Feingold defeated in Wisconsin

From the NBC News political unit
NBC News projects that incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold has lost his bid for re-election to the Senate.

Republican Ron Johnson, a businessman, defeated the liberal senator from Wisconsin in what became an unexpectedly tight challenge for Feingold.

Feingold was first elected in 1992.

Six more years of the criminal and domestic terrorist, Bush Administration, on speed.

I can't wait.

Wisconsin and much of the rural U.S. truly does not know what it has voted for.

Oh yes we do. You know not what you speak of. Ignorance breeds blindness and I grew up on the farm and Orwells farm is not the place I want to live.

the voters of Wisconsin have lost their minds. There was never a more independent minded politician than Feingold. He made those on the left and the right mad. They have elected an apologist for child abuse instead.

Are you drunk? Feingold independent? That is laughable. That clown had 18 years to do something. Anything. And he did nothing. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

This was a huge mistake. Nobody worked across the party line like Feingold. Just ask John McCain.

That is the problem with both of those career politicians. Neither one of them creates excitement within their voting base. Lacking consistent, strong convictions and too middle of the road. Occasionally they will take a strong stand on an issue but not often enough. Conservatives see McCain as not conservative enough and liberals see Feingold as not liberal enough. That does not move people to vote for them.

          #13.1 - Wed Nov 3, 2010 1:29 AM EDT

The only time Feingold voted against his party was when the policy being voted on wasn't liberal enough! And McCain might as well call himself an "independent" for all the good he does the Republican party! So if that's your benchmark I'm even more excited that Johnson won!

A sad day for Wisconsin and the nation. The scare tactics of the Republicans have won over the uneducated masses once again. Its amazing to me that people have such short memories. We let the Republicans run the country for 8+ years and they run it into the ground just in time for Obama and the Dems to take over. So they're expected to clean up their mess in 2 short years. And when they can't pull off that miracle the American public goes right back to the ones that put us there in the first place. Makes a lot of sense to me!

It's about time the liberals stopped this uneducated masses crap. I know several people in America who are very educated and can see the socialist direction this country is headed in. Being a college graduate I can tell you some of the dumbest people I know are "educated" people because they have no idea what the real world is like. Because the liberal ran state school system force feeds liberal idealism to there students. I went to a private university that preached finding facts and making your own decisions. Furthermore Bush didn't start this trend you can blame your savior Clinton with his free trade agreement for getting the ball rolling on this. And it's about time Obama and his "hopey changey" followers get off the Bush kick and take some responsibility. He has done nothing in his two years but go against the will of the people and the proceed to tell us we were too stupid to know what we wanted and what was best for us.

Gloat now, enjoy your 'ignorant' bliss, but in the end your victory will be bitter. When you dance with the devil you'll get burned. This Wisconsinite is appalled how anger overrode common sense and don't be surprised to find out Johnson rakes you over the coals. Apparently you forgot the facts that liberal is derived from the same roots as liberty.

LOL! The term "liberal" has been mutated over the years to mean bigger government, more taxes, more government control in our personal lives, out of control unions, political correctness to a degree which is self destructive, anti business, pro socialism and even communism and on and on and on until nausea sets in.

Johnny- Thats because the left ( Liberals) have stood for exactly what you just stated sir. Although I will say the Unions are not liberal, they are however, full of sheeples who follow their Local# blindly. " We know what's best for you" mentality and that would be called "socialism".

Although I am a conservative, I actually like Russ Feingold and he did effectively work on the national level with the GOP. However, what he brings home to Wisconsin is what counts in the end and if he wasn't delivering what his voters wanted or needed, then he wasn't doing his job.

What a shame!  Russ Feingold has been a beacon of justice and accountability in the Senate for so long, we will miss him.  He was best known for the McCain-Feingold campaign finance laws that have now been thrown out by the Republican-appointed SCOTUS majority.  He was also a fierce critic of the PATRIOT Act, and was willing to sponsor a Senate censure vote of GWB for his conduct of the Iraq war, even when almost no other Democrat would support him.

Wisconsin voters, you are IDIOTS for voting this guy out!

Given what a surprise the loss is, more analysis is needed.

I'll bet that the republicans who voted him out have

                    a. a short memory

                    b. no knowledge of what feingold was about

                    c. gotten caught up in the pointless rage-o-hol of the meaningless life of a bitter clinger

                    d. dislike obama for reasons that have nothing in common with why a principled liberal dislikes obama. (cf. "can you hear me now" comments above)

Gee can I say that minorities love hand-outs without getting in trouble? I probably will, but it's a fact that depending on "who" you are, dictates what you are allowed to say, even if it's outright garbage.

principled liberal- really? when did that happen? that's like saying liberals work for a living.
