Looks like another fun filled week ahead! lol

Who else is as excited as I am to have Grama Grizzly clogging up the air waves and making my ears bleed?

I'm still waiting for someone to figure out how to stuff 'I Dream of Jeannie' back into her bottle once and for ALL!

Speaking of bottle... bartender...

As always MANY thanks to Mark Domenico & Ali for allowing up to come here and duke it out week after week!

By the way... do you have a new addition to the team? Someone by the name of Will? Inquiring minds would like to know! ;0)

Okay gang... see you over at the Dew Drop Inn! Got a new popcorn recipe I tried out... Chili flavored! lol

Tomorrow it's off to find the perfect turkey...

Just a thought....

That was AWESOME! I do so love Brian Williams and his wicked sense of humor!

Fiesty, your ears are bleeding because your husband has been shouting in them for the last 2 years to get off of the computer and fix dinner. It wouldn't hurt to take a break and swab them either. On second thought, you don't have to get up. Just move your bed, fridge, microwave and a first aid kit beside your computer. Oh and a few wet wipes and a trash can wouldn't be a bad idea either. I hear they sell little porta pottys with the blue stuff too. Sit one of those puppies on a milk crate, mount up and keep typing. You will be multi-tasking.

First Read Headlines of the Week

Sarah Palin Sees the “Light”

After 5 minutes of “Internal Deliberation” Sarah Palin has decided to give back Fox all their millions and refudiate her participation in the political process and go join a convent and live out her days as a celibate nun. Longest five minutes of the women’s life. Just not used to all that introspection doncha know.

I reckon that one didn’t happen.

President Obama Contemplates Doing a Nixon

Today the President contemplated resigning before first of the year in order to make NoJo insanely happy. Or insanely validated. Or to validate her insanity. Said the President when questioned “At least I would know that I’ve made one person happy for about five minutes until she decides she doesn’t like the cut of the suit that I wore to the ceremony”

That one ain’t going to happen either.

NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT STUFF

Frank "Grimey" Grimes, Springfield, USA

I'd like to take this opportunity to announce that I will be throwing my hat in the ring for RNC chair. ;-)

Given how well Steele performed...I don't see how I could do worse. Yeah, ok, we won a lot of seats on his watch...but I think we coulda won more. It will be interesting to see in which direction the election goes. You'll probably get candidates from the "Tea Party" wing...the establishment wing...and the moderate wing.

Yes Friends and Neighbors you have heard it here first. First Reads very own “Grimey” has decided to make his presence known in the wider world of National Politics. I think he deserves the support of all us loyal First Read participants and readers as probably the only remaining member of the Republican Party that has at least a lick of sense left. At least the part that don’t have Lipton fetishes or Grizz tendencies.

In honor of the momentous occasion and because of the overwhelming response I would like to announce that along about the Week Ahead time today we are going to have the First Annual Grimey Fundraiser and Debutante Party down at the Dew Drop Inn.

Spoke to the Bartender and he washed up a couple of those big ‘ol gallon Pickle jars to set beside the door for your contributions. Sorry folks you can wear a mask if you want to remain anonymous but those jars are for Cash contributions only. No checks no credit cards and for gosh sakes no favors party or otherwise.

The Bull Rider Bouncer is coming in early to make sure that any Chamber of Commerce types or Club for Growth operatives don’t crash the party. In other words if you bear even the slightest resemblance to Karl Rove you ain’t getting in. We are going to keep old Grimey pristine and untempted by that ‘fuureen” money. For Grimey is by all indications an honorable man.

Moved some chairs and tables around and had them draw a circle on the floor and stock up on Berets and Homburgs and such like in case somebody else gets the urge for some hat throwing. I’m holding out hope that the DNC will give old Kaine the ax before the party gets going good so we can talk Red into throwing her chapeaux in for that one. That ought to make things right lively for the next two years. Me personally I’m going to throw the old Redneck Slouch hat in for a new post that’s just coming up. I want to be the new Censor for the TSA Full Body Scan folks. I think somebody has to screen out those pictures of Jessica Simpson and Eva Longoria before they go viral on the tube machine and I’m just the man for it.

Redid the Mechanical Bull over in the corner there. Kept the head so we can find out who’s best at grabbing the bull by the horns. Put a Hobby Horse body on it so some of the rest can demonstrate their prowess at jumping to conclusions. Talked old Drive-By the D.J. into loading up a good supply of Johnny Cash “Ring of Fire” and Charlie Daniels “Devil Went Down To Georgia” cause somebody is for sure going to jump up on a chair and sing a little bit of “I told you once you S.O.B. He’s the best that’s ever been”.

Got plenty of Margaritas all lined up for Grimey and his crowd. Got a bunch of those Libertitinis lined up for Red to help her with her chapeaux aim if the DNC obliges. Got a little bit of Whine and Cheese lined up for those of you who are fixing to get on here and chide me for being somewhat irreverent this morning. And finally a whole bunch of that White Freedom Lightnin’ for the Ridge runners.

You’ll come on down and throw a quarter in the Juke Box and let’s give old Grimey a rousing sendoff on his new endeavor. Like he said I don’t think he could do any worse than the crowd we’ve been plagued with so far.

As always my thanks and appreciation to our hosts for their time, giving me a little place to stand, a subject to comment on, a forum to put it in, and their indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little off subject. I purely do appreciate it. Hope you’ll have a fine weekend and good fun among folks that you know and love. To my fellow participants keep well, keep safe, and keep the faith. We’ll make it. See you’ll next week

IR-

Funny you should mention John R Cash. Last weekend, I was listening to Dish 6006, and on came 'Ballad of Ira Hayes" (....the whiskey drinkin' Indian, or the Marine that went to war...). Made me a little misty, I gotta say, thinking about the Indians and what happend to them. Old Johnny could do social commentary along with the best of 'em. Wonder what he'd think of cowards like Beck and Limbaugh if he was still around?

Think the old beat box at the Dew Drop has room for one more old, scratchy, worn 45?

Drive -by an oldy but still one of the best just like old John R. Speaks real well to the times. Your the Pro From Dover if you want it to happen just make it so. Ever wonder why we don't have music as commentary like we did back then. Wonder how Country Joe and the Fish would go over nowdays. I'll even bet that most folks don't even know the commentary behind Tennesee Ernie " Sixteen Tons" some folks ought to listen to it one time before they "Load sixteen tons and what do you get? Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go.....I owe my soul to the company store." "Pop-a-Top" again my friend and we'll spend some time listening to old John

I think every progressive should register Republican for the Republican primaries and vote for Sarah! Let's help her win the republican nomination and get her over the finish line.. Then we can all switch back to Independents or Democrats for the general election and make sure Obama wins 2012! So lets stop bashing Sarah and let's help win the Republican Nomination!

  • 2 votes
Reply#3 - Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:58 PM EST

Capt.Smash... Don't give people bad ideas. If you register republican, you are given a republican ballot and can't vote for any democrats in primaries. We certainly don't want that to happen now that some areas have rankings where the top 2, irrespective of party, go into the general election.

Democrats need to use their brain and vote for who is the best person. As we all know, that equals democrat. The tea-baggers are already practising their voting skills by voting like crazy for Palin on Dancing with the Stars. Their loser lives have been invigorated now that they have managed to get their candidate into the finals on a reality show. woo hoo!!! Actually, its pretty pathetic really but if thats what floats their boat let 'em carry on. Personally, I have a life to live and better things to care about.

Listen we do not need to vote in the Democratic Primary Obama will win with out a challenger. However, if every progressive changes there party affiliation to Republican we can help Sarah win the Republican Nomination. After the primaries are over you can switch it back to your original party affiliation. We can destroy the the rethugs from within.

What would happen to Sarah Palin if one day, the media doesn't bother with her any more and no one shows up to hear her? That day will come because sooner or later, folks will notice her sell by date expired. Wonder who ghost wrote her book this time. No matter, I still won't spend my money on it any more than I'll spend $35 for Bush's revisionist decision points.

Thanks to our fine First Read hosts for another fun week. Think I'll head on over to the Dew Drop. Have a great weekend.

Jody, one can only hope that the expiration date will be soon. But I doubt it, the media also makes money on her so I believe she will be around for a while, like a scourge. I take consolation that the more exposure the more those on the fence will get sick of her.

I second my friends here in thanking our hosts. I'm headed to the Dew Drop for some of that wonderful popcorn Feisty is serving and a bourbon and soda. First round is on me, in thanks to my Dem friends for keeping the flag flying in the face of some wicked verbal assaults.

      no joe,

      Cheer up.

Yea, Obama got paddled pretty pathetically in the election and then got a big G-20 spanking. Look on the bright side. At least they didn't vote to make it the G-19 after someone did a $600 billion currency dump.

So he goes now to Lisbon. The good news is that it will only be half bad. NATO seems to have accepted his ineptitude and the fact that he lost all chance when he announced the pull out date. Seems they are going to do the liberal "transition" bit (transition to Taliban won) and talk about turning security over to the Afghans in 2014. Hopefully, the Afghans can be trained to operate a roll of toilet paper by then. And if the Afghans can't provide security, Iran is willing to take over security. Actually not much of a transition for them since they have been there for the 4-5 years anyway. Russia seems to think the Iranians are good guys, so biggie, right.

Another bright spot is Obama's TSA. The latest is that pilots probably won't have to go get groped. Seems someone finally figured out that pilots probably aren't inclined to sneak a box cutter on to the airplane to slit their own throat. Maybe it occurred to them that if a pilot was a terrorist, the pilot would understand that he would probably be better able to fly the plane into a building if he wasn't bleeding out.

Another thing. Obama'sTSA's "handling" ofairline security. Sure it may seem silly for adults to sexually molest little 12 year old girls and feel up Grandmas in their wheel chairs while 4 guys from Yemen, Saudia Arabia, Syria and walk on with one way tickets and no luggage, but the good thing is that America is waking up to this liberal, politically correct insanity. Maybe it will give rise to a new party, or at least a new branch to the Tea Party. The Tea Party could have their old guys with their "Don't Tread On Me" flags and the new guys could have their "Don't Touch My Junk" flags. Actually alot of the old Tea Partiers could recruit new new members - "Don't Touch My Tea Bag" flags. (Sorry about that, but you know Feisty is always lurking about in her moo-moo with a hand in the pop corn waiting for one and I thought you might rather hear from me and get an apology than hear from her and get the obligatory lol.)

This country has been tried before by other Progressives and we survived (thankfully this one will probably only have one term, not four). There's a good chance we can survive this one.

Anyway, thanks to you and the equally reviled/loathed JAS for continuing to intellectually water-board the libbies here at FR. I think maybe America caught the progressive cancer before it spread to Stage California.

Have a good weekend no joe.

From the article: That was the second worst performance in 18 years.”

From the article: For people like Mr. Smith, lack of funding seems to be the biggest problem.”

From the article: "I've never seen seed capital so low," says Mr. Sohl. "This is alarming."

Nowhere in the article does it say what Doctor No said: “A new report shows that there has been the least start up business and the concurrent job creation of any recession- ever.”

Once again the famous No Joe stretches the truth – surprise, surprise !! And who was it that blocked a bill that would provide capital for small businesses??

      Selective quotes. Pretty cute.

Yes, this year was the second worse in 18 years- last year was THE worst. Your point? It is STILL Obama's dubious recovery, Dennis.

Every other recovery sees a growth of start up businesses- but not this one. In the recession of the 1980's, two teachers near my home invested some money in a truck and started a two mN moving company- that company now employes hundreds in three states. Home Depot was launched in response to a recession. None of that kind of activity is happening now.

Is money tight? It sure is. The private equity companies that are the typical risk takers in backing start ups are no longer lending- they have no idea what capital gains taxes will look like next year.

So, you go on ahead and read with Obama bias- it has no impact on the reality. His policies are having a dirament effect on the economy. Those are the facts, whether you recognize them or not.

Oh, and Dennis? The sky is not plaid, and, no matter what he tells you, you cannot fly, so do not jump off the roof.

      Doctor No,

Last year (which ended in March 2009) was the direct result of the Bush administration.

Now you walk your earlier statement about the “worst ever” – Thanks !! But why did you say it to start with? Your only motive on this site is to say anything, true or false, that makes this President look bad. You knock me for selective quotes but at least I didn’t misrepresent what the article said as you did.

The fact is and has been that your hate for this man, this President is so great that you cannot even see that the Republicans in Congress are not doing anything to help rebuild the economy and create jobs.

      #7.11 - Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:31 AM EST

From the WSJ article: Some entrepreneurs say it's not all about financing, though. They express concern about taxes, health-care costs and the impact that wrangling in Washington over the federal budget deficit will have on them. "I can't determine what the cost of providing health care for employees would be," says Kevin Berman, 47, who is starting a local-produce company in Orion Township, Mich., called Harvest Michigan. Starting a company "is harder than it was at any time I can remember."

Difficulty getting financing is a major reason start ups aren't starting up. I thought the President said he was pressuring the banks to loosen up and finance these entrepreneurs. Clearly, the President's efforts have been ineffective. The Financial Reform bill has actually tightened lending and restricted expansion.

Mr. Berman, in this article, clearly states the uncertainty of health care costs, taxes and the deficit are hindering his efforts to take the risks entrepreneurs take to start up and expand businesses.

The health care bill, tax structure uncertainty and the current deficit situation are unarguably the responsibility of the current Administration and the Democratically controlled legislature.

The government's job is to create an environment in which businesses can thrive. The President's policies and those of your Congress have stalled the recovery that should have been in full swing a year ago.

If you're not self-conscious, you can really have fun with these TSA guys. I recently flew and got the pat-down. After some funny comments and inappropriate noises at the right times, I had 2 TSA screeners rolling on the floor and the guy giving me the pat-down was red as a beet. I can only imagine the ribbing he got afterward.

So, I see Obama's latest temper tantrum is being thrown over his proposed START treaty. Let us all forget about the flaws contained therein- Obama needs a win! He deserves it! He is the smartest guy on the planet, he worked on this for two years, and he wants it ratified! Now!

It will not be ratified, and he had better get used to hearing the word NO- with effect. He led his party off a cliff, although he never saw it coming. He actually, truly believes that he is the greatest thing ever to have happened to the world, let alone this country. Read here

Just one more article about the ego that swallowed a political party. Too bad the Japanese are no longer making cheesy horror flicks- Obama has certainly given the former makers great material.

They, who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

      Ben Franklin

noblojoe he is smarter than most americans. That may be the problem. The average american can barely understand the rules to dwts or believe "situation/snookie" would make good candidates. You can not blame Obama for looking on public with such disdain!! He spends way too much time responding to stupid baggers!! He is not muslim, un-american, marxist, or any of the other stupid stuff he has to field daily. You would be tired too if you dealt with this level of ignorance!!!

no joe he did little of work.It was hard working senators and congress on both sides of aisle. Also hard working russians coming together in compromise over nukes we dont need, because we stlll have the capacity to blow up the world many times over even with this treaty in existence. This isnt about winning or losing.this is about creating a safer world. If we dont ratify ,Russia will question are commitment and back away. All the questions of both parties were already questioned and answered. For a vote not to come would be a wasted oppotunity that Ameica will never get back. All the bipartisan effort on both sides of the aisle would be wasted.Tax payer money would be wasted.no Joe both parties and the AMERican people win with this treaty not President Obama. Have a good night

Let me see, let me see, when have I heard that same argument about a treaty before?

Now I remember! It was back in 1979- Jimmy Carter and the SALT II treaty! Another bad treaty, which gave away the store!

Is Obama actually TRYING to be Carter redux, or can he not help himself?

The reason Repubs are so war happy is that they are part of military-industrial complex.......Companies like haliburton rely on our "NOT" ratifying any treaty that might bring peace> NO profit in peace>>

Demos and the left-wing media always try to demonize competition they fear. Palin couldn't help but be better than Locobama. He's only better than that lady screaming at kids in the school cafeteria. She was probably a demo also. Our prisons are full of them. We MUST stop breeding demos on welfare.
