Obama agenda: Somber and reflective

The Washington Post on President Obama’s post-midterm press conference: “President Obama, appearing somber and reflective after what he described as a ‘shellacking’ at the polls Tuesday night, conceded Wednesday that his connection with Americans has grown ‘rockier’ over the last two years and expressed sadness over the defeats of congressional Democrats who supported him.”

“Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke embarked on a historic test of unconventional monetary policy by using tools devised during the financial crisis to add fuel to an economy that’s been expanding for 15 months,” Bloomberg News writes. Here’s Bernanke’s op-ed in the Washington Post explaining what the Fed did and why.

“Officials in the Indian city of Mumbai have taken extraordinary measures to protect US President Barack Obama ahead of his visit,” BBC writes.

conceded Wednesday that his connection with Americans has grown 'rockier' over the last two years

Yes Obama. The biggest dem upset in 70 years definitely means it's "rockier" now.

He still doesn't get how pi$$ed off the voters were on Tuesday or why.

And the only thing he's "sad" about is that some of his cronies are gone

I don't think he'll ever be able to see past his own over-inflated ego.

How uninspiring

Well, what did he expect, telling 70% of Americans that they were "the enemy". His ego won't let him budge, meaning, we will have a rough two years ahead.

I think you're right about the next two years likely being rough. The Republicans didn't get enough seats to override Obama's veto power so anything they can get through the Senate is a pen stroke away from being dead. Not that I'd be in favor of the Republicans having enough power to override the President's veto whenever they wanted. Since they can't Obama will be able to stop the Republican agenda from moving forward and the Republicans in the House will be able to keep Obama's agenda from moving forward.

The partisan bickering and name calling is likely to be worse than ever. We may have to call our troops home and deploy them in Congress to keep the Republicans and Democrats from killing each other.

When Obama called Republicans "enemies" while on that Hispanic radio program it was most likely a slip of the tongue. The problem is that when your tongue slips like that you're usually saying what you actually want to say, but in most cases know better than to say.

Obama is absolutely comical. After 2 years of doing exactly the wrong things, destroying his party, and alienating the people, 2 days after the election he sits in his office with his cabinet and tells us what the American People want. He doesn't have a clue. He should try listening to the people instead of dictating to them. He now wants to compromise with the Republicans. There is no compromise. The people have spoken. It is a clear rebuke of his policies. Start over, and this time listen to the people. His support is gone in the Congress, the Senate will not support him even though the Democrats still have a slim majority. He is not in a position of strength. He needs to stop dictating, and start listening. He could learn just a few things from Bill Clinton.

Anyone that watched his speech on Wednesday at 1pm had to of seen it. He says he listens but then turns around and continues on his tunnel vision agenda. He just doesn't get it and he was asked that twice buy reporters (and that shocked me by the way........that the reports had balls to actually ask that. I don't know why kind of joy is derived from thread-crapping for hours on end, but apparently it provides some kind of gratification that can't be gained elsewhere.

Obama's Mumbai Visit to Cost $200M Per Day: Report

By Jon E. Dougherty at 2 Nov 12:21

(Newsroom America) -- A local news service in India says President Obama's upcoming visit will cost U.S. taxpayers some $200 million per day.

NDTV reported that the daily tab covers a myriad of expenses, from vehicles and security to the accommodation of about 3,000 people.

"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top government official, who was not named in the report, said.

NDTV said U.S. personnel have already been in Mumbai, where Obama will visit, for about a week.

The Economic Times reported last week that the administration has booked the entire Taj Mahal hotel - all 570 rooms - for the duration of the visit, which is expected to last just two days. Dozens of other rooms have been reserved in other hotels, the report said.

The hotel was the site of an attack, allegedly by Pakistan-based terrorists, two years ago. The three-day battle throughout the city killed about 300 people, reports said. A restored hotel was reopened in August 2008.

U.S. and Indian Navy ships will patrol the waters off Mumbai, to provide extra security, reports said.

Security requirements in Mumbai are no doubt much different than Sydney. Defense Spending and Secret Service costs have always been hidden from the public. Now that Obama discloses these costs you tories use such transparency to vilify the president.

well, we have him for another two years, and I pray that somehow he got the message. Somewhere deep in this man there has to be a humble side. He must realize you cannot treat the American people like a bunch of dummy puppets.. We have intelligence and know what this country really needs. He came in like a circus juggler,, trying to do too many things at once.. like letting a kid lose in a toy store.. running from aisle to aisle.

If I knew that somewhere deep into this man soul is an ounce of " I SCREWED UP" I would be the first to give him a second chance,,, but truly i think he is arrogrant and feels he can still control the dummy puppets with his talk.. I truly believe he is going to let his temper show again,,, and anything that comes out of the house or Senate he will smile and veto.. Funny.. how a person is given a beautiful chance to run a strong country and can't admit his mistakes and go forward learning from them... Well we have the next two years to see what direction all these people take us to... it will either get so bad or they all learn early that they need to fix the problems in this country and do it like adults... well, right now I believe he is a one term president.. if the election was today,,, he would lose. SO the Dems and Reps need to go to the drawing board and find the right candidate to run this country.. Hopefully someone with experience and can lead us back to into the strong and prosperous country we once were. We think that Tuesday brought us hope again,,, well there is no hope unless ALL of them Listen to the people... its always been, we the people.

I think that Obama, like a lot of other politicians, was believing his own hype and feeling invincible. And that he, like a lot of other politicians, needed to have his ego toned down a couple of notches.

But to the extent that it's actually sunk in, I'm not seeing it. At least not yet.

This happened because the democrats refused to listen to the American voters and so they paid the price. Heavily. I remember when the HCR bill was being touted at the town hall meeting and the dems screaming how it has to be passed now! now! now! seeing a video of a older gentleman saying "Obama took six months to pick out a dog but THIS has to be passed as fast as possible? I'm just not understanding any of this." It became obvious they were bullying it through while they had, more or less, a filibuster proof majority and that was the only reason. The voters aren't as stupid as the dems thought. I just wish I could see from Obama that maybe, just maybe that fact has sunk in. I don't think I'm going to though.

Look , Oblaba did not come into power through the back door. Everyone seem to forget the fanfare , the

of the first Black man to be elected to office. In the background , the powerbrokers were excited,

dribbling and wetting their pants at their financial success. What they didn't tell the people was

that Oblaba had not clothes, no experience, not management skills and filled with resentment at those

Americans who were rich and others who were hard working. The Middle class. Now, that his power has

blown off, and he is left standing alone, he is somber and reflexive? All his friends Czars are gone, he

has been steadily been lying to the American people, fooling them and implementing draconian measures

politicians forget to take into significance the phrase WE THE PEOPLE. How , it must have struck home to

You know, Charles: this is just a reflection of how the European tabloid style journalism (read that: Fox "News") is decaying the intelligence of average (or maybe below average) American citizens. Their inability to recognize that President Obama has been centrist is telling. When you rely on "news" that has no relation to fact, you can no longer recognize fact when it is in front of you. The thing that amuses me the most? These folks are being used by large corporations who wish to outsource more jobs, and continue the destruction of the American economy. My most disappointing moment of the whole election was as I was watching some results on MSNBC and someone read off some exit poll results that said something like 65% of people polled were extremely unhappy with the current administration and the way things were going in the country and the two anchor people said "our jaws just dropped" at those percentages. Are you kidding me?? If maybe, for once, news anchors went out in the world and found their "news" from actual people instead of just paying people whose job it is to promote an agenda (I don't care what station you listen to and/or watch it cuts all ways!) to come on their shows and tell them what they should think and/or quote polls that are provided by those same people maybe their "jaws wouldn't drop" when they found out what was going on in the REAL world!!! Stop reporting from a bubble! Get out there and find out what's REALLY going on for once. Evidently you're going to be surprised!!!

They like to call it passion rather than what it really is, ignorance. If you look deeper you will find the least amount of facts, research, and rationality comes from their yelling, screaming, and stamping their feet rather than entering logical dialogue. In the end they always lose. Try to think of one thing the republicans have ever done in terms of historic and beneficial legislation. You will be hard pressed to find any. President Barack Obama needs to not let this get him down. This is just the midterm election and the out come is normal. thats because he did do a lot but its like they say in boxing after you hit your opponent with a good punch don't sit back and admire your work. He needs to make sure the everything that he can control ,that he is controlling, like his Cabinet. if he made any promises and his Cabinet or those under them do not deliver thats not good and thats the main reason that voters do not show up in midterm elections they will just say he is just like the other politicians all talk no action. people love government with out it we would be lost, just think (no police, no fire dept, no military, no health care regulation,...) The Republicans don't want to work with President Barack Obama because he is a black man to them and they will never take orders from a black man thats sad but true. They want health care regulation but take that black mans name off of it, bcause the President is not their cup of Tea. This is hate thats been past down for years from back right after slavery.

It is policy not pigment that has Americans turning away from Obama and its getting pathetic to hear people on the left cry racism in defense of Obama every time something doesn't go his way.

Are there racists on the right? Yes, but the words of a few examples that you can find don't represent the feelings of the majority. There are racists on the left too by the way.

The left takes those few racist extremists far more seriously than the right does.

The left sees one person (possibly a plant by the left just to cause trouble) holding a racist sign at a Tea Party rally and generalizes that the entire Tea Party and in fact everyone on the right must therefore be racist.

The right sees someone holding a racist sign at a Tea Party rally and says "Okay, who told that idiot Billy-Bob where we were meeting?".

Fascinating response: all the usual defensiveness from the right. To recap: If ONE person is seen holding a sign, well, by golly, it has to be a leftie plant. No dice on that one Zendo, but thanks for playing. The whole 'teabagger" movement started when a black President was elected. We heard a lot from them about how he could not POSSIBLY take office because he was not a citizen of this country, against all evidence to the contrary, we saw 'teabagger" bullies carrying guns at rallies, to do what..INTIMIDATE people, a my way or else mentality, and we saw the thugs interrupt Town Hall meetings and not allow constituents to question and become educated about HCR. We have seen this President called a terrorist, Marxist, socialist, communist, by thugs who have no understanding of what those words even mean. Yes, racists, "teabaggers". That is all they are.

Did you check out the Communist Rally - err, the Colbert/Stewart Insanity rally where they were holding up signs of Republicans portrayed as Hitler?

Did you see the video of the liberal nutjob cussing and ripping down the campaign signs in someone's yard? Now there's a real Obama supporter for ya! Such class!

Black Panther's continue to show up at the polls to intimidate because they know Eric Holder is too afraid to touch them.

Sooner or later, it's all going to catch up with Obama and the Dems! Karma is a "Bayhar!"

And another graphic demonstration of how the right wing plays fast and loose with truth and facts. Do read about that rally. You are wrong, though I know it comforts you to spread rumor. The Black Panthers have had nothing to do with suppressing the vote by the way. But, facts don't matter, right?

Maybe because it's the way the Republicans have been whining now for 2 years and all the name calling since day one.......I would say yes, that has alot to do with it......Race and Color!

When we had dear old Bush I didn't hear a peep out of no one when the money was being spent right and left.

Sit back and enjoy...we'll be whining for two more years. We listened to you for 8 years, it's your turn!
