Week Ahead: Holiday special and a Year Ahead

VIDEO: The lame-duck session is about to move into rapid-fire mode with votes this weekend on “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” DREAM, and funding the government. Then next week is dominated by START, which Obama wants to sign before heading to Hawaii for the holidays. Plus, a special look at predictions for next year, including a push for tax and debt reform, the GOP looking to de-fund health care, health care likely ends up in the Supreme Court, a White House shakeup is likely, and troops begin to come home from Afghanistan in July.

Man I tell you it’s been a rough week. Shucks it looks like half the country is buried up in a snow bank and the other half is froze up. Icicles plumb down to Florida. Brrrrr Hope everyone can take a few moments out their busy Holiday schedule and stop down to the Dew Drop Inn and partake of a Hot Toddy or two.

Red I hope that you don’t think that your efforts on my behalf yesterday are going to go unrewarded. Libirtitinis for you and all the rest of my Lady Friends are going to be on the Hill Folk tonight. You’ll are the doggonedest crowd I’ve ever seen for ignoring the Thunder and grabbing aholt of the Lightnin’ . Makes an old man proud to stand up with you whenever he can.

For those of you that are fixing to get time off for the Holidays I hope you’ll have a Merry Christmas. Me personally I’m kind of stuck for the Duration all though unlike our Senator’s I don’t have the luxury of b!tching about it. Reckon that makes me a Heathen.

As always my thanks and appreciation to our hosts for their time, giving me a little place to stand, a subject to comment on, a forum to put it in, and their indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little off subject. I purely do appreciate it. Hope you’ll have a fine weekend and good fun among folks that you know and love. To my fellow participants keep well, keep safe, and keep the faith. We’ll make it. See you’ll next week

Now Drive-by lets fire us off a little “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer and some Elvis “Blue Christmas” in the front room and keep it mellow with old Bing in the back. Barkeep set everybody up a round and let’s get this Party Started before the RH ex St shows up to drag me home

IR- Tell that barkeep to set me up a couple of longneck Buds- I'm on my way. While I'm firing up the sleigh, see if the beat-box has a copy of Marion Worth's "Shake Me I Rattle (Squeeze me, I Cry), will you? I want to play something special for my weepy friend Ohio John when I get in there.

And yes, been a REAL rough week. And it ain't just the weather, neither. Keep the faith, folks. We not only won, we are STILL WINNING, and WILL win AGAIN!!

Independent Redneck Va.

It'll be"Blue Christmas” for John Bohneor; Boo hoo hoo Boo hoo hoo!!! sniff sniff He'll probably cry wishing the President a "bon voyage" when the President jets off to Hawaii. The Boner is so emotional you know. I don't think I can stand watching this clown Boo Hoo again.

I'll take that set up IR.

Have fun everyone preparing for the Holidays. Domenico & co enjoy your party.

Stay tuned next week, when I unveil the special gifts I've picked out for the righties that lurk around here! That doesn't include you though Grimey! Good to see ya tonight!

I'm a healthcare worker and we don't get much time off on any holidays!!!!

Have to take vacation when there are no important holidays!

Sick people refuse to stop getting sick just for the holidays!

If people knew everything about Healthcare in America they would be stumbling all over themselves to fix it more and quicker!!!!!!

It's great that Senator Kyl will have to work and do his Patriotic Duty to The American People!!!

That was quite a holiday spectacular Domenico and Andy. Another fun week here thanks to the FR hosts and their helper Santas.

Time to wish everyone a good weekend and head over to the Dew Drop. For those headed somewhere for Christmas, have a safe trip and a joyful holiday.

Since it is cold all the way to Florida, Kioki coffees will warm you through and through--Kalua, brandy, creme de cacao, add hot coffee and top it with whipped cream.

Hi IR: I'm headed to the Dew Drop Inn too, we have to warm up for the coming holiday season, don't you think? Looking forward to my Libiritini, been a week that we have really earned it! What oh what have we learned this week? No surprise from the University of Maryland Study, Fox "News" viewers the most misinformed. I guess those of us who participate here regularly recognize that from some of the claptrap that gets posted here from that bunch. Reading some of the posts from those suffering from the jobs crisis in this country was heartbreaking, and I hope some of the powers that be read them too. I want you all to know that I am metaphorically wrapping my arms around you this season, wishing I could do more. But, we keep fighting the good fight knowing that it is YOUR needs that should be paramount. What else have we learned? Could be that DADT is on its way to the ash heap of history, and about time for it too. Now, we need to move on other things like recognition of marriages, so that we can bring all into the blessings of full equality. The Dream Act is another that should pass, if there is any fairness. I would really like to hear one of our right wing friends defend not funding the 9/11 bill. If you call them heroes, why do you not want to help them? I truly don't get it. My cherubs are heading back to the farm next week, things will be popping here for sure. Looking forward to the activity. Feisty...don't you think it is about time to kick back and reflect on the last year? Been some battles royal my friend. IR, I am headed your way, I can hear "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" now...save me a seat at the bar! Almost forgot to thank my hosts! Thanks, guys! Really enjoyed your Christmas show!

tWas the week before Christmas, and all through the House,
Pelosi was screaming "Obama's a louse,"

The stunning demise of the omnibus bill,
Had republicans grinning all over the Hill.

6000+ earmarks just went down in flames
For the voters had spoken, and were taking names.

The democrat ranks which will soon be diminished
Had trouble believing their power was finished.

When what to our wondering eyes should appear
But Obama, who realized the message was clear

The tax cuts are staying,(for two years, at least)
and a republican congress will soon starve the beast.

We hear the democrats lamenting as they slink out of sight
The voters are nitwits! It's wrong to be Right!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well, I finished my shopping, composed the above on a whim.

Merry Christmas, all! Ha, Ha, Who, too!

NJNB Dearie - Taking someone elses original idea, changing a couple words around and then claiming it as your own without giving credit to the author is still plagiarism... And if I'm not mistaken is a violation of the COH on the vine...

However, coming from the spinball grand wizard and a serial liar - we wouldn't expect anything less coming from you! ;0)

As for unhinged? lol This coming from someone who went from daily I HATE EVERYTHING OBAMA rants before the election to spreading out & out proven lies to further promote your twisted propaganda?

'Twas the night before Christmas, 2009

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the House

Not a Democrat was stirring, not even Nancy Pelosi, the louse.

The health care bill was hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that Senate Democrats soon would be there.

The American people were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of defeating Obamacare danced in their heads.

So, we all wrote new words to Clement Moore's poem. Iam pretty sure everybody who read any version was aware of that. And, it wasn't a couple of words, beyond the first sentence. It was ALL of them.

The score is now good guys three, since DADT repeal passed in the Senate. Of course, there are games being played with it- why on earth it should take a year to implement is beyond me. Still, a win is a win.

OMGoodness - President Obama reading to a classroom of second graders a Christmas story. So so cute. They look so excited to have him there. This is such an important part of being a leader. Reaching out to children. Especially at Christmas time. It's a memory they will cherish.

Community Organizer. It shows. And it's one of the President's and First Lady's biggest strengths. Never forgetting the children, especially during the exciting hustle & bustle of the Holiday Season as these children eagerly await Christmas morning.

I agree with you, Pat. I heard a cute anecdote about it-

Obama asked what the children left for Santa, and all but one said cookies. That little boy said oatmeal. When the children laughed, Obama said that he liked oatmeal, too.

At which, one child responded 'how boring'. Why do I think that child's mother is only now picking herself up from the floor.

Anyway, it was a nice, heartwarming story. Someday, that child will have trouble believing he said it.

I only hope this will shut up the posters who rag on Bush for being at a school reading a story to children when the planes crashed into the World Trade buildings. Having the president visit, and read to you, has to be the thrill of any child's life.

Am a regular reader on this site. Get so frustrated by some of the lame comments, rudeness, etc. But had something happen in our family yesterday that makes me thankful again we have a chance to read & react to others. Our daughter in law became a US citizen yesterday afternoon. We couldn't get down for the ceremony. She told us last night on the phone that she wasn't feeling a lot of emotion until they gave the greeting from the president & other dignitaries. Suddenly it hit her what she was about to do & she started to cry. Spent all her growing up years in a communist country so the realization that she was really & truly free to travel & speak as she wanted hit home. Heck, guess our son even teared up & that's saying something! Son told her he was so happy they were all one nationality now.

So when we moan & groan about others & their comments, think maybe we need to pause a second to be glad we can comment openly in the first place.

(And just for the record, they currently live in Boehner's district. You can bet I'll be giving her an education on voting!)

Wanted to post on this earlier today but didn't really fit elsewhere.

Heartfelt Congratulations to your son and daughter in law. I have been where they are now and I have walked in their shoes before. Few things are more satisfying than to see the pride and sense of real accomplishment that comes when one takes the Oath of Allegiance to the United States and becomes an American in name as well as in their heart. I have no doubt she'll do fine and she'll instill in her own children the pride and love for America that she has. What's most refreshing is to know that she did it the right way instead of slinking through undetected like a thief in the night. I love it!!
