GOP maintains midterm advantage in new NBC/WSJ poll

In the final NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll before Tuesday's midterm elections, 49% of likely voters say they prefer a GOP-controlled Congress, versus 43% who want Democrats in charge.

That's virtually unchanged from the NBC/WSJ survey from two weeks ago, when the GOP held a 50%-43% generic-ballot advantage among likely voters.

Among the larger universe of registered voters -- a less reliable gauge of those who will participate in a midterm election -- the GOP edge in the current poll shrinks to two points, 46% to 44%. That's a reversal from two weeks ago, when Democrats held a two-point advantage with registered voters.

For the registered Republicans who prefer a Republican-controlled Congress, 15% of them say their vote is to protest the Obama administration's performance; 20% say it's to protest the performance by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and congressional Democrats; and another 10 percent say it's to protest both.

On the other hand, 48% say their vote isn't a protest vote -- but rather a positive vote for Republicans.

The full NBC/WSJ poll -- which was taken from Oct. 28-30, and which has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points -- will be released later tonight.

The republicans were out of control with their spending as well. However, that is called deflection and does not make what Obama is doing justified. He said unemployment would never get above 8% if we passed his stimulus bill. Now, he just says Oh well, I didn't know how bad it was. What you don't understand is the government has no money to spend except what they take from the people and companies. They are not adding anything into the economy, just moving it around, like rearranging deck chairs on the Titantic and thinking they are doing something. The reason no one is spending is because Obama is trying to put his hand in everyones pocket. Obama's argument is "Things could be worse". Football coaches that try that argument are usually fired rather quickly. Maybe if he can open up the border a little more he will get a few more illegal alliens to vote for the democrats, but it is too little too late.

I got a feeling that if the GOP does it again they will become unemployed. I will be watching as all conservative Americans will be.

There was an interview w/ Mitch McConnell......Senate Republican Leader...... the article states that his party's top goal in the new Congress would be ensuring President Obama is not reelected in 2012. That sounds like someone who is not going to want to compromise at all or pass anything that he sees as making President Obama look good. That means he would rather ignore the people and what's best for the country....due to his own partisan comments. Hopefully people will see this by 2012 and have a change of heart.........again! The House goes to the Republicans and The Dems barely hang onto the Senate..........Please don't let Angle win!!!!!!

Jeffersonwasright, what song will you be singing in two years when the economy is the same or worse than now! I'm sure you'll find some bogeyman to blame. How about the "liberal" media. That always seems to work for rightwing morons who get their wisdom from Hannity, Limbaugh et al. What i find encouraging about the mess unfolding now is the fact that the Republican party, once the party of Lincoln and Roosevelt is now the party of the lunatic fringe. What few minorities you parade around for show are all Toms or Joses. The Becks and Palins of the party have suceeded in purging the party of anyone to the left of Jim "crazy as a @!$%#house rat" DeMint. You morons really think the American people are going to accept you fools in the long term? Good luck with that, dummy. It is just a matter of time before the nuts who now run the asylum overreach and its " goodbye daddy"! Thump your chest while you can Jefferson, it isn't gonna last long.

I voted early and guess what...my vote doesn't align with these polls. A vote for the GOP is a vote for the health insurance companies and a vote against Americans who need health coverage. A vote for the GOP is a vote for the uber wealthy and a vote against middle class America just trying to survive. A vote for the GOP is a vote for the mega corporations and no financial regulations on Wall Street. A vote for the GOP is a vote for another economic melt down. Please - vote wisely.

Not a surprise isn't that the liberal way. Always talk a good game then rip them off in the end. Sort of like Al Gore he was set up to become a multi-Billionaire for tax and cap.. But that is how they work.

Keep there voters in the dark. Control the schools and indoctrinate the children. Some scary stuff. It will take many many years to fix this mess.

You know Mr Gores movie was banned in Great Britain to be shown to school children. Not widely known.

Obama cut taxes: 5 straight quarters of economic growth: voters don't know it. Why? Maybe it's because most of mainstream media constantly repeat GOP talking points:

For the last 60 years the democrats have controlled the house of representatives for about 8 out of every 10 years and the senate for 7.

Then the liberals blame the republicans for the countries problems?

Say Don, why is it when a whining Republican loses a close election it was stolen by the Democrats but when you nitwits win a close one it was won honestly?(See Bush, 2000) People like you with your intellect only proves that in order fo the Republican party to exist they must have a base made up of halfwits, dimwits, morons and imbeciles. Your obvious lack of brain cells qualifies you to vote for the Party of thieves, crooks and liars, aka the Republican party.

This country is so divided there is nothing that can get done by either party... no one wants to work together for the common good, period. I don't believe people saying Pres. Obama did nothing he campaigned on: he talked health care reform, he got it... barely and with LOTS of compromises and it wasn't really what he wanted but all he could get; he said he would end the war in Iraq and now all that is left there is 50,000 USA troops in advisory capacities; TARP was passed on the Bush watch; the stimulus did save and create jobs, just not enough: that is going to take more time; it has taken us eight years and two wars and massive spending while cutting taxes to get us where we are... it is not going to suddenly go away in two years NO MATTER WHO is in office; you would have to be totally clueless to think we don't need some financial regulation (or enforcement of what was already in place) after the mortgage debacle that helped take not only us down but almost every other country as well.

We GOT what we asked for, people... and we let, even encouraged, our politicians to give it to us!!! We are a weak, spoiled, greedy nation: and we're just showing our true colors now by expecting what the government will DO or NOT DO to bail out us out of unbridled spending, and lifestyles that became unsupportable when the plastic melted down.

The TRUTH is: we can't handle the truth. There is absolutely NO one on either side of the aisle that I see is going to effectively take a severe stand and LEAD us out of this mess: because they are too bipartisan and worried about their jobs!!

You see our politicians, folks. They are us and I am purely disgusted. We listen to too much science fiction spewing from comedians who want to make money off our insecurities; radio talk show hosts who are nothing but inflammatory because it keeps the masses stirred up and supporting their puppets; inexperienced marionnettes with bobbing heads whose strings are pulled by groups who are not thinking of this country but of their own interests. Why has a private businessman from Australia gained so much political power in America? Money talks, doesn't it? And it buys all kinds of things. It has certainly bought out Truth.

Are there any statesmen left in America? America, does anyone love you anymore?

Yes, the republicans spent too much but that does not make Obama jsutifed in taking it even higher. He will not turn it around in two years. He has the stink of loser on him now and he looks out of touch. He is Jimmy Carter all over again. On Tuesday, he will get to hear the people say 'Let me be clear". The house will stop him from doing any more harm till we can get him out of there. Maybe after he is out of office he can hang around with his lisping buddy Barney Frank.

A lot of the resistance is from people who are taking this as an ego issue. It is simple. You lie, you fail to deliver and you shift blame and refuse to take responsibility, indulge in divide and racial segregation, you are out.

unless you are related to Obama there you should not make this an ego issue. He has failed to lead, to grow and to mature and get educated. He needs to be stopped. Let us support what will help grow our economy. Shifting wealth is not growth!

Everyone complains; no one does anything about it. Do you feel represented? Do you feel as if your voice is being heard? Do you like the current two-party system? What would happen if the US held elections and NO ONE showed up to vote? Think you'd send a message? When the colonists threw all that tea overboard what were they protesting? Don't you think we've again reached the taxation without representation point? Do you think this "new" tea party has the answers? NO! It's time Americans took back their freedoms and once again made this country "OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE!"

Then you keep firing them. Eventually it will work and cause them to listen. That is the power of the vote.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans on health insurance...

                                              October 30, 2007

The State Children's Health Insurance Program measure passed in the House last week would expand the program by nearly $35 billion over five years, the same as the measure Bush vetoed on October 3. Bush had proposed adding $5 billion to the program, and said the version he vetoed would have encouraged families to leave the private insurance market for the federally funded, state-run program.

it's not what you are that makes god happy it's what you become the shame is your life for greed and unkind to your fellow man and you will be judged in the hereafter for your sins

I am sure glad you are here to tell me how much money I should pay to make God happy. The only answer I get from Obama about how much to pay is more more more.

and you realize Greed is seen in those individuals that do not want to work (or work little), and are perfectly capable, while taking from those that work hard. Hard work in God's eyes is rewarded. A person who works hard to keep a business afloat in these difficult times, providing many families with jobs, will be praised by god.

                                                          Eagle,

Only Fannie, Freddie, Merill lynch, Citi-group, Countrywide, AIG, and a few other banks with heavy exposure were on the brink of bankruptcy. Since the Democrats were in charge of congress at that time, your comment is just plain stupid. Keep blaming Bush. Since that is your only hope, it seems you are a sad sorry person without a life. Stay home on Tuesday and do America a favor.

But they put IOU's back in the box so that makes it all ok. However, I think they are crossing their fingers when they do it so it does not count. We have lost any chance at social security because of all this debt. Of course, Obama will get a nice retirement wont he.
