Alabama Rep. Jo Bonner, the top Republican on the House panel that weighed charges of ethics violations against Rep. Charlie Rangel of New York, had harsh words for the 20-term congressman in the committee's hearing today.
"Mr. Rangel can no longer blame anyone other than himself for the position he now finds himself in. Not this committee, not his staff or family, not the accountants or lawyers, not the press," he said. "Mr. Rangel should only look into the mirror if he wants to know who to blame."
"It is my unwavering view that the actions, decisions, and behavior of our colleague from New York can no longer reflect either honor or integrity," Bonner said.

If Charlie had a cold would his voice be heard?
Charlie is getting bopped for what he did, no other reason.
Charlie Rangel could get a new job............as the POSTER BOY for term limits !
I hate to tell Bonner but "honor and integrity" does not exist in the halls of Congress anymore, "honor and integrity" were replaced with "greed and corruption" long ago, Congress is an institution to be loathed not respected.
I'm a Democrat & Proud of it, however Rep. Rangel along with many other OldTimers on both sides of the isle have overstayed thier Welcome. New ideas about how to push america forward are whats needed in our Government.
Voter's in certain districts for some reason, feel the need to put these people back in DC, knowing fullwell, thats Absolute Power, Corrupts Absolutely. America will never have a representative of the People, For the people, unless this Gerrymandering districts continues every 10 years focusing on whoever is Holding the Offices that decide these decisions at That Time.
BTW 1st Read, could'nt these last 2 Threads been combined into one? Why the need to coerce poster's into a COC violation, by posting here ona thread from earlier?
I love the theater they are doing ...does'nt mean a dam thing ...he is elected these old relics have no power to do anything !!!!!
I agree, with a plate as full as the one Congress has you would think they would actually want to work on something, instead they seem to always be planning for the next Congressional break, Thanksgiving this time, our Congress is such a joke, it would be funny if people weren't suffering from their disregard for duty, but they are, I would be ashamed to even be linked to such a soulless institution.
Dear Congressman Rangel:
You have done good in your lifetime, but now you need to step aside. This is truly a sad way to end years of public service, with all due respect. This is not the way you should be remembered. Retire, it is time.
Not to discount anything Mr Rangel has done to get himself to this point, but Congress really does have a lot more pressing things on their plate wiithout giving the holier-than-thou blowhards time to strut on camera. So shut up, Mr Bonner, and get back to doing the people's business.
Indie Woman in Denver,
Is this not the people's business? When a "lawyer"congressmen who has served nearly 30 years and who has served as chairman overseeing tax laws breaks the tax laws, why is he merely given a slap on the wrist while average Americans face possible jail time or heavy fines for doing the same thing!
Congressmen should be held to a higher standard, and they should pay the price of their corruption. Yes Mr Rangel should be treated fairly.....by loosing his position, paying heavy fines to IRS, and whatever an average person's conviction would bring with his crimes. It is time we held these people accountable and I for one consider this to be "people's business". Mr. Bonner is not the guilty one here, it is congressmen Rangel who wastes our time and money by filling a seat he is undeserving of!
I think Congress should be abolished all together, maybe put a stage in and have live concerts their, the acoustics are pretty good, the people would be better served.
THWAK! is the sound the palm of my hand would make on the top of this guy's bald head! I am neither Democrat nor Republican! This is what we all get stuck with when you keep voting for the conspiratorial parties! They're ALL disgraceful and inept! Yes, let's kick 'em all out and have concerts in that hall! At least we'd get some satisfaction out of what belongs to the PEOPLE! Every time you vote for a conspirator you pull the hangman's noose tighter around your own neck, and the necks of your neighbors!
Boner is a total joke ! he should resign ..he belittles the office !
Nice try, but Rangel was convicted by a bipartisan panel.....you know.....an EQUAL amount of Democrats and Republicans.
the charged one is rangel not boner rangel had over 2 years to prove he was not guilty all he had to do was retire pay his tax and walk away but like all arrogant nixon clinton pelosie waters type,s they are above the law pelosie and waters are next with holder and nepolitano and john morton and phillis coven of ice going down for refuging to deport illegals ,pelosie never tryed to drain the swamp but rep issi will start jan 2 2011 so get back none belivers and watch if he don,t he will be out
Mr. Rangel has yet to show remorse. He continues to be arrogant. What would happen to the average person if they did not pay taxes on income for property for 17 years? We would not get off as easy as him. It appears as if some of his actions are illegal and if so, he should be held accountable because he is no better than anybody else who has broken the law.
He should be must be censured!
Throughout this process Mr. Rangel has remained arrogant and showed no remorse. Could we the average tax get away without paying income taxes on income property for seventeen years. I think not. If he has done anything illegal, which appears as if he may have then he should be held accountable.
The country is watching and the full house must censure Mr. Rangel.
Careful there Bonner...careful...
I hope Boner is the same when John Ensin gets their, his charges are much more serious. Of course since he's an Republican his charges will be dropped he belongs to the Club and K Street
Too bad that greed and money is flowing in Washington thanks to John Roberts
we not longer have a Congress of any standing, and now with the Republicans in charge of the House
nothing will get done, unless its for the Rich, big Business, big Oil or Wall Street or the Banks then it will all get done.
Here we go they didn't get to finish the job now they will
Make sure that their are only two classes the Very Rich and the Poor
So all you poor and Middle Class Republicans that voted for the Republicans you get what you voted for nothing No Health Care, No Tax cuts, Raise the Retirement age, let the good times roll.
so what i don,t think we need to be feeding people that don,t belong here like obamas aunt and 20 million illegals that demand we take care of them, i want whats mine not because of a stolen birth right you owe me nothing but what is mine i owe you nothing but what you have earned if you are here illegally leave or be deported we can not feed the world we have enuf crooks of are own
well personally Rangel should be serving time and a slap on the wrists does nothing, his pension should be taken away and put in the social security fund that they keep borrowing from. All his assets should be confiscated and sold. The money could be put to good use to help the millions on unemployment or who's unemployment has ran out to pay their utilities & food for their families. while we are at it the salieries of congress should be lowered to $60,000 yr & they should have to pay for their own medical like every one who works does
if you cut there pay to 60,000 a year what would you do with the 60,000 pensiona year after 5 years in congress,do away with it ,i would
by the way Lee 2380617 I am republican always have been always will be as I do not believe in political correctness, or working my @** off to give people like you a free hand
As usual...when Republicans weigh in being self righteous, it usually comes back on the person that's playing that role...Bonner needs mind his opinion because video is a titch...
I'll be willing to bet that there's more too come...They've just gotten control of the house and they (Republicans) usually turn into stink bombs. It's going to be very interesting too see how the establishment Republicans fare with the Tea Party elects...
The fur is going to fly...no doubt about that....Boehner et'al Where are the jobs?
I remember another Republican expressing his "angst" at President Clinton for lack of morals becoming a sitting US President. I believe his name was Henry Hyde, R- Ilinois. A few months later he was found to have two different families, in different states, at the same time. Wanna bet Mr. Bonner has a skeleton or two in his closet? wasn't the speaker, Newt Gingrich having an affair with his secretary, to whom he's now married to? of course he was. most of our inferior leaders are imperfect, It's kinda funny when they get all "holier than thou"on each other. Sadly, Its just a matter of time till they all get "15 minutes of infamy"...i.e., Strom Thurmond (took 55 years for the skeleton to get out of that closet) I always thought the Party system was responsible for finding and grooming a potential candidate; Boy is that a utopian thought. Where do these candidates come from? A special interest planet called "Egomoney"? In Florida, this year. the populace elected to GOVERNOR, a former CEO of a company that paid 9 figures in fines for defrauding medicare. On the witness stand, he pled the fifth 75 times! Kind of a bald Tony Robbins type, from planet 'Egomoney". It seems that "divide & conquer" is the political trend today, and like sheep led to slaughter, we blindly follow. I'm encouraged that some of us are vocal about the "Total Recall' (movie)treatment we are receiving at the vile hands of the airport TSA (papers please,do you have 5.2 onces of toothpaste or a pipe bomb in your carry -on?) we need a dose of the 60's revolution in our thought patterns these days. Remember how all that 60's shait really did change some things...yeah it changed bright eyed, idealistic youth into material guys and girls, it changed the Grand O'le Party into the mean spirited, war-like, party of the rich right. I guess it has always been this way, just read a bio of Alexander Hamilton, All of the same bi-partisan shenanigans happened then too, who could believe the VEEP (A.Burr) would kill the Treas Sec.(Hamilton) in a duel.. but then again, Hamilton was responsible of establishing the BANKING SYSTEM.
My sentiments exactly...in my humble opinion...the pot's can't call the kettle's back when both have smut under their bottoms...
You would think that by now the Republicans would learn how to keep their self-righteous opinions to themselves...it won't be too long before we hear of a scandal that will make Rangel's look like a walk in the park...Rangel's just became political for the moment...
I too remember the unraveling of the Bush Administration appointees...let's see...there were closet homosexuals, Internet predators (the very person that was appointed guardian of the hen house became the wolf)...there was of course Newt, Delay, oh my just too many to name...
I'm not condoning Rangel's actions by any means...I just want to see justice served on behalf of us taxpayers that can't get away with rip and I'm sure that there are a number of other lawmakers that should be deserving of the same treatment...
Rep. Jo (What a sissy name) Bonner is and always has been a racist thug. When Bonner launches a very public, very unnecessary attack on a black Democrat from Harlem, it's worth keeping in mind the effect it's likely to have on more than a few voters back home in the very racist deep south.
I wonder what kind of violations we can find in Bonner's background other than his white sheet.
