Clinton gets casual on White House decor, Kardashians

In a much-tweeted-about interview on Sunday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to an Australian comedy duo about potato chips, the upkeep of the White House since her family checked out, the Kardashians and the need for young people to check the temperature of food before they bite in.

Clinton told the syndicated radio show (which has more than two million listeners) that she likes what the Obamas and the Bushes have done with the White House over the past decade. And she played along when the hosts suggested that George W. Bush filled the presidential mansion with Xboxes and remote-controlled cars. “Very well done. Both counts,” Clinton responded.

In a moment of (quasi) seriousness, Clinton said that one of her goals in addressing global audiences is to bridge the divide between the image America wants to give to the world, and the one it does through exports like reality television.

“The Kardashians, exactly. If you look at American TV as much of the rest of the world does, you would think we all went around wrestling and wearing bikinis,” Clinton said. “I mean, that’s what you would think we spend our entire day doing right?”

And as for the issue of young people eating food when it’s still simply too hot to swallow? It’s a crucial, she said.

“Because if you just think about it, people go around with the tops of their mouths burnt,” Clinton said. “They can’t communicate well.”

Radio hosts: “You see a decline in peace.”

Clinton: “Decline in peace. They might stop eating. That adds to the increase in hunger – ”

Radio hosts: “We’ve already got enough hunger already.”

Clinton: “ – malnutrition in the world”

Radio hosts: “And it’s so ironic, because food is what stopped them eating.”

Clinton: “That’s right.” …

As for her own tastes – Clinton admitted to being an avid “eater of chips.”

      Statement Freom Keith Olbermann:

6:15 p.m. | Update In an aggressive statement questioning the legitimacy of his two-day suspension from MSNBC, Keith Olbermann addressed his viewers Monday night, saying that they were responsible for his scheduled return to the air on Tuesday, following revelations that he had contributed to the campaign funds of three Democrats in last week's election.

In an open letter to "Countdown" viewers, he blamed NBC for creating a donation policy that was "inconsistently applied," and said he did not know the rule existed. He also, referring to what he called a "ground-rattling" outpouring of support from viewers, said their efforts "should remind us of the power of individuals spontaneously acting together to correct injustices great or small."

He acknowledged that there should have been a conversation with NBC executives, saying that the donations merited public acknowledgment and perhaps an internal warning. Instead, he said, he was suspended even after one of his representatives was told he would not be, and he learned about the suspension through the media.

You should also know that I did not attempt to keep any of these political contributions secret; I knew they would be known to you and the rest of the public. I did not make them through a relative, friend, corporation, PAC, or any other intermediary, and I did not blame them on some kind of convenient 'mistake' by their recipients. When a website contacted NBC about one of the donations, I immediately volunteered that there were in fact three of them; and contrary to much of the subsequent reporting, I immediately volunteered to explain all this, on-air and off, in the fashion MSNBC desired.

"I also wish to apologize to you viewers for having precipitated such anxiety and unnecessary drama," he said.

      ____________

What is it about corporate America that is so damn cruel? What happened to just plain humanity? I'm shocked Keith was treated this way to be honest. He was open and up front, honest and not hiding behind anyone attemtping to - you know - lie - or covering up - like a certain morning host over a contribution.

NBC. Well, the whole country knows about this. As well they should. NBC/MSNBC is full of journalists. Here's hoping one or two long time journalists came to Keith's defense these past few days. But I doubt it.

We're not seeing too much in the way of integrity any longer in the media. So when someone like Keith comes along, the honest one, one of a few honest ones left, he is the one being targeted. By a bunch of spoiled petty shallow GOPer's running a website. And NBC falls for it.

      NBC. Of all companies.

Hint NBC: Trust the GOP websites and pundits and you'll lose everytime. They lie. And start trouble. About everything.

Welcome back Keith. Someone deserves a suspension over this.

Pat, this has exactly what do do with SoC's comments in Australia? Which, I believe, portray her as a human with a good sense of humor.

Good grief. Olbermann violated his contract, got a long weekend out of it, and is back on the air. There are, believe it or not, bigger problems in the world.

Thanks for posting this, Pat. As usual the right simply looksfor something to go after and they do so with glee. As for NJNB, I conclude that common sense is missing, a reprimand was warranted not a suspension. Theproblem isn't the fact that Keith O broke a rule, it is the uneven application of that rule. Where's the outrage on the right about FOX hosts failing to acknowledge their contributions on air when interviewing the candidate; where's the outrage that candidates go on FOX and opening request donations to their campaign which never happens on MSNBC or CNN.

I'm glad Keith will be back tomorrow - Parker/Spitzer just doesn't compare. Perhaps they'll even rethink some of their headlines... "Obama Defeat", bla bla bla... Yup that isn't judgemental... Almost sounds gleeful..

yeah, maybe hillary could go back to bosnia and REALLY come under fire as she claimed ....or maybe payback the whitewater investors....or maybe show she is fiscaly responsible by paying off her campaign debt, that she continued to increase when she already knew that it was lost. The only reason she is secretary of st. is to keep any one from assasinating obama and biden!...god forbid ...HILLARY?

Ummm, Teresa, in all due respect Hilary didn't get Healthcare now did she? But Barack did. The truth is what makes you think she'd be treated any differently than President Obama?

Besides she let Mark Penn and others run a very polarizing [insert any snark] campaign. I think with the emergence of those dreadfully, bigoted, Tea Baggers the country doesn't want to go there again. That would be an excellent opportunity for all the slime to return. Flashback.

She was told she and her daughter might come under sniper fire. If you know anything about women and mothers, as emotionaly centered beings, for them that is almost the same thing as bullets whizzing around your child's head. Try to remember that when your are a sniper's target, you rarely know what turned the lights out on you. One second you're here, the next you're meeting your maker. There is no advance warning of the attack, and little or no evidence that he has missed you either. Just ask JFK if he knew what had hit him before his head exploded three seconds after he was hit.

You hit the nail on the hammer. How about that President George W Bush trying to reshape his history in new book. After all, God told him to invade Iraq, at least that's what he told Palestinian ministers.

                    The truth is...

"He was thinking about invading Iraq in 1999," said author and journalist Mickey Herskowitz. "It was on his mind. He said to me: 'One of the keys to being seen as a great leader is to be seen as a commander-in-chief.' And he said, 'My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it.' He said, 'If I have a chance to invade·.if I had that much capital, I'm not going to waste it. I'm going to get everything passed that I want to get passed and I'm going to have a successful presidency." ....read on

The left is full of ad-hominem attacks and no skills. Keep on attacking the messengers - the message of th individual is not something you cannot attack without facts based on consequences. The policies of the collective have failed in the most atrocious ways (resulting in famine, war, and genocide). When you attack the bearer of the individuals creed in a method ad hominem, you only further the reasoning of why the herd, the crowd, the stampeder cannot be trusted.

Keep up attacking the messenger and you only further the message.
