The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that incumbent Rep. Dan Maffei (D) conceded to Ann Marie Buerkle (R) in their still-undecided House race in Upstate New York.
Ann Marie Buerkle will be Syracuse's next representative in Congress, its first woman in the U.S. House.
U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei, the Democrat, called Buerkle today to concede, ending three weeks of ballot inspections, recounting and court wrangling.

And the beat goes on while the dems b!tch and moan that nobody voted for them because nobody knew what they were doing. (Too dumb). On the contrary, people did know and voted accordingly.
Still wondering whether Democrats are going to hold anyone accountable for these historic losses.
Congress changes hands with the changing of hands in the executive branch. Been doing so for a long time.
As far as Historic, though- yes. This time the numbers may be of historic proportions, but then again, there are two wars going on and a horrible economy that has been suffering for several years, too.
Let's hide and watch and see what happens in 2012.
Oh, bother..... I just saw a story on how well businesses are doing.....shoot. Who can we blame THAT on???
Well since they will keep Harry as senate majority leader and they re-elected Pelosi as house minority leader, I guess they will do what they always do: Blame Bush and talk about some car in a ditch again.
Yeah, when do they stop blaming Bush? 2012? 2016? 2084?
Kirby in Idaho, we listened to republican whinning for the last two years, now it's time for the rhetoric to be put to the test and I can't wait to see the repubs fall flat on their face.
And I'll bet you are one of those people that whined about repubs wanting Obama to fail. I think you are probably just another hypocrite. What the dems did in the last 2+ years has cost them and will continue to do so.
Guess Kirby missed the exit polls--the ones where voters said it was the economy, had nothing to do with President Obama or his policies, and indicated they want both parties to work together, which is something republicans continue to ignore. Hear the latest poll--48% of Americans do not know the GOP won the House! Yes, that's right--48% don't even know republicans won; that's a sad commentary on American voters.
Really, Jody?
Nothing to do with President Obama? Nothing to do with the competence or performance of the Democratic Party? Nothing to do with their handling of the economy?
To date, Democrats have lost 63 seats in the House...and 6 seats in the Senate, including President Obama's Illinois U.S. Senate seat.
Do you really believe that voters were unable to connect President Obama and Congressional Democrats to their policies?
Sounds like your 48% are the "low information" folks.
The rest of us voted Democrats out of office by the handful.
Jody, Iowa
I guess that you never heard the old saw that goes "Statistics don't lie but Statisticians Do!" You can make any pol look any way you like it with the correct spin. When I was in Engineering school, it was jokingly referred to as the "Graphite Constant". Its defined as "what you want" divided by "what you got"; multiply it by what you got and you get what you want every time (unless you can't multiply).
Next, I voted for Democrats in 2006 and 2008 and I voted for President Obama in 2008 because I believed his message. Silly Me; I'm 60 years old and a grandfather of 3, I'm old enough to know when someone is "Taking a leak on my shoes and trying to tell me that its only raining."
I wanted a slight turn to the left (2 or 3 points to Port) from the Bush / Chaney years. What I think the country got was a turn "Hard to Port, Port engine Back Full, Starboard engine, Ahead Full). That is EXACTLY what I think President Obama promised NOT to do when I voted for him and I felt betrayed by his and the Democratic Party's actions. For that reason, I voted to reverse the mistakes I made in 2006 and 2008 in letting the Democrats have Both Houses of Congress and the Presidency.
With the Democratic Party having a veto proof / filibuster proof majority in the house and senate as well as holding the presidency, they had a blank check to pursue any agenda that they so chose to champion. There were no checks and balances and Democrats had an agenda driven monopoly. They could do as they damned well pleased and no one could stop them just like the Republicans did from 2000 through 2006. That isn't healthy for anyone.
I voted to take away their Blank Check and to make them Negotiate rather than DICTATE as Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Reid, President Obama, and Company have chosen to do over the past 2 years.
Might I remind you that Ms. Pelosi and her predecessor Mr. Gephardt were just as much obstructionist, while they were Minority Leaders in the House, as what you have seen in the past 18 months from the Republicans. They were the original leaders of the "Party of No," Act I. Why do you think that the "Nuclear Option" came about. Ms Pelosi and Mr. Gephardt blocked things until everyone was fed up and created the "Simple Majority Reconciliation" rule that was used to stop filibusters. BTW, the Republicans did not have a "Filibuster Proof Majority" at that time so there were evidently enough Democrats pissed off by what went on to go along with creating the "Nuclear Option."
So, as to pointing fingers and calling someone obstructionist, all I can say to you and your ultra liberals is : "Yes, Pot, you too are Black!"
Bravo, Chris!
Please, post more often. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Thank Odin somebody finally pointed out the flagrant hypocrisy.
That said...who's ready to torch Congress and pillage DC? I've got a torch and a pitchfork~
way to go chris, somebody needs to put these far left libs in there place,we needed a little left but they just kept on going all the while crieing that the replicans say no, thank god somebody is saying no to there policies, and as much as I despise pelosi and Reid I know that in 2012 it will help get obama out before he spends our country in more debt.If he does lose then all the libs will cry raceism raceism, its the only excuse they will have.
The sun came up this morning, people went to work, children went to school--life continues the same as it was before the election. It doesn't matter if it is 62, 63, or 65 GOPers in the House. We still have republican obstructionism, republicans still demand tax breaks for 2% of the population adding $70 billion to the debt annually yet declare they want to reduce the deficit and the debt. Their ideas, get rid of anything and everything that helps create jobs, helps the middle class, cut social security, medicare, medicaid, education, roads, bridges because it is better to give to the rich than to build a strong America by aiding the middle class which drives the economy.
If by "being against anything that helps create jobs" you mean being opposed to driving up spending to creates useless government bureaucracy, or adding to the mythical "jobs saved" number, then yes, I agree. The conservatives are opposed to that.
Those mad conservatives seem to be focused on creating private sector jobs. Cheeky!
yep I heard about that poll , and I also heard that percentages quoted online in message boards are usually made up on the spot, I do know that of the folks that Ive talked to whom state they voted for Reps, when asked why , they said to STOP the dem agenda , and get people working again. Cant argue with them either since , I voted to keep the rep house member and a rep state legislature, but I couldnt bring myself to vote for the rep that ran for Gov so I wrote in a candidate. maybe that 48% are the 48% of liberals that want to continue down the road to socialistic entitlement syndrome , . its all good though , people will always fin=d a way to not have to do what socialists want , me , i found an out for the HC crap and im working it , lol they aint gonna like that.
The Democrats, I came to understand could not form something like the Tea Party. And I was
wondering about this for a long time. Then, it dawned on me that they can never form one. Why? Because
they are Libs and Progressives. They can only propose more taxes and more radical reforms which the
American people reject. And has anyone noticed? That where you use to have philosophies similar to the
Dems and socialists, there are always concentration camps or detention camps. eg. Russia, Cuba, China,
and the ex- Soviet empire. Now, that they have changed into Progressives , they threaten to close down
talk shows, radio shows and other such forums that do not agree with their agenda. Recent example is
that of Rockefeller, and the Dems are against rich people. That Rockefeller must be a poor sob to be a
member of the Democratic Party! Just a thought from the everyday conversation.
You know every time there is an international incident such as Iran and Korea, I usually hear on the radio or
the tv news that Oblaba will be taking STRONG action to resolve the situation. Or Oblaba will be pissed off
with the foreign leaders. Whenever I hear this , I laugh like the comic strip dog or like Courage the dog.
Hee, hee , hee, hee, hee !
Ever wonder and I also wonder about those polls where it says," 70 "% and '20' % and the third line says
"10" Don't know or not sure? Well, all those "not sure" and "Don't know" are those people who turn up as
rioters and protesters on the streets ind demonstrations.
Chris is full of hot air. Clearly he has skin in the game. Who do you work for? What republican funded social marketing firm do you work for? Trying to keep your job right? Well, I would suggest you don't stay there past 2012. Because if the republicans will continue the grid lock, thenthe people will vote againsth them. If you think 63 seats was a referendum against Obama, then tea party has gone to hell for putting Palin as the face of the party. She can not get her own candidate in her own state elected. That is a referendum againt her true influence; which is none. Those seats were taken because of corporate republican funded social media marketing wisper campaign. Hell, the illuminating Barbara Bush even said Palin should stay in Alask. Those republican seats were stolen like Bristol Palin bamboosled her way into the finals of Dancing with the stars. Really, who actually voting Bristol? Do you know anyone? It was probably robocalls flooding the system with votes for Bristol. One can only cheat so long before the tide turns. As long as jobs keep going overseas, and the Republicans keep sending those jobs over seas by protecting the very corproations that are investing in China and India but benifiting from tax breaks and US corporate wellfare, people like me, will not ever get have to opportunity get rich. Most of my buddies voted republican for the opportunity to get rich. But we were all suckered by the rhetoric of that illusive access opportunity when the funding was cheap. But the financial industry used us to get rich. Insider trading, back dating instruments, and bailouts have killed the average guys chance at the dream. The Day traders of yesterday are selling their homes now, and regreting following republican down that yellow brick road that lead to bankruptcy. With all this talk of Red and Blue, I have had it up to HERE! I am centrist and I will vote for the people that represent the RED WHITE & BLUE, AMERICA! I am not supporting any politician that does not have American's interests. At this point, if we leave it up to the republican party, my children will be speaking manderan chineese, and I will be working until I am 85, with no 401(K), no retirement, and no social security. The republicans represent the financial industry who have stolen enough of my 401(K) and retirement investments for me to have learned. I am not falling for anymore of their rhetoric that doesn't make since. There is no way you can save social security by taken it private. If anything, taking social security private lets the vultures and crooks steel it, by useing sophistocted convaluted fraudulent fininacial instruments to swindle us all out of our social security. The thought of not having some type of medical coverage in my elder years is horrifying. If I had to pay for the doctors visits that my mother has, I would have to sell my house. Republicans are the biggest threat to medicare and social security.
So Chris keep screaming and yelling all your nonsense wasting hot air. The reality is that the elderly is not going to willingly give up their medicare insurance and social security, nor will they give up services like trash pick up. Young people need jobs. Republicans are the biggest threat to affordable college tuition. All this social media marketing, persausion, coersion, fear mongering that you and the public affairs firms paid to pesuade over the internet, will only last so long. The masses were not paying attention in the midterm elections; so 63 seats was because the masses were sleeping. However, in the general election everyone pays attention and you better beleive as it get worse, and Republicans do nothing for the average American, but try to push legislation that support rich few, we will reign down a landslide against any Republican running for President, Congress, Governor or state legislature. Palin, Boehnor, Donald Trump or any other crook who steps up to shank the American people will go down in history as the face of the party that failed miserably; accomplished nothing and the people turned against them. Like Marie Antonette, the Republitards don't reprent the people of their nation. Like a paretn, we put them there and we will take them out....
That goes for the tea party and any other group that steps forward and trys to steal the American dream!
