Obama agenda: Who gets the credit?

The conservative New York Post bills the tax deal passage as a “major victory for Republicans.”

The New York Daily News counters: “Democratic purists can complain all the way to 2012, but President Obama did what he must to save the economy - and himself - from falling into the abyss. The $858 billion tax compromise he cut with resurgent congressional Republicans is the political equivalent of a divorce settlement: a deal that leaves both sides squealing. Obama had the most to lose, so this two-year back-room package is a bigger victory for him than the Republicans who vow to make him miserable when the 112th Congress convenes Jan. 5.”

“About 13.4 million taxpayers may be getting unexpected tax bills because they were awarded too much money under President Obama’s Making Work Pay tax credit, a government audit said yesterday,” the AP reports.

Jimmy Carter says the country is ready for a gay president and thinks it will happen soon.

Well, I hope Carter is right, ( it would be a first for him), but, I have my serious doubts.

There are quite a few homophobic liberals- more than I had imagined before becoming a regular on this site- and it goes without saying that there are more than a few homophobic republicans.

I, myself, agree with Mitch Daniels- I abhor the culture wars, and wish they would be relegated to the dustbin. Why is anyone's sec life anybody's business but their own?

No Jo - Here, here on the culture-wars thing! What someone does with their junk is their business! Although on the same subject, for a conservative to say there are "quite a few homophobic liberals" may be a stretch ! I've been called a "Commi-Lib" by Rush himself, and if I ever met someone who considered themself a "homophobic liberal," I believe I'd have to set them straight (no pun intended!)

Only once before in my lifetime has there ever been a Congress he11 bent on making life miserable for a President at the expense of the people. That was the Republicans as they went after Bill Clinton.

Once again we see the results of greed and avarice working to further enrich the already wealthy by redistributing the wealth upwards and the blatant, in your face attempt to make a presidency a failure by thwarting every good thing the President wants to do for those who do not have the wealth to purchase a Senator, Congressman or Judge.

Avarice, thy name is Republican/TP Inc.

So, wanting to keep the money you earn is greed and avarice, while wanting to take someone's money for yourself is noble?

You should read Animal Farm.

Or 1984.

You might learn something.

Once again, NJ makes an ASSumption and is proven the fool that she is. I have read both and it is why I fight against the Republican/TP Inc. party. Through the Republican/TP Inc. policies, they would have us under thought control and deny history as in 1984 (think anti-gay legislation and denying that the Bush/Republican/TP Inc. policies caused the latest recession). Through their policies, they would have us ruled by a plutocracy as in Animal Farm.

NJ, in your case, knowing how to read and reading comprehension are mutually exclusive. You know how to read but you have no clue what it means.

No Jo

The top 1% owns 90% of the wealth while the bottom 90% owns LESS than 10% of it. If you own 90% of the wealth, then you should be reponsible for 90% of the taxes. But I believe that the top 1% only pays roughly 40% of total taxes.

How is that fair?

Morning Juve - Funny bit of irony in your question: The US has already HAD a gay president (and before the civil war!), and that's from whence we get the term "1st Lady"!

James Buchannan (only prez to hail from my home state of PA) was gay. Frankly, I'm AMAZED that Carter didn't know that! - like all Democrat (intelligent!) presidents, he's quite a history buff.

JB had a woman friend (sorry, her name escapes me) that would accompany him to state dinners and the like, but since they couldn't call her "Mrs. B.", the press came up with the term 1st Lady.

Jombo , nowadays there are no lady friends. Say , suppose its Frank. So I guess his "first lady "would his

lover. Thanks for the Info. Some things are kept well hidden. We need Wikki leaks around here.

No assignment of "credit" is due anyone for this travesty of legislation. While decrying the deficit/debt, we extended massive welfare for the wealthy in return for "alms" for the rest. Obama was not willing to hold out at a cost of a nosedive for the economy, pain for working folks, deniaal of unemployment benefits for the very worst off. Republicans offered a terrible cost - give us our unfunded largess for the wealthiest or we'll accept destruction of the US Economy and Obama will be blamed in either case. The President accepted what was the necessary cost of a life-raft for 98% and the old saying is that "necessity is a "mother"
