Well, the electorate found out what total dem control costs:

1.3 trillion at the very least.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING good comes from having one party wield absolute rule. It erodes the public's confidence in Washington, it intesifies the possibility for bullying through unwanted legislation, it increases the chances for corruption, It gives politicians the feeling they're "untouchable," and it makes a large portion of the voters feel their interests and concerns aren't being addressed due to the fact that the electorate is made up of roughly 45% Dem 45% Rep (with about 10% being independent).

What happened last night was a good thing for everybody. We have some sense of balance in Washington again.

Obama WILL be re-elected if he works to achieve a sense of cooperation in Washington, as both Clinton and Reagan did. If not, he is in trouble. Americans do not want to see our government leaders behaving as though they are arch rivals. We want to see spirited and RESPECTFUL debate, which has been absent from BOTH sides for too long now. We want to see supposedly intelligent people coming together to hammer out compromises that incorporate the best of ideas from both sides (yes, both sides have good ideas). If Obama can be seen as successfully ushering that kind of cooperation, as opposed to calling Republicans the "enemy", he will be all the better for it.

So, if Obama can swallow his pride and admit that it is at least possible that some Republican ideas will not lead to the apocalypse, then he will be successful in his 2012 Presidential campaign. In addition, the Republican takeover of the House gives Obama the opportunity to show that he actually is committed to a post-partisan Washington. If he can't do that, he doesn't have a prayer in 2012, because nothing will get done.

And yes, Republicans have ownership in this as well, because if nothing gets done, they lose again in 2012....perhaps along with Obama. Both parties have been unwilling to move from their initial positions for too long now, and Americans are getting sick of it.

Or we have more gridlock. Guess time will tell. But, again, I hope that the Republicans behave exactly as they have promised. People have forgotten.

It is indeed a good day. Hopefully the republicans have learned a lesson. I am a strong believer in that people grow and change from errors. Hopefully the Republicans will do so, if not they'll be out just like the dems this time.

Their philosophies have nothing to do with Christ's teaching and it is insulting both to Jesus of Nazareth and the Tea Party to assume that they do not believe in evolution, simply because the Tea Party is cynical about proactive governmental attempts to deal with problems like healthcare.

Unfortunately, many of their candidates will now have the responsibility to figure out how to govern instead of complain. They will discover that it is not half as easy as they thought it was and they will need to be careful about the powers that funded this movement calling in all the favors that went with their money. Since they now represent us even though you and I did not vote them, I will pray that God's spirit will guide them. Concerning the education of conservative followers, look at the exit polls. The majority of voters aged 30+ with at least a high school diploma voted Republican today. Those without at least a high school diploma voted Democrat. I guess those people (liberal Democrat voters) were too smart to finish high school, huh?

This should be interesting. The American electorate has once again voted into office individuals based on popularity instead of actual credentials. Now we will see where this takes us. What will the Tea and Republican parties do now since they didn't receive the supermajority in either the Senate or the House and as of now, don't control the majority in the Senate. So republicans and tea partiers out there can only pat themselves on the back for winning the House of Representatives. Big deal. Now this is where the act of governance and the issue of 'compromise' begins. Unfortunately, the concept of governance and the formulation of a solid plan of action has been the failing of the Tea Party candidates and Republican establishment for years now. It will be interesting to see whether any attempt is made to follow through on campaign promises made by both groups to repeal and revoke the health care bill and other measures passed by the previous Congress.

Incidentally, if you hoped that this would be the case, I'll just say that it won't happen. Any bill brought forward in the House will be immediately killed upon reaching the Senate. Neither group holds a clear majority and both groups will be forced to compromise, a practice that has proven to be a bane to Democrats and a completely foreign concept to Republicans/Tea Partiers. Mr. Boehner says he won't compromise in his principles. Good luck with that, as the American public is now watching you and the Republican House as your Democratic nemesis hold the Senate. We'll see how your inability to meet anyone in the middle works out before giving you the boot in 2012 for getting nothing done as America wallows in its financial gutter. Congrats on your empty victory conservatives and democrats, thank your lucky stars that your inability to stand together on meaningful issues in the past two years didn't cost you more than it did. For the record I don't think that I or almost any other democrat wants an economic system where the state gets everything we work for. I DO believe in the idea that we as a society have a responsibility to look out for one another. I'm not a full on socialist. I don't think that all my income should go towards social programs.

But I do believe that some of my money, and the money of every citizen, should go towards programs to help out those who have ended up in difficult situations outside of their control. We don't live in a world where it is always someone's fault that they don't have a job...the recent economic crisis proved that quite well I think. Nor do we live in a world where every hard working person can afford health care. Many people who work full time do not get health insurance from their employer, nor can they afford decent insurance on their salary.

Are you really going to tell me I'm wrong for wanting to set up a system that provides for people in these situations? Have you ever been seriously ill, facing huge hospital bills that you can't afford and being forced into bankruptcy by medical bills? Have you ever had to deal with a sick kid who you can't even get insurance to cover? Have you ever been out of a job, even though you're trying really hard to find one, with few options to provide for your family?

Does the fact that I want to fix this mean I'm a Marxist? Really?!? What bugs me about republicans is that they sit around babbling about 'small government', but they're perfectly willing to tell people where they can or can not build a church. They're perfectly willing to spy on their own people. They're perfectly willing to fund a ridiculously large military. Meanwhile, back in the real world, I had an epiphany as I watched my state returns. The 1st district , where I live, re-elected a Progessive House Democrat, Pingree, by a wide margin. The second district, which is traditionally more conservative, re-elected a Moderate House Democrat, Michaud. The Independent for governor, Cutler, won by wide margins in the "urban" areas of Maine, while the rural, conservative towns are supporting the Tea Party candidate, LePage (the race is too close to call.) As far as I can see, the usual districts that support progessives, went progessive, the moderate districts went for moderates, the conservative areas went for the conservative. What else is new? I mean, c'mon. California stayed Democratic, the South stayed crazy red, the West remained "maverick-y."

The media makes it sound like this election was revolutionary, but to me its business as usual. I wish the media would work harder on informing the public of facts about the issues, instead of playing these Dancing with the Stars games. Jon Stewart is the only media "personality" that won my confidence in this election season. I wonder if any of the journalists are paying attention to that? Through the years, my taxes have built a wonder infrastructure in America that has allowed you to move your products to market. You probably do not understand that a tax cut for me is a couple of thousand dollars and you will receive tens of thousands of dollars or more.
