Palin says she will 'clean up' journalism

Sarah Palin is vowing -- in a FOX interview that will air later today -- to "clean up" journalism, and says she will not speak to CBS's Katie Couric again, calling her "biased" and won't "waste my time."

Couric conducted the interview in 2008 in which Palin tried to defend her foreign policy credentials. Of Russian President Vladimir Putin, she said, "It's very important, when you consider even national security issues with Russia, as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border."

Palin said of journalism:

"I want to help clean up the state that is so sorry today of journalism. And I have a communications degree. I studied journalism, who, what, where, when, and why of reporting. I will speak to reporters who still understand that cornerstone of our democracy, that expectation that the public has for truth to be reported. And then we get to decide our own opinion based on the facts reported to us."

Palin got a journalism degree from the University of Idaho in 1987, after which she briefly was a sportscaster in Alaska:

Why should Palin waste good air and speak to someone with no audience? Couric is less revelent than Obama these days.

Katie Couric cleaned this idiot's clock, that's why she won't go back, it would be a waste of Couric's time. Couric is a million times more intelligent than this bimbo. You have to give it to Palin, she knows she's an idiot, she completely ignores it, and marches on down the idiot highway.

Sarah's so afraid that Katie or ANYONE not on Fox will ask her another question that she can't answer and show the world just how unqualified she is to be in any elected office. Katie won't tell Sarah the questions in advance so Sarah won't play ball. Fox Republican News will of course only ask her questions she can easily answer. Fox is becoming more and more irrelevant as it's cover is being blown and the truth is starting to come out... the truth that Fox is nothing more than the right wing's point of view and nothing else. It should always be referred to as "Fox Republican News". It's NEVER been fair and balanced!

In my opinion, Palin's supporters see what they want to see.  They want a smart, independent, Christian woman in politics (as would many people).  Sadly, IMO, she is only a caricature of this.

The other sad thing is that this is a setback for women.

I will speak to reporters who still understand that cornerstone of our democracy, that expectation that the public has for truth to be reported. And then we get to decide our own opinion based on the facts reported to us."

Or in other words, she plans on speaking only to people who understand HER version of the "fair and balanced" truth and is limiting herself to Faux news. You go girl, who needs to answer those tough questions like which publications you read and what foreign policy experience you have. Its only the office of president, after all, how are those important???

In an odd way, I would kinda like to see her as president. I figure the inertia of American society could carry it through without too much harm being done in those 2 years or so she would stick it out before quitting. But the HILARITY that would come from it, when reality slaps her in the face and she actually has to do something and work within the system that she says needs to be torn down and limited, would be PRICELESS! The State of the Union speech would be worth the price of admission in itself. You betcha! This is "Idiocracy" becoming a reality.

I turned on Hardball a few minutes ago only to discover Chris M, Pat Buchanan and David Corn discussing Palin. It is now turned off. Pat Buchanan is drooling and has been since 2008. I came to FR and more Palin!! Enough already. She sucks the oxygen out of a room, says nothing of importance or for that matter intelligible. I feel sorry for the legitimate, qualified republicans considering 2012--they're stuck in Palin limbo because if they say what they really think, she'll turn on them and if they don't speak the truth, the GOP is in much more trouble than they will admit.

If Sarah Palin is afraid to talk to some in the press for what ever reason, just think how she will do negotiating with other world leaders or determining military actions with our generals during a real crisis. The thought does not give me a sense of security! Actually, I'm a little nauseous now that I think about it.

She does not even understand global politics, how is she going to lead anyone ?  This woman is queen of the airheads.   She wants to clean up journalism, but she does not read a newspaper ?  She thought Africa was a country ?   It is sad that anyone even could consider her as a candidate for public office in AMerica.   We have reached new lows !

How does she intend to "clean up journalism"? More importantly, how can you do this when you have a contract to appear as a talking head for the media operation of the Republican Party and your own lies (i.e. - "Obama Death Panels") go unchallenged?

You want to start cleaning up journalism? Then, physician, heal thyself.

Otherwise, please keep in mind with your obvious political aspirations, that we have this "First Amendment" thingy that guarantees Freedom of the Press...yes, Christine O'Donnell, that IS in the First Amendment.

So she plans to take a whack at Freedom of Press? Make sure the only version of the news is the version that she agrees with, eh? All this after injecting her religion into governance and public education.

So there's 2 constitutional rights down. Who's next? What else we got in that silly first amendment? Speech? Assembly? Petition? You betcha!!

It's unbelievable this woman can say the things she does, while her acolytes still cheer her on and wave the constitution for her, without realizing that she'll burn it to the core.

Isn't it funny how the teabaggers hold our constitution in such a way as Gods law but want to rewrite it to suit their agenda? They bring new meaning to the phrase 'Hypocrite'.

Couric's interview was very "soft ball". Palin showed what a moron she really is by showing that she lack any substance, any intelligence, and any moral convictions. She's an opportunist, an embarasment for this nation, and a real threat to our nation and our security. God save us from this moron.

I think the main point is that why should Katie Couric waste her time on Sarah Palin? I know I don't need any more of her.

Whoa! That quote from the interview with Katie Couric was another "Palinism". Poor Sarah has a rough time putting coherent sentences together. I guess you would have to blame her poor education, but it is pretty funny the stuff she says. Let the idiot speak.

Palintrolls, why is your queen so afraid of Katie Couric? Typical Palintroll behavior. Character assasination. You'all should be asking yourself why Queen Sarah can't answer "what do you read?" instead of bashing Katie Couric. But hey, keep drinking the moose piss cause Queen Sarah will lead you to the promise land

Does anyone realize that her quote about "I studied journalism, who, what, where, when, and why of reporting", she missed the "How"? I feel like that's a pretty important point in journalism.

Just remember that the voters of this Republic elected and re-elected George Bush. You can laugh all you want to at Palins misadventures with both the truth and the English language, but this scary lady has found ways to connect with the American people without going through the filter of conventional media. No way I am going to take her for granted and I would advise my fellow Dems not to either.

Pobster, you are so right. She is so scary and so is the fact that the masses have not seen the elephant with no clothers yet. Our education statistics are so low it is no wonder that such an air head could get so far. What about North Korea or china or the economic crisis in Europe or doesn't she know where they are? Why is she disparaging John Kennedy? What good is that? Oh well, it is difficult to tell a fool until they open their mouth. She has proven a fact.

I read Time, Fortune, Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes, New York, Esquire, GQ and dozens of other mags and papers including the SF Chronicle and Sacramento Bee. See how easy that was. I hope my president is smart enough to be able to answer a simple question and not QUIT on their constituents when elected to office. I hope she runs just for the entertainment value. Hey, moderate republicans, how's that right-wing Tea Party lovin' Palin extreme takeover working for you? It's going to work just fine for us Dems come 2012 and beyond. Hey, since I can answer Katie's question maybe I'm qualified to run for president??? What an f'in joke!
