McCain campaigns for Raese, defends attacks on Dems

Charles Town, WV -- Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) showed up here ready to shake hands, sign autographs, and encourage the people along W. Washington Street to meet and vote for GOP Senate nominee John Raese (R), whom he described as a “fiscal conservative” and an “old friend.”

(One description of Raese that didn’t come up today was “crazy.” When asked about opponent Joe Manchin’s newest ad that describes many of Raese’s more controversial ideas as “crazy,” Raese chose not to respond.)

As McCain and Raese walked down the street together, greeting veterans and flanked by cameras, the Arizona senator told a local candidate, “When I heard John say he was more conservative than the Tea Partiers, that’s my man.”

Later at a street corner press conference McCain did not back down from the harsh tone he has taken while campaigning against Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Patty Murray (D-WA.) His response: “These are harsh times.” In reference to his comments specifically about Murray, McCain said, “I have been on the floor for 20 years saying that earmarking is a corrupt practice ... so why should I be reluctant to say it when one of the most ardent practitioners of it ... will continue on that path?”

He was less harsh towards Raese’s opponent and joked, “I did notice that Gov. Manchin is running away from President Obama as fast as he can... If I can make a suggestion, I would suggest that the governor become a Republican and run against [Dem Sen. Jay] Rockefeller next time.”

"There's an Obama bumper sticker on the car [in the ditch], we know that," Gibbs said.

Now that is funny. Lets hope Gibby can find work in the private sector. He will get 99 weeks unemployment though, so he'll have time to look. He kind of has the look of a McDonald's assistant manager, a paper hat would look good on him.

I'm not sure McCain is good for Raese. I'm not sure he is good for anyone. Everytime I see him I remember his choice of Sarah Palin and cringe. I'm assuming I'm not the only person that has that reaction.

Right now, if McCain campaigned for Motherhood, Apple Pie and Chevrolet, they'd lose. That'd be MY reacion, Ana.

I once learned that if you can't say anything good about a person, don't say anything at all.

Maybe fiesty you should learn from an ancient chinese proverb.

It is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool,

than to speak and remove all doubt!

      Get over it Big Bear!

This is a political blog and not Sunday School M'kay? Maybe YOU should just LEARN...

      Ancient Chinese proverb? HUH?

Ummmm... pal... It WAS Mark Twain who coined that phrase!

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

      Mark Twain

But thanks for playing anyway... lmfao!

      Feisty,

Good job correcting him but I think his intellectual capacity was much more in tune with Thumper than Mark Twain.

I'm glad to see our Senator is keeping himself busy. He is so sure he has the election locked up here, he isn't even bothering to run. I find this very arrogant. I wish that the folks of Arizona would give old John a surprise and vote him out. But, I'm sad to say, he'll probably be re- elected. He certainly does not have my vote.

Why is the earmarks discussion ONLY talked about during elections? Is ANYONE going to do anything about it?

      Of course not.

That is the irony of it...one congress person's earmarks (for projects back home) is another congress person's so-called 'pork'...a rose by any other name...

It is still money coming back home to some part of the US in one form or another...Without it those congress person's will be thought of as ineffective to their constituents back home.

Hard to imagine that anyone in the MSM ever thought McCain had ANY sort of ethics or principles. He was, after all, caught up in the Keating Five scandal from the S&L crisis. He shmoozed the press and they fell for it, plain and simple.

      actually Miss AnaBanana,

Mrs Palin was probably the best choice McCain ever made, except perhaps becoming more conservative himself as of late. She was the one that enegized most of the base in the last election, including myself. When I saw that Obama and McCain were going to be the nominees...I was looking to vote for any other party besides Dem or Repub. She was the only one that made sense enough for me to vote Repub.

I agree with you Joebuck with regards to Palin being the best choice McCain ever made. It guaranteed a win for President Obama.

Palin is the gift from McCain that keeps on giving. She has brought all the crazies out of the woodwork and it looks like you are one of them. Do you sleep with her book every night?

Both parties need to be replaced and then campaign finance reform instituted so our elections are operated more like England (30 day campaign, $5,000 max. spent by each politician).

By the way; Check out this "Free Web Portal" (www.WeMakeItInAmerica.com) that will take you to American Manufacturers that make products which are "Made in America" (75% to 100% American content) "AND ALSO" American Businesses that also sell "Unique and One of a Kind Products" from around the globe which employ American Workers (save money, save on sales taxes, and save on shipping).

I'm not sure why Raese is even allowed to run for the Senate in West Virginia. He and his wife Liz live in Palm Beach. His daughters attend The King's Academy (www.tka.net), a well known private school in Palm Beach. An internet search for Jane Raese shows her performing in a play on the school's YouTube account (www.youtube.com/tkalionheart).
