Palin’s 2012 hopes sinking?

Sarah Palin (R) remains a divisive figure. The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll that measured her favorability ratings showed the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee about as polarizing as Nancy Pelosi.

A CNN poll out yesterday showed her numbers dropping among Republicans. One reason: Republicans are trying to figure out who can win, and her high negatives, particularly among independents, don't help. Why do you think it's happening, and what does it mean for the 2012 Republican field?

Take our poll at right and let us know who you think will be the GOP's 2012 presidential nominee.

Mitt Romney, like Glen Beck will have problems with the Evangelicals because of their Mormon religion, this is why I think Mike Huckabee will be the nominee. Sarah Palin is jut too polarizing.

        Reply#58 - Wed Dec 29, 2010 2:10 PM EST

Those Evangelicals just don't buy the Joe Smith "I saw Moroni..." claim, nor do they buy the constant EQUIVOCATION that is a foundation stone of Mormonism.

Mitt might as well convert to Sun Young Moon's version of the Church of Scientology,

all 3 leaders of those institutions are nothing more than Fiction Writers with a flock of blind sheep.

Militant Texan Baptists still support "Kill a Mormon/Moonie/Scientoligist for Christ"....

How is Mitt going win w/o Texas?

          #58.1 - Wed Dec 29, 2010 2:42 PM EST

Mitt also has that "illegal alien landscaper(gate)" problem in his past. Perhaps his platform will include mandatory tithing?

            #58.2 - Wed Dec 29, 2010 3:47 PM EST

If Huckabee wants to run, he'll need to quit Fox "News" soon. He can't be seen as a right wing political pundit/ entertainer AND a politician. Also, while I don't know much about campaign laws, it seems that having a show lets him get hundreds of free hours of campaign advertising, which sounds unethical.

            She is not the one.

The wrong choice with McCain, the wrong choice now. Let get off the imaginary presentation & stop shoving her down my throat.

Sarah's latest book numbers and her TV show, which is basically a commercial for her brand, are not establishing her as "Presidential". Her appeal is wearing thin with overexposure. Although she markets herself as a "good mother" and independent women, she does not come off as particularly unique or accomplished...more just doing what she does and touting Alaska, as if she is its number one citizen. However, everyone knows she quit, as Governor and is still a divisive figure in her home state, as evidenced in Senator Murkowski's write in victory. Sarah still draws raves from her constituency and the show has a sort of down home appeal but her folksiness, can come off as plain "hicks ville", at times.

The winner of the Republican party nomination will be someone who is paid by Fox "News". This means that Fox "News" which has the highest inaccurate information of all news outlets will be running America.

Fox News -- a company that actually went to court in Florida to defend its right to distort and fabricate the news.

The "fair and balanced" news organization run by a former republican campaign flame agent disciple of Lee Atwater.

It doesn't matter who the GOP runs, they won't beat Obama, they are all stuck in the same old failed policy ideas as Regan/Bush etc., trickle down economics that have decimated our country. So good luck with that. Not to mention most of them are racist. They use the Hispanics and Muslims to tweak their base and the Southerner's basic hate speech every time they need to gin up some controversy.

As far as Palin, the only people that love the Bimbo is the media, they drool over her every word, she's dumb as a post and if she didn't have her looks going for her she'd be wiping up fish guts in AK instead of making millions on a "reality show"!

It is NOT ONLY the failed policies that retard them...

Anxiety & emotional over-investment in subjects such as politics becomes a source of chronic stress, which in turn amplifies a biological predisposition to over react & lash out even before any opposition or perceived threat becomes present. These are the people who anxious or not, can’t control their own interior monologues or fears of the unknown. These are the people who are hypervigilant and who see everything as a threat, always ready to sound an alarm and leap into action and then there are those who imitate this trait out of a need to be recognized as the first to call for action, being FIRST is the motivation for these persons, being a Clarion for them is far more important than being correct or logical. These are the types who will "show you fear in a handful of dust", to quote T.S. Eliot

There are quite a few comments to the effect of, "she is just too dumb to get the republican nomination"

All other issues aside, when the hell has that stopped conservatives from voting for a candidate???

Even a chimpanzee can memorize specific responses to certain stimuli. (ie.... "Remember, if he uses any numbers in a response, you are to say, "That's, fuzzy-math". Ok, Got it? "Fuzzy-math" that tested really well. Can you repeat it back to me?")

                Chitown --

I've often wondered if the republican leadership actually prefers someone "intellectually pliable". Perhaps they don't know they're being played until it's too late. Look at the republican frontrunners so far.

Recall also that George W's mental horsepower was called into question many times before the 2000 elections -- and he was voted in twice.

I favor a Barbour/Palin ticket in 2012. NASCAR will become the new national sport.

She will run for about 6 weeks, face the media , and be laughed out of the entire race due to her total lack of knowlege .

Palin doesn't intend or want to be President. It would mean a pay cut and she would have to actually work and produce something. She is flirting with her base to sell her new book and try to get ratings for her failing reality show. She's Newt Gingrich with better legs (Sorry Newt.)

As a practical matter, the fact that she quit the only major political office she ever held keeps her from being a serious candidate.

And be careful who she chooses as a running mate...when she gets bored and quits...we'll be stuck with that person.

Palin is absolutely not stupid. She is sly, devilish and a huge bully. She is nasty and offensive, and when anyone dares to criticize her she throws up her hands in horror and says "poor little me." But don't make the mistake of thinking she is stupid, because she is not. She may not be brilliant, but she makes up for average intellect with huge ambition.

For those of you who are debating whether Palin is stupid or not, let me remind you of a few of her previous answers:

Q: What magazines and newspapers do you read, specifically?

                              A: All of them.

Q: Which of the founding fathers is your favorite?

                              A: All of them.

Q: Which economist has the best advice to fix the economy?

                              A: All of them.

Q: Can you name a Supreme Court decision?

                              A: Roe v. Wade

                              Q: What about another?

A: You betcha, Roe v. Wade

Q: How would you handle a situation like the one that just developed in North Korea?

A: But obviously, we’ve got to stand with our North Korean allies. We’re bound to by treaty –

                              Q: South Korean.

A: Eh, Yeah. And we’re also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes.

In addition, we also have the case where Sarah couldn't even remember which 3 countries signed NAFTA. She also though Africa was a country.

I am not sure about you, but any Vice Presidential candidate who answers those questions the way she did, is simply too stupid to be running for that job.

                                  Hi, Beverly,

New to this site, but, I have to say that Jeb does have weird and strange ideas on immigration. He tried to get the state of Florida to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. His reasoning was that if they did get a drivers license, they would buy auto insurance. Jeb also put this state through quite a bit of idiodic insanity with Terry Schiavo, pushing the state legislature to pass a bill protecting Terry Schiavo, and only Terry Schiavo, which was ruled unconstitutional, but only after a prolonged court fight, which was paid courtesy of the Florida taxpayer.

One can only imagine the damage Jeb could and probably would do to the country. We have had two Bushes run the country, neither was particularly well suited to do so, should we chance it a third time?

OOPS, Sorry, I was wrong. I forgot about Terry Schiavo. I understand he'a republican and that he broke the mold with his immigration stance merits consideration to me. Welcome to the site and keep your opinion coming. Warning: don't expect to not be challenged.

                                  Happy New Year
