Carly Fiorina's (R) Senate campaign in California just released this statement:
"Carly learned more than a year and a half ago that she, like millions of women, had breast cancer. After successfully battling cancer, she had reconstructive surgery this summer and remains cancer free today. However, this morning Carly came down with an infection associated with the reconstructive surgery and, as a result, she was admitted to the hospital to receive antibiotics to treat this infection. While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon. Carly is looking forward to getting back to her full campaign schedule and to defeating Barbara Boxer on November 2."
*** UPDATE *** Says Barbara Boxer campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski: "We wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery and hope she is able to return to her normal schedule soon."

I wouldn't vote for her but I do wish her well.
Hey Faith,
Get a freaking life. Go join a crusade somewhere.
While I agree to a degree, I wish it was that simple. What do you propose as the best method of enacting your solution? Did you support Arizona's enforcement of imigration laws?
So nice to see that your sentiments are in the right place. What a hypocrite! What an ignorant fool How did you deduce that her treatment and campaign were set back by the actions of illegals? Did illegals give her cancer? did illegals give her the infection? And let me tell you my friend, wih her money, she doesn't have to stand in line befind anyone....that's one of the percs in our society when you are moneyed and privileged. Also, you may want to reflect on your "faith" because people of faith that I know do not spew such stupidity as you did by your comments..
What in
"Faith" what in the world are you jib jabbering about??? Seriously, "illegals" kept Ms. Fiorina from receiving adequate care -- Are you joking? If so it's in extremely poor taste.
And by the way all caps typing is yelling -- not the most polite way to win friends and influence people...
God expects us to obey the laws. Illegals break them. Period.
To SC Stumpy,
Dude, maybe she shouldn't join a crusade unless she already has....the Tea Party.
faithbased - what a moronic post. I wish her well but hope she loses big time in the election. She has tried to buy the election - just like so many in the GOP. And, your ignorant comments just show who her supporters are!
Faith, And God gave us brains so we could use them, you are failing his expectations in that area, Ms. Fiorina is immensely wealthy, I doubt if she has to wait in line behind sick hapless immigrants
W. Goin - So you would prefer that a politician accept special interest money and then be a puppet for their agenda?
Faith, it's illegal for any Public Hospital to refuse service to anyone in need. For obvious reasons. Get a clue.
Firstly, I wish Fiorina a speedy recovery.
I don't know what is more ridiculous. Your screen name or your statements. Faith based government? Really? Is like the Taliban?
mommaB ~
Well written. I agree. "faith" had a most strange and angry reaction to this news story. I do not live in CA so could not vote either way in this race. But I do wish Ms. Kapolczynski well in her "speedy" recovery.
No matter the state of health care in this nation, it is a true fact that a person in her position would not have to wait on any lines for medical attention. I can understand the frustatiation of some about the illegal problem -- but that matter has little if anything to do with this lady's personal health, anymore than does the pro-choice/Life issue. Some just take any chance to "vent" about their personal issues -- no matter the forum. I hope everything works out for the best -- for this lady, the state of CA and our nation.
Faith, where in the Bible does it say that God wants us to obey all man-made laws? It doesn't! While we should generally live by man-made laws, some are unjust. Do you really believe that God wants you to be an unjust person?
Fiorina can ad will do NOTHING about illegals receiving healthcare. As for them sucking up services, you are wrong, wrong, wrong.
me of little faith - So God wants us to break the laws? WOW! I guess that is why you have "little faith". Who decides which laws are unjust? We should obey ALL laws and try to change the ones we feel are wrong.
What has Boxer done in the last 5 years, she let all this mess happen.
That's why I give Carly a shot at it couldn't get much worse anyway.
You mean this great nation that was built on stealing, raping and killing?! You do know that this land was taken over by foreigners...Don't you? People who came here from other countries to make a better life for themselves...Sound at all familiar?
Wow...you are scary. Apparently you don't respect the Constitution's separation of church and state which is bad enough. Most frightening is your over inclusion characterizing illegal immigrants as "criminals". What about the innocent childern and farm workers just trying to get by? Shall we imprision them as well? What about the legal US citizen children born to illegal parents? Shall we imprision them as well? You know, California spends much more money on prisions than schools, so we might as well just go ahead an increase spending in the prision system.
"Christians" with views like yours are what is ruining our state. Have a little compasion as Jesus would advocate and go to Hell.
Have fun funding your advocation of an illegal roundup. I'm sure that as a state, that is precisely the way we should spend our tax dollars.
Faith
Do you really think this is what Jesus would have be doing if you could listen to him? Do you really think what you are doing is lifting up the teachings of God?
Do you really think your actions are bringing anyone closer to God (including yourself)?
All I see is a bitter, bitter person with a large piece of wood in their eye with no concern for any child of God let alone helping anyone.
FaithbasedGov.
Let me as one of thousands of Cancer Surviors tell you how it is if you get an infection while you are undergoing Cancer treatment. You walk into the emergency room and tell them what is wrong and that you have cancer and you not only go to the front of the line, you are put into a private room, no matter if you are rich or broke. Once they know that you have an infection you are amitted to the hospital and go straight to a private room and nobody is allowed in your room without going to a Nurse or Doctor first. I spent five days in the hospital from an infection and the only people I saw was my husband and grown children. Also they won't let you out of the hospital until your white blood count is back up to I think 500.
Now about the illegal people that are in the United States. There is no one person in House of Reps. or the Senate that can make the illegals stay out of the United States. They don't just come from across the border they also come by boat and in shipping containers from overseas.
It would be to your best interest to think about if you vote for a Republican and you may have been listening to ALL THE NEWS that you may be voting to get rid of Social Security, Medicare, and welfare. If that is what you want then so be it but don't whine when you can't get those precious benefits because you will be one of many people that voted to get rid of them. You might also want to think about not having any decent roads to drive on and there probably won't be any school busses to take your children to school. My understanding is the Republicans want to get rid of the Department of Education, IRS, Transportation. They want to build up the Military so we can go and destroy more countries and in the process finish the job that GEORGE W. BUSH AND HIS TEAM started. Of course you probably agree with their idea to bankrupt America.
You should think and re-think all of your decisions before you vote.
Faithbasedgovernment,
Your comments are by far the stupidiest sounding, most idiotic I have ever encountered. We need to round up all of you teabagger morons into a single insane asylum where you will stay until hell freezes over or until you learn some common sense, which ever comes first. Only then will justice have been sufficiently served.
Faith - first, speaking from experience...my aunt had decent wealth (nothing like Fiorina's) and she got immensly better treatment than anyone else regarding her breast cancer. Money buys what "free health care for illegals" will never get. Shove that in your stupid pipe and smoke it please.
Second, if as you say God wants us to obey laws...did it occur to you that maybe GOD gave Carly cancer, because maybe she didnt obey laws?
Finally, as pointed out...we are all decendants of illegal immigrants...since this nation was stolen by white europeans from native americans - whom white europeans slaughtered enmasse in their quest to "manifest destiny" all under the guise of carving out a better life for themselves.
Frankly, the immigration problem from the south...appears to be karma in action.
"God expects us to obey the laws."
This is up there with some of the most outlandish things I've read on Newsvine. Civil laws are made by people; they are not holy. While you should endeavor to be a good, law-abiding citizen, I'm pretty sure driving a five miles over the speed limit is not a "sin."
My guess is FaithbasedGovernment is not a real person, but the political black op of who knows what group or person. Faith's arguments are just too ridiculous for me to believe they are actually held by an individual.
What saddens me about 'Faithbasedgovernment' (what a weird moniker) is that 14 people voted to agree with you, Really? Have we sunk this low?
Faith. You are a fine example of what the Tea Party has to offer. Slogans without substance. Keep the faith, Faith.
verno,
Your're absolutely right.
Faithbase, you seem to think Carly didn't feel well so she went to the ER to wait in line with the illegals? Thats funny. Illegals may suck up services from us peons, but not healthcare for the Fiorinas and Boxers in this world.
And You of little faith, render unto Caesar things which are Caesars... Its in the Bible, and I'm sure I dont have to tell you where (hint its in a book called "Matthew"), also Pauls letter to the romans tells to obey the authorities. So, there you go, illegals are law breakers.
Thank you, Jody, for starting this out with a voice of reason. Is all of the bickering really necessary on this thread? I don't agree with Ms. Fiorina's politics either, but can't we all at least come together in wishing her well, for crying out loud? Everybody needs to take a deep breath and realize that sometimes things are "real life" and don't need to involve politics. When someone is sick, or dying, or has died...can't we just put our political stance aside and think of them and their families during a difficult time? Trust me...there will still be plenty of opportunities to argue amongst ourselves on other threads. This one shouldn't be one of them.
"God expects us to obey the laws" its that kind of faith based logic that had millions obeying the laws of the Third Reich! Happy Holocaust!
Hey Faith
As I told someone else before, put your brain for sale, you will get a very good price, it has hadly been used at all!
Funny how we keep electing the wealthy to lead this country. By the wealthy for the wealthy, supported by the TP
The article I read did not mention "illegal". It mentioned infection. It must be a pretty serious infection for it to knock her off her feet and off the campaign trail. I hope it does not affect the way voters react.
Wow, talk about getting off subject. Wish the lady well and be done with it.
By the way, with all the attention you are giving Faithbased, you are just giving them the attention they want. Best thing to do is let them fade away. Ignore them.
I am a conservative and fervent supporter of the Fiorina campaign. I believe she can and will be instrumental in guiding California in its recovery. Unfortunately, I become very skeptical when I com across statements or comments that not only are insensitive, but are moronic and ill-conceived, demonstrating a lack of thought or basic education. Please understand that if your gripes are against an educational system that is lacking, point taken. But you are somehow relating the news about Carly to the existing immigration problem in California. Using your line of reasoning, could Carly's trouble be the result of the moronic individuals like yourself, tying up the World wide web, propogating thoughts of ignorance??Shouldn't you be voting democrat.
faith-nobody likes you today:{ you need to brush up on your american history and bible:>
First, I have to reply to Dianne; you are wrong, good Christian Germans opposed the 3rd Reich and died by the thousands for their pains.
As for the rest of this, in conscience, we all weigh the laws of the state against our own morality and act accordingly. But someone please tell me the over-riding morality of harboring, employing and sheltering illegal entrants.
Hey Faith, if you know so much about the Bible and are a true theologian, why did Jesus hang out with prostitutes, theives, and other sinners? I see no connection between an unsuccessful HP CEO and immigrants, either legal or illegal. And I suspect that she receives the kind of medical treatment that 99% of the rest of us never could afford. You got your head where the sun NEVER shines!!
Get well soon Carly,
Faithbasedgoverment wants to go to the outer reaches of Alaska to close the border with Canada and to be closer to Sarah Palin, yes Faith we have over 6,000 miles of border to close
Ditto Jody
I think you've just been reeled-in by Faith.. and his/her trolling!
Thank goodness someone else knows trolling when they see it. Cheers to the rest of you for feeding someone's lulz habit.
FaithbasedGovernment banned, one-issue derailer about illegal immigration persistently off-topic.
Everybody that is responding to Faith is enabling him/her. Ignoring idiotic posts is the best and fastest way to take the wind out of an idiots sails. Quit fighting back and the idiots will be left without a microphone.
Hoping for a the best for Carley, and praying that we find a cure for Breast Cancer.
Regardless of party.
me of little faith: "Faith, where in the Bible does it say that God wants us to obey all man-made laws? It doesn't! While we should generally live by man-made laws, some are unjust. Do you really believe that God wants you to be an unjust person?"
In Matthew: “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” (“Ἀπόδοτε οὖν τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ τῷ Θεῷ”) (Matthew 22:21).
It is generally interpreted to mean that we are to obey authorities and their laws and pay their taxes. If they are "unjust," we need to vote them out of office.
Thoughts and prayers for Ms. Fiorina on this subject that exists completely separate from the election.
Most wish for a speedy recovery. Many of us hope Carly wins the elections if for no other reason than a fresh face with some new ideas would be welcome.
For the bigots spewing nonsense like "We need to round up all of you teabagger morons into a single insane asylum where you will stay until hell freezes over or until you learn some common sense, which ever comes first." you need to check your bigotry at the door - there are knuckleheads in every party - clearly FaithBased is one of these.
Your attempts to marginalize millions of us because of what a few knuckleheads say, well, that's what you claim we do when anyone dare speak ill of Muslims.
A civil discussion seems impossible in these times.
Just wanted to add my two cents re Hooboy's comments below. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule, but I read every proposition from top to bottom before I make a decision on which way to vote. Yes, I do listen to all the propaganda ads that you cannot ignore during election time, but I do not let them influence my personal opinions.
As far as a political party, or candidate, I also do my homework there also. I am a registered Republican, but rarely do I vote a straight Republican ticket. I believe our two-party system is ready for a complete overhaul. There are too many issues facing our country that cannot be placed in a blue or red cubby-hole. Sometime the color of the cubby-hole might need to be green or even purple! And, I am not talking about the Tea Party!
Our way of thinking about government has to change also. I probably won't live long enough to see it happen, but it will happen. It has to happen for this country to survive as a first world country.
Carly, I wish you well. Had no idea you had been through such a horrible ordeal. Good luck with all your political endeavors.
Nothing but good hope for the lady, I don't agree with her philosophy especially on outsourcing but godspeed Carly.
I am pretty certain that I am glad that Faith's post was deleted based on some of the comments.
I am STILL voting for Fiorina because Boxer wants to grant amnesty to illegal aliens.
Boxer is way too liberal for me.
I DO agree that any tax breaks and incentives be given to business PROVIDED THEY HIRE AMERICANS IN THE UNITED STATES.
That HAS to be all of our mantra people.
I hope her infected tittys shivel up and fall off
Says Barbara Boxer campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski: "We wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery and hope she is able to return to her normal schedule soon." - Right AFTER the election.
Good catch Roy Wilson - post 1.51
Carianne, 68Namvet. You're welcome. I had to leave not long after posting my comment and I see it became a bit weird on here.
I am voting for Senator Boxer but wish Ms Fiorina the best of health.
Dear LoisB, what has Barbara Boxer done for you in the past 12 years?
What has Fiorina done , let see, drove HP into the ground, sent jobs overseas, was fired......shall I go on.
Vote Boxer.
Faith based - more ignorance
Still, nobody has told me anything that Boxer has done yet.
It's because of the onerous laws and taxes that HP (and many other companies) have moved jobs overseas. Boxer has never met a law or tax increase she hasn't liked.
A vote for Boxer is a vote for continued over-taxation and over-regulation and continued loss of jobs in this country.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Boxer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Boxer
Fiorina's highest ground is under a rock for outsourcing American jobs while at HP and contributing to the demise of middle class America......Vote for Barbara Boxer.
Thomas Jefferson must be rolling in his grave!
Wingman: Unless you live in California, please don't presume that you know what is best for us. I would rather give my vote to Brown, who has knowledge in how to deal with the state legislature, rather than a know-nothing business woman like Meg Whitman (another Arnie want-to-be). As for our mistakes, it wasn't our governor or Barbara Boxer that made them....it was our state legislature, which is run by Democrats, who, like in the Senate, are the "Party of No" in the State of California.
wingman: Up until the recession, California had sent more money to the Federal Government and gotten back less than any state in the union.
Jefferson - what exactly are those laws and taxes that FORCED these companies to offshore?
Or, is it perhaps the fact that NAFTA was passed under clinton that simply gave them the ok to do so?
What do the facts support? I know personally, having a brother who worked at Diamler Chrysler - a company that chose to offshore its labor, despite having to strike a deal with the unions - which required them to pay the union labor staff to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for X amount of years. When I asked my brother, why on earth would anyone make this move? Why would you pay workers to do nothing, while paying workers in china do the actual work - his answer: BECAUSE AFTER THESE UNION CONTRACTS EXPIRE, THEY'LL BE ROLLING IN THE DOUGH BECAUSE OF THE SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED LABOR COSTS.
So bottom line, they were willing to go into the negative for a bit, despite before making the move - not hurting when it came to profits - so that in the end, they'd be making insanely huge profits.
thats the tea bagger and republican business model - employ as few workers as possible, so that the ones at the tippy top can reap all the rewards. Its great for the few who benefit, horrible for a society as whole with no work to be found.
Wingman - the current governor of CA is a, you guessed it, Republican. Look at the state that they are now in!
@ Scott: Barbara Boxer was the only Senator with the cojones to challenge the second anointing of King Bush after discrepancies showed up in the Ohio voting process. For that, Barbara Boxer is (to me) a national hero.
A place with slave labor, where the people go home to die early and cheaply living in a toxic dump caused by unrestricted industrial pollution sounds like a great place to put your factory. This is why and to where the jobs are leaving
Now how is this Boxer's fault and what do you propose we do to compete?
Someone wrote that you have no voice here unless a California resident. How about a California native who's ran away?
Do you eat fruits or vegetables? Then you support illegal immigrants. Period.
Until you convert to a 100% meat diet then don't talk to me about illegals... oh wait... lots of illegals working in meat packing plants as well... shoot...
Fine, until you stop EATING then don't talk to me about illegals! Make a stand and FAST FOR FREEDOM!
(and by the way, I am still waiting to see the immigration papers from the Pilgrims... those sly border-jumping buggers)
... oh, and some candidate has cancer, apparently... GO USA!
Edward.
Repeal NAFTA, and all other Free trade treaties. And impose a tariff. It will bring the jobs back.
cdahl,
I agree with post #2.18. :-)
Barbara boxer has spent twelve years enriching herself with taxpayer dollars, contributing to trillions in waste, abuse, fraud and and an ever-expanding incompetent federal bureaucracy.
Carly is small potatoes in comparison to any in Congress of either party. I'll take a greedy capitalist any day over a lying thieving bureaucrat.
LoisB
Why in the world are you voting for a person WHO CARES LESS WHAT CALIFORNIANS WANT?
Check out the replies to your post.
I too would prefer a greedy capitalist because I don't have to worry about that one stealing MY MONEY to give to FREELOADERS.
Boxer continues to advocate amnesty and that is the ONLY reason I am voting for Fiorina.
To Jeffersonwasaslaveowner:
HP moved the jobs overseas because their labor cost was reduced from $20+ per hour to around $2+ per hour. It was done to maximize profits, share value, and dividends to the stockholders. HP does not, never has, and never will care about labor. And you can make this same statement about other US corporations. As long as American labor wants a wage that can support a family without having to live on credit, the jobs will never come back. Unless, of course, Chinese labor all of a sudden starts demanding $20 per hour. And we all know what happens when Chinese labor starts to rebel. Anybody still remember Tienemen (please excuse spelling) Square?
Jessica,
Since you asked, here goes, pay attention, it's kind of long...
I have work in the design and construction industry for 25 years. I have worked on public works projects (water, wastewater treatment plants) paid for with public funds; I have worked for private companies on privately funded projects; I have worked on public utility projects, funded by both private capital and ratepayer fees; and I have worked on development work, ie residential subdivisions, paid for by developers. I have worked with numerous government agencies on many different projects.
In almost all cases, before anything can be built, the Fed & State require that Environmental Impact Reports be prepared and distributed to the public for review and comment. In some of the larger projects, this process can take several years and hundreds of thousands of dollars (even a few million dollars on the multi-million $ projects) to prepare and respond to the public input. On one large public works project, this process cost $3.5 Mil. and took 5 years to complete.
The number of government agencies that can, and do, insert themselves into a project is mind-numbing. On one public works project we had five different government agencies visiting our project to monitor the same thing, it was our Storm Water Pollution Prevention efforts. There was the California Reqional Water Quality Control Board, the Central Valley Flood Protection Board, the City of Sacramento Dept of Utilities, Sacramento County Dept of Water Resources, and the State of California Dept of Water Resources. To add insult to injury, we had to pay for their time while they were on the job, on top of paying for one of our workers full time to do our own inspections and write all of the mandated reports (there is the regular weekly report, there is the "pre-storm" report, there is the "during the storm daily report", and there is the "post storm event report") and perform the maintenance on all of the protective devices installed all over the site.
One out of state contractor who was not familiar with the wacko environmental laws in California, was fined $100,000 for repeatedly tracking mud out onto a road and $25,000 for filling in a dried out vernal pool (which is basically a low spot in a field that has at some time held water and possibly some form of life).
On a subdivision job, the contractor was fined $25,000 for lack of dust control during earthwork activities. Meanwhile, the farmer down the road was kicking up 10-times the amount of dust plowing his fields but was not cited for a thing.
On another project, the owner was required to prepare 37 separate detailed management plans for review and approval by a multitude of agencies, there were visits by many of the agencies to confirm compliance. Here is just a sampling of the required reports:
That is not all of the reports either.
On another project, we submitted a report for review and approval and it took 22 months for the agency to approve it. Meanwhile, repeated calls yielded the similar answers, "I'll look into it", "the person you need to speak to is not in", "It was sent to Washington DC for review", "I don't like the tone of your voice, click", "It's not a high priority at this time", etc. With many of these government agencies, if you call them too much and actually expect them to do their job, it can get very nasty. They will be overly conservative in their review and analysis, or will lose the document or report in question.
Here's a partial list of some of the governmental and environmental laws that must be adhered to, each have their own rules and enforcement regulations. If some of the names look similar, they are, there is duplication by both Federal and State Agencies, but all must be adhered to and accounted for:
I had a friend who opened and auto repair shop. He purchased the land and built the building next to an existing street. To connect to the existing water main and sewer main in the street (probably about 30 feet away), he had to pay the local utility district (another quasi governent agency) for a permit, pay them to review his plan, pay them to inspect the installation done by a contractor he hired to do the work. His total cost was $56,000 from the utility district alone. When he questioned the cost, it took him 18 months to get the backup info detailing all of the costs, he disputed the costs and he got the bill cut by $24,000.
Where I live, the permit fees to build a regular size house, 2000 sf or so, were $67,000 back in 2006 (permit fees alone, nothing else, payable when you submit your building plans for review to the building dept). I don't know what they are today. I decided against building a new house.
What everyone doesn't realize, or seem to care about, is that we, the citizens and taxpayers are footing the bill for all of this excessive regulation. Either in the taxes and fees we pay directly to the government or indirectly in the added costs for everything we buy.
That is not to say that all of what I have mentioned is completely bad or wrong. My point is, there is way too much intervention and interference by government is everything we do and that has added billions in unnecessary costs to the businesses in California and the rest of the country.
The worst part of all of the regulation, is that what I mentioned above only has to do with the design and construction of a facility. I didn't mention all of the employment laws and regulations, or the insurance costs, the legal costs due to the trial lawyers walking in lockstep with the politicians.
It is exactly these reasons that businesses are leaving California and the USA. If a company does not make a profit, it won't survive, period.
If the government and the people want to encourage businesses to stay in this country then do something to help them stay. Like quit penalizing and vilifying them for wanting to be profitable. The unemployed typically don't hire many people.
------------------------------------------------------
As far as your little story about Diamler- Chrysler, if you disagree with the policies of any business, do not patronize that business, or feel free to send letters to the management, or strike in front of the business, or send letters to your local paper, tell all of your friends. If you get enough people to agree with you maybe you can get the business to change it's policies.
Finally, with regard to your comment about NAFTA, that only applies to trade and investment between the USA, Canada and Mexico (North American Free Trade Agreement, get it?). How much of HP outsourcing was to Mexico or Canada.
As far as NAFTA goes,And what is so wrong about strengthening our ties to our neighboring countries. If they are financially strong and sound and economically connected with us, won't they be a better neighbor? If Mexico had a better economy, we wouldn't have thousands of people risking their lives to come to this country.
So now that I said all this, I'm sure it doesn't matter to you in the slightest, because you have been brainwashed by Obama and the Socialists and will vote for Boxer and her ilk and if you get your way, the country will continue to decline.
Have a nice day and God Bless!
Hey EVERYONE - especially CALIFORNIANS!
Read Jeffersonwasright's post 2.23.
My head is SPINNING with all these GOVERNMENT AGENCIES.
Let's get rid of them and we can start by voting for Carly Fiorina!
I love the fact that people actually think that budget battles are run by Democrats in California. A common misconception among outsiders. In fact, due to the fact that Arnie is pretty conservative on budgets, and Prop 13's constitutional change requiring a 2/3 majority to pass a budget in the state, minority rules. In this case, the Republicans hold the upper-hand, because they can refuse to sign a budget until they either get what they want, or Democrats fold to them, which has happened almost ever since Arnold took office. One only need to research one Abel Maldonado to refresh their memory of how budgets are passed.
The cynic in me senses this is being a made a bigger deal of in the press only because she is running for office, and she is behind in the polls. But I do wish her a quick recovery, even though I won't vote for her.
Thanks for taking the time to write this. I never understood why some people thought guns were the only solution, but now I understand how someone could get there, whew!
At the same time I want clean water, etc. I guess that is why they call them problems, it they had easy answers, they would not be problems.
I am voting for Boxer ... buit wish here a speedy recovery
Wingman - is that all you can say? From your earlier post, I thought you had a bit more substance, lies maybe, but substance
Wingman - DOUCHE BAG!! Please note the double exclamation point for extra emphasis.
I won't vote for Fiorina (or Whitman for that matter), but I do wish her a fast recovery.
Our prayers are for good health for Carly, and the re-election of Sen. Boxer.
all you libs are thr same, your state bankrupt, your taxes is out of hand your driving business from your state and you say i like this give me more spending, give me more taxes. how that hope and change working for you all why am i trying to make ant sence of this see you all next week at the polls
Jockland - how sad that you spout the Tea Party rhetoric. I'm much happier with Obama than I ever are with Bush who killed, stole and just plain did nothing! But then, clearly you don't give a damn.
IDIOT!
Hey, jack(ass)land,
Learning to spell and using proper punctuation and grammar will go a long way towards getting your point across. The only thing I was able to deduce from your comment is a) you denegrate people of a liberal mindset, b) you assume that all the woes of the state, city, nation and world are caused by liberals, and c) your aren't even educated enough to form a complete sentence. If the likes of you constitute being anti-liberal, or even worse - CONSERVATIVE, then I'll side with the intellectual elite and so-called liberals any day.
You and everyone else like you only need look in one place to find the cause of all the woes you're experiencing in this country, whether it be the "illegals", too high taxes, too high spending, too much corporate greed, gays getting married (like anyone really cares - really!), not enough jobs, and all the other host of horrors you people get your panties in a twist about. And that place is...
a mirror.
You all complain about how bad things have gotten and how you want to "take back this country", but your uninformed views and repetition of lies, rumors and outright deceit because you're too lazy or stupid to actually take 5 minutes out of your pathetic existence to do just a little bit of research (that's reading for all you folks that might have difficulty with big words) to validate that whatever anyone has told you is true or not. There's a reason that it's called gospel. Because you have to believe that what is being told to you is true without question. That is the cornerstone of faith. Unfortuantely, that spills over into politics because you folks just take everything on faith without doing your homework. And that makes you enablers of those who unfortunately for the rest of us ARE smarter than you and manipulate you to their advantage so they can institute all the policies that benefit them while you, and consequently I, suffer. And all the while you people just eat it up and think you're doing the righteous thing by getting behind these power mongers, who according to that sacred tome you probably never even read yourself but had dictated to you by another power monger at the head of your congregation who just wants to keep you in line while he does whatever he wants (see a pattern here) are the false prophets and agents of the anti-christ warned about in Revelation. How ironic, and yet your ignorance and self-righteous indignation will bring everyone down with you.
If i had my way I'd make sure that the Constitution does not give everyone the right to vote just because they're a citizen. You should only be allowed to vote if you know what you're voting on. I would say the vast majority of the time people only vote based on name recognition, which is why political ads work so well - it's a lot like selling a product - repeat, repeat, repeat until the name sticks, and have no clue who individuals are or what they really represent. If that's the case, then why limit the voting to people 18 years or older? A child could just as easily vote that way as an adult. Our election process is a joke. And let's face it, when it comes down to real issues, do you really think people are taking the time to read all of the language fo the measures they're voting on? If they can't spend 5 minutes to validate that an Internet rumor is false, what hope is there that they'll have any clue at all what a measure is about on a ballot? I honestly think people are either just guessing, or they're voting what other people - people who they think are more "qualified" than themselves - have told them.
That's not democracy. That's just laziness. We should be better than that. I think if the voting process required pre-qualification in order for someone to cast a ballot, we would actually get a government much more closely aligned with the will of the people.
Now how can you argue with logic like that?
"Killed, stole and just plain did nothing"?
Liberal reasoning is for liberals only.
CAN I GET A WITNESS???
Talk about a statement that deserves an "amen" at the end.
THANK YOU, Hooboy.
Thank you Hooboy. Finally someone who is at least somewhat educated reading these postings.
Let's work together to make this a better place to live.
Come on, you can't claim Bush did nothing. He lied to us about WMDs and played a lot of golf. He took more vacation time than any president in history. But that's okay, since Cheney ran things, anyway. Cheney and Rove.
Oh, I wouldn't say Bush did nothing.
Using the brilliant marketing slogan "The War on Terror" he literally scared people out of their wits and setup two of the biggest scams in history, the "free fraud zones" of Iraq and Afghanistan. He slipped trillions of taxpayer dollars to his buddies out of sight in two rat holes half way around the world.
Now the same party that setup this scam to funnel trillions to real scum has the nerve to declare spending hundreds of billions, much less, to build bridges, keep teachers teaching, etc - in other words for Americans in America during the worst recession since the Great Depression as "big government" and "a socialist takeover" and are winning using this.
These guys are masters of political propaganda, look at their success. Of course, nobody before had a dedicated news outlet, Fox News to put out the propaganda before.
Frankly, this is a breathtaking accomplishment, even beyond that of Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, who was the American banker forthe Nazi during WWII until his bank was closed for "trading with the enemy". Somebody needed to make sure the American companies that didn't let a little thing like a war interfere with business got paid.
These are the same type business interests that are spending jaw dropping amounts of anonymous money to sell the Republican Propaganda, thanks to a Supreme Court ruling that makes it possible. This is the Supreme Court that Bush created, where it's members go to secret strategy planning sessions where only the CEO's of the largest corporations are invited.
Hooboy,
Maybe you should tell that to Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Socialist Democrats in Congress who voted for Obamacare. When she was asked if she had read the bill, she said, "No, we need to pass it first to see what's in it."
A vote for Boxer, Pelosi, Obama and the Democrats is a vote for Socialism. Socialism is not sustainable and if allowed to continue, it will be the end of this country.
Less Government + Less Taxes = More Prosperity + More Freedom for All
Not my candidate, but wish her well...
I am going to be brutally honest.
This is an truly evil woman who has done incrediable harm to many, many people to provide herself with jets, a huge yacht, and hundreds of millions of dollars and didn't care one bit. She has run the companies she worked for into the ground because she didn't care about them either. She cares about nothing but herself.
She could die a slow, painful death and I would not care either. There I said it, sorry , but it is the truth.
Don't sink to their level, Edward.
Just being honest, not posing saying what makes me look good. To much of that going on around here.
I feel a lot of people post just to think that Glenn Beck would give them a pat on the head for what they said, not that it is true or informative.
I've already voted for Boxer. I wish Fiorina well though I dislike what she did at HP and what she stands for in public life.
You disliked what she did at HP? She was the CEO and her job was to make money for the share holders. Her job was to do what was best for HP. Every CEO has to make tough decisions when coming to hiring and laying off workers. Carly did her job. Boxer has never made a payroll or ran a business, even her home town newspaper, the most liberal paper in CA, refused to endorse her. Boxer has done nothing for California.
The Board of Directors of HP wasn't all that happy with her either.
sfcret
Well, shareholders might disagree with her since the value gained 20% on news that she was canned. And if you think 'outsourcing' 20,000+ American jobs overseas is a winning strategy,...you are in for a very big surprise when Middle Class Americans can no longer buy your products and you can't price them competitively in the global market due to the Corporate gluttony of taking their's off the top.
The view from those who work here in the Colorado HP offices don't think she did her job well as CEO.
California gets what it deserves if it votes boxer back in.... A state that is on the verge of total implosion.
I'm not sure too many people inside HP cried too much at the departure of her successor either. They export jobs almost reflexively. It wouldn't stun me if those HR yahoos in a quota making frenzy mistakenly "offshored" the entire janitorial staff at their headquarters.
That said, I wish Ms. Fiorina a speedy and full recovery.
Wingman...
We are all delighted to see you have mastered the art of copy and paste. Please add something to the mix that is intelligent, or stop posting.
Thank you from this newsvine reader!
What do you know about Carly Fiorina's success at HP, or do you even know she was successful there?
Not only was Fiorina, terminated at HP, prior to that she tanked Lucent Technologies! Stock valued went to half after she took a huge $$$ parchute to leave and go to HP! Do your research on what her "business skills" are, she inflates the value of the company and then makes a quick exits with bundles of cash!
Sfcret "She was the CEO and her job was to make money for the share holders. Her job was to do what was best for HP. Every CEO has to make tough decisions when coming to hiring and laying off workers. Carly did her job."
but can you explain to me how this is good for America and its people? this election is supposedly about jobs...yet, every "business person" out there touting their record and wanting to be elected has only 1 record - OFFSHORING AND SHEDDING JOBS...not creating them.
Id like to buy the trickle down theory that with more money in rich peoples pockets, they'll create new enterprises and thusly create more jobs...and so goes the theory of trickle down economics, however, thats not what happens in reality. Rather than creating new businesses they simply gamble on wall street - seeking the quicker return on investment - and often bigger. Or, they gobble up little companies - shed their workforce, streamline the process and VOILA - they are even more rich!
Yet, im not certain - as a nation - how thats good long term.
Can someone explain?
so another words you love being taxed and you dont like people who create jobs and want to work , and have an education and want to work, you are for hand outs and welfare then boxer is for you thats why ileft cali and went to idaho and opened my own business that never could have done in cali that place sucks
maybe we should write in tom cruise for office:}-prayers are with you c. fiorina get well fast-
hooboy get a life-this countries constitution has worked for over 200 years-you are ranting like a caveman-big words don't mean ____unless you know how to use them. and then we are taken advantage of again-with big words-
Fionia never created one job, but destroyed tens of thousands.
The people who came you with and built products people wanted created the jobs, the same people she fired "to save money" while she provided herself with six jets, a huge yacht, a hundred million compensations scheme. Her downfall was tapping phones and reading emails of reporters and her own board when some news stories came out about her incompetency.
Can't you recognise scum when you see it? Have you been so sold on ideology that everything business and the people who run them do is good? That the "invisible hand of capitalism" always does the right thing in the best, most efficient way possible ranks right up there with Unicorns and Pixie Dust when it comes to the facts.
Before you come back at me, read Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" - the bible of capitalism. He says it is often in the capitalist's interest to deceive and oppress the public and the public needs to take steps to protect itself. Adam Smith, the creator of capitolist theory, sounds more like a Democrat than a Republican on this.
California will be fine and we don't need a bunch of red state supporters (who take OUR money) to tell us what is good and bad. Most of what you think you know about California is bull. Not that we don't have problems like the rest of the country, but we are smart enough to tell the baggers to piss off.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I totally agree with your comment. Every single one of the RED states gets more federal tax money than they pay in, which means other states get less than they pay in federal tax money.
Next to each state is how much money they get back for every dollar in federal taxes they pay in; 1. New Mexico, $2.03 2. Mississippi, $2.02, 3. Alaska, $1.84, 4. Louisiana, $1.78, 5. West Virginia, $1.76, 6. North Dakota, $1.68, 7. Alabama, $1.66, 8. South Dakota, $1.53, 9. Kentucky, $1.51, 10. Virginia, $1.51.
Basically, the blue and bluish-purple states are largely subsidizing many of the red states, which have been run into the ground by Republicans over the years. Then next time a right winger becomes enraged at the very thought that an undocumented immigrant pregnant woman might have a child in a California hospital, remind him that California taxpayers spend a hell of a lot more of their tax money effectively subsidizing their states, because their right wing leadership can't lift their states out of the economic dark ages. Red state Tea Partiers/Republicans from "welfare" Red States should stay out of ALL of the Blue and Purple state elections.
sfcret,
You conveniently omitted the fact that Senator Boxer's Hometown Newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, did NOT ENDORSE EITHER CANDIDATE. From your use of words, one would think they endorsed Fiorina.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/09/26/EDCL1F4PRK.DTL
The problems in California, as in almost all of the rest of the country come from the economic collapse caused by de-regulation of banking and Wall St.
This was not a result of Liberal policies, it was a result of the Republican mantra of "lower taxes, let corporations do whatever they want, cut social programs" we have followed for 30 YEARS ever since Reagan. The days of Liberal policies, the Great Society and The New Deal are ancient history.
But let's extend the tax cuts that were in effect when the economy collapsed and cut social programs during a recession. That is best for Americans, no question.
Really looking forward to the great things this Republican magic will produce. Think another 30 is to soon to hope for?
The problem is a place with slave labor that dies young and cheap in toxic waste dumps caused by unrestricted industrial polution is a great place to manufacture.
Now tell me how we compete with that and you will be dealing with the real issue, not BS.
For all of you that complain and try and point out Carly's record at HP try and tell me why Boxer will be better for CA. Tell us what Boxer has done constructively for CA, besides help ruin the economy with her left wing agenda. Tell me why she refused to support the valley farmers and refused to join with Senator Feinstein to get the water turned on. Why did she take the side of a one inch smelt fish over hundreds of farm employees and thousands of acres of farm land. Some one above mentioned that CA paid out more to the federal government than they got back. Maybe it was because Boxer wasn't doing her job, just like the SF Chronicle said when they refused to endorse her. Also Boxer has one of the most liberal voting record in the Senate, she has blindly supported everything Obama wanted. It time for a complete change in Washington and one of the best ways is to have a split government, it saved Clinton maybe, if he will get over his ego, it will help Obama.

Well, I guess I am the odd man out. I voted for Fiorina because Boxer is the same/same. Any change has to be for the better.
Momlags: Like much of the right's rhetoric, your catch phrase, "...any change has to be for the better...", sounds good until you think about it.
Any change does not have to be for the better. It can always get worse. I wasn't a huge Clinton fan, but there's little doubt that Bush was worse...much worse.
I wasn't a huge Bush fan but the change we got with Obama is worse...much much much worse.
Thinking about it is not on their agenda. Their rhetoric is as thin as a bumper sticker.
OK wing(nut)man,
You basically played your hand. Saying to others who actually live in this state that we don't know much about the economy from someone who advocates giving the state to Mexico (huh?) clearly shows your understanding of economic issues and the US economy in general. Here's a lesson for ya:
The state of California alone is the 8th largest economy in the WORLD
California has the largest economy of any state in the US
California accounts for 13% of the GDP for the entire US
The federal taxes generated by California taxpayers provide funding for a lot of smaller states
If California were to secede from the US, the United States would go bankrupt
So given that, your somments are completely without fact or substance. In fact, unless you live in California, YOUR tax dollars never even come here because we pay out more in taxes than we receive in benefits from the federal government. So really I should be complaining about you. MY tax dollars are being sent to YOUR state so you can complain about how bad my state is because we don't think like you. There are many things that factor into a financial crisis for any government, and unfortuantely, comments like yours and mass ignorance do have an effect, especially when you all band together and bleet loud enough to turn the ears of those looking to get re-elected.
You mentioned pot smoking a lot in your post. My guess is you're one of those who rails about the evils of pot smoking without ever having tried it. And that's the real problem. If people like you would just chill out and smoke a doobie once in a while, the world would be a much better place. But instead you choose to spread your ignorance like religion and get mad when others choose not to choke on the sacrament of your stupidity.
There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. Truer words were never spoken. Look it up. I know you have the book.
Momlags,
Or worse.
obama change ? how's that working out for all of you nim rods who voted for that dumb idiot who we call president now . get a clue he is in it for himself and those two little monkeys he calls kids
Hooboy,
I don't believe you. You simply made those points up.
The state of California alone is the 8th largest economy in the WORLD
Wrong:
The 8th largest economy in the world is actually the logging industry in Brazil.
California has the largest economy of any state in the US
Wrong:
California is ranked 19th, well behind Texas, Virginia, North Dakota, New Jersey, Michigan...
California accounts for 13% of the GDP for the entire US
Wrong:
California accounts for less than .052% of the GDP of the entire US. This is less than Rhode Island.
The federal taxes generated by California taxpayers provide funding for a lot of smaller states
Wrong:
California actually generated less than $600,000 in federal taxes for the last 17 years combined after deducting re-imbursments to California's federal employees. This would not pay the leaf raking costs for one month in New Hampshire.
If California were to secede from the US, the United States would go bankrupt
Wrong:
If California were to succeed instead of secede, the United States would still be bankrupt, but the west coast would still have pretty good ganja. (Behind Hawaii and Alaska)
TROLL
Bob Miller - racist @!$%#.
Any change has to be better? Isn't that what the Germans said after the Weimar Republic didn't address their needs?
That's got to be the dumbest reason to vote FOR someone I have ever heard. If you don't like Boxer and you don't like Fiorina...then pass on that box on the ballot and move on to vote for something you believe in
JC in G
and all the other "facts" in your post. Stating something like it was a fact doesn't make it one.
I know you and the people you probably hang around with are used to just beleiving anything anyone says, but this isn't Fox News and you aren't Glenn Beck, so statements that are wrong on the surface to anyone who stops and thinks for a moment and doesn't just swallow them won't fly here.
Go back to the "No Fact Zone" where wishing it was so makes it so. It's much easier to promote your views there.
AHH, So you do see my point.
What Hooboy had to say was nothing based on facts.
Statements that are wrong on the surface:
The state of California alone is the 8th largest economy in the WORLD
Think about that one for just a minute. Hmmm
Any Senator who diciplines a serviceman and thinks she is better than they are will NOT get my vote. Barbara Boxer is RUDE!
JC in G, Hooboy's source was Wikipedia. The article has been flagged as being possibly out of date (July 2009 flag)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California
Any change has to be for the better? That's your criteria? What about the candidate's stand on the issues? Their leadership capability? Integrity?
Here is another source that says CA is 8th in the world. http://econpost.com/californiaeconomy/california-economy-ranking-among-world-economies
adidas 503
Good Job! Checking a source! My hat is off to you, wish there were more people like you around.
If you put "The state of California alone is the 8th largest economy in the WORLD" exactly this into Google ( try it yourself ) you get 89,300 results.
Results where it is presented as a fact by numerous reputable sources.
Wilipedia is not the best source, but what he said checks out.
See how easy it is to fact check? Now let's all do on what people post.
JC in G,
Great Post (#7.7)! Thanks for the levity at the end. Too little of that on here.
Fiorina's got my vote!
Texas' GOP leaders, their eyes on the Nov. 2 election, have played down the problem's size, even as the hole in the next two-year cycle has grown in recent weeks to as much as $24 billion to $25 billion. That's about 25 percent of current spending.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/1024dntexbudgetmess.274b11d.html
Go, Carly! You have the leadership qualities to keep Boxer in her corner. It's time for your fresh ideas to take center ring in California. Godspeed!
Iowa - I wish her well but she has no leadership qualities. That's why she got canned!
Wingman - the governor of CA is a Republican!!! Yes, a left-leaning Republican, but a Republican none the less.
Also read hooboys post above. i do know that it is a lot for you to digest, but maybe 1 fact?
hooboy has smoked one to many doobies i suspect. are you serious about the usa going bk if cali goes down that place is horriable . tax tax tax and more tax how's that working out i suspect it's not
I am sincerely praying for your full recovery.Good luck.
I give my vote to Senator Boxer. All the Best to you!!
I wish her well and hope she defeats Boxer. We need someone who can improve the country rather than feed the ego of a self-centered Boxer.
Hey BobHH, maybe Carly can outsource the California polititians too!
Breast cancer is an insidious disease. Regardless of her politics, I wish Ms Fiorina well and hope that she recoves her strength and health. But doesn't get elected.
As with all the above, I wish Carly Fiorina well. Enough said.
As someone who already voted by mail for Barbara Boxer, I would like to wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery.
If this was happening to Boxer, it would not be reported.
Of course it would be. As an elected senator, her schedule is
a matter of public record. Do you seriously think a
hospitalization would be ignored?
You're insane. Of course it would be.
I never knew Fiorina had breast cancer till I saw her on in an interview with a new, very short hairdo. Was that a big news item in CA?
I think people generally like healthy candidates (John McCain & melanoma) and find it hard to believe they weren't able to keep the lid on this infection so close to the election.
She showed up at some of here appearance practically bald and was totally forthright about her diagnosis from the get-go. I appreciate her candor about her health.
That being said, I hope Boxer wins. The last thing we need is another reactionary right-winger in the senate - and Fiorina is totally reactionary.
Went down this road with my Mom several years ago - her original surgery went great, but she too developed an infection after the reconstructive surgery, then a reaction to the antibiotics on top of that, the implants had to be removed, and what should have been three days in the hospital turned into over three weeks. These treatment decisions are never easy, but in the long run, Mom came out of it okay and I wish the same for Ms. Fiorina. I admire her for keeping the schedule she has for the last 18 months - I may not agree with her politics, but can't deny her strength. Good luck, Carly.
Sorry to hear of this bump in the road, which I am sure frustrates her at this point in her life, however, you must take care of YOU first. We all agree on that. Best of everything for you both medically and in the elections.
This is an obvious ploy by candidate Fiorina to bid for a sympathy vote because she is behind in the race.
Sadly, that was my gut reaction, too. An image of Hilary crying in New Hampshire flashed before my eyes.
I know that says a lot about my pessimism with politics.
I do wish her well, but not in DC.
Wow...."obvious ploy"..."for a sympathy vote"....disgusting.
@ Clara -- it actually says even more about you.
viveisrael - Not cool man.
I don't like Fiorina but I don't think this was a ploy and I do wish her a speedy recovery.
Best wishes to Carly, but if this is a ploy for votes, I'm very disappointed that she would resort to Dem tactics.
She has cancer and that is terrible.
She is also a politician and spends every waking moment during an election thinking of what she can do to get elected and how the voters will react to anything she does. Most women on chemo who need to "keep up appearances" wear a wig and most people don't know they are on chemo. Showing up "almost bald" is a politician trying to get a sympathy buzz going. It would be stupid to miss that way to get some votes and it is stupid not to recognise it for what it is.
and you are just as rude as Barbara Boxer
I am a voter and if taking a hard, sceptical look at what a politician does and why is rude, so be it. If you run for office you should expect and you should get some harsh questions, so don't apologise and try to protect her.
Sometimes things need to be said that are rude, like if you are Chairwoman of a Committee and need to have the position treated with respect and addressed as "Senator" rather than "Ma'am". Is that "rude like Boxer" you are meaning?
Civilians need to remind the military who is in charge and demand to be shown respect, it is part of the Constitutional relationship that needs to be maintained. Nothing personal I am sure.
Ms. Fiorina is the first real positive on the CA scene to give us a chance to get our from under the heel of a radical leftist like Boxer. I hope she has a speedy recovery and I pray for her election victory or the rest of us are doomed to the Boxer/Feinstein/Obama /Franks/Pelosi gang strategy to demolish America !
Goldshine, do you even understand the difference between federal and state governmental functions? CA is upside down because of the taxpayers' revolution.
We must remember that politicians will tell us anything to get elected. One new candidate alone can not make changes. If you want to see real change, they all must be replaced. We must be informed and vote for the best candidate regardless of the party they are a member of.
I don't see what's radical about supporting equal access to health care, public education, stem cell research, abortion rights, and protection of our environment. We'd be better of with a lot more Boxers in the senate.
Bob Pomeroy,
Ca is upsidedown because of the reckless spending by the State Government, primarily the Democratic monopoly (No, Arnold is not a Republican, he is a RINO!). The unions that control the state (SEIU, the Teachers Union, the Peace Officers and Correctional Peace Officers Unions, as well as all the other "Bargaining Units"), refuse to allow any meaningful reform, or reduction in the size and spending of the State Government.
The only real taxpayer revolution is the one where those who are actually paying the taxes are fleeing the state in droves. That is evidenced by the drop in registered Republicans in CA, which will only hurt those of us who unfortunately are still living here and are still paying for most of the Socialist programs and bloated government. Believe me, we are weighing our options and looking at relocation opportunities as well.
Jeffersonwasright
I am an unapologetic liberal Democrat. But that doesn't stop me from seeing what the public workers unions have done by buying influence.
I also see what corporations are doing the same way. They want to get rid of ALL government restrictions and we saw how well that worked for banking and Wall St.
Money in politics always causes good for the people with the money and bad for the public. This isn't a Liberal/Conservative Democrat/Republican issue, this is something for all Americans to do worry about.
Edward Bruce Willams,
I disagree that ALL corporations want to to get rid of ALL government restrictions. That's naive and untrue. All successful businesses understand that a certain amount of regulation is necessary and at times beneficial. The problem is the excessive and redundant regulations in many industries and the number of both State and Federal agencies that a business must be aware of and be knowledgeable about.
Also, there was (and still is) plenty of government regulation on banking and Wall St. One of SEC's main functions is supposed to be oversight of the financial institutions. The SEC did not do their job during the packaging & selling of the bad homes loans that contributed to the financial melt down, they did not fully understand what was being sold and did not require the proper disclosure of what was actually in the instruments sold. Yet, to my knowledge, no was disciplined or fired. To make matters worse, OBama and the Democrats created a new agency to allegedly do what the SEC should have been doing all along. So we have an existing agency continuing to be funded and a new agency being created. The net result is an increase in costs for financial institutions, which all investors will have to pay for and there is no track record that anything will change.
I agree the funding of elections is a very complicated issue. I do not know what the solution is either, and I agree that it is something all Americans need to worry about.
Have a nice day and God Bless.
viveisrael - you are an IDIOT!!!
How many years has Boxer been "in there" and how bad have things become in California and the rest of the nation during that time? The faster we get rid of this decades-old promoter of socialism, the faster we have a chance to move our state and country in the right direction. Good luck to Fiorna for a prompt healing, and good luck to her for prevailing in this election!
"Lower taxes, let corporations do what they want, cut social programs"
This is the Republican solution to all problems and EXACTLY what we have been doing for 30 YEARS without stop, ever since Reagan. The days of the liberal Great Society and the New Deal are ancient history.
You pull this ancient history out like Bogey men to scare people, but what we have TODAYis an economic crisis caused by de-regulation and letting the bankers and Wall St do whatever gets them the next bonus, screw America and it's people.
So when does this magic formula start to work? After the next election? After another 30 YEARS?
What has Boxer in the 28 years she has been in the Senate?
I'm a life long Californian and I know of nothing she has done.
Vote Fiorina its a time for change. Am I the only one tired of CA being rediculed?
I suggest you check out a few websites that list Ms. Boxer's accomplishments in the House and Senate. And I haven't noticed anyone ridiculing California recently - did you mean Arizona?
No offense ED. I'm sure your cool but people like me who live in the Midwest think "you guys" in California have lost "it" a long time ago and yeah sometimes I'll say America should just annex California and let them get by, by themselves. We'd be better off. Got to get away from all the Liberalism and Progressives. It's killing your state!!!
How's the Wall St and Banking de-regulation working out in yours?
Great they got a bailout....did you?
"A bailout" - oh, you mean hundreds of billions spent to build bridges, keep teachers teaching - money spent in America for Americans during the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression as opposed to trillions funneled to scumbag contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan? To build water and power plants there using $100/gallon gas and $75 for a load of laundry to Halliburtian?
I supose you beleive giving trillions to military contractors, etc is fine, but spending any money on hurting Americans in America is "Big Government" and "a socialist takeover"?
Political Propaganda is amazing stuff, you can get people to believe and says the most amazing things if you do it right. The same people who setup the scam in Iraq and Afghanistan are now campaigning on stopping "wasteful government spending" - and nobody is blinking an eye, at least not on the right.
I will vote for her as the alternative is about as poor of a representative for the citizens of the U.S. as it gets. Boxer is bought and paid for by the Unions who do not represent me or my family other than to make me pay more taxes...I hope she gets well soon and defeats boxer!!!!
Hey Ed and Michael----I was just wondering if you voted for the current CA. governor, to have a change and wrestle CA back from the democrats?
How's that working for ya?
I don't care what Carly did at HP, Lucent or any other company. As long as she helps stop the Obama Agenda. "That's" ALL I care about. It doesn't take a rocket science to know Obama and his minions are just Plain Anti-American and terrible news for America. Take your Socialism elsewhere it's NOT wanted here!!!
Erich
Please express the Obama agenda. The TP types bellow " give me my country back" before Obama did anything. Give it back from what. You are insightful, exactly what is the agenda? Please provide specific details.
Erich, you wouldn't know what Socialism is if it hit you in the face. You've really got to turn off Glen Beck and try....try....to read some stuff and then try...try....to think for yourself.
I'm a Libertarian (a REAL one - not a Ron Paul Libertarian) which makes me much more socially liberal than most and fiscally conservative than most. And even I understand what Obama is trying to do. I don't think he has the right people to doing it (Timothy Geitner for one), but he is on the right track.
Oh....and he really isn't Unamerican Erich. He really isn't. I suggest that your REAL problem with Obama is that he is black. When all is said and done....that's what's going on here.
This is one of the most intelligent and successful business women in the history of America. She put her heart, soul and money into her campaign to restore California to solvency. Best wishes Carly.
She is very astute and it is terrible that she has an infection.
However, her actions at HP are just MBA cookie-cutter style. HP's innovations are just fine with or without her.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjayK62XBCE She outclasses Boxer by a mile- this is a parody of her "Don't call me ma'am" gaff.
Not only was Fiorina terminated at HP, prior to that she tanked Lucent Technologies! Stock valued went to half after she took a huge $$$ parchute to leave and go to HP! Do your research on what her "business skills" are, she inflates the value of the company and then makes a quick exits with bundles of cash!
This is a response to Cyrstal's response - I've read the transcript of Ms. Boxer's "don't call me Ma'am" statement, and it went soemthing like "I've worked hard at being a senator and earned my title, and I don't hear you calling the rest of the (male) senators anything but "Sanator XX", so please accord me the same coutesy." She was right on, and if she hadn't stood up for being properly addressed people would have thought her a wimp.
I use pretty much the same approach when somebody calls me "Mrs" instead of "Dr."
Anyone outside of Calif. thinks of her as a moron. Look at what she's done in the YEARS she has been in charge- the state is bankrupt and having to give out IOU's, sheesh!
The state is bankrupt like the whole country when the Republicans de-regulated banking and Wall St and they plundered and looted - sheesh!
You are a very sad human being. To say such a horrible thing about anyone fighting any disease is to show your real character! Good Luck Carly and I for one will be voting for you.
daisyp - First of all, if you had actually read the article you would know that she isn't fighting any disease. She's fighting an infection from her reconstructive surgery. She no longer has breast cancer. Your overly emotional and sympathetic response really makes me wonder if Fiorina did this as a PR stunt. Sympathy is a great persuader and (unfortunately) women pull that card out all the time at the 11th hour!! I do not want someone like Fiorina representing me as a woman...she's catty, greedy and ruthless!!
I am sorry- but the timing of this ?????????? May nature take its course and all - of course - hope NO ONE - is further harmed by this horrible disease. Yet an operative wrote this as he - ever so subtly- said she would "defeat Sen. Boxer. This is why people are sick of politics- as NOTHING - EVEN BREAST CANCER- IS SACRED! IF IT WERE YOU? WOULD YOU EXPLOIT YOUR VERY PRIVATE HEALTH CONCERNS? ARE YOU CONSIDERATE OF YOUR FAMILY WHEN YOU DO SO? A sad state of affairs- quite unworthy of the sacred confines of THE UNITED STATES SENATE! ... BUT A TRY.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was suspicious of the timing on this announcement...it really sounds like a PR stunt...and a very good one because who wouldn't feel bad for someone that had breast cancer...right?! The ole' sympathy vote trick...
how sick you are!
