The first lady cometh to Nevada

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Secret Service requires people attending events with a president or first lady to be in place hours before the main attraction arrives. So organizers are forced to cope with the question of keeping people engaged for that time.

Senate Majority Harry Reid's campaign came up a solution today for the large crowd that jammed a high school gymnasium here to wait nearly two hours for First Lady Michelle Obama -- they turned it into a campaign phone bank.

Speakers, including Congresswoman Dina Titus (D), who faces an uphill battle for re-election, and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D), who doesn't, asked people to pull out their cell phones and call friends, neighbors, and co-workers to remind them to vote. To show them how it's done, Titus and Berkley made calls themselves, even holding their phones up so the recipients of the calls could hear the crowd, and holding the earpiece to the microphone so the crowd could hear them.

When Michelle Obama -- whom Reid introduced as "the closer" -- spoke, she received the most enthusiastic and energetic responses of the three speeches I've seen her give this fall. And Mrs. Obama seemed energized by the crown. Using a prompter to deliver essentially the same speech she's given since for more than two weeks now, she spoke with more feeling and emotion than those earlier stops.

A big reason why Nevada -- where one-quarter of the population is Hispanic -- is on her Election Eve itinerary can be found in the results of the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll: While only 45% of registered voters say they have a favorable opinion of President Obama, his approval rating among Hispanics is 55%.

I'm so glad to see she received such a welcome and that the meeting time was put to such good use. Democrats go to work while Republicans would have been trotting out one speaker after another to remind people of everything they must be angry at and fearful of. It would bear no relation to fact of course. That's how they operate. I say that as a woman and a conservative that feels no commonality at all with what passes for conservatism today. It's a sad situation.

The American people should be angry and fearful of the WASTEFUL government spending, the unconstitutional enforcement of ObamaCare! It took less than 2 years for the Democratic Congress to increase the National Deficit by 20%. Democrats - you mean union workers who are overpaid, and are one of reasons many corporations outsource their job, and inflation and cost of living are so high. What most people do not understand is this deficit, this black hole Barry and Democrats like Harry Reid have achieved for the American people will suffered for many many years by our children.

Wow, you would think after giving the same speech for weeks...........that she might not NEED a teleprompter !!! It doesn't matter though, if Michelle is his "CLOSER", I think the First Lady will have a BLOWN SAVE !!!

Send her back to the bullpen........er, I mean the White House ! After all, there IS a lot of bull coming from Pennsylvania Avenue !!!!!

She already said what YOUR brand conservative wants elected officials to do: "remind people of everything they must be angry at and fearful of." And of course, make it their top priority for the next two years to destroy Barack Obama, just like Mitch McConnell promised.

Reid has to have the worst political instincts ever. Obama is the one that said at least twice not to go to Las Vegas and spend money. Reid bent over for Obama and now will pay the price. Obama told all the democrats they would be fine if they voted the way he wanted. Now I am sure he is playing golf and laughing as they become part of the unemployed. They bent over for obama and now they are paying the price. The american people are going to say "let me be clear" on Tuesday. Bye bye harry

Your not a conservative supporting the people that screwed this country up so go tell it to someone to stupid to know the difference otherwise known as a sheeple. They believe everything Obama tells them. Too bad he never tells the truth. Pelosi, Reid, Boxer and Clinton started us downhill with Free Trade and America has lost over 5 million jobs since Clinton signed it into law. Obama had his part in the Mortgage Meltdown when he sued Citi Bank back in 1995 forcing banks to make bad loans and Obamas main advisor bilked millions of taxpayer money while the CEO of Fannie Mae yet got protection from the Democrats for his theivery. America will never recover with the job killer Democrats in office. Giving someone a do nothing Government job does not count as a real job. Get a clue.

WOW, the hate I am feeling. And with all you NO TAX AND Spend so-called conservatives winning. Sounds more and more like you all have doubts. Some reminders for all of you. President Obama has only had one budget on his watch, all the other spending was set by your Mr Bush. He was the one who approved the bailouts of his banker friends. Obama saved the auto industry (who has been paying back their loans). All those who think union workers are so overpaid..fine, how about just paying us $300 a month, but then you would have to lower the price of healthcare to..well free. Lower rents to $2 a day. How many of you who think people are paid TOO much make? Do I hear jealousy? Think the CEO's make too much? Like 300 times their average employee? And the way the tax code is, get away paying less than 15% while you are paying 20 to 25% + SS tax on ALL your income? Get a grip. Governing is not as easy as it looks. But then your leaders will soon find that out. One thing on this article though. You make fun of the use telepromptors. George Bush made good use of them too. Good luck tomorrow. You will need it for the next two years since the senate will still be in the Dems hands.

I hope Nevada will get back to their senses before they make a mistake and elect a complete moron that believes like in third world country we should have a coup to take out elected officials when elections dont go our based on the second Amendment.

Worse for Nevade they will probably finally become the dumping ground for nuclear waste as the GOP planned for them (and Angles supports) that Reid had been protecting them from since he gained power. And when last did the Federal Senator of a State get this much share of jobs blame than the Governor that runs the State. Federal Sentators make Federal laws and State governor and State legislature mostly determine what happends at the State. Only when the Governor is Republican and the Senator Democrat and over 50% of the people watch Fox and are told who to blame. Even the new democratic admin is blamed in most people's mind for bailouts that was passed in 2008!!!

Doesn't make much sense, does it. It is irrational everywhere, even in states like Iowa where things are pretty good. Culver is getting the blame for the Bush-created Great Recession even though our state has lower unemployment numbers than most others and than when Branstad left office nearly 12 years ago; we have a reserve fund; more business, more green jobs but it is likely that Branstad will win. Sigh...

It is about reducing the size of government, being responsible and being independent. You can't blame any of this mess on one party or president. It’s inevitable that if Senator Harry Reid returns to the Washington, that Liberal-Democrats will pass--AMNESTY. He has promised to the 13 to 20 million illegal alien criminals that this is a foremost issue to bring to the Senate floor. Once this message resonates around the world, foreigners will be boarding jets or jumping the North or Southern borders to take advantage of this imminent Immigration Reform bill. Makes more sense to enforce the 1986 laws already affirmed in law. Already those who have settled here is an enormous economic burden on citizens and legal residents, so the next waves to arrive here will become an irreversible critical financial disaster for taxpayers. This is not the illogical dream of just Senator Harry Reid, but Barbara Boxer, but Nancy Pelosi, Janet Napolitano, Russell Feingold and all but a few of the hard-left politicians of the progressive movement. THIS CAN BE CALCULATED AS HIGHER TAXES, FOR US ALL...?

We need TEA PARTY, moderate centralist's, Independents and other political party associates to disinfect, thus erasing this accumulation of open border sewerage ideology. NO MORE TAX AND SPEND; NO MORE NEW LAWMAKERS ANSWERABLE TO THE HARD CORE LEFT, THE REPUBLICAN ELITES; ANSWERABLE ONLY TO THE FURTHER INTERESTS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. NEW POLITICIANS WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO THE US CONSTITUTION AND THE PEOPLE. Hold answerable President obama, First Lady, Governors, Majors, Judges, Police chiefs and a growing virus of elected official, who have been approving policies of Sanctuary cities and States. In this severe recession no lucid politician should be thinking of adding more labor or welfare recipients, to the 15.6 million American hoping for a job. Tabling any form of Amnesty will send the decisive message, that criminal activity is not to be rewarded. Use certain keywords, to substantiate the lies from the facts at NumbersUSA and Judicial Watch. At these websites investigate the corruption and propaganda from the ultra Liberal extremist media, tinged with Marxist views that are enveloping the US. GOOGLE--Illegal alien costs and the Democratic push to include illegal aliens in our Social Security. In addition read what the non-profit Heritage Foundation has to say about the propagation of illegal immigration and the 2.6 Trillion cost of another--AMNESTY.

              Jayem - Oh really?

$1,620,000 received from Koch foundations 2005-2008[Total Koch foundation grants 1997-2008: $3,358,000]

The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank with predetermined bias against climate policy.

Recently the Heritage Foundation has: misinterpreted the impacts of global warming on the US economy; twisted news reports to justify claims about 'climate taxes'; issued deceptive economic analyses and presentations; and released allegations about economic ruin and job losses from green stimulus investments by Congress

              http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/en/campaigns/global-warming-and-energy/polluterwatch/koch-industries/the-heritage-foundation/

Two brothers, Charles and David Koch, each own 42 percent of the company. Part of Koch Industries' influence is channeled through three foundations, also controlled by the two brothers. This report documents roughly 40 climate denial and opposition organizations receiving Koch foundation grants in recent years, including:

-- More than $5 million to Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFP) for its nationwide "Hot Air Tour"[3] campaign to spreading misinformation about climate science and opposing clean energy and climate legislation.

-- More than $1 million to the Heritage Foundation, a mainstay of misinformation on climate and environmental policy issues.

-- Over $1 million to the Cato Institute, which disputes the scientific evidence behind global warming, questions the rationale for taking climate action, and has been heavily involved in spinning the recent ClimateGate story.

              [plus many more ...]

              http://www.docudharma.com/diary/23073/the-koch-brothers-millions-dollar-effort-to-halt-progress

The Heritage Foundation is no stranger to crap science--they've been paid over $600,000 from Exxon since 1998 (the year global warming "stopped", for those that believe in cherry-picked science, *cough cough* Inhofe), and over $3 million from the Koch brothers since 1997.

              http://www.polluterwatch.com/blog/heritage-foundation-cuts-and-pastes-upend-scientific-report

That includes, for instance, $5 million to Americans for Prosperity (AFP) for its "Hot Air Tour" attacking climate policy. Mind you, some of the links Greenpeace details seem slightly overstated. The Kochs give lots of money to the Heritage Foundation, for instance, which does employ several climate-skeptic pseudo-experts. But there are plenty of reasons the Kochs might want to bankroll Heritage—the group promotes a wide variety of right-wing causes.

There is nothing wrong with attacking climate policy. There is nothing wrong with funding an organization that will do it. There is nothing wrong with funding a particular point of view. There is nothing wrong with an industry defending itself. There is nothing wrong with Al Gore getting rich disseminating faulty information and environmental evangelism. I think he's an idiot, too.

And there is nothing wrong with supporting your left wing biased sources, either.

But personally, anytime I see somewhat reasonable lefties coming up with right wing conspiracies and demonizing those who fund another viewpoint, I'm comforted that I'm not losing the argument.

You guys could not be more wrong on this amnesty story. Neither will you be more dissapointed after tomorrow if you get your way.

              THE FACTS:

              - The last President to pass amnesty was Reagan. No strings attached amnesty basically. The last President to bring one to the floor was Bush. And he also won 40% of the Hispanic vote.

In today's America, any guess on how many Hispanic votes does a Republican need to win the Presidency? Any suspicions why McCain supported amnesty just three years ago? Until he was no longer seeking the Presidency. Can anyone explain what the Republican strategy will be to lock at least 30% of hispanic votes in two years? Someone put on a big hat and see why Republicans this time will again push amnesty.

              - Obama has deported more illegals at a higher rate than any President
              http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/25/AR2010072501790.html

              - This admin has increased border patrol 7%, and militarized the border with drones
              http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20100506/pl_politico/36844

              http://www.democracynow.org/2010/8/19/obama_signs_600m_bill_to_increase

              - Even the much maligned stimulus Bill that was 40% tax cuts included increased border patrol provision:

              http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/border_security/arra/

So on the facts, Obama is enforcing our border laws and tightening the border more than any recent Republican President. And this is truly and sincerely the facts!!! Yet you wont know it by the above comments.

You liberal democrats are amazing. Anybody who disagrees, anyone with information you don't agree with, are the ENEMY. Only those who toe the party line are worth even the slightest consideration. The hate oozes from every word you type. You really should control your bitter urges, or you're going to be very frustrated in your old age.

I want to believe you. I really do. However, every single Republican president we have had since Reagan ran up deficit spending instead of limited ANYTHING!. You can blame the Dems all you want, but the record disproves it.

If you want limited government then bury the Patriot Act!!!!!

                Jody, Iowa

"Heritage Foundation is an ultra-conservative, right wing think tank--of course, they said what they did, all the more to convince people illegals are out to get them, cost them their jobs and taxpayer foot the bill. Fear, be sure to stoke the fear, it is the one thing conservatives excel at."

Jody, maybe you are too young to remember when Clinton "balanced the budget.? A republican congress did it and he approved. Now we have a borrow and spend congress that has no fiscal responsibily, has increased the deficit by more than $2.5 trillion in 2 years and plans to raise it another $8 trillion over the next 10 years. Is that what you voted for?

Of course the idiots on the left believe that reinstituting the taxes on the wealthy will solve that problem even though the left says it will only bring in $700 billion in the next 10 years. So, where does the other $9.3 trillion come from?

It is more than obvious to those of us who have a clue about basic math that the left has no clue, wants something for nothing and couldn't care less about America's future as long as they get a few bucks that they didn't earn today.

Those of you that attack my citations of the Heritage Foundation - I just mentioned that the Koch Brothers fund it. It is pretty obvious that you didn't like my citations.

I provided those citations to prove a point. The fact is that I was able to find - from multiple sources - that the Koch Brothers DO in fact fund the heritage Foundation.

                  Can you show otherwise?

Al Gore got very wealthy peddeling his global warming nonsense on people like you Pietro. It's funny that he would move into a very expensive home, very close to the very ocean that he said would be taking over the land mass that that very home were located. Why would he move there if he beleived his home would be overcome by water? What a flim flam phony! Got any more for us? Were waiting.

Don, the thrust of my post(s) is that the Koch Brothers are funding the Heritage Foundation. I provided citations proving that. What does this have to do with AL Gore?

                    Richard, Washington State

There is nothing wrong with attacking climate policy. There is nothing wrong with funding an organization that will do it. There is nothing wrong with funding a particular point of view. There is nothing wrong with an industry defending itself. There is nothing wrong with Al Gore getting rich disseminating faulty information and environmental evangelism. I think he's an idiot, too.

And Richard, the thrust of this post was to prove that the Koch Brothers are funding the Heritage Foundation. In no way am I saying that it is right or wrong; all I am pointing out is who is doing the funding. You are reading more into this post than what needs to be.

                    archangel 3:16

The sources you are sighting for your rebuttal are just as biased as the people they are attacking. Come up with independent information. Greenpeace and other environmental groups are just as one sided as the energy companies whom they fight with.

Again - they are providing the source material(s) that are proving that the Koch Brothers have funded the Heritage Foundation. Not credible in your eyes, but I haven't seen any lawsuits or 'cease and desist' orders from the Koch Brothers that would make me think the source was not credible.

Forall of you - Look - it seems to me that you are looking for a left wing/right wing slant on this post. There is none as it pertains to the context of this post. Did the Koch Brothes fund the Heritage Foundation? I posted 4 sources that say YES.

Care to post any citations that prove me wrong?

Why can't they all work together to make this place the best nation it can be? They all sound like a bunch of 7yr olds playing on the playground! In the mean time, soldiers are dying, moneys gone, no one can afford to be healthy, houses are being taken from hard working people, children are dying and so much more.

No class there! I'll never forget the pic of her with both arms over her head with her pits facing the camera showing the world her 5 o'clock shadow. Disgusting and very classless. Now where was that class? The title of the article should have been "Harry's loser".

YOu just proved that America can be an evil country with your evil remarks. You may not know what she meant but a lot of us do. I felt the same way a one of four Blacks in an all white school where we were spit on, hit and emotionally traumatized as a 10 year old. There were a lot of people then and even now who don't want you to feel like an American citizen, so yes, I KNOW what she meant!

They know that's how they got elected and that's who they are taking care of. Read Michelle's college thesis, she is so anti white, it's a disgrace to even think of her as 1st Lady. Crystal582 - the reason we can't all just get along is because we can't all agree on how this country should be run. And all the argueing - that's called debating and it makes for a healthy and productive environment. From your comments, I can discern that you are the type to expect the government to solve all problems - let me break it to you gently - not going to happen. And as far as all those "homes being taken away from hardworking people" -I don't know of a SINGLE person who payes their mortgage and had their home taken away. I do know of a lot of people who bought homes they could not afford, and are now crying to the government about it!

You're talking about a woman who said until her husband was nominated for President she was never proud of her country. Funny how she had no problems accepting the scholarship money to put her through one the country's finest universities. I'm pretty darn sure that money didn't come from someone in Africa, or an illegal alien. More than likely it came from law abiding, tax paying, legal citizens like my parents. Wake up!

There is plenty to say about the money-hungry Obama's, the Missus in particular. I wish the US would fund my European vacation.

Dont ever refer to the Downs' Syndrome community in the inconsiderate manner you have chosen to do. It is immature and completely uncalled for.

your right people with downs syndrome should not be talked about like that, any body that does, does not understand how downs syndrome children are born like they are.

Now the first Lady's trip, you do understand that the Obama are RICH!!!! properly more rich than the Reagan's, and Bush's. I'm sure president Obama dropped a check to cover the expenses from that trip. it came out of there checking account.

I have read several posts that have been posted and I didn't realize that there were still so many uneducated people with an opinion. Yes, everyone is entitleed to their own opinion but if you are going to have one at least let it be meaningful. If you don't have anything knowledgeable to say than don't say anything. First of all, Obama walked into this mess. He didn't create this debt! And if any of you knew anything about investing you would know sometimes you have to spend money to make money! To top all that off I bet half of you that are bashing Obama can't even reap the benefits of the Republicans! Are you upper, middle or lower class? What is your annual income? What tax bracket do you fall in? If you're not making at least a 6 figure salary and have at least a half a million or more in the bank than their plan doesn't apply to you. Will you be able to afford to pay for your children medical expenses and college out of your pocket? If your answer is no, than you shouldn't be against Obama... The world needs to get over the color of ones skin and focus on the greater good of all! And then to speak that way of Michelle is just right ridiculous! Michelle is an astounding role model for women of all race. Since when if your damn dress doesn't have sleeves establishes the fact if you have class or not? Vacations? Hell tell me what president and their family didn't take vacations at the country expense as you like to say? Please forgive me for stooping to your level and using profanity but sometimes you have to get on ones level to get them to see where you are coming from. I think we all need to get on one accord for the greater good of our country and stop fighting against one another before we look up one day and be a third world country. I could right a book on this blog but I will make one last point and close. How does anyone feel there's room to cut education funds when we are already years behind other countries in education? Have you checked your labels lately? Almost all electronics and things that require knowledge to make is made in China, Japan and Korea and other countries. If we as citizens put half the effort into educating ourselves and our children as we did into sports just think how far we will be. I say leave the Obamas alone and let Barack do his job! First straightening out the BS that he stepped into and take this country somewhere it has longed to be!

Thanks for your reply Faye. As a christian I can relate to Matthew 5:44 and the message you are trying to relay to the other people that has written a post. For those of you who are not familiar with scripture Matthew 5:44 says: "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"

                            Amen!

It would be interesting to know, somewhere down the pike, how many votes you libs cost the dems, screaming racist.

when did i scream racism, all i said is that the president will never take you guns away, because there are some that don't want that negro in the whitehouse.

If they want to become citizens, let them do the way all other immigrants have done; I don't care if they work as long as they pay taxes and take the same responsibilities as we (LEGAL American Citizens) have. You should probably shut your mouth since obviously you have as much sense as a brick......like most liberals!!!!

The new democratic administration is blamed for the 2008 bailouts because it is the democratic control of both the house and senate which passed those bailouts. The democratics have had control for the past 4 years, 2 of which were the last 2 years of the Bush administration.

Donald, Reid is gone. He carried the water for Obama and now has to pay the price. He really thought Papa Obama would take care of him. Obama sends his wife who has not been elected to any office to beg for Reid. It is just pitiful. Obama has the stink of a loser all over him. He is our African American Jimmy Carter. See ya Reid

they are not going to repeal HCR thats a pipe dream, remember the president has the power of veto, and it taked 2/3s to over ride his veto. so good luck.

also i likes laura Bush, i thought she had alot of class, yes she had problems in her early years but i see her and she has nothing but class, the same as Michelle.

michelle's father was a insperation, he had MS but worked to support his family and raise 2 great children in a nice middle class neighborhood.

stop hating, because she always was the best at what she did, she went to whitney Young HS on of the best public HS in america, from there Prinston and law school.

Once again, i must inform you that every president since Hoover has been a socialist, every president that has funded SS, medicare and medicare is a socialist.

second, i must ask you if you have a family member with a pre-existing condition?

I'm 62 and if it weren't for my wife's @!$%#ty job at Walmart I would have no health insurance. You think I'm going to blame Obama, Pelosi and Reid for my problems? I am a perfect example of a middle class American being squeezed by the corporatists whose policies are supported and have been for the past 30 years by the Republican Corporate Fascist Party. You are suffering from learned helplessness. You want the government to take care of you like a little baby. You are being squeezed by corporate trial lawyers who push health care up with their law suits. If you look around, Obama and his wife are living like kings, flying around the world on vacation and playing golf. They would not give you a penny of their money, but they have no problem putting their hands in every one elses pocket to give it to you.

As battle cries go, the Tea Party's "Take our country back" is a pretty good one. It's short and punchy, and it addresses a very widespread sense that the nation that Americans once lived in has changed, and not for the better.

When the Tea Partyers get around to identifying how America has changed and to whose benefit, however, they get it almost all wrong. In the worldview of the American right -- and the polling shows conclusively that that's who the Tea Party is -- the nation, misled by President Obama, has gone down the path to socialism. In fact, far from venturing down that road, we've been stuck on the road to hyper-capitalism for three decades now.

From 1950 through 1980, the share of all income in America going to the bottom 90 percent of Americans -- effectively, all but the rich -- increased from 64 percent to 65 percent, according to an analysis of tax data by economists Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez. Because the nation's economy was growing handsomely, that means that the average income of Americans in the bottom 90 percent was growing, too -- from $17,719 in 1950 to $30,941 in 1980 -- a 75 percent increase in income in constant 2008 dollars.

Since 1980, it's been a very different story. The economy has continued to grow handsomely, but for the bottom 90 percent of Americans, it's been a time of stagnation and loss. Since 1980, the share of all income in America going to the bottom 90 percent has declined from 65 percent to 52 percent. In actual dollars, the average income of Americans in the bottom 90 percent flat-lined -- going from the $30,941 of 1980 to $31,244 in 2008.

In short, the economic life and prospects for Americans since the Reagan Revolution have grown dim, while the lives of the rich -- the super-rich in particular -- have never been brighter. The share of income accruing to America's wealthiest 1 percent rose from 9 percent in 1974 to a tidy 23.5 percent in 2007.

That there is the hard rock bottom truth. We’ve got a bunch of folks spending a bunch of money on various hootchie-cootchie sideshows and such like in the hope that the distractions they’re providing will get you to take your eye off it. Time to start asking the question “WHY”

These folks don’t care about your “2nd amendment rights” Heck they’ve already got enough money to hire some security to keep you off them. They don’t care if you go to shooting at one another as long as it doesn’t interfere with business as usual. They don’t care if you or your children are educated. They’ve already got enough money to make sure that they and their children can attend the best schools and universities. Matter of fact it’s in their best interest for you to go thru life ignorant and complacent as an old milk cow standing in a stall chewing your cud and getting milked twice a day.

They don’t care if you get busted up pursuing your profession and have to go to the hospital or it disables you so you can’t work at much anymore. Way they’ve got things worked out right now they’ve got 10 folks willing to fight over replacing you. They don’t care if you have any income when you get older and your productivity starts to decline. You see they’ve spent the last 30 years making sure that they’ve got their golden parachutes all lined up.

I applaud you for your well written email. Unfortunately there are so many Americans so blind-sided by all the hipocracy and greed within our elected officials, they cannot see that things will never change for the working class, except for it to get worse, not better. I will vote, because I know it's a priviledge to do so, but I am so discouraged by all the negative politics in this country. I thank you for sharing your thoughts.
