NBC: Democrat 'apparent winner' in Colorado Senate race

NBC News has declared incumbent Michael Bennet (D) the "apparent winner" in the Colorado Senate race.

Democrats held the senate and governor's seats in the state, but lost two House races in CO-4 and CO-3.

The balance of power is now 52 Democrats, 46 Republicans with two seats (Alaska and Washington State) yet to be decided.

Great news. What this election tells me is that the American people weren't willing to put the entire Congress in the hands of the ones who drove us over a cliff. Perhaps they're testing the GOP/TP and the best way to do that, the place where terms are two years only.

You and Odumbo still arent getting the point. This election was about his ridiculuos policies. The olny reason you didnt lose the senate is more of those democratic retards wernt up for re-election. Hopefully the Republican's and the "few" Democrats left who want to keep thier job in 2012 will help repeal the health care and Fin-Reg bills. Look at what these two worthless bills have done so far for the state of IOWA. VOTE REPUBLICAN UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR EMPLOYMENT RUINED.

Jody: What a foolish statement. Only 1/3 of the of the Senate was up for reelection. We'll get rid of the rest over the next four years if they continue down this path. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES.

We The People DO NOT WANT the socialist policies of the Community Organizer in Chief and his cronies... We DO NOT WANT a baffon who to spend more in 18 months than all other presidents to date...

jody, i think that is the best analysis i have heard of the election. i am glad that buck and angle didn't win, because they were just too extreme for the senate. i believe the country would throw the republican out in two years. we all know that they are not going to do anything but try to continue ripping the american people for their wages, give taxes to corporations and the rich.

Darn, things were going so well for a clean sweep victory and return to conservative hand holding and hugging, then somebody has to ruin it. Apparently.

What does this mean? Yes, or maybe, or when looking through curved lenses from the exact distance required to create a focal point?

Yes it is perfect, the Republicans hold the keys to the out-house. Do they charge by the liter, ounce or estimated inch deposit accommodation requirements?

    Perfect.

    As it should be.

One house held by one party. One house held by the other.

Now no one party can do whatever they want.

Colorado isn't a blue state Smarty. I've lived in Colorado my entire life and up until that stupid President Obama was elected it's always been a purple state. And nevertheless it's STILL a purple state. Its split right down the middle.

Stupid Hannah3323. Go back to your parents and ask them to teach you some manners. People like you are getting hand outs from the govts and you the one who probably pay lot less taxes than most of the folks in that state. You are a sheep and you should be in the hills of Colorado munching on left over grass from other sheep who have little more smarter than you are.

Excellent campaign Senator Bennett. I'm so glad that male chauvinist didn't get a seat. As it is with Rand and some other crazies in the senate it will be difficult enough and funnier than heck on the senate floor. C-Span may find itself competing with Comedy Central.

Can't wait to see the first spending bill that will make it's way out of the GOP House. Republicans don't have the political will, backing or means to cut the necessary spending out of Social Security, Medicare and the Military without cutting their own throats.......

......all while giving Wealthy Americans their Bush-ear tax cuts.

The "Party of NO" simply had to wait it out while the country dealt with their fiscal irresponsibility during the Bush years.

The GOP knows they won't be able to push anything thru and they will say the Democrats are "obstructionsists"............

the "Party of NO" will be re-defined as the Democrats while the GOP tries to push their agenda.

            History repeats..................

I guess that Colorado has changed a lot since I lived there. Even after the election you can't deal with the issues so you defame the candidate, with slander and innuendo. You claim these people are ignorant uneducated no nothings. If you look at their credentials you would find that some of them graduated from YALE, just like George W. Bush did. What gives you the right to slurr and slam people that have a different opinion than you do. Or do you want the censors to start telling you what to think or when to think. What made this country great was the ability of its people to make up their own mind rather than swallow the dribble that is vomited out of the main street media.

Actually there are three great results from last night for the Republicans:

Historic win in the house and Nancy P is fired.

The lost the Senate. Now Obama can not utilize his negative card and say he has no control as he still controls two out of three

Harry won. If he is not replaced a senate leader, he will be an easy foil for the issues that will certainly arise from the gridlock in the chamber. He has already shown he does not get it as his language about the party of No, set the stage that he really does not want to work with anyone.

So now the 2012 narrative is set: Democrats will blame the Republicans for lack of progress and the Repubicans will blame the Dems as the Dems become the party of NO for all the ideas that come out of the house.

Really is the worst situation for Obama chances in 2012.

On the positive side, maybe now after almost 2 years Obama will finally invite the Repubican leaders to the Oval office. It is so unbelievable that he has not done that todate and still claims he has worked with the other side (or as he says, his enemies, those he wants in the back of the car/bus,etc.)

Finally, thanks Republicans for the boost in the stock market as well.

                                1. costly war in Iraq where it was predicated on a lie...."weapons of mass destruction" remember?

                                2. costly war in Afghanistan......how many billion dollars a day you, americans, are paying for this war?

                                3. Bush tax cuts that increases the deficits but produces negligible economic benifits....

                                4. Clinton Aministration left with a surplus and a balanced budget thanks to tax increases.

And now you put those people back to the seat of power?

I have yet to understand how punishing the productive (raising their taxes) and rewarding the unproductive (gov't givaways forever) will help the economy.

Life is competition. Some people are born with more smarts, good looks, athletic talent, etc which they bring to the marketplace. Can you imagine a football game where the better team is penalized by, say, giving them 4 points for a touchdown and the weaker team is rewarded by giving them 8 points for a touchdown? Isn't talent and hard work rewarded? Isn't lack of talent and lack of effort also rewarded by teams losing on the scoreboard? Why isn't that also true in the economy?

You don't raise up the poor by dragging down the rich.

Fine. Lets end all programs that do that. Lets start with education. If you are poor, you get the education that you can afford(none).

Come back in 20 years and lets see how this country is doing.

But look at your own example of football. At the end of the season in the NFL, who is given first pick?

Best to compare it baseball. The teams that can afford the highest salaries to players tend to always be at the top.

Paying taxes is not a punishment. It helps pay for education - that'll prevent the real punishment of being surrounded by idiots.

Rightwinger, since you were a little bitty baby your father looked upon you with pride and had high hopes. What would he say today? You just got your a$$es kicked by a bunch of g0ddamned libs, LIBS!!!

Cmon people, Colorado is becoming more a progressive state by the day, far different than its neighbors in the Rocky Mountain Region. An extremist like Ken Buck can never be offered candidacy, let alone elected. Thank God for Boulder, Denver and Arapahoe counties who spared us from the niut case extremist like Ken Buck from representing an up and coming area and a progressive people. Stupid GOP, if you offered an reasonable moderate as a candidate, you could have very well have won. I knew last night that Buck was going to lose there were too many returns due in from liberal counties, Boulder voting 3-1 Democrat. With as close as the race was, Buck did not have a chance. I am not an alchemist that can turn water into wine, but the Tea Party performs this trick with ease turning, tea to lemonade to urine. That formula works in our more regressive sister states, but not Colorado.

I say three cheers for true blue Colorado, who will tip their virtual champagne glass with me? Shall we toast to "the thrill of victory over the agony of defeat"?

The good people of the Evergreen State has made me proud by resisting the reactionary and moving forward in a progressive path. Hats off to the progressive counties on the western side of the state. I am cheering Patty on, as a source of sanity and moderation in these challenging times. Bring me your glass, I am serving!!!

Now the party of no will be held accountable ! Its soooo easy to criticize and pick things apart, point out flaws, ...but now they are expected to actually do something... Cut spending, reduce taxes, and reduce the debt??? Its impossible to do all three at the same time without serious pain for the public. Lets see how popular they are in two years.

It starts with the most moderate and modest of cuts, say an even 1% per year across the board. Just a willingness to show restraint will bring the trillions sitting on the sidelines back into the economy. That alone will drop unemployment a few tenths if not a whole point.

Clinton left WH, the country had $230B surplus and paying off debt. That time national debt was $5.3T. Today it is 13.7T. When Obama took the office, it was 10.626T.

Name you cuts. Right now... Defense and wars --- 1Trillions/year, Social Security 710B, Medicare - $456B Medicaid $327B, Interest -$414B. Federal tax receipts for 2009 is $2.1 T.

Oh quiet with the Clinton stuff. It was both the republicans and democrats working together that got that surplus done. Lets not forget he did NAFTA too.

One thing the democrats will need to do is convince the republicans that the tax cut for the rich needs to expire so they can do another stimulus and prevent the bleeding of more gov't jobs like police officers and teachers.

There will have to be new taxes - there is nothing to cut.

I am happy that the Democrats held the senate and Patty Murray won (hopefully), I do object to the corporate money coming into Washington State trying to buy the Senate election. We will see just what will happen now that the Republicans will have to actually do something besides obstruct progress.
