NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Secret Service requires people attending events with a president or first lady to be in place hours before the main attraction arrives. So organizers are forced to cope with the question of keeping people engaged for that time.
Senate Majority Harry Reid's campaign came up a solution today for the large crowd that jammed a high school gymnasium here to wait nearly two hours for First Lady Michelle Obama -- they turned it into a campaign phone bank.
Speakers, including Congresswoman Dina Titus (D), who faces an uphill battle for re-election, and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D), who doesn't, asked people to pull out their cell phones and call friends, neighbors, and co-workers to remind them to vote. To show them how it's done, Titus and Berkley made calls themselves, even holding their phones up so the recipients of the calls could hear the crowd, and holding the earpiece to the microphone so the crowd could hear them.
When Michelle Obama -- whom Reid introduced as "the closer" -- spoke, she received the most enthusiastic and energetic responses of the three speeches I've seen her give this fall. And Mrs. Obama seemed energized by the crown. Using a prompter to deliver essentially the same speech she's given since for more than two weeks now, she spoke with more feeling and emotion than those earlier stops.
A big reason why Nevada -- where one-quarter of the population is Hispanic -- is on her Election Eve itinerary can be found in the results of the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll: While only 45% of registered voters say they have a favorable opinion of President Obama, his approval rating among Hispanics is 55%.

I wonder how much these little politcal jaunts are costing the American tax payers. I'm sure there will be big paybacks of pork barrel spending in the next bill that O tries to get passed. I don't see these trips as "official" government business and from what I just read in this article, O is not the only one who needs a teleprompter to make a speech.

It amazes me each time I see Michelle Obama at how the decline in class the "office" of first lady has taken. Remember the elegance and poise it once carried? The modesty once exemplified by our first LADIES. What in the world has happened? I am left speechless watching "Michelle" step off Air Force Once in shorts, sleeveless shirt, and tennis shoes. I've seen her now in dresses without sleeves, and skirts so short that they barely covered her woo-hoo. What a great example to our young women.
Let's preach to our youth to be eat correctly and be physically fit so that we can dress like tramps and look like 2 dollar hookers. I, for one, am ashamed. I think that she should be setting an example and for heavens sake cover up. There is nothing wrong with being modest. I am not saying you have to wear long sleeved shirts or turtle necks nor skirts to your ankles. I am just saying clothing with a little more class and elegance that showed you lived in the residence on Pennsylvania Avenue and not on some street corner would probably be more appropriate.

Jackie Kennedy wore sleeveless dresses. So did Lady Bird Johnson. Both were considered to be stylish First Ladies.
Michelle Obama wears her clothes beautifully. You think Michelle Obama does not dress with class and elegance? I think you're confusing her with Barbara Bush. Lord knows, the designers tried, but when one is such a fatty it's nigh impossible to be elegant, classy and stylish.

It would be good to see a healthy discussion coming out of this blog rather than tearing one another up on self-grained ideologies or political philosophies. On a more bigger picture, it would be good for both parties and other sub-divisions to come together on certain fundamental issues affecting this country than tearing each other up on areas like healthcare, education,economy, war etc.. America is a great country, but politically speaking, its role in this world as a super-power has always been a two-tiered one. For an open-minded person who travels around the world, I admit that America doesn't have the best health-care system as most right wing conservatives boast, it's prison system stinks, which questions the very fabric of our legal system and puts enermous burden on our economy, its education system is not at par with other developed nations and continues to shrinks, we have some of the most crimiest cities than that of other developed nations, and the war on terror is essentially to sustain the interests and greed of the International Bankers, Energy Cartels, and few elite individuals and not the people of America (commoners) or the world. So, let's stop accusing one another on our self-righteours and self-centered views and start doing some more concrete and factual research on our formal insitutions that burdens our economy. I think it would help or at least, give us a sense of direction as to what we ought to know and respond to blogs of such poignant nature with a sense of honesty instead of promoting our self-righteous yet terribly incongruent ideas.

Mesquite NV. is a resort town struggling and drying up in this very high unemployment state. But guess who has jobs at the casinos here. Hispanics. Who works at the fast food places, Hispanics. Who still drives around in landscaping trucks and works for the city or the well - off retirees who want their lawns done, Hispanics. The main chefs in charge at the buffet at one casino today was two Hispanics. I can't say for sure they are illegal but the number working in a town where things have been hit hard and construction and business' has come to a screeching halt over the past two yrs. seems disproporianate of the working population. I hate it. I have family members affected by this recession that started their own business when they were young and newly married(after they worked hard for several yrs and saved $50,000). They have no work and yet they have hired Hispanics in the past in thier business. No body is coming to their rescue. Mr. Dirty Harry Reid has done nothing to help the small business people in his state. Banks won't lend. Tuesday dirty Harry will get his walking papers. The old man needs to be put out to pasture. Permanently! Never to be heard from again. I understand he has four sons who all are lobbyists in Washington and of course one is running for the State governor of NV. For gosh sake, get him and his own out of politics or you all will be having a repeat of history their again in a few yrs. Mr. Reid is not the Hispanic man or woman's friends. But he is using them for his own political benefit. He has money tho, maybe he will at least keep a few of them working in his own employ. Mr. Reid has been in Washington doing the work for his boss, like back room deals finalizing health care. REMEMBER!!!! Instead of trying to help his people in a suffering state he and Polosi, AND Obama are the three Musketeers running rampant over the American people, showing their arrogant ways, and snubbing their noses at all of us. Who the heck assigned them God? I don't want them making decisions about my life and having the kind of influence that they have been able to get away with. Where is Pelosi? Haven't seen or heard nothin' about her for the last few days. Maybe her plastic face got stuck on something and she can't function. What goes around, comes around. This I believe. Now, they will get theirs!! I will be laughing my head off. All you folks go vote now in the state of NV and get the old man out and the plastic faced woman in CA.
If all the money spent to elect all these people was used toward the federal deficit It would get paid off a lot faster. They spent millions that add up to billions. If they want the country out of a recession then give us the stimulus to pay off our houses to the bank and say pay them all off.. we could then afford the cars, trucks, etc. to put people back to work and get a kick start to start building this country again.
Yeah! And give me a big fat check, too. I'm with you, let somebody else pay for me. This responsibility sh!t is for the birds. And imagine, if the government gave us all its money, then none of us would have to work. And if the rich just ponied up so we could screw around, everything would be a lot better. Then the government could just print more money and give it to the former rich, so they wouldn't be so poor. Then everybody could just sit around and live off ... um ... China, Yeah, China could pony up.
I actually heard where all adults in the US would get $200,000 if the stimulas money would have been handedled that way.
The Democrats will lose enough seats tomorrow to make Obama the moron a lame duck. I'm looking forward to it.

Vitriol will not sway anyone to your point of view. Lately I've come to view much of the comments on these vines as pure useless white noise. Discard the asinine name calling and whining, folks. Try instead to support your point of view with evidence, reason and respect. You may find it easier to get those with whom you disagree to listen, albeit grudgingly. At least you will prove yourselves capable of defending your position with class.
As stated so often in previous posts, BOTH parties are responsible for the mess this country is in. When candidates from BOTH sides of the isle admit their mistakes and endeavor to work together for the good of ALL PEOPLE, then and only then will we begin to dig ourselves out of this situation. Until then it may be wisest not to support any incumbent, and to hold the elected officials of tomorrow accountable for every policy choice they make with our votes in 2012.
Remember, the president can only persuade Congress regarding policy with the bully pulpit and the VETO. He cannot enact legislation without Congressional approval. His vision for America requires the support of others. The fate of this country rests in the laws approved of by Congressmen and Senators. It is the Legislature that needs to be tamed by the voters.

While we're likely to get quite a few tea party candidates who appear willing to hold Congress' collective feet to the fire, how likely is it that an ultra-liberal and extreme Democrat Party will listen to anything but what the extreme left wants? I tried to read all the posts, but I find that bickering between children is very sad. I am married to a home builder who is not working, we lost our health care because the insurance company left our state. yes they left due to the new health care system. We lost thousands of dollars when the {real estate} bubble burst. We paid our debts off with nothing left, we pay our taxes and because we own a business we could not get on unemployment. We need a new government as the Constitution says {For the people by the people } not for the politicians by the politicians

I do not live in your country, but find it amusing how there is so much squabbling amongst all you folks. Up here in Canada, we also run with freedom of speech, but most of the time we quietly go about our business and listen more than verbalise. Knowedge is essential for sound decision making, but we try to respect each others' opinions more and say less. I am grateful for that. Good Luck with your elections. May the most honorable prevail.

Slight correction! The Chinese did not 'take our jobs,' American companies gave them to the Chinese.
Both the upper and lower house should not be able to serve more than 2 terms. That is the very best way to insure new ideas and force out corrupt politicians.
