Toomey wins; GOP has now netted 6 in Senate

From the NBC political team
NBC News projects that former GOP Rep. Pat Toomey is the winner of the Pennsylvania Senate race.

Toomey, the former head of anti-spending group Club for Growth, defeated Rep. Joe Sestak in the close contest.

Sestak overcame incumbent (and Republican-turned-Democrat) Sen. Arlen Specter in the state's May Democratic primary.

Toomey's victory means that Republicans have now netted six Senate seats.

I am a registered Democrat that at least hopes someone will look out for us instead of their party. The Republicans may not be the answer but the last 2 years have not been the answer. Try to hope for the best and maybe we can send the message to washington that they need to work together or we will fire them all! No matter what party they are for.

OK it is all over. Now will some one finally admit that taxes need to be raised to pay for the Iraq & Afgan wars. We were budget surplus for three years (1998-2001) and then the Bush Tax cuts put us in budget deficit, followed by starting and not paying for two wars. The TARP has almost paid for itself, but the banks seem to be reticent on lending money to average Joe.

It is funny that there has been such a huge run by the Republicans, though the DOW is now at almost 12000, almost double from when Obama came to office. I agree that the deficit is outrageous, but many didn't seem to mind it 4 years ago when it was almost double from when Bush took office. Oh that is right, Chaney told us NOT to worry about deficits and W told us to go shopping.

This is not a Democrat or Republican problem. This is an Amercian problem, and I doubt anyone will be able to find $200 Billion in spending cuts. When actually we will need about $500 Billion in spending cuts. Sooooo, I am sorry to say, but this is reality we will have to pay higher taxes.

Wow unreal, I think most Americans do not even take the time to read and learn the truth, they elected the party of "no", so now we shall see, they will be forced to work with our President Obama, and I believe in 2 years time America will see what a mistake they made, and Democrats get some guts and backbone, do what is right!

Yea but its sad that those higher taxes will be paid by the middle class, because you know republicans won't raise taxes on their wealthy supporters. Why is it that the richer you are the less you pay, its best to be either filthy rich or in poverty in this country and thats the sickening thing about all of this. I don't understand why we still believe in the concept of trickle down economics.

Chad you are delusional. The middle class doesn't pay the most in taxes. The top 10% of earners pay nearly 70% of all taxes in this country. And if they are already texed more than everyone else, why is it their responsibility to pay MORE because they are successful? Don't be a hater. Pay your fair share and quit complaining.

well Sestak, I hope you realize that it pays to be "pro gun" supporter and not to campaign around your state with an "F" rating from NRA. I am glad that I was part of the 60 000+ law abiding gun owners, collectors and firearms enthusiasts that made your defeat possible - good riddance
