***UPDATE*** NBC News has now declared Lisa Murkowski the apparent winner in the Alaska Senate race.
After a two-week count of write-in ballots, the Alaska Senate race has been called for incumbent Republican Lisa Murkowski.
Murkowski, who defeated Tea Party challenger Joe Miller, will be the first write-in candidate to win election to the Senate since South Carolina's Strom Thurmond in 1954.
She opted to launch the write-in campaign after Miller defeated her in the state's Aug. 24 Republican primary.
From the AP:
Murkowski has a lead of about 10,000 votes, a total that includes 8,153 ballots in which Miller observers challenged over things like misspellings, extra words or legibility issues.
It was not immediately clear how Miller will proceed. He and his advisers have vowed to take legal action over what they contend is an unfair tally in Murkowski's favor, but Miller has maintained he'll stop fighting if the math doesn't work in his favor.
Officials say they have about 700 votes left to count.

Murkowski leads by 10,000 votes. The disputed ballots only total 8,153. Joey, I hate to break it to you, but even if you get the courts to throw out all the disputed ballots you still lose. Because 10,000 is more than 8,153. What is it with these Tea Partiers and basic math skills?
As soon as he and Sarah figure out how to work that cal-q-later thing, they will have a reply for you!

Murkowski is a waste of time in the Republican establishment. She's one who they call a LIBERAL Repub. She'll be no use to the Repubs. Watch and see. There is resentment in political circles at what she did for her own ambitions. She's a hand me down. Look and learn, Dems, don't start celebrating so soon.

Murkowski LOST and by her sour grapes has now stolen the election. Sure, it's "legal." But what a big, fat sore loser she is. Have any of you even listened to the things she has gone around saying the last couple days? She's now a democrat. Or a RHINO. Whatever. Her Daddy GAVE her that seat, and she didn't even work hard at getting re-elected until she LOST!!! What an old hag. I was no huge fan of Joe Miller, really, but did not want her. I almost wish the democrat would've won over her.
She ran a write-in campaign in accordance with the laws of Alaska. Get over it.

And we know there has been no other ranting and raving on this blog don't we. All the name calling on both sides the people voted for her and she won and that is the way the election process is supposed to work but I would like to know how if she was so good and so popular, did she lose the primary? Don't the voters chose their canditate thru the primary? Or was that stolen by the tea partiers?

He seemed like a pretty straight shooter to me.. Sorry...... Alaska didnt think Palin was so bad when she got them nice oil checks did they... She quit for the state's sake.. and she did the right thing in doing so... the publicity she got and lawsuits that she always ended up winning made her job too hard...
