GOP maintains midterm advantage in new NBC/WSJ poll

In the final NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll before Tuesday's midterm elections, 49% of likely voters say they prefer a GOP-controlled Congress, versus 43% who want Democrats in charge.

That's virtually unchanged from the NBC/WSJ survey from two weeks ago, when the GOP held a 50%-43% generic-ballot advantage among likely voters.

Among the larger universe of registered voters -- a less reliable gauge of those who will participate in a midterm election -- the GOP edge in the current poll shrinks to two points, 46% to 44%. That's a reversal from two weeks ago, when Democrats held a two-point advantage with registered voters.

For the registered Republicans who prefer a Republican-controlled Congress, 15% of them say their vote is to protest the Obama administration's performance; 20% say it's to protest the performance by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and congressional Democrats; and another 10 percent say it's to protest both.

On the other hand, 48% say their vote isn't a protest vote -- but rather a positive vote for Republicans.

The full NBC/WSJ poll -- which was taken from Oct. 28-30, and which has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points -- will be released later tonight.

Give me a break...if you read an military news sites or publications you would know these discoveries were common, but not the type of world-ending threat that was presented. If there was even ONE significant find we would have heard about it long before now.

Our countrymen that try to instill fear in other US citizens are so un-American.

        John,

You just keep on posting. We have only a day left to show the electorate what a bunch of ignorant asshats the Democrats are. You are doing a great job at that.

I see that that we still have as ignorant as ever voters! If you haven't noticed it seems that the South and the Midwest are arm and arm. Make the tax cuts permanent and repeal the health care bill, because there won't be enough money to run the Government. I live in the state of Washington, at one time we rated our school system as the best in the country. The unwillingness of the electorate to vote for school bonds, etc. we now rate somewhere bottom 1/3 I'm sure that can be disputed. Point: the result of running a government bottom line enterprise, exit the entire principal of for the People! So much for rambling, see you in the soup kitchen.

Current focus is Govt control, govt led jobs, extraction of money from wealthy and businesses so that Govt can hand out more and spend in Govt led projects which are grossly inefficient by definition and historically.

Question is Why do people elect politicians who are living in 50 years past and have little or no experience in business, economy or management? By reading 100 books on socialism, one cannot turn the limitations of socialism around!

I see a lot of bitter comments from Dem supporters. Question is why are you bitter? Why do you make this an ego issue. You supported the wrong ones in the first place. You had the power to elect competent ones and make a difference, you didn't. Fact is your leaders failed your expectations and our expectations.

If the goal is to prosper collectively, then does it matter which party is elected?

One of the misconception is that the economy is a zero sum game! It is not. You take from one and give it to the other, that is distribution and not economic growth! You may do it for empathy for 1-5% of the people. But when you start to do it on a mass scale as a matter of policy you are killing growth and the wealth generators.

By the same logic, what matters is how much YOU make not how much your neighbor makes. If the Govt learns to manage its income much like 90% of American households do, why would there be a need for a debt or taxing the rich excessively. Besides that will spur growth!

Think and stop the divide and bitterness. It is time to bring sanity to the congress and put a stop to Obama agenda which is not helping! let us work together!

As FR said that Democrats and White House aides said that Oblaba is prepared to use his veto-pen and stare down the ugly Repubs. I was just wondering what happened to his shovel. Now the 5th Horseman is gonna use his vetopen. Nice.

Let us take a real look at things. Does Anyone think we would have a Black man as President if it wasnt for the total pathetic job the prevous Admin. did to this Country. How quickly everyone forgets paying 5+ dollars at the pump for gas as they sat and did nothing, While the Oil companies who financed thier elections made record profits from the middle class. Creating a FALSE war on Iraq by lieing to the world about weapons of mass destruction held there. Chaney's gay Daughter can say what she wants. But lets put the blame squarely where is deserves to be Please.

I was ashame and embarrassed of the United States of America for the 8 years the Bush Admin. was in power. I thought we could build a better relationship with other countries instead of the arrogance Bush showed to the world. How proud I was to elect a President of the people of diverse and educated backround. Only to see the ugliness of the GOP hurt and hinder not only OUR COUNTY, But the the People of this great country. Calling Shameful insults that they would never say to anyone face to face. It is the lowest and shameful conduct by the few that bring this country apart making it a target of every nation.
