Just frakkin great. I'll say what needs to be said: If one gay person so happens to stare at me, touch me, or even insinuate any homosexual tendency toward me...that person will regret it. Something I dont need is some fairy totin' lefty in a foxhole next to me crying about why he is in a combat unit and also a conscientious objector. This is the absolute worse thing for service members because it singles out gays...oh, but a victory for all the gay activist citizens...being too gay will get your people hurt.

Yeah, I can see it now...what a great world-view the US military will have now. Now everyone will associate a person in uniform as possibly being gay. Zero tolerance means they werent in service...it meant they kept their mouth shut in fear of reprisal.

But there many not be enough of them, I think the last estimate was 13,500 out of 1 million? Did we really just change a whole culture so that 13,500 can wear a dress after work?

Serving marines and former marines, e-mail Genneral Amos and thank him, he upheld the highest traditions of the corps, trying to talke care of his troops, knowing that the inept lying quasi socilaist in the white hoiuse will find a way to get rid of him.

I have a son who is a marine corps captain, we have a beacj house that is available to all of his friends.

I deal with 15 to 25 young marine officers, almost on a daily basis.

Their conversation is interesting, especially after a few brews, looks like about 60% of them will put their papers in tommorrow.

Because the troops don't have a say in policy, planning, or implementation of anything. Their job is to follow orders and obey the chain of command. The military is not a democracy for decision making.
As for who is doing the actual fighting, gays and straights both! They are both currently fighting side by side in combat! To suggest that a straight person could not adequately perform his combat duties because he is aware that a member or two on his team were gay is complete hogwash. Gay guys fight everyday in stressful combat situations in Iraq and Afghanistan knowing full well that their team members are straight and yet they still successfully carry out their missions.

I dare any straight soldier to lay his weapon down, leave the front line, and declare that he is unfit for combat duty because he knows that his teammate is gay. I dare any straight soldier to declare that he will compromise his mission or his team's safety just because he knows a member of his team is gay. I dare any straight soldier to refuse any and all military benefits due him and to accept a full prison sentence for his disgraceful desertion.

That's right, if any individual feels so strongly about being in combat with gay soldiers, then please let him leave the military immediately and let those considering enlistment to abandon such notions. This great nation has many powerful enemies and we need the best and strongest of our nation to serve in the military to defend it. The U.S. military has no room for spineless deserters who are ready to just give up when things don't their way.

As for the question, What's the rush to get DADT repealed in a lame duck congress?... Why put off what should have been eliminated at its inception 17 years ago? If you remove the DADT policy, what is there really to implement? No new offices or positions need to be created; no new paperwork or processes need to be implemented. Repeal it and move on.

I will be retiring from the US Navy on 01 April 2011 after 20 years of service. I will be long gone before this is fully implemented in the US Military. I have been stationed on small and big ships during my time in the service. The vast majority of you Arm Chair Quarterbacks have no idea what it is like to be in the Military. Berthing compartments are made up of 60 - 120 people. You sleep in a 3 tier rack (bunk bed) and 3 feet to the side of you is another 3 tier rack. The heads (Bathroom) usaully have 3 - 6 toliets, 2 - 4 showers, and 3 - 6 sinks. It is common to change clothes, take showers, or see people walk around in the briefest of clothing, or in the shower area, completely balls out naked. When I say that their is no privacy on a Navy ship, that is an understatement. I have been station on ships that are "co-ed" and although people are forbidden to show sexual affection on the ship (holding hands, hugging, kissing, sex) it still happens. If caught, these people are punished (fined, reduction in pay grade, etc...) and if it continues to be a problem, one of the two are tranferred off the ship or kicked out of the service. If guys and girls are doing it, Its wouldn't surprise me that gay servicemen are also having close relationships onboard. I have served with gay personnel, although never blantantly or flammingly in my face (because this is against Don't ask, Don't Tell). As a front line supervisor, I see as a disaplinary (sp) problem. I believe their will be instances of people taking their dislike of openly gay people into their own hands. Or their will be people that will be disscrimated against...ie...more problems for unit cohesian/disapline. In the short term their are going to be problems. Some people may choose not to serve or get out due to their dislike for gays. In the long run, just like Blacks and Women these should be smoothed over. The military is just a snap shot of the civilian world. Will gay serving openly in the military will not be the end for the military, but I do think in the short term their will be problems. As a supervisor, I'm not overly enfavor of the repeal, but I can live with it (before I retire that is).

Why are some people so afraid of others that follow a different sexual proclivity?! Who cares how a person expresses their sexuality, we don't allow hetrosexuals to be openly sexual, gays and lesbians won't be allowed any more expression then the rest of the service people. However by passing a repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" we are allowing the people that serve our country in the military to be who they are. There were gay men in the Marine Corps and Navy in the 60's, they didn't bother anyone but they did live in some fear of being outed. If you want to be angry about something, be angry about the people that show up at military funerals using the cover of their god to celebrate the loss of a soldier's life as "god's punishing America for harboring gays. They are the boil on the butt of this country, freedom of speech, give me a break!!! Congratulations to our congree for standing up and doing the right thing, and for those of you that voted against the repeal; you should be ashamed.

So what will a sailor do? There is a long line to take a shower because the ship is on water hours. (the ship cannot make enough water for the demand or equipment problems) with the head ( bathroom) full of guys there are only 4,5 shower stalls and maybe ten sinks. Most have towels around them or shorts. But you need to take that off before going in the 3 ft by 3ft shower stall. Somebody is going to get a free shot. Its going to happen.

In Berthing the same thing you sleep right on top of each other. Someone is going to get a free shot.

It will take longer than a year.

So how many personnel will get discharged (kicked out) for harassing gays?

Someone earlier said it, lets let the military take a vote. No polls set up to ensure someones agenda is met. Lets require every soldier, in all services, to vote yes or no. Then we will see what the military members think about it.

As with the earlier post I was never allowed a vote in anything while in the military but I'd like to see the results of this vote.

At the end of the day soldiers will do what they are ordered to do. Thats the way it is. I did things I was ordered to do which I fundamentally questioned but understood to be for the greater good (no I would not kill children or hang religious groups if told). The same will happen when this is implemented. I just dont see the need... With this happening where will it end???

This is a social agenda and is based on no scientific data. Someone please show me any study with verifiable results showing that homosexuality has anything to do with biology. It doesnt exist and is no different then pedophilia. Being a homosexual or bi-sexual is a choice, not backed by so much as a known gene in science. I realize that homosexuals have no more choice at being atracted to members of thier own sex as I do to Brunettes with dark eyes. I dont know why I'm attracted to this type of woman but I am. The same applies to pedophiles, they are attracted to young children for reasons unknown to science so should they also be granted entry?? Am I comparing homosexuality to pedophilia, yes I am. Whats the difference. Neither have any basis in biology, sex at its root is based on procreation, homosexuals have no more chance of procreating than pedophiles have of procreating with a young child. Having no meaning in the scientific or biological world that makes it a choice. Right or wrong isnt based in nature but by societies willingness to accept a behavior. Society hasnt accepted homosexuality on a broad enough basis or we wouldnt be having this conversation. Pedophiles are imprisoned because society deems it to be deviant behavior. While I think society doesnt feel that homosexuality is as deviant as it used to we are far from being acceptive of it. Until the majority in society accept homosexuality there will be struggles for its members. The US military represents society however we are unwilling to truly take them to task to understand how they feel. We'll use polls and opinions as they are easily manipulated.

They keep men's and women's Boot Camps separate so their isn't any fooling around between the sexes. Now the only way to avoid that issue is to put gay men with the women and gay women with the men. You can't put gay men with gay men and gay women with gay women. So it would also have to be one gay man or woman per company/division. You can't have a company/division of all gays or the problem would be 10 fold. This is going to cause a massive major problem for the military. Unless; 24hr video surveillance of all spaces is monitored. Massive, massive, massive head ache for the military.

Sara- Do you actually think? Gays have fought in every war we've ever had. You just didnt know about it! There have never been unit cohesion breakdowns due to gays in the military. McCain's comment at last minute debate, was all show, and no substance! He's a mean old fool, and you need to educate yourself on the issue. To think I used to have more respect for him...

I am a straight man, and I have not a problem in the world with gays serving openly. Were not serving to just sit around and talk about who we bang. I've caught MANY married soldiers, and higher officials checking me out in the shower, in the latrine, and on the Navy cots at night. So what. I'm comfortable enough in my own sexuality to be a real man & take it as a compliment. So, for all of you who say, "You don't know what it's like to serve...", Well, I do, and it don't bother me in the least. Show some love for your fellow man, not hate.
