moderate Republicans are left are referred to as RINO or as liberals in disguise and marginalized, then the Democratic party has to solidify its base and get everyone on the same page. I hate to say it, but allowing dissension in the party plays right into the Republicans hands. Look at it. The Dems had the congress to themselves, and because they couldn't all get together on just about anything, and had enough of their own party vote against their own bills, they couldn't get anything passed. The Repubs just had to stick together, vote no and wait for enough Dems to vote against their own party. I guarantee you if it had been a Republican congress, and some of their members had voted against their agenda (without getting permission first, of course) they would be called out and it would be made clear to them that they toe the line, or they won't be around. Unfortunately its not something the Dems have been able to get through their heads, and they continue to lament that they can't get anything done even when the are in control. As Ben Franklin said,"We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately." And the Dems metaphorically hung separately in this last election. Perhaps one day they will get it, but more and more I doubt it.
I don't think MOST people actually fit into the Ultra Conservative or Ultra Liberal mold. I know I don't. If someone has opinions that criss cross party lines like being in favor of gay marriage rights and against abortion, they don't get to play in either party's back yard.
I think by default people will claim one party over another simply because of something as rediculous as that's what their parents were. But when you get down and dirty with the acual issues, most people don't fit a party mold. If they do, they can't think for themselves.
I'm hard pressed to understand how anyone can advocate for a more polarized house and senate. If you seriously think ANY problems are going to be solved or any progress is going to be made, by electing people from the two extremes that are beholden to their special interests then I have to wonder what you are thinking, drinking or smoking.
Stop wasting our time and this countries future with your political gamesmanship.
Amen! Well said.
Thanks for this information. All good Dems should keep this list and remember how they were weakened by conservatives planted in their ranks. Your voters were duped by not doing enough vetting. How clever, but now your cover is blown, isn't it. To the DNC, Let's make sure to educate their voters and get them voted out asap. We cannot afford the backslide that is about to come. It will wipe out the peace maintaining broad based middle class of America and replace it with the extreme polarity of rich vs poor.
Yes, remorse is just around the corner as the restriction and elimination of benefits and services will affect all families across class lines, where there is a fire not put out, or a snow plow not available, or a paramedic not on the way....You and YOu and YOU will feel it in every neighborhood, excepting the privately gated ones who hire their own, of course. For the rest, the privitation is not there, where are the businesses and loyalty and jobs, where are the bosses that pay? We cannot count on charity, it does not trickle down. It has never trickled down. Only checks and balances work. Government that is not bought off or corrupt, that adheres to authentic traditional constitutional laws and values, is the only guard against malignant runnaway capitalist greed and extreme profit motive, which, ironically in the end will eat up everything in its path and in the end, itself, like an invasion of termites or ants.
I am sorry to see Nancy Pelosi go. I also know that most people in America do not realize that this most efficient leader of The House of Representatives will go down as having passed more beneficial bills than most house leaders that have ever served and that this is on the record. It will be interesting to see how this New Year commences. We will see how the strategies and leadership of the Republicans create a better world with better health and prosperity for ALL. It is now time for them with their majority to stand and deliver...for who else can provide jobs and business gifts and grants to the highly skilled entrepeneurs and ambitious upwardly mobile young American hopefuls to create more American commerce than those who have the riches to give to their communities here in America? It only makes common sense. Or, on the other hand, will Atlas actually shrug? Only a good Objectivist who has gone full circle in all social and economic theories will know. One expert comes to mind, shrugged his shoulders and said he thought Laissez Faire was not the way afterall awhile ago after serving two administrations. Hmmm.
Now that so many good deals have been made for the ownership of the world's new technologies and the gatekeepers have been assured they can still stay on top of the hill...the rest of us 90% of American People will sit here barely keeping the bills paid for this old puter sputtering away, taking in homeless relatives, (and their pets), feeding and clothing them with the dwindling savings that we have left, praying that they find a new job, paying our property taxes, shivering in the cold due to the monopoly of natural gas companies charging too much for "arbitrary fees" just to do paperwork and deliver the service on top of the units, correcting the Utilities on their wrong estimated meter readings, going without and forgetting about retirement, worrying about our grandchildren's future while saving up for the yearly property taxes, getting foreclosed and turned down by the bankers, and enjoying this latest news show because we were able to atleast kick in the monthly online bill or is that lifeline bill?
Well anyway, Let us just watch now how many of the victories for helping The People including those who are ill, handicapped, aged, and the poor mothers and needy children get rescinded or repealed or if that lifeline for grandma gets taken away. I heard that one group of wing nuts somewhere out west is counting on going up in the new rapture, predicting the date of May 21st. Wishing them good riddance if they think that is the answer or the best solution, and wishing all the rest of humanity and living beings down here on Earth a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
Oh, and a big thank you, most respectfully to one very brilliant lady who has served us in The House so well with a cool head and an undefeated smile through it all...from California, a ray of rare sane, sober and wise sunshine who knows better than to even be rattled by it, Nancy Pelosi.
I'm not in favor of a more polarized Congress per se, but I recognize that the GOPTP sees politics is a fight to the death with one party rule being the only future. Under the circumstances it's ill-advised for Democrats to pretend they're dealing with reasonable people who wish to talk things out and come to a mutually acceptable solution.
To the person who wants to get things done: Keep in mind that just because Congress can make laws doesn't mean that they should always be making laws.
@Go_USA-
Perhaps we should qualify practices like repeal and reform, the making and un-doing of laws - say for example, in the elimination of Prohibition, as being the job of the legislative body...free of bribes and corruption, which would be the best management of American customs and laws for American citizens in this civil society, which would truly benefit and provide safety for them in their communities across this country and define a continuous logical humane way of making it possible for them to make an adequate peaceful fair living in an egalitarian society, and furthermore, keeping it possible now and in the future for their posterity....??? I cannot think of a better way of getting things done for my country, the USA.
Nancy said Boehner's gavel was bigger than average!!!
Well, she did have to wait and see what was in it:)
but not as big as hers
Take it from a shark, that was one big hammerhead.
Someone actually voted for Steny Hoyer! I thought only the voters of Maryland's 5th District could be so foolish.
Keep her front and center libs. It will just make things so much easier for the right in 2012.
Its nice to see that some Democrats had sense enough not to vote for Pelosi.
Yes, and its so nice to see that some Republicans had sense enough not to vote for Boehner too.
Costa and Cordoza voted for each other instead of themselves. What the hell was that???
That gave me a chuckle too... Guess they wanted to see their names in print here...
Costa and Cordoza also gently tap their feet together between the walls in the stalls.
.Â
The vilification of Pelosi was part of the Republican strategy to focus public anger on specific people in the Democratic Party. In fact, she has been among the most effective Speakers in memory.
Of course you are totally correct: "most effective." But I suspect there just might be some disagreement as to what she was effective in doing. Like costing the Dems all DEM seats (53). Like effectively handing over that gavel, i.e. control.
That is what you meant, right? So dog gone good she is now in the minority. And still the good peole of SF cannot buy Happy Meals with toys.
And we conservatives are delighted that she will remain an anchor around the neck of Congressional Democrats.
87 new Republicans in the 112th Congress...9 new Democrats.
Don't ever change, Nancy!
Bag:
And the Republicans have just elected a blubbering bar fly as the new Speaker. I'm sure that's going to work out really well for you.
She's one of the primary reason the Dems squandered their majority over the last two years. The people of SF should be embarrassed by her politics of exclusion she practiced while Speaker of the House.
LMAO Houston! I'm wondering how long it is before the Weeper of the House ends up in rehab?
For 'exhaustion' of course! ;o)
Why do Repubs dislike/hate Nancy Pelosi, other than that's what they were told!
What's the problem with a strong woman?...Oh, oh, but they love the Wasilla Village Idiot!
Go figure!.........
you can Usually Tell when the Resident Racists come to the Boards.. yes. that being Houston Feisty, and Chilled. the only Reason they Hate Boehner and Palin are Because they are White.. Oh. they will Tell you all different kinds of Reason. But those of us in the Know. Know they just Hate White people..
chilled -
Considering she told republicans 'We won, you lost, get over it' when obama took office, she set the stage herself.
I mean, come on! If you're going to pull stupid and partisan stunts like that nearly every time you open your mouth someone's bound to notice. Now one has to 'tell' conservatives anything about her. We aren't blinded by her progressive views like you are and can see just how bad she was and is for this country.
She's as bad as Rangel in her own way, and she was re-elected by a similar margin in her own district. No wonder California and New York are as bad off as they are. Businesses leaving, high taxes, sanctuaries for illegals...
Steve, Kinda like the Beckster and his comment about President Obama having 'a deep seeded hatred for, ah white people'
The only thing I hate is a racist and or bigot, whatever their color or stripe or political position!
and, Tammy just what have you been 'told' about Nancy Pelosi?
Here's a plug for California......I love it! San Francisco is beautiful and gracious....always wish I could see Mrs. Pelosi when I'm visiting there. Great Seafood, Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park....and the coast line is something to behold!
Stop the unreasonable hatred, tammy!
Come on Chilled. . You mean just like Obama Claiming that the White Police officer was only acting the way he did because of the Color of the good Ole Professors skin. Oh yes we understand you hate Everything White.. . I mean Really . Just Because the man in the White House is Half White is not the Reason i Dislike him..
87-9, Houston...
87-9.
I love how that worked out...
But, amazingly, it would appear that you do as well!
Who knew...?
:-)
I voted Against Obama, Because he is a Socialist. I dont live in the EX SPEAKERS state or District.. but i sure spoke out against "it from the Pit"..
Bag:
The numbers I like are 6547-11722.
The first is the Dow Jones average at the end of Bush's disastrous presidency and the second is the closing Dow average today, after two years of Obama's leadership. If the Republicans manage to throw the economy into chaos with government shutdowns and other monkey business, will that make you happy or could it be you might have some stock investments like most people do, including myself?
Watch those numbers go even higher after the November elections, Houston.
The midterm results virtually guarantee it, don't they?
Dear Steve, please explain. How do you define Social or Social-ist or Social-ism or have you ever taken a college course in Sociology or Social Theory? You have just put a label on our President in some vague manner and it is confusing to many Americans who do not know what you are talking about. If you are going to put a label or political label on someone without their permission, it can be libelous. It is not very nice to do things like that without a qualified statement further explaining what you are refering to or a clear definition that shows some example or proof of what you mean. Worse yet, if you are parroting something someone else has parroted to you or many, say over the air waves and ever so embarrassingly, perchance, YOU do not know what YOU are talking about? Hmmm.
I doubt Nancy Pelosi has a problem with those who voted against her. This is part of the process, elections have consequences. Congratulations to minority leader Pelosi.
We keep reading about Pelosi's low approval ratings. Why wouldn't those ratings be in the tank? She's been under relentless attack since she became Speaker in 2007. My guess is everyone here has been sent at least one piece of derogatory, anti-Pelosi hate mail. Yes, I will say it--powerful women are still too often viewed with distain and distrust, a double standard still exists. If Nancy Pelosi shed as many tears as now Speaker Boehner has, her opponents would have demanded her resignation claiming she was unstable. Look at how much grief Hillary Clinton took when she broke down the day before the NH primary? It was relentless. And that's the truth of our still somewhat biased world--although it has greatly improved since my first day on the job years ago before there were harrassment and anti-discrimation laws.
Pelosi earned that distrust.
Absolutely, Jody. Republicans are going to hate her just for being from San Francisco and the leader of the Republican Party. Conservatives managed to use her to motivate their own base.
I highly doubt it motivated many others. In a world where less than half of Americans realize that Republicans won the House and only 38% know John Boehner is the new Speaker it's fair to say most people neither knew nor cared about Nancy Pelosi. http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1804/political-news-quiz-iq-deficit-defense-spending-tarp-inflation-boehner
@bethcat
How did Nancy Pelosi earn that distrust, please explain yourself and give some examples? What exactly did she do?
Anonymous -
Are you so blinded by your devotion to your party that we have to spell it out?
Evidently you are -
Here's the big one -
Obamacare
Then there's financial 'reform'
Her failure to 'drain the swamp'
Tammy, who is "we"? I have already explained myself above and please do not assume otherwise or how I spell or spelling it out???. Spelling - oh yes, Republican strategy, garble everything up so much with misdirecting the topic that it goes to a put down or accusation...not the original leit motif, look that up if you do not comprehend. Spelling has nothing to do with it, get it?
Thank you Sean...spot on here. Just as I thought. All she seems to talk about is something to do with exterminating a bunch of mosquitos? Financial reform is an interesting term. I suppose with so many in jail like Abramoff, coingate Ney, and now DeLay, you can call getting stolen moneys and votes back reform, that is a nice polite word for it. :)
Oh excuse me, I think I meant to put Noe, but hey, there were so many...with their fingers in the People's cookie jar or fooling around with the voting machines and totals or redistricting or whatever loopholes or tax evasion on ALL SIDES, that making sure funds do go to their intended causes honestly for The People of the United States and not their pockets, is a good way of managing the People's business. I do think all good citizens of The United States would agree with that.
John B: Nancy Pelosi is not the leader of the republican party. She is a democrat.
Why thank you Go Usa for pointing that out, I am sure that John B would appreciate your attentiveness here. I am also sure that most of us know that this was a simple "misnomer" from reading the entire post. About the content of what John B mentioned, I and so many others agree. It is very clear that Nancy Pelosi was the target of an emotional scape-goat style whipping up frenzy feast by the Maenads of the Republican propagandists.
Apologies for the typo. Yes, I meant Democratic Party. It would be nonsensical for Republicans to hate her for being head of the Republican caucus.
These people need to be, and now seem to be, driven from the Democratic party. A moderate is a fantasy, albeit a nice one. The facist idealogs on the Republican side can only be defeated by a Democratic party that is far left, and willing to use the Republican take no prisoners intransigence. The majority of Americans are decent, caring, patriotic (not Republican) people. It's time to take back our country. Let's make sure that the Republicans new majority in the house proves to be a Pyrrhic victory. Since the Tea Party likes to coop what happened in Boston during the American Revolution, perhaps we need to think about think about the battle of Bunker Hill. We need to make it so politically costly for the Republicans that while they may have won a battle, they will ultimately lose the war to the new Bunker Hill mob.

Did you notice these lovers of patriotism mentioned hardly a peep on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party which occurred December 16, 1773 at Boston Harbor; which, btw, the present day Sons of Liberty got wrong. The Sons of Liberty were disguised as Native American Indians, not those silly looking costumes tea baggers wear. Above all, the Sons of Liberty didn't adorn themselves with tea bags either.
Neither did these lovers of liberty mention January 1, 1863 the day President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Interesting discussion. I believe it's important to not lose sight of the fact that Republicans and Democrats have been doing battle for about 150 years, long enough for them to even exchange identities. After all, Republicans were once painted as the dangerous radicals who sought to overturn a society that mostly worked pretty well...except for that inconvenient slavery thing.
By that measure I think Conservative David Frum said it best;
The majority of the seats that Republicans gained in 2010 are the same seats they lost in 2008. Legislative seats come and go. This policy will be long-lived. We'll look back on it and believe it was worth the cost. Just like LBJ, who probably never regretted giving up the South to do the right thing with the Civil Rights Act.
Actually, Sarah Palin mentioned it and was derided for posting the actual year of 1773. The media actually made fun of her as they pointed out that she missed it my 3 years. They were all quoting 1776 as the date.
Yes, Beverly has a good point. Speaking of derision, Beverly also qualified her statement with the word "hardly". Nice try at deriding her, Go Usa.
And why isn't Pelosi's vote listed for one of the fine gentlemen from........?
Shuler voted for himself. LOL!
Since Pelosi name is not on the list of 19...then she voted for herself...LOL back atcha
His drive for the speakers position ended like his drives for the Super Bowl.
ParkerMom,
If you had read a newspaper you would have learned that he said that he was going to vote for himself. He knew he wouldn't win, but he cared more that you now know his name...
Pelosi and Boehner didn't vote.
Thanks Geronimo for mentioning that little FACT.
I have absolutely nothing against Nancy Pelosi. However, I applaud those that did not vote for her. We just can't keep having the same people with the same tired ideas in charge. I hope the new Speaker can do some work for the people. Hope is all I have.
You're a damn sight more optimistic than I am. I've never been impressed with 'ol Boner! I don't see him having the skills needed to herd the Tea Party cats!
Please do not insult the species felis cattus by associating anything to do with us as to do with one of those mad hatters.
Nancey Pelosi presided over the most productive Congress in history. It was the obstinacy and opposition of the Blue Dogs that greatly contributed to the election defeat for the Dems. Nice that Shuler was high-minded and principled enough to vote for himself as leader...
http://sunstateactivist.org/ssablog/
I love that Steny Hoyer didn't vote for her.
Recheck the list. Hoyer has always been and always will be Nancy Pelosi's luggage boy. Schrader of Oregan voted for Hoyer. The servant of the 5th District of Maryland, Steny Hoyer, voted for his true boss, Nancy Pelosi.
You must still be in denial.
There hasn't been a democrat loss like this in about 70 years! It was a repudiation of the progressive agenda with obamacare, cap and trade, finance reform (that isn't) and other job-KILLING legislation that caused their defeat.
And spanky (I know I should have said something to him earlier), FYI - the democrats lost over 60 Congressional seats, not 53. I think the total number is around 67 seats between the House and the Senate.
I stand corrected, Danno...
Book me.
But at least I didn't vote for Pelosi...as Hoyer did.
Bag:
And you didn't vote for Boehner, either, unless you are a member of Congress. But given the whackadoodles that people voted for last November, I wouldn't be surprised if you got in somehow - Congressman Bag.
@Tammy Re: Job Killing.
What about GM being saved? The fact that there is a recovery going on? What kind of "mainstream" or other media cloud are you on? The only ones who can kill jobs are the employers who hold the purse strings and have the wages to pay, evidently they were able to get cheaper labor abroad and glean more profits out of their enterprises and that is a fact.
Perhaps you had better start questioning their benevolence, morals and loyalty to providing safe and healthy conditions and a decent wage to American workers and start wondering how YOU will be taken care of if YOU are ill or old someday? Or if there are no community services when YOU, in some emergency situation, may need them. For instance, domestic violence is an example, it hits all levels of society from rich to poor. So are you going to leave some beat up old mugged grandma or abandoned child out in the snowy gutter or not let her into ER or march her off to the extermination chamber saying that because she is poor she does not deserve help, or what kind of citizen are you? How will you deal with that responsibility, or do you not believe in being any kind of "good Samaritan"? You see, its just that I want management solutions and you guys never seem to know what you are on about? It has got to be managed for the people by the people some way and government is just that, The People's House in this case and not some big black booted monster.
I am so tired of accusations of things when I see no better explanations or solutions put forward. People in community service jobs like the post man have to be paid or there is no more mail. Runaway shops for profit must be fined or taxed and incentives for local labor encouraged and developed by someone or Main Street shops get boarded up and factories torn down. Someone has to live in and care for the upkeep of a home and be able to afford the maintanence bills or a house gets abandoned and ruined forever. You cannot have it both ways. Your party has no explanation for taking care of these things. We are only as strong as our weakest link and our bottom line, not some bourgeois dream. The chain is breaking, the boards are falling out of the floor. What is your party's real solution? Enough of the attention deficit oxymoron drugged out hypnotized sound bites from rich armchair dig me baby dillitantes. The People of the country want some REAL answers on how we can work to get back on the path to a better quality life in the future.
I'm sure Pelosi will have the same dedication to non-partisanship as the Republicans did when they were in the minority.
She's already declared that she plans to continue her hyper-partisan ways.
The republicans were locked out of important negotiations on things like Obamacare, where have you been?
Why wouldn't she? The GOPTP has made it clear that no opinion matters other than their own.
I just recall seeing Boehner holding up a very thin magazine like thing and flapping it around...?
Only 19 Democrats voted against Pelosi? That kind of conflicts with the media's "Democrats in disarray" narrative, doesn't it?
Yes, this is a communications problem Houston. I really dislike it when the mainstream media behaves in a biased way or recites an incomplete, opinionated, or partial mis-explanation like this.
We all know this leaning way too much to the right by some has been a problem for awhile within the Democrat party ever since the Lieberman thing and the reasons for trying to introduce things like campaign finance reform and the elimination of lobbying pressure which is in some folks opinion, nothing more than bribery. Since the obvious discovery of the getting elected then doing whatever you want trick, I am sure that many of our leaders will not allow people who are running on the Democrat ticket as wolves in sheep's clothing to infiltrate as easily after this year. We have paid the Bluedog price, sadly to say.
It's just too bad this failure will hurt a lot of the People who were being represented by these so called civil servants in the future. One can see the insinuation here of disorganization or incompetence within the Democrat Party, and it could not be farther from the truth. Many have years of experience and education on the policies and protocol of civic duty and know the particulars of their positions, practicing with skill and expertise. I am concerned about all the folks who will now be standing posts that they have been blindly voted into that they know nothing about. Priveledge, favoritism, payola and the old slap on the back instead of 'know how' has already gotten us into some deep trouble, but maybe that is what they want? I just cannot believe they are all really that stupid. It is sad to see this country put on the back burner after so many generations had to work so hard to build her. The city fathers just allowed a beautiful historic building to be torn down on Main Street with a Victorian Tower and all in a town nearby. We will never see that architectural craftmanship again as an original or have our children see and read about the history of that building. Some things need to be taken into the future, but some things should be preserved, it all has to do with management by those who know what they are doing and why. We need to know that those running for a post are knowledgeable enough, honest enough, or in a condition to actually work it, as we need to know that every vote counts fairly and accurately. That is not partisan, that is simply American. The news is a report, not an opinion...that is categorized and announced as an editorial.
"Here's a full list of the defectors:"
Defectors? It's obvious what NBC's Shawna Thomas and Luke Russert and msnbc.com's Carrie Dann feel about these 19 people who voted their conscience. What did they defect from?
I guess Shawna, Luke and Carrie feel they should have followed like lemmings and voted for Pelosi no matter what they think. However, I'm sure that if any Republican would have voted against Boehner, it would have read a lot differently and they would not have been called defectors.
Tim wouldn't have let that happen!
Â
No, I think that good ol Tim, who I miss dearly, would have clearly and smartly listed and illustrated Nancy Pelosi's REAL accomplishments in the first place and had no shame whatsoever in doing so, thereby providing the real reasons why most Dems voted again for her.
I'm greatful the Democrats didn't elect someone from a republican fly over state.
Â
Just a thought, I'm sure Pelosi had some rather interesting ideas in mind as the gavel was handed over to such a...well, you've an imagination. Pelosi has more intestinal fortitude than 90% of the male Congress. Go Pelosi!!
Yes! Go Pelosi! Just GO!
Pelosi is seventy years of age and could easily pass for fifty!! She's more moxie than most males in general, and specifically , those in Congress. Can you say "WIMP" for our new Speaker of the House leader??? She'll be back!!
I just Threw up in my Mouth. A little...
Now do us all a BIG favor and make sure you swallow...

Thank you libs for my morning laugh. Must go back to work.....have a nice day!
Oh please - this isn't news - so a "handful" of pro-business Democrats voted for Shuler, about 10%.
That means the other 90% of the Democratic Caucus DID vote to support Nancy Pelosi.
Say what you will - she's an effective leader - and got things done that other Congresses haven't been able to do for a hundred years !!! She'll be back as MADAME SPEAKER in 2 years time - as soon as the American People realize that they've let the Fascist Corporate Hooligans loose again in Congress. It's amusing that Speaker Boehner said this is "The People's House" - a more accurate statement would have been that this is "Wall Street's House!" Get ready for more ENRON and BERNIE MADOFF style antics !!!
yes.. She Added 5 Trillion Dollars to the National Debt in her 4 year Reign of Terror. and of course we do expect more of the Bernie Maddof style Antics.. I mean After all Bernie was a Democrat...
How do you know the actual voting practices of this person Steve? I thought we had a secret ballot in this country.
You ask how many ugly people marry good looking people? My wife is a very attractive lady, even at 60. As for me, I scare trucks away and some people have said my face looks like it was on fire and someone put it out with a shovel. That being said, on December 21, we celebrated 28 years of marriage and couldn't be happier with each other. Trust me, opposites do attract!
Congrats on the 28 Years Bradley.....................
Ditto!
:)
