From the NBC News political team
Republican Mark Kirk is NBC's projected winner of the Illinois Senate race, snatching the seat that former Sen. Barack Obama held in Illinois.
Kirk defeated Obama ally Alexi Giannoulias. Giannoulias struggled to overcome reports that his family's failed bank made loans to known criminals. The president and the first lady both made stops in the state to try to boost the Democrat.
Kirk, for his part, faced criticism during the campaign for embellishing his military record.
The victory for Kirk gives Republicans a net gain of five Senate seats so far tonight.

I can't wait to hear Ron in Indiana explain what exactly he based yesterday's projections on.
Don't be surprised if the explanation starts with "There were these tea leaves...."
This is a Total Rejection of Obama and his Policies........
Red States Blue States. Nuff Said.
Red fish, blue fish; one fish, two fish?
Barry, can you hear us now?
He may need you to pull your head out of your ass first.
Considering the hundreds of millions of dollars corporate america spent trashing democrats and the lousy economy the republicans did make gains but not as much as they should have.
Lol?
and like the unions didn't spend dollar for dollar......sounds like some sour grapes to me.
the same goes for democrats to!
K's $'s spent to advertise loosers democrats
Mr. Kirk,
It isn't much of a seat, sort of like a toilet; look at the previous renter. No matter how many times you wash it you will never get the smell of Bull$hit off it. You should probably just replace it!
In a couple of years we will throw allahabame, the previous renter of that Ill. toilet seat, off of the toilet seat that he has taken into the White House too. I wonder if there will be anything but mexican labor to remove it by then!

Whats funny is that your know nothing about Illinois politics, there has always been 1 republicans and 1 democratic senator from Illinois and a republican Governor.
You know your post can be talked very offensive by many people in Illinois, your mention a toilet seat, is that because a black man had it and that seat must be cleaned, to get the black mans residue out of it. i will say this, Go Screw your self. to imply that Obama senate seat must be cleaned tell my your a closet racist and have no tolerance for other people that look different than your sorry a**!!!!
The GOP agenda the next 2 years will be "get Obama" Nothing else!!!!
Duh? Welcome to DURRR-Land, Captain Obvious?
Time for the dems to have another Whine and Sleaze party. Corporate spending was the culprit? The reason the dem's had a good ol' fashioned ass kicking? The very corporations that provide the jobs everyone needs? The libs are never able to understand they are neither wanted, or needed. Tell 'em 'NO' or 'GO AWAY' and the end result is a run down the hall screaming so they can't hear anything but themselves, ears plugged, slamming the door behind themselves in the throws of another tantrum.
Sorry but conservatives are not wanted or needed depending on who you ask.
Blue States told 'em NO or GO AWAY and the end result is pumping fists in the air and pledges to repeal legislative efforts needed to restore our country's global competitiveness. Cant hear anything but themselves, ears filled with red state congratulations. Oblivious to the fact that although most job losses occurred in industrial blue states, they still voted DEM.
I am an Illinois Democrat who voted for Kirk
I picked the best of two bad candidates but felt I had to cross over this time. Kirk is a pro choice moderate. I am hoping that this can balance off our representation with liberal Durbin on the other end and that both can constructively work TOGETHER instead of refusing each other.
A word to republicans
You can cheer now but this session is going to be different than the last. Your reps can't get away with just saying no to everything and doing nothing like the last session and Boehner has basically said this. Now you will have tea partiers who claim to not be one of you in your own tent too. You'll find out if they're pissin' into the wind and on you very soon.
this sounds like the same ole crap.......just because barry says so doesn't mean it's true...
...i think the repub had some ideas but they were squashed by barry and his minions as not liberal enough.
Frank, its vague, general, baseless claims like yours that polarize and divide our nation. You THINK the repub had some ideas but were squashed?? You THINK rob99 is saying "nothing new" and something "barry" says? Perhaps you should THINK about doing some research.
Republicans have delayed and blocked the confirmation of over ONE HUNDRED Executive and Judicial nominees and TRIPLED the previous record set for Filibusters.

I hope our president will stop calling Americans enemies, how about calling muslim extremist our enemy not tax paying Americans. Somebody needs to call him on his language.
Poor choice of words agreed. However you must distinguish that Obama was referring to "those who oppose immigration reform" as "enemies" of Hispanic Americans NOT "enemies" of OBAMA

NEWSFLASH: Nationwide calls have been issued for surgeons and physicians capable of repairing all the torn A$$^#*&$ at the DNC this morning.
Hopefully the tax cuts will be restored for the future and the proper "patch" for AMT
put in place for 2010-Not to mention lower tax rates for capital gains. My H&R Block
tax prep job appears to be safe now.
I guess people would rather have someone in the Senate who has lied over and over about his war record

I can absolutely say I did not see this one coming. IL, you have given me hope.
