Democrats settle leadership fight; create new position for Clyburn

NBC's Shawna Thomas reports that Democrats have settled their leadership fight by creating a new, to-be-determined position for current Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC), according to a high-level source.

Clyburn will get a not-yet-named position that will be the No. 3 position on the leadership ladder. Essentially, since Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to run for minority leader, everyone bumps down one spot. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) will be Minority Whip, Clyburn a step below that.

Clyburn's position will not be "conference chair." That position is held by and will continue to be held by Rep. John Larson (D-CT).

Creating a meaningless, "yet-to-be-named" position simply to demand that Clyburn should just shut up and sit down is degrading, insulting and morally inexcusable. The blood is in the water... and Nancy Pelosi has proven to be a carnivorous monster, and totally dispicable human being... and the jury is still out in using the term "human being".

This has always been the typical answer for power-hungry Democrats to solve all their problems.... demonize, destroy and totally remove any and all competition.... including their own.

You intentionally failed to mention that Crist, and Murkowski were both soundly and fairly beaten in their respective primaries when playing by the rules.... but, similar to most typical democrats.... when they can't win fairly and honestly... they demand to play by an entirely different set of rules.

Colin Powell and Mrs. McCain are both un-elected citizens who are clearly entitled to voice their own opinions....as are any other American citizen.

Tell everyone here on the newsvine WHO it is that is demanding that Mr. Powell and Mrs. McCain "shut their mouths" ???

1. Charlie Crist was not "soundly and fairly beaten" in the Florida primary. He withdrew from the primary and began his independant campaign before the primary took place.

2. Lisa Murkowski had every right to run as a write-in candidate after losing to Joe Miller in the Alaska primary. If you don't believe me you should probably check the laws of the state of Alaska. No rules were broken or changed to accomodate her run.

3. After Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 he was told by Rush Limbaugh to go be a Democrat. Pat Buchanan dismissed Powell's endorsement as simply being made because Obama was black. Dick Cheney, when asked for his opinion on the Limbaugh-Powell squabble said, "If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh, I think. I think my take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."

4. Meghan McCain (that would be Ms. McCain, John's daugher, not Mrs. McCain, his wife), after her appearance on ABC's This Week in which she was critical of Christine O'Donnell, was trashed by the right-wing blogosphere. Doug Powers, on Michelle Malkin's blog, led his review of the comments with the infamous Twitter photo "to remind myself to check my tire pressure later this afternoon." Dan Riehl, on his blog, called her "Meggie 'Big Mac' McCain" and said, "this self-indulgent set of mega-breasts doesn't belong anywhere near a TV studio commenting on anything." Jeff Poor, a writer for the Media Research Center's Business & Media Institute, re-tweeted a comment that he received. It read, "I swear, if Meghan McCain gets any dumber she'll be drooling on her boobs." Tell me, did Cindy McCain get a chill down her spine when her own daughter got blasted like this?

Were the actual words "Shut Your Mouth" used? No, but the message was nonetheless made clear.

The bottom line....

Crist (and America) knew he was going to lose.... so, he desparately tried to change the rules.

Murkowski (and America) knew she was going to lose.... so, she desparately tried to change the rules.

While the jury is still out on the Miller/Murkowski results... there was a clear winner for the Republican party during the primaries - Joe Miller. However, since it is Murkowski's obcession to hold on to power, by any means possible... whether it is abiding by the traditional rules of having one winning candidate per party during a primary.... or changing the rules into whatever will benefit only her and her, alone.

The reality is....All things being equal.... liberal progressives have proven they cannot compete on an even playing field.... and, the more "liberal" and the more "progressive" they are.... the more they are obcessed with changing the rules in their favor... period.

No one is denying the fact that Crist and Murkowski have a "legal right" to do they are doing. But, the honest question is whether or not desparately trying to find a loop hole or technicality to gain political power ultimately destroys ANY respect and admiration from constituents.

As most of us know.... politicians being concerned about whether or not they have the "respect" and "admiration" of their constituents is the truly furthest thing from their minds.... as is being proven with Charlie Crist and Lisa Murkowski.

It's truly a sad state in America when our politicians and the power of liberal progressives has been determined by "grey areas", "technicalities", and "loop holes" which, often times they have created..... and even more sad....they have absolutely NO conscience to even care what their constituents think.

The undeniable fact is.... both candidates... Crist and Murkowski began running for U.S. Senate in each of their respective primaries as the "winner-take-all" Republican nominee on an even playing field.

As the primary election day neared, they both realized that they don't have a chance in hell of winning. Instead of honestly admitting that their constituents DID NOT want them to be the chosen Republican nominee....and that Marco Rubio and Joe Miller honestly won the primary fair and square, they demanded that the playing field be changed.... yes, searching for alternative loopholes and technicalities.

This is why America is so digusted with politicians.... their addiction for POWER is much greater than that of a "crack" addict..... nothing is sacred with them..... not even their soul.

Speaker Pelosi is a despicable human being? Is that right? She was against the invasion of Iraq. Senator Mitch McConnell was for it. And then in 2006 he smelled defeat in the air for the Republicans in the midterms. So what did he do? He went to President Bush and told the president that he was very unpopular and it would show in the midterms with the Democrats winning many seats. President Bush asked Senator Mitch McConnell want he should do. McConnell's answer:

Pull some troops out of Iraq.

Talk about despicable. Using a war and our troops as political gain.

This btw came from President Bush's new book, which Rachel Maddow reported on last night.

Nancy Pelosi is a strong smart woman. And a Democrat. You should have listened to her when she spoke up against Iraq. We need women like her in our government.

Good morning Beverly. I sure love Sunday mornings, my favorite time of the week. Get up early, make a few cups of tea, sit back and read messages and posts here on First Read. I hope you're enjoying your weekend as well. We have had some beautiful weather here in Boston this weekend. Absolutely beautiful. Do you like Johnny Cash? Beverly, Sixteen Tons has got to be one of the best songs ever written. We used to sing it all the time when we were kids. It's a fabulous song. It's too bad we don't have those variety shows any longer when we could see Tennessee Ernie Ford and all those great performers. I lived for the Johnny Cash Show, The Dean Martin Show, Ed Sullivan and all of the others. I youtube them all the time now.

America produced some really unbelievable talent. Unbelievable song writers and singers. Same with the movies. And Broadway. As well as our authors and our comedians. These are the people who gave America her heart & soul. So many of those early comedians and actors were from the Lower East Side of New York.

I will recover from my depressed state as soon as the new congress is seated in 2011. Imagine their distress when they realize, as a MAJORITY that "Hell no!" doesn't work. Then, we Democrats can assume the cynical and sarcastic..."no answers; only more questions" attitude that they have shown for two years. Despite the fact that the GOP has sent scores of Democratic House incumbents home for good, the Tea Party movement that helped accomplish this incredible feat is somehow expected to disrupt...not enhance conservative principles.

It's the Democrats who must now create a new, imaginary, leadership position to help keep Rep. Clyburn happy...and to keep the architect of the midterm disaster, Nancy Pelosi, in the #1 spot.

Also keep in mind, a few years ago, Speaker Nancy Pelosi traveled to Syria and met with Bashar al-Assad. At the time, none other than Eric Cantor personally accused Pelosi of possibly violating the Logan Act, "which makes it a felony for any American 'without authority of the United States' to communicate with a foreign government to influence that government's behavior on any disputes with the United States."

Afterward, Netanyahu drops by Cantor's office to see if there is anyone sane in the US government anymore.

I doubt you will get it, but here is the clarification. The 2003 Freeze was for construction in the settlements, such as the West Bank. Israel announced construction of 1,345 new units in Jerusalem. The Muslims got upset and went to their poodle president in the US.

So Obama sides with the terrorist, does their bidding, telling Israel they not only cannot build in a settlement, but they cannot even build an apartment in their own nation's capital. Sheeez.

    There are many honourable politicians in America. Dishonourable politicians do not last long. Politics in America is very clean compared to the other countries in the world. In fact America is the leading democracy in the world, a beacon of hope to all. American people are passionate about politics. I don't think any other country takes it so seriously.

      I think this is a good thing for Rep. Clyburn. They probably knew he wouldn't get enough votes to be the minority leader and so they wanted to give him something so he wouldn't be embarrased by not winning. He is a good leader and a good man. I hated what Rush said about him the other day, by saying he would be "driving ms Nancy" How low can a man go like Rush. He's another one that should be taken off the radio. Actually I think Clyburn would have made a good Minority LEader. Oh well, that's Politics.

      Rush Limpballs will say anything to create havoc. What I think is ironic about him is that he is a hypocrite. I don't think he is as bigoted toward Black as he portends. When he was caught in the West Indies with drugs he also had a suitcase full of condoms as rumor has it. Whether the condoms were for men, women, or little boys no one knows. He plays lots of Black music whereas Sean Hannity the quixotic campaigner for the Republican/Tea party plays only country music to my knowledge.

      Bo Snerdley, Rush's call screener and interlocutor is African-American. Rush paid for Mr Snerdley's kids to go to college. Again it may be a rumor.

          I'm a 7 year Marine Corps Iraq War Veteran, 2009-2010 Student Government President, and citizen of the best country in the world. Point is everyone (Republicans/Demorcrats/Independents) needs to get their crap together and come together for the better of our country. We need not only look out for the rich, but also have the middle and low class rise as well. Last I checked, we are one nation so how about we begin to think like this throughout the whole damn country and become one. None (white, black, hispanic, asian, etc) should be denied health care or the best education. Racism has taken over our nation and for the worst. It is sad that we must have another 9-11 attack to come together. Come on people. Let our nation rise again and do what is best for all of our citizens and inhabitants no matter what race, religion, or sex.
