So now Texas will be ommitting Thomas Jefferson from history along with science(I believe in Christ and evolution) and looks like the large aging population is heading into dementia throwing words like communism without even knowing what it means and supporting the very party that spineless Democrats foolishly tried to work with to fix the mess the Bush years put us in. Forget political parties and read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence for yourself. Read what the left and right have to say and decide for yourself what the truth is and what your values are. We do not have free elections, whoever spends the most money usually wins. So why are we wasting 60% of the Federal tax pie chart on military budget to set up "free elections" in foreign countries that do not even like us?

Easy there, hard17.  The Tea Party might call your bluff and raise.  A lot of them support Flat Tax:  No deductions, no credits, no gimmicks, no monkey business.  Same straight % tax on everyone.  

Of course then we'd have all those unemployed accountants and IRS staffers to worry about, when calculating your taxes takes all of thirty seconds...

I have one question for all you republicans? What did Bush do as president besides lie, lie and lie some more? And why do you always talk about welfare? Do you even take the time to do the research or do you just repeat things you've heard other people say. Welfare is less than 14% of the national budget. Corporate welfare and spending trillions of dollars a month on unnecessary wars started by Mr. Bush are the real problems. These are crimes against humanity. This is the same thing Saddam was assassinated for. Get the hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan!!!! A terrorist is in the eye of the beholder. 9/11 was an inside job orchestrated by your friend Mr. Bush and his cronies!

By way, why don't you tea party people outcry for someone to be accountable for the non-existent weapons of mass destruction? What about the outcry for all the innocent Iraqi citizens that have lost their lives because of Bush, Cheney and the CIA's lies? Who cries for them while you all bemoan over taxes and government spending? What about the descendants of the indigenous people whose land we all live on or the descendants of the African slaves? Who cries for the Afghani citizens?

One last thing. You so call Tea Party activist and Republicans can not be Christians. Because you are always talking about taxes, taxes and taxes. Well, I'm a Christian who actually reads the Bible. Jesus told the rich man to look at the face on the printed money he loved so much and render unto Ceasar what Ceasar's. He also sad that you foresake Him when you forsake the poor, hungry and destitute. You can't be a Christian and not believe in socialism. Jesus did not walk with the rich and powerful. They are the ones that were threatened by Him and conspired to have Him killed. It's just funny to me how all you so called Christians in this so called Christian nation always seem to forget this. Jesus was not rich and had no aspirations to be rich. Jesus also said that it's harder for a rich man to get into heaven than it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. Makes sense to me because the love of money is the root of all evil. And, everything with ya'll is about money. If you were really a Christian, you would know and believe that Jesus will take care of you whether you share your wealth or not.

I'm just waiting for the day when "the chickens come home to roost" on this country like Malcolm X said. The Bible talks about the falling of a great nation in Revelations. I hope I'm still around to see America get what's coming to her......

P.S. I work for the unemployment commission in Texas. So, I know there are just as many "haves" calling up there begging for those benefits as there are "have-nots."

One silver lining is that most of the "blue dogs" who voted against Obama are history.

Wow - just wow. Ask any economist - the economy was set to fail over the past 2 years before Obama was elected. Fact. This economy is like a huge ship in the ocean - it doesn't turn quickly. It is simply ignorant to say that Obama's policies are responsible for the mess we're in now. When Clinton left office our economy was roaring and we had a huge budget surplus. When Bush left 8 years later, Wall Street was ready to collapse from overconsumption and greed, the major auto manufacturers were ready to fail, and we were stuck in a trillion dollar war that Bush started but couldn't end. Obama didn't create this mess but the sound-bite driven electorate has been brainwashed to believe that a very right of center democrat President is a raging marxist communist nazi who created this whole mess- which is meaningless but sounds good to the haters. I will be flamed by those people because I'm not joining in their ignorant rage. So be it. But I really am afraid of what is going to happen in our country now. 2 years of complete gridlock and obstructionism are ahead. Tax cuts for the rich will be increased- further concentrating wealth at the very top. That will lead to more destructive bubbles in the economy (remember how your 401k tanked with the internet bubble? remember how your home value tanked with the housing bubble? the ultra rich got richer both times... the Koch brothers that fund and control the tea party fall into that camp) because the ultra rich place big bets in stocks and futures when they have more money than they can spend - unlike the smaller entrepreneurs that actually create the jobs. Warren Buffet - the richest and probably the smartest businessman on the planet thinks he himself pays way too little in taxes. The stated plan of the Republicans is to remove Obama from power at all costs. In fact they will probably try to do anything they can to further derail the economy so that Obama can be blamed in '12. They will tear down our country just to spite Obama. That is what I think will happen now. Sad.

What a shock it will be when the Tea Party fruit loops who got elected find out that they can't just walk into congress, spout their idiotic nonsense, and POOF a bill is passed--and then watch as the voters finally realize what a bunch of ignorant jackasses they are

Excuse me Brian......'right of center'? Are you absolutely KIDDING me? This prez could not BE further LEFT if he even TRIED!!! No he didn't make the mess himself, it was started under Bush by the DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED CONGRESS who gridlocked him. However, Obama he has quite successfully made it far worse - never has such a drastic shift occurred, nor so much debt increased so fast, and it is absolutely scary. Most economic cycles are just that - cycles. Not under the control of the sitting president even though he's always blamed for them. But if you can't see the rabid shift toward socialism that has occurred in the last 2 years, then you are blind my friend.

Who said anything about Obama. He didn't create this mess. He isn't helping it out either. The Democrats like Barney frank and Dodd enabled F&F. This is fact. All these politicians from both parties suck. The libs, however just BLAME, Blame, Blame. Fannie & Freddie was not republican born idea. Period. This is my message for Boehner and the NRCC:
This win tonight will not go far. Republicans have no real plan to improve our economic situation. Your aim was to simply remove an African American from office or do whatever you can to make him fail. Shame on you all. You hide behind the vail of being christians, but you all are racist fearmongers. Republicans play on the emotions of unintelligent and unsophisticated people. You fill them with lies - taking away their guns; killing grandma. I am disgusted and ashamed to be a US citizen with people like you in office. You wanted your country back from an African American. May God have mercy on you all.

OK, I have read just about all of the comments posted here, and, suffice to say, they ALL bother me.

Firstly, I am a liberal democrat. I put this here for anyone who wants to comment on the post, it is kind of a litmus test. I am betting that I will get at least 1 vulgar or aggressive comment simply because I believe in a liberal agenda.

However, I do not bemoan the legitimate election of all of these politicians. Campaigning, stumping, solidifying positions are very, VERY difficult. Most individuals these days couldn't handle the pressure these men and women go through for their beliefs. The republicans truly feel that they can do what is best for this country, just as the democrats feel that they can. It just so happens that voters, through their civic duty, have spoken and a majority believes that the republicans are on to something.

We are not going to hell in a hand basket, as some posters have said. America does this same song and dance every two years, and the losing side always says the same thing. The unfortunate side is all the democrats have in these proceedings is promises, and the republicans have the past. Neither group really talks about what is going to happen once they swear in. Repealing health care is all well and good, but what about the injured soldiers coming home from Afghanistan? How are we going to help them? Keeping the tax rate at it's Bush era levels is dandy, but how will that help reduce the deficit that was created before the bloated spending practices often lambasted as a product of liberals?

The men and women elected into office today have a huge battle ahead of them. That goes for both parties. I feel that we may finally have a chance to usher in some real change, as in the parties working together for the people.

And, as a final note, like it or not, Obama is the president. He didn't get there by being a complete idiot. Wait to see how he approaches a divided congress before you draw judgement.

If the bush taxs cuts are extended to all America, instead of your plan to increase tax to the wealthiest 2%, then the democratic Senate and Presidents Obama's signature will be on that.
