Subscribe to RSSA measure that would have offered provisional legal status to some adults who came to America illegally as children failed to advance in a Senate vote Saturday.
Democratic backers of the legislation fell short of the 60 votes to move the DREAM Act legislation forward. Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Jon Tester of Montana, Max Baucus of Montana, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, and Ben Nelson of Nebraska voted against bringing the bill to the floor; Republican Sens. Richard Lugar, Lisa Murkowski, and Robert Bennett voted for it.
The vote was 55-41.
The DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act would have allowed illegal immigrants with a high school diploma or a GED to apply for conditional U.S. status if they are under the age of 30 and arrived the U.S. before the age of 16. After a long process -- including two years of service in the military or enrollment in college -- they would then have been eligible to apply for legal immigrant status.
Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions, who led GOP opposition against the legislation, called the measure “amnesty” and argued that it "incentivizes" illegal immigration. GOP opponents also noted that it would have allowed some illegal immigrants with criminal records to gain citizenship.
Advocates of the measure tried to target senators from states with high Latino populations, saying that the DREAM Act would reward hard work by young adults who were brought to the United States by no fault of their own.
Majority Leader Harry Reid originally scheduled a vote on the legislation last week but abruptly postponed it in favor of taking up the House's version of the bill during the final days of the lame duck session.

Now, create a law that states that: The government of the country they came from must reimburse the US for all the money that THEIR CITIZENS HAVE STOLEN FROM THE US! It's as simple as that! track them and send the bill to THEIR GOVERNMENT AND LET THEIR GOVERNMENT DEAL WITH COLLECTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THEIR LOSSES.

"GOP blocks DREAM Act" isn't really true, is it, since three Republicans voted in favor - which is all that was needed. Five Democrats voting against it is what killed the bill.

I agree. It was the Democrats that voted this down - lost by 5 votes and 5 Dems voted against it. Not the GOPs fault.

agree, first we secure the borders, make sure only people who are allowed to work in the US get jobs and then we deal with the other issues. We don't try to do it all at the same time because we know that doesn't work.

Do any of you even understand what the DREAM Act would do? It has nothing to do with adults who came here...that was their own decision. The DREAM Act is about legalizing adults who were only children without a voice when they came to the United States. Government thinks denying the DREAM Act will help the issue of illegal immigration. In reality, declining it will only cause illegal immigrants to use marriage as a way to obtain they're green card. I know this is wrong, but the government leaves them no choice. Children who grew up in this country consider it home and deserve the same privileges most of us were born with. We have no right to judge those who were born somewhere less fortunate.
Stop thinking of only yourself for once, do the right thing.

NBC is obviously biased toward the Democrats. Why else would the headline say that the GOP blocked the bill when more Democrats voted against it than Republicans.
While I agree with and feel your outrage against illegal immigrantion, and children of those illegals, your plan doesn't make a lot of sense.
The illegal entered the United States, and continued to live, be schooled, and cared for by American taxpayers, in and of the illegals' own free wills. Their governments did not force them to cross the U.S. border. The illegal is wholly and completely responsible for breaking the law and thus, must themselves repay the American public for the money stolen from taxpayers.
Bottom line: There should be no illegal immigrants in the United States. You have been plucked clean by Democrat-pandering to anyone and everyone for votes. Starting with Jimmy "The Sanctuary" Carter, Ex-Mayor Tom "Come Live In L.A." Bradley, and their ilk. If these people could give voting rights to illegal immigrants, they would do it.
If the illegals could not get jobs in the U.S., and were aggressively followed up on, and ejected, well, they wouldn't be here now.

Trying to cram - a $1.27 Trillion Omnibus with 6,500 earmarks, DREAM that would have provided immediate welfare, unemployment and education benefits to millions of illegals in addition to amensty, DADT that would alter the very nature of our military/possibly crippling it in a time of war and rushing START that would essentially kill our right to develop missile defense and our right to defend ourselves - at the last minute without sensible debate/time is a travesty.
In addition Reid has rolled 100 separate and desperate environmental bills into one that amount to a giant land grab by the federal government that will punish jobs and economic recovery for years to come.
America voiced its opinion in the last election. This last minute cram and jam job with politicians who were fired is tantamount to giving the majority the middle finger. Despicable.

@oftirado Illegals get plenty of services and benefits. Some states even allow them to get driver's licenses. I agree there are many citizens that don't want to work but there are also plenty that do and can't find a job because of all the illegals employed in this country.

How about the US reimburse these families for the millions they paid in property, sales, and income taxes that they will never see, but your lazy asses have no problem filing for SSDI, SS, and Medicare for years and gaining more than you put in.

Secure the borders, then deal with amnesty is right. I have no problem with immigration, LEGAL immigration. That's how my parents got here. Applied, went through medical testing etc. The one part that doesn't sound bad is for these 'kids' to serve in the military. That might not be a bad idea. But, the college part I have a problem with, because we the taxpayers will probably end up paying for most of their education (which we likely are allready).
If we start down the road of amnesty now, just think of the flood of illegals we will have after it passes. Without secure borders... not a good idea.
Although it's only a portion of the proposal, I feel a need to speak on this part alone.
While I was on Active Duty, I served with a lot of guys that weren't citizens, but they put their lives on the line everyday for a bunch of stark-raving-lunatics back home crying about their freedoms that never served a day in their life. Well, I say any non-citizen, legal or not, that's willing to die for this country does IN FACT deserve to be entitled to all of the freedoms and benefits of those that have not served!
Those of you who say they don't get financial aid are not reading some of the posts! California's in-state tuition is paid for by the taxpayers. Illegals now qualify for the in-state rate due to a recent court decision! Why???? One thing that is forgotten in this whole issue is that foreign nationals have served and do serve presently in our military. They can apply for citizenship and are almost always granted it. There have been citizenship ceremonies in the recent past that have been publicized showing soldiers taking the oath of citizenship. However, these were Legal not illegal individuals! Get it?

CL, I may not pay those prices in the grocery stores yet, but the taxes I pay to help support them and the AMERICAN workers with no jobs more than makes up for it. Dream Act is dead. Next year it won't get past the House. Gutierrez, Boxer, Durbin, Schumer and all the "open border hug an illegal" Dems just like them got shot down. There chance for back door amnesty is over and hopefully the Congress will follow the lead of the states and crack down on all illegals and orce them to self deport.

Sorry but they do not qualify for any kind of help from the gov. People who think that need to do research. This will be a domino effect, they don't get a higher education or citizen from jointing the military just think if one of you children were to grow up and join up with one (no good job not a citizen) how can they provide for their spouse or kids. You only think of now but not what could happen later. Their came here without say, been here for so long, have hook up with citizens and probly have kids here, why not?
I have an idea...7-10 years serving overseas with the military (with your family with you) or the same amount of time overseas with a Peace Corps type of program. Either way...your family goes with you...whatever kids you might have become citizens of your home country and when your time is up...you all apply to become a US citizen. If you are killed/hurt...your spouse/family keeps working on completing the sentence with a small stipend from the government. You decide it's too much work...you're outside the country and can't come back in.
With this idea...you will work your illegal status off...you're not clogging up schools/welfare/health care...since your whole bunch is with you. The magic of this...you work toward the grunt work of learning what it means to be a US citizen. If you want more education than this...you pay for it out of your own pocket...rather than the state/federal government paying for foreign nationals to get an education. To keep any type of "Nightmare Act" from happening ever again...all your nuclear family members will be accounted for.
It's not perfect...but it should stop foreign nationals from waving their flags in our streets wanting to head to the head of the line.

The fact is that illegal immigrants do the job that we, US citizens, do not want to do. These people came to this country when they were kids, they were not responsible for their acts yet. And the act offered provisional legal status to the ones that had college education or were willing to risk their life by joining the military. Most of the unemployed people here do not have college education (check out the rates) and is not willing to enroll in the military.

1. LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Not Illegal Aliens from another Country. As even at the beginning, the Native Americans welcomed them (since they did not know better) as to where the Holiday Thanksgiving came from. The majority of the original Colonists came here to escape Taxes, Religious Oppression (as to why this nation was founded on "In God We Trust" (not "In Government nor King we trust") or released from Debtor Prison. The argument that the Native Americans sprung out of the ground or thin air is incorrect based on the DNA evidence that they came over the Land Bridge, so even the Native Americans are not exactly "Native" and related to the Eskimos, who are related to the Asians, some even believe that some of the Native Americans displaced the original people that were here before them and chased them to the south, similar to the Aztecs, Incas, etc..
2. Of course during Spain's greed for Gold the Conquistadors wiped out many of the Native Americans and even banned the Mayans from practicing their Culture, until recently 2010. So the ancestors of the Mexicans have a very violent history of destroying other Cultures for Greed.
3. Sorry per International Reciprocal Citizenship Laws. Until the denounce their parents Citizenship they are still Citizens of that Country, NOT Citizens of the US. This is how John McCain born in the Panama Canal Zone (Foreign Country), is still a US Citizen and the children of Illegal Aliens are NOT US Citizens.

Also many say that the Illegal Aliens and their children did not commit any crimes, how about the Federal Crime that allowed the US Government to seize all of Las Vegas from "Organized Crime" and throw their arses into the Federal Penitentiary for many consecutive years of prison terms, called Tax Evasion. As many Work for Cash Only, no employer paperwork as employer paperwork means more deductions, less money, and more apprehensions and deportations. So their parents are guilty of Tax Evasion (Federal Crime) and their children are if they did the same.
5. Wrong again. a. After the defeat of California Proposition 187, "Save Our State" Initiative by US Taxpayer Funded Lawyers of La Raza, this set the Nationwide Legal Precedent for all Illegal Aliens to receive Public Assistance, Public Housing, Public Education, Welfare, Unemployment, and all US Taxpayer Funded Services and Benefits. While as previously mentioned not putting in one cent into US Taxes (as they are exempt from State and Local Taxes while using Public Assistance).
b. In 2006 President Bush attempted to stop the Illegal Aliens with his 2006 Illegal Alien Act (Law), that was reviewed for Constitutionality by the US Supreme Court before going to US Congress, with the Democrats at US Congress watering it down from Apprehensions and Deportations to Amnesty. In 2006 the Illegal Aliens in the US (23 Million) Illegally (no permits, disruptions of trade commerce and traffic, violations of Local, State and Federal Laws) Demonstrated Nationwide as organized by La Raza, M.E.Ch.A, etc., against the President Bush 2006 Illegal Alien Act, US Congress fearing for their lives chickened out as expected by La Raza, M.E.Ch.A, etc. in passing the Constitutional Law to protect US Citizens.
c. So now Bankrupt Illegal Alien Harbor State of California spends over $10 Billion per year on Illegal Aliens of their $85 Billion per year Budget, the $10 Billion then becomes unavailable for Education, Infrastructure, Law Enforcement, Firefighting, Medical Facilities, Local Governments, State Government, and other programs for LEGAL California Residents.
6. a. At Bankrupt Illegal Alien Harbor State of California the current Statistic is that only One Illegal Alien Works and Ten are collecting US Taxpayer Paid Public Assistance (one less expense that they have to pay for, equals more money) as they also have their Families with them and are sending all the money "home" as Citizens of another Country.
b. This money is saved in their own Country so that when they return "home" they can live like kings due to the monetary exchange rates and lower cost of living.
c. As stated to international news media the Illegal Aliens have no intent of ever becoming US Citizens due to the high cost of living, taxes, language barrier, cultural differences, etc..
7. a. Currently those that do work are taking away the jobs of the children of US Citizens, High School Students, High School Graduates, desperate College Students, homeless US Citizens and causing this category to be twice the National Unemployment Average.
b. Then there are also those that are currently taking away the jobs of those in the US Construction Labor Unions.
8. Of a matter of known National Security.
a. First these children have never sworn nor affirmed any allegiance to the United States of America, as in the Pledge of Allegiance, and even indicated the Internationally recognized Signal of the Defeat of the US, by taking down the American Flag and putting up the Mexican Flag during Cinco De Mayo (not even celebrated in Mexico). You can down play the importance of the American Flag, it just means that you have not read the Pledge of Allegiance as used during the US Citizenship Ceremony as the sworn or affirmed Oath that also denounces the Citizenship of any other Nation. b. The over 23 Million Illegal Aliens are known to cooperate with the Terrorists:
1). this is either as forced by the Mexican Drug Lords,
2). the stated Goals of La Raza, M.E.Ch.A., etc. of the overthrow of States to form Aztlan with this goal being similar to the Terrorists Goal of defeat of the US.

Do your own independent research. You can obtain that information from the California State Government under the Freedom of Information Act. The rest of the information can be obtained from the Federal Government under the Freedom of Information Act specifically the Requests of States for Federal Bailouts (the States Justifications, Itemized Expenditures).

The Dream Act requires that the people serve our country by either going to college or serveing in the military. So how does going to college (while some if not more are given free scholarships) serve our Country?? Many scholarship funds have been cut back due to the Recession. I think we should be taking care of the U.S. citizens first with those benefits. We are always so busy taking care of other countries while placing our own people in the back of the line. And since when is a 30 old, still considered a child, that would be admitted under this act? If they truly wish to become a U.S. citizen, then they should be required to serve in the military system for a term of 4 to 6 years at least to help pay back for some of the benefits and jobs (taken away from the unemployed U.S. citizen) that they received while in the US illegally. By their going to college is only serving themselves. They take away the admission slots from other U.S. citizens seeking to enter college, because the minorities are given extra special consideration over the other major groups of U.S. citizens. That is a complete slap in our faces when the student came here illegally. Too many of our own children must take out grants to attend college that must be paid back with interest. An illegal student should not be given extra benefit .
Not entirely sure about the Dream act. It does help show you are willing to fight for this country. Just drop the College part of it. Or go for Military first then College. People who immigrated legally don't entirely appreciate those who come illegally. 10 years is usually the wait time... and they probably know more about the USA than most American's do.

I keep hearing a lot of talk about "securing our borders." How, pray tell, are we supposed to secure a 2000 mile long border? Sen. McCain famously stated, "Build the dang fence!" Fine, then what; problem solved? I don't think so; any military vet can tell you how to easily scale a fence. So can any Mexican or other Latin and/or South American. More border patrol? How many officers do think it would take? There are 3,520,000 yards in 2000 miles. If we place agents (one to a seat or foxhole) every 100 yards apart, that would take 35,200 guards; for an eight hour shift. Since there are still 24 hours in a day, it would now take 105,600 guard to man the border 24/7. But, wait, there are holidays, vacations, sick days, etc.; what about weekends (or do we work them 365-1/4 days per year)? Just to fill in the weekends, and keep a 40 hour week, we now need 147,840 guards. How about vacations, sick days, supervisors, etc. That would take another 10%-20% to take up that slack, or a minimum of 162,624 guards that average about $40,000 per year (or, should it be minimum wage? That would be a real inducement to guard vigilantly, wouldn't it?) and we add another $6,504,960,000 to the budget (that's 6.5 billion, for those who are comma-challenged).
Then, if one of the little latin-runners manages to get between the guards (a hundred yards is a long area to watch in the dead of night), we might need to double them (@ $13 billion) to get coverage down to 50 yards (or $26 billion to get 25 yards).
So, to all who constantly use the phrase, "secure our borders," I ask: what's the plan?
Now it's time to make sure that there are no illegals in our school systems. The only reason that they are there is because state formulas, as well as money from the feds (that we all pay), goes based on the number of students. If you make a minor change in the formulas to specify that the money only goes based on legal students, then the game changes. How many schools systems would welcome illegals if they actually had to foot the bill for all of them? Not many, if any, that's for sure.

I commend Congressional Democrats who had the courage to vote against the DREAM Act. They proved that, at least in this instance, they are upholding USA laws and the REAL American Dream, rather than pandering for Hispanic votes.

This isn't just about lack of a piece of paper as MJ said. It is about becoming an American through the proper channels, learning English, learning our customs and government (ugly as it is most of the time), paying your taxes, etc. These kids are entitled to be taken care of, but they don't deserve scholarships just because they are poor immigrants. They need to graduate from a high school. We already have too many kids in college who are functionally illiterate. Furthermore, they don't have to be college graduates to contribute to this country. There are plenty of college graduates looking for adequate jobs to pay for their college loans. It's not right to just give it away to poor immigrants, legal or not.

Wrong this Bill also alowed the illegal parents to stay if their kids were between the ages of 12 and 18 and nothing in the Bill punished those parents for coming in the first place. This was amnesty on the tax payer's dime. Read the Bill before you post that way you might not seem so ignorant of the facts.

Next law we need is a repeal of the amendment allowing children born in the US to automatically be granted US citizenship. There's no use arguing about whether it is right or wrong to give undocumented students legal status. No it is not an amnesty, if it were then even the parents would get the conditional residency, which they do not. Also it isn't fair that American citizens don't get help for college, but sometimes people just need to look in the right places for that extra money. I am undocumented, and without the governments help I have been able to go to college and so far...I'm only a couple hundred bucks in debt. I have studied my butt off trying to keep my scholarships and trying to keep my academics up. I never had a say in coming here or not, my parents just wanted to get me away from all the violence in my home country. Unfortunately illegal immigration was their last resort. But if you look at it, it takes more money to deport a single illegal immigrant, than to give them a conditional residency. Plus it could help generate more jobs, because undocumented students know two languages fluently and even three or four. This makes them profitable and opens up the competitiveness of job seeking, it might not be great for born citizens, but it definitely forces them to study harder if they want to compete with those that weren't born here. The fail of the DREAM Act today isn't a loss and it shouldn't discourage undocumented students, it should cause them to keep fighting and to keep studying and prove that we're here to succeed and make something of ourselves, even though we never got the chance to say YES or NO to coming here.
Do you know what you never see though? I agree that citizenship should be obtained properly and that American rights should be applied to American citizens first--I also feel that American laws should apply to American citizens first.

This particular bill EXCUSED 3 MISDEMEANORS. I don't know about you, but I don't have any misdemeanors on my record and don't agree that people with any misdemeanors become a U.S. citizen. We have enough people we are paying for in jail.
Not to mention, per this bill, these kids had 10 YEARS to attend college for 2 YEARS. That is simply ridiculous. I attended 2 years of college right after high school and finished within 2 years. This bill did not require that they finish college, just that they attend, and don't forget they could have had misdemeanors too.

I agree with your statement on funding these illegals in our school system. Our american children are finding it harder to get financial aid and to get a job after graduation. The american children that I know are hard working and dedicated students. Most of them are on the honor roll. The illegals I know are here for the quick buck that will be sent back to their original country. I work in public school system and it cost the state and city schools many tax payer dollars to make special concessions to the illegal children through translators, (because their parents refuse to learn english and speak english with their children) also with providing free lunches. Our american children are falling short because of the concessions given to these illegal children. I have faith in our american children to graduate with high grades and to make america better. My wife had to go through many hoops to come to the USA legally and is still adhearing to all the laws on her path to citizenship. I don't know about NY but here in CA they pay in-state tuition as ruled by the CA supreme court. So if your kid from NY wanted to come to school here in CA they (you) would pay more than an illegal who went to a CA high school. Also, in CA it is illegal to keep an illegal out of public school. We even have kids who live in Mexico who come across the border every day, get on a school bus or trolley and go to school here in the US. I know what I am talking about regarding CA.
We have close to 5 million that graduate from college this year. Many of them will have a very hard time getting a job in this economy. Yeah, that is smart. Sorry but I have personaly seen too many illegals take good paying jobs, not just field work or landscaping, to fall for that "jobs Americans don't want" crap. Half of the construction industry in Nevada is Latino. You can't get a drywalling job unless you are Hispanic. All the food service (bakeries), fast food and housekeeping jobs are taken by Hispanics.
They do use social services. I have personally worked with some that had their wives apply for, and receive, WIC and food stamps using a different name and fake ID.
They have fake Social Security cards and fake drivers license. They all have 6 different names to get away with breaking the law. If they commit a serious crime they just run back to Mexico for a few years.
Our economy would not fail if the illegals were to get kicked out. We could reduce the deficit or even end up with a surplus because we (taxpayers) wouldn't have to pay for everything. There would be jobs for people. Employers would be forced to raise the wages because the only reason they are so low is because an illegal can't complain about them.
If the DREAM Act had passed it would have cost the taxpayer more by allowing illegals that qualify to be eligible for federally-funded scholarships and assistance program. There were no limitations on how many could qualify either. Furthermore, it also would have reversed current federal law to allow states to provide in-state tuition to illegals.

The DREAM Act needs to be redesigned to only include active military service, i.e. not including Reserve or Guard service, and no protection to the parents who came here illegally. After they complete service with an honorable discharge, then they can receive citizenship and go to college.
We also need another Act sometime in the next 24 months that will make it illegal for private businesses to hire illegal aliens (revoking business licenses is the punishment if caught), as well as making it illegal to rent to illegal aliens (a hefty fine if caught).

This Dream Act was nothing but amnesty for all, and free college, costing us 6 BILLION. Isn't that a nice reward for just coming here and dreaming up a good sob story? I can see you did some research...however, most people like you do not understand the difference beteen a green card and citizenship / naturalization. Military personals with a green card (this means they are not citizen but are allowed to live permanently in the US if they stay good. Green card holders can not vote or hold a US passport.) Such military personals with a green card can get an expedite naturalization. Normally, a green card holde must wait 5 years before filing for naturalization / citizenship (status one acquired allowing them to vote and hold a US passport). The problem is the military will not enrol anyone who doesn't have the green card. (There is a small exception for about 1000 people a year who already have a work permit and who have special skills such as arabic language ability...Spanish language is not considered a soecial ability). This means that illegal alien can not enroll into the military. the DREAM act would have help them enrolled...It wasn't a useless act. It was the only way to let them enroll into the military. (I am a practicing attorney for 10 years in the field of immigration))

Well, if they're so big and brave, why are they not staying in the Mexican military and fighting for their own country. Answer, because they get paid more here. That Dream act is our Nightmare. I will explain what happened to my Senior NCO (currently filling my CSM position here at Afghanistan).
During the Vietnam War, he felt that it was necessary to come to the aid of the United States. He came across the border and went to directly the nearest USMC Recruitment Station. He joined the USMC, went thru "Bootcamp" and was sent to Vietnam. After his second tour he announced that he was Illegally in the US. Eventually, he became a US Citizen after being most of the US Wars from Vietnam till now. He is the Exception that many would like to claim for the current Illegal Aliens, not the Norm, as his primary actions stated his actual intentions; he did not hide in the US waiting to be found as an Illegal Alien.
This is unlike the current situation were the Illegal Aliens intent is to milk the US Taxpayers money then go back to Mexico or the Country that they still have Official Citizenship of. One of the primary reasons why the US Military does not accept Illegal Aliens especially of Hispanic Ancestry is currently their loyalty will never be to the US, and US Constitution as many owe their loyalty to gangs like MS-13, MS-14, Surenos, Nortenos, etc. or Illegal Aliens Organizations that claim the Goal of the overthrow of States to form Aztlan.
This has been so much of a problem for the US Military that during their first Medical Exam, new Recruits are screened for "tats" (tatooes) that affiliate them with those gangs.

Hypothetically, how do you train in Operational Experience of US Military Asymmetric Warfarewithout getting them killed. After Training, you detach them from the US Military and assign them for a few years to Federal Law Enforcement at the Borders so that they learn low intensity, low risk Insurgency Counter Insurgency Warfare. Then you bring them back into the US Military (paperwork drill) and send them to South and Central Americas with various Agencies (medium intensity, moderate risk). So many that are US Military Asymmetric Warfare are well versed (from actual experience about Illegal Aliens from Mexico, South and Central Americas). Eventually, if successful they are sent to additional training, then possibly deployed to the Middle East, etc. (high intensity, high risk). So many know from first hand experience about things that the Illegal Aliens are doing that are similar to the activities of terrorists, like money laundrying (funds undetected out of US), smuggling, human trafficking, etc. and the identical goals of both the Terrorists and Illegal Aliens.

Most people pretend to see the world in black and white, and wish to ignore the fact that since the Reagan Administration's immigration reform in the late 1980's, we have not dealt with Federal Government failure to have a rational immigration policy.
The problem with "illegal immigration" is that migratory behavior that was totally legal for over 200 years in this country was made illegal in the 1960s--thanks to the fears of ignorant zero population growth zealots.
Since then, we partially restored sensible immigration laws in the 80s that allowed for political refugees that the US and the USSR created in Central America.
The fact is that immigrants who are culturally "American", who speak, write and use English as their native language, who have attended public schools and graduated from High schools, colleges, universities and vocational programs already (i.e., we have already invested BILLIONS in these folks) may as well be recognized as Americans (because they ARE--immigration laws do not define nationality because they do not define CULTURAL IDENTITY)
The fact is that these people work here and serve in the private, public and military sectors of our economy.
The only ones who benefit from this blockage are
(1) the few politicians who take on populist views (regardless of how ignorant they truly are) and get re-elected to continue trashing this country with other poorly crafted legislation that continues to promote further government failure.
(2) the people who blame immigration for the deficit (or for their personal woes), when, in reality, the deficit is a function of too much welfare state relative to the stock of capital in the country and not enough labor to support profitable capital formation that would actually reduce the deficit in relation to the size of our economy.

the military has always had non-citizens serving. Of the non-citizens serving now that you know how many of them are here illegally and how many are here legally (green card, visa). For those that are here illegally what documents did they show to the recruiter to be allowed in? Just curious.

Yup I guess it is fair then. I'm almost done with college (luckly I have GI Bill) but all my friends who are American citizens will be graduating with 20 to 40k in student debt. I paid for college and my husband's college, no tax dollars used...and what exactly makes people think that illegal immigrants do not pay taxes? I work in a payroll department, and we do not verify that a SSN is correct, neither does the IRS, so income taxes are taken from anyone who is paid...same with sales tax or property tax, if you buy something, you pay taxes!

I do think we need to secure our borders, but lets get real, if people want the American Dream, and it takes years to get here legally, then they are going to come here illegally...it has been going on for DECADES....and there has to be a better solution than send "them" all back or keep "them" all here! this seems to be a reasonable solution, give young people who had nothing to do with the decision to come here illegally a way to becoming a legal, productive TAX-PAYING citizen!

As for the kids...if they're so well educated and assimilated into our culture...let them head back to their home countries and make a difference in those cultures. As soon as the children of the Illegal Aliens became cognisant of their Illegal Alien Status they became Complicit in committing any crimes of their parents. So how many more Felony Crimes do they have to commit before you realize that.

So your idea is that these "kids" (up to 30 years old, according to the bill) should be REWARDED for crimes their parents committed? Most of the people posting here don't seem to come to grips with the fact that this act would NOT have required earning a college degree. It only required being ENROLLED in a college for two years. This would crush our community college system (which, by the way, costs very little to attend and is supported by TAXES taken from people who do not evade them by working for cash they remit to Mexico). Furthermore, aliens--who would be LEGAL in order to qualify--that serve in the armed forces can usually attain citizenship when their stints are complete. This bill was nothing but undeserved AMNESTY and a way to recognition for the law-breaking and benefit-usurping families of the high-schoolers. I was treated to a mini-demonstration in front of the local high school a few days ago; a dozen or so Mexican kids hollering "all I want is an education!" Yeah, my kids, too. My daughter just finished paying off every penny of her college loans after 15 years. And I worked my way through college and graduate school. And my husband is a LEGAL immigrant. After he attained citizenship, we waited EIGHT YEARS for his son to get a LEGAL visa. So get in line. I'm not one bit interested in your whining and complaining.
TAC 210: Sure they should be allowed to apply for legal immigration from the native country of their parents and after 8 years of living in this country legally they can apply for citizenship. Two things:
1. In spite of being an illegal immigrant, schools allow you to enroll and get a degree. Feel fortunate that there is no Federal law that prohibits illegals from enrolling in school.
2. Take that education and go to any other country - legally and settle there. You don't have to know anyone in that country or be greatly familiar with that culture!
I and my spouse came to the US for education (legally!), got a degree from the topmost medical and engineering schools. We didn't know anybody here. Certainly never had the "what do I do, where do I go" spineless attitude.
Point is, that these so called "hard-working, best and brightest" dreamers know, that they will get any low-wage jobs easily in the US. If they are really bright and get a good education, they have ample opportunities around the world, no need to give ridiculous arguments to stay in the US.
BINA: Here's a thought ... since your parents are still illegal, why don't you all go back to the country from which you came? We gave you a great education, and I'm sure there are schools in your native country that would be thrilled to have you. Then, when you graduate, you can work LEGALLY and contribute to YOUR country. I don't know where you live Bina, but the town I live in is LOADED or should I say WAS loaded :) with illegals that enjoyed every single aspect of high school AND if they chose, college. My husband is out 100k for his ordeal to come to this country as a HIGHLY EDUCATED CONTRIBUTOR TO SOCIETY. He has never been in search of the great free ride as so many are in this country because to put it plainly, if you want something you need to work for it. This government has caused the illegals obtain a sense of laziness with the freebies because now you all think Americans are responsible to pay for your rent, groceries, children, hospital bills, schools, YOU NAME IT! Your attitude Bina is that of millions just like you and that is the problem. You can start by getting an education and quit waiting on America to show up at your door with your free life.
At age 23 you should know what to do. Since you don't, let me help. You need to go back to your country and if you want to return come back in a legal manner. It's easy. Your illegal parents need to be picked up and deported.
Bina - your here illegally, you are 23, you have know since you were 11 that you were in violation of our laws. You could have taken any number of actions to correct that over the last 13 years but took no action. You have a native country, it simply is not the US, your life should be there, you can apply for legal immigration to the US and if approved once here you can apply for citizenship just as my mother did many years ago.

Why are you blaming the senators? Your parents brought you here illegally. Not the senators. Shouldn't you be thanking your parents for making your life hell? They knew what would eventually happen with you. They just didn't care as long as they got what they wanted from the legal American tax payer. Look at the bright side though, you get all the benefits of a legal citizen except you get your healthcare and education free while legal citizens pay for theirs and yours. Ontop of all that you got a free tax payer funded education by living here illegally. Your parents never had to pay any property taxes therefore they didn't contribute to the funding of your education. The citizens of the community in which you lived paid for that. Those are the people you should be thanking. Your best bet is to take your first class American education back to mexico and make lots of money with it.
Instead of going back to your country, I suspect you will stay here and do exactly what your parents did. Live off the legal tax payer as much as humanly possible without any regard for the people who made this country what you like so much.

It is time to look at this bill and for us to understand it. These are children who came over here and have lived here all their lives. They had no voice in the decision,. This is their home and they deserve to become citizens. Not passing this bill is a huge mistake based on bigotry,
Hey Come on Now, here in CA our great legislature just a few weeks ago made it easier for illegals to get tuition assistance over legal kids. CA is a sanctuary state for these criminals. You have no f*****g idea what things are like here.
You do realize that under the DREAM Act, the immigrant would have to have a clean criminal record, right? They're not "giving us their criminals."
Prolly gonna make a lot of ppl mad, but this is needed to allow those that ARE upstanding citizens (and are here through no fault/want of their own) to actually BECOME tax paying, productive citizens. (and not forced to sell drugs or do other illegal activity to pay the bills/survive.) You do realize that there ARE good people out there right? There are THOSE THAT ARE HERE because they were brought here at a VERY YOUNG age and did not chose to be here that want to make a positive difference. These "future citizens" would be required to go to college or serve in the military.
Sounds agreeable to me.
1. They broke their own Country's CRIMINAL Laws. As their Immigration Laws are Criminal Offensives. And the parents and children are still Citizens of their own Nation per International Recipocal Citizenship Laws, until they Swear or Affirm US Citizenship and denounce the other Nations Citizenship.
2. They broke Federal Laws (not a "Criminal" Offense still a pattern of Criminal Activity).
3. If they ever worked for Cash Only to avoid Taxes that is a Federal Criminal Volation, as Tax Evasion.
4. To pay for their Coyotes to get them into the US, if they smuggled or carried Drugs, that is a Criminal Offense.
5. If their children knew of their Parents Illegal Activities, or their own Illegal Status, they are complicite in the commission of Criminal Activities.
6. If they have committed violent crimes as committed by Gangs MS-13, MS-14, La Familia, Surenos, Nortenos, etc. then also Criminal Activities. examples: murdering of innocents as gang intiation, gang rapes as gang intiation, etc..

These "future citizens" need to go home to where they are already citizens of their nation per the International Recipical Citizenship Agreements and Laws; then come back legally or make their Nation as to how they want it and not attempting to turn this into Aztlan.
And do not even think about dumping your problem on us (US Military). Unless you are willing to enter the US Military to deal with any potential problems that they create, that would also include you knowing all the languages of all the Illegal Aliens while in combat with no additional taxpayer funded language school or training on your own time (including you not sleeping). Or if they demand special requirements like food, cultural awareness classes, etc. then you pay for that out of your own pocket, NO Taxpayer Money (US Military pays Taxes). NEVER volunteer us (US Military) to do something that you YOURSELF are unwilling to do.
Do it legally - the Dream Bill was never the answer. Way too many loopholes. Illegals all go home and try entering legally.
