O'Donnell talks about her faith, double standard

In an interview with CBN's David Brody, Delaware Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell (R) talked about her Christian faith and how it has shaped her candidacy:

God is the reason that I’m running. If I didn’t believe that there were a cause greater than myself worth fighting for, if I didn’t believe that it takes a complete dying of self to make things right in this Election cycle I would not be running and when you die to yourself you rely on a power greater than yourself so prayer is what’s gotten us all through. The day that we saw a spike in the polls was a day that some people had a prayer meeting for me that morning for this campaign so I believe that prayer plays a direct role in this campaign and I always ask please pray for the campaign; please pray for our staff; please pray specifically that the eyes of the voters be opened.

And here she is discussing at what she sees as a double standard in how her campaign has been covered:

There’s certainly a double standard. And I don’t often quote Gloria Steinem, but she said you can look at a double standard if they wouldn’t attack the male opponent that way and there’s no doubt that they wouldn’t say the things they’re saying about me, they wouldn’t do the things that they’re doing if I weren’t a woman. I’m not whining but there certainly is a double standard especially when it comes to conservative woman.”

So O'Donnell and her entourage prayed and God forcibly changed the minds of Delaware voters?

When you 'die to yourself', not much happens any more.

WTF is this person talking about most of the time, anyway???

Harry Reid. Same question.

The Liberals certainly have their "shiny thing" to stare at with O'Donnell. She just fascinates the Libs. But while the Libs are so enamored with her, the rest of the states are working on tossing out the Democrats. Wisconsin, Indiana , Illinois, Ohio are all trending to the GOP for the Senate. Don't hear the Libs showing any interest in hearing what those GOP candidates that are winning have to say.

So keep your hatred pinned on O'Donnell Libs. It's just one state, and you're losing in so many of the others.

The Inquistion, let's begin!
The Inquistion, look out sin!
We have our mission to convert the Jews!
Je, Je, Je, Je, Je, Jews...!
We're going to teach them, wrong from right!
We're going to help them, see the light!
And make and offer they they can't refuse -
That the Jews just can't refuse!

Confess, don't be boring!
Say yes, say yes, don't be dull!
A fact, you're ignoring -
it's better to lose your skull cap than your skull, oy oy gevalt!

The Inquistion, what a show!
The Inquisition, here we go!
We know you're wishing that we go away!
But the Inquisition is here and it's here to stay~

The Inquisition, oh the fun!
The Inquisition, what a joy!
The Inquisition, oy oy oy~

Honey i think you got it wrong on the hatred thing, libs don't hate O'Donnell. i think its the opposite, libs like here because she keeps putting her foot in her mouth, and it has lead to the fact dems will keep the senate because of her. its karl Rove and bill O that hates her. i don't see cantor or bohner having a parade for her in Delaware either.

Oh, the Protestants hate the Catholics,
And the Catholics hate the Protestants,
And the Hindus hate the muslems,
And everybody hates the Jews.

But during national brotherhood week, national brotherhood week,
It's national everyone-smile-at-one-another-hood week.
Be nice to people who
Are inferior to you.
It's only for a week, so have no fear.
Be grateful that it doesn't last all year!

Why do progressive democrats ......mock, scorn and ridicule religion?

Unless your Muslim.

Then they mock, scorn and ridicule anyone that is sensitive about a victory mosque being built where their loved were killed, or anyone who gets nervous about boarding airplanes with men in Muslim garb.

As a Democrat, I am "progressive" on some issues, "centrist" on other issues, and downright "conservative" on other issues. I would like Madison from NY or any other to-the-right-leaning cretin to explain to me how being a Democrat equals being a Communist. I am at a loss. I believe in the democtratic system, one person equals one vote, and no one has a right to bully another to vote or think a particular way. My vision of democracy allows everyone the right to speak up without fear of bodily harm or damage to property. I also believe the 2nd amendment gives me the right to protect myself, my family, and my home, from those fringies who threaten violence because I disagree with them. It is the ultra conservatives who are threatening to overthrow our Democracy with the goal of replacing it with absolute tyranny.

Magnificent50, it is part of their narrative to conflate things that are not the same so that they can scare the low information voters. Many of those using those words on here are actually some of those low information voters who know not what they speak. My advice is to ignore them, if you can. If you take them seriously, you are in danger of raising your blood pressure. If you want a little fun, you can also bait them and watch them twitch. A former poster on here who did it all of the time called it 'the bait and twitch' method.

I am having a little trouble with your assessment of the qualifications. Please direct all of us to where in the Constitution it mentions, the education and professional requirement.

PROFESSIONAL is the problem in D.C. The founders never intended to have PROFESSIONAL politicians.

You should know some things if you're running but, IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT is all I'm getting at.

How would you know what they meant? Where you there? The man made a comment and as usual you throw your liberal drivel at him.

Since everyone interpret the Constitution the way that suits them; I say they meant for representation to be from the common farmer, banker, etc....that truly understand the need of their particular constituents. What is good in illinois may not be good in Texas.

I see, so, the general consensus among you lot is to have someone without any comprehension of the office or the duties assigned to it within that office.

I imagine you'd all be just fine hiring someone without any certifications or training to operate a back-hoe on a construction site, too. Maybe pull a hobo or two off the street to head up human resources or fulfill a needed role as a safety manager? Hah, who doesn't want Fingers the shifty-eyed drifter assuring OSHA compliance at a work site?

I suppose it'd be pointless to suggest that we should seek qualified candidates who aren't tainted by corruption since y'all are willing to confuse qualified with corrupt and dumber than a can of refried beans with a great, morally-forthright candidate.

Way to avoid the issue. (And prove my point) Christine O'Donnell claims she is judged by a different standard than if she were liberal. I am pointing out two liberal women who have come in for more than their share of personal attacks: Hillary and Ms. Pelosi.

The fact that Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi are women of accomplishment and Christine O'Donnell isn't, just adds to the irony they have been targeted for ridicule as much as the self-professed former "witch."

You hit the nail on the head with this comment. If you are a smart influential woman you are demonized even by people in your own party.

If you are an airhead you are made fun of even by your own party.

It's tough being an everyday woman. I can't even imagine being in politics. Because of this I admire all women in politics with power and influence. This admiration is limitted to non airheads of course. Go Pelosi! Go Hillary! Go Olympia! Go Susan!

Well, chilled we do know that the RICH, WHITE, SLAVE OWNING, old men were not intending in one document for sure, that'd be the Constitution.

The 13th Amendment abolished slavery, the 14th Amendment defines citizenship and protects a person's civil and political rights in response to the Black Codes.

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence; for life, liberty, and happiness; yet he had slaves. I agree you're right only a witch would know about that. He and George Washington are 2 of my favorite President. Jefferson freed Sally Hemmings children and Washington freed all of his.

But, we have all this Fake Constitutionalist tea bagger candidates who want to repeal the 14th and 17th amendments of the Founding Fathers they so admire.

One could get an idea about what the founders were thinking by reading the many biographies, auto-biographies (Jefferson wrote one), The Federalist Papers and history books that covered that period of time. Or is that expecting too much?

For bonus points, who actually 'wrote' The Constitution? Who was the person that, like Jefferson did with the Declaration of Independence, took the notes and decisions that were made and put them into a single document? Anyone? Bob? JS1? Soldier1? ITM? Anyone? (You're disqualified, ED, it wouldn't surprise me if you knew the answer and even how to spell the guy's name.)

Chris Coons is an intelligent, thoughtful articulate candidate. He doesn't get the press that Ms. O'Donnell receives unfortunately. But if you listen to him, you can see that he is well qualified for United States Senator.

I voted for Christine today! We need someone in the Senate who knows how to pray. By the way, Coon's condesending debating skills were quite evident in the debate I watched. Just the type of personality we need in Washington. Plus, I voted for CHANGE! I don't want someone who will be a rubber stamp of the backroom deals, earmark bribes, and the irresponsible spending of this Congress. If I recall, Obama promised to put an end to business as usual in Congress - Yes We Can!

                      @JoAnne

I remember that piece you wrote and in that spirit, thought of you when I wrote this piece this afternoon. Delaware is unique in the fact that it is so small we can actually get to know our representatitves. For example, I know Mike personally, Chris as well. Both went to my alma Mater for High school. I have them both on speed dial so to speak. Until this cycle, we were also known for civility. Not now and part of the reason is Ms. O'donnell scorched earth campaigning and now she wonders why she doesn't have more Republicans, especially New Castle Republicans supporting her.

BTW... I am a big fan of Kennett Square and West Chester. Have spent many of days and nights there. Hughed fan of Longwood as well. So as you can see, we are intertwined in this region and maybe we can start the revival of discussing policy differences and not demonizing people.

How about Linvilla Orchards? I went to a rally there in 2008 and got to shake hands and speak briefly with Joe Biden - I remember him saying much the same thing about everyone in Delaware knowing each other, and a number of people I talked to when phone banking mentioned running into him at the gas station or Home Depot or that one diner down on Rt. 202. Unlike so many politicians who seem to feel compelled to proclaim how "just like you" they are, Joe always just was.

Again, thanks for the reminder on civility. I know I've caught myself straying a few times lately, and I always regret it. I'm honored that you remembered that piece I wrote. Keep posting and I'll look for you next time I'm at Longwood!

I cannot, in good conscience, support a person who believes in talking snakes and pregnant virgins, regardless of party. If you pray to tooth fairy for advice, you aren't credible, so what is different about 2000 yr old, dead jewish man?

Speaking as an athiest myself, that would limit the candidate pool to zero in most elections. Belief in a god is pretty harmless for most people, and may help some of them be nicer. I do watch out for those who think their belief justifies their bigotry or other evil actions.

Belief in supply-side economics is much more harmful to the country.

P.S. I think that first quote show she know about as much about religion as she does the constitution.

You don't need religion in order to have and adhere to a moral code. You can decide for yourself what kind of person you want to be and what kind of life you want to live, for the short time on this planet.

It's all up to ourselves, individually. Religion is based on hate and killing and racism and bigotry and butting into people's personal lives. And believing that they themselves are the only "good" people, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

That's been my experience listening to "religious" people for many years. They don't appear very kind and sympathetic to anyone who doesn't adhere to their "moral code", whatever that is.

Again, does God know who is going to win the World Series?

Has it already been decided? Yes or no?

Did God know about 9/11 before it happened? Did God know about the Holocaust? Did he side with the Nazi's beforehand?

Why were little children killed? Simply for being Jewish?

What about Hurricane Katrina? What about the earthquake in Haiti?

God KNEW about all this BEFOREHAND?

                          I don't think so.

Or does he just know about things beforehand to suit your purposes?

Religious people like to say and do whatever they want. They figure they can just be "forgiven" time and time and time again for who they hurt.

                          That's their "out".

What I meant was that most people do not have the intellectual ability to be moral without religion dictating those morals to them. The main functionof religion is to keep the ignorant masses in-line. I completely agree that it is unnecessary for those that are able to think for themselves.

I so agree. No one can tell you where heaven is. Have the gazillion people from the beginning of recorded history come back to say it's in the clouds on either side of the earth; is it below? earth That a man is invisible in the clouds is ludicrous because he is all loving, all knowing and all powerful for me does not work. In fact, I'm more spiritual than these fake christians who have no respect for life and are so selfish.

                          Christianity enslaved Africans.

The way I see it, you make your heaven and hell right here on the planet. Hell is republican rule; and it's gonna be more hell if the GOPTP gets in. They are the ones who want to kill granny, repeal laws that protect consumers; shut dow education; and rewrite history to suit their lop-side views of economic and social justice.

Charles, take your comment a step further - religion is meant to keep the ignorant exactlly that - ignorant. There are some very well-meaning religious leaders and followers who are not bigoted and who believe in the diversity of our world, but they are far outnumbered and overshadowed by the narrow minded and ignorant. How can anyone who believes in the "power of God" also believe he/she/it is intellectually limited and so petty that he/she/it cares who sits in the Oval Office? Much less care who wins Congressional seat whatever in any given podunk district anywhere? Seriously?

Personally I am a deist but I know enough that those who are telling someone else that they are not going to heaven are usurping one of the powers reserved by the Christian God. That would be the power of judgment. Seems as though ol proud republican, under their belief system, should be praying for their own forgiveness.

Good point - O'Donnell's statement reminded me immediately of all of the athletes and musicians who always thank God for His hand in their winning the Worls Series or Grammy or whatever - as if God favored the Giants over the Rangers or Taylor Swift over Carrie Underwood. Or Republicans over Democrats or vice-versa. If that's really the case, then it seems like God's about as fickle as the voters.....

I simply do not believe that God gets involved in politics anymore than he involves himself in football wins or losses; he has much more to worry about such as starving people, disease, etc.

The trouble with O'Donnell's double standard logic is that her male opponent has simply not said anything as stupid as she has. She apparently ignores that Buck, Bachmann, Paul, Angle get as much coverage as she does when they make outrageous remarks. Any candidate who makes crazy comments and appears unqualified will get the media's attention--it's equal opportunity for males and females to portray themselves as odd and unknowledgeable.

Since everyone interpret the Constitution the way that suits them; I say they meant for representation to be from the common farmer, banker, etc....that truly understand the need of their particular constituents. What is good in illinois may not be good in Texas.

Listen stuck in the Middle of Stupidity

No I wasn't there. But, I do know fake Constitutionals want to repeal certain aspects of the Constitution.

Oh, and by the way, you're wrong. What works for Texas doesn't work in Illinois or any other state; especially seceding from the Union and omitting great Americans from text books.

You did not have to be there. The founders clearly wrote what they meant. You had to be a US citizen, which meant a land owner in those days.

Believe me feisty... to get under MY skin you would have to have some credibility (which you don't) and to be quite honest... you are JUST NOT THAT IMPORTANT IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS! ;-)

I do get a good laugh out of your typically liberal way of throwing distractions out there though...

Your statement is not "FACTUAL" unless you CAN prove it... but you and your liberal friends never see need for that. You just proclaim it and it is true.

Reminds me of a Monty Python film... Feisty... If I called you a witch would you float like a duck?

                          From Wikipedia

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) filed a lien in 2010 that said that O'Donnell owed $11,000 in back taxes and penalties from 2005, according to public records.[5] O’Donnell said that it was a mistake and a computer error,[45] and noted that the IRS agent handling the matter claimed he was perplexed by the agency's actions.[5] In campaign finance reports, she listed herself as self-employed and said she was doing odd jobs to make ends meet.[5] Because of financial difficulties, she moved to a Delaware townhouse, where she paid half the rent with campaign funds because she also used separate quarters in the residence as her campaign headquarters for her 2010 Senate run.[5]

First off I don't have to disprove your comment because your premise is incorrect to begin with. You seem to be under the misguided idea that back taxes and tax evasion are the same thing. Unfortunately they are not, hence your entire argument is disproved. (If they were she would likely be in prison and not running for a political office.)

For various legal reasons (which you would likely not understand) tax extensions and re-filings lead to some people owing back taxes. Which can be paid back on a schedule. You seem to equate owing back taxes with tax evasion. As I said, those two things are NOT synonymous.

Unless of course you are trying to prove an invalid point, then you can spin it as if they are the same. :-P

BTW... way to stereotype there NASTY! "I take great pleasure in exposing you and the rest of the lying tea baggers for exactly what you are..."

Yeah... we are all the same aren't we.

You demanded I prove it... which I did... now you want to try to twist it to fit your agenda!

No where did I mention tax evasion... but you already knew that now didn't ya? ;0)

Why blame others when it is the ridiculous statements that she has and continues to make that has made her a laughing stock. She might be a good person but to a vast majority of people she appears woefully unqualified for the senate. Same with Sarah Palin nobody did anything to her except ask some questions and her answers indicate to most people (about 70%) that she is uninformed about to many things. Instead of trying to improve that situation they blame the media for reporting exactly what they said, they insinuate that having a decent education makes you elite, or they run on their faith which can not be verified. Even many republicans feel that they are not credible candidates for the office they seek. Don't blame us for what comes out of a candidates mouth.

status quo that is why we are in the position we are today. Do you need more

of this? Do you really need more of this? Then, Coon is the man, but voting for

O'Donnell won't be committing a crime , voting for Coon is. I don't think that WE

THE PEOPLE need more of what Oblaba has in store for us. We have seen the

cesspool we are going down into if COOns and his ilk is reelected again. How

many times will this be if he is elected again? Do the supporters of the Tea Party

need to throw the bums out then do it. You won't regret it. BUT YOU WILL ID

                              YOU LET COONS WIN.

Stupid people do not know they are stupid. JUVEN is a prime example of how wrong things CAN go if we let Republicans back in. Keep them out for a few more cycles, recover, let them back in to rape u.s. citizens, then vote Dems BACK in to fix it. You know, the usual

Because they will work for 25 cents an hour, and that's very profitable!

Let's get this straight, liberals do not hate anyone we are just sick of idiot's telling us what and how we should think. Religious mantra is the cause of all the hate in the world regardless of who's cult it is? Smarten up join the 21th century and enlighten yourselves with some good old fashion Liberal compassion.

                                  SickOfTheBickering:

You need to pick up on your reading skills. And your listening skills.

Especially what is said on Fox. We come here to push back on the lies. We're all supposed to do that.

This is the United States of America. Democracy. Freedom of Religion. Equality for all.

Keep your religion in your home. Leave it out of politics.

No one should "hate" anyone here in America because of differences in backgrounds, religions, political parties, geography, etc.

Fox is exploiting people. No one should stand for that, especially Republicans. Vote GOP all you want.

But please stand up to Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes. They played a huge role in the Iraq invasion, which killed thousands and thousands of innocent people.

They're at it again, dividing this country up into white v. minority, religious v. nonreligious.

There is room for all of us. Tell them why don't you?

ROFL...good one, Pat. I'd have voted up that comment of yours about religious interference had you not immediately launched into a damning tirade condemning all believers in all places at all times.

It was surprisingly Southern Baptist of you. Your post would've made a good template for a 700 Club broadcast~
