GOP watch: Steele and Palin, together again

Sarah Palin rallied with RNC Chairman Michael Steele in Orlando, FL. "We can't be thinking that we got it in the bag,” Palin said of the midterms, per NBC’s Shawna Thomas. “We can't get cocky about that. We got to keep on working extremely hard. We got to leave the dancing to the stars… You fire Pelosi. You retire Reid and their whole band of merry followers and we get back to putting America on the right track. You do fire them, and it's nothing personal. You just replace them with people who will do the job and will listen to the people."

Before Palin revved up the crowd, Steele asked them to take it down a notch and get in touch with their feelings. "I just want to take a moment, because in the silence I want you to feel something…I want you to feel each other's presence. I want you to feel that energy. I want you to understand how and why you got here. It is because of the work, the dedication, the commitment, desire to restore our country. Feel this moment… We, the Republican Party, are grateful for the leadership of the Tea Party, because they restored our faith in the Constitution. They reminded us what we forgot in 2006 and 2008. And you can't fake that."

We, the Republican Party, are grateful for the leadership of the Tea Party, because they restored our faith in the Constitution.

Wait until they get elected and caucus with the establishment Republicans. They'll be lobbing grenades into everything. Talk of compromise will be treason. Remind us then how "grateful" you are for restoring your "faith."

The Tea Party, by definition, cannot and will not govern. They are only interested in destroying it.

Hell, most of them don't even know what the Amendments cover in the Constitution... Oh, wait... I forgot... They sure got that Second Amendment down to a science.

Can you imagine if Code Pink took over the Democratic Party? Pundits would be saying its the end of the Democrats. But Palin and her ilk are credited with "saving" the Republican Party? More like putting a stake through its heart.

So much to say. Mr. Steele is basically saying that we had no faith in the Constitution under George W. Bush (which may indeed be true considering the Patriots' Act). Gov. Palin repeats the "putting the country on the right track" mantra, but I would like to know what that track is, and how she sees the country in 10 years. Until then, it's just a bunch of words. As for "replacing them with people who will.... listen to the people....," since the country is fairly evenly divided, which fraction of the people should be listened to? In a representative democracy, legislators are voted to represent the people, but have traditionally been considered independent enough to make and vote on legislation without continually polling their constituency. If the "new model" of legislators should be those who wait for the polls and the phone calls and tweets before deciding anything, we may need to do away the Constitution altogether and find something other than a "representative democracy."

What scares me are the TEA Party people, who have shown a distinct lack of knowlege about the Constitution, what it says and what it means, are talking about taking us back to Constitutional principles.

      As they imagine them.

Kind of makes you wonder what Star Trek Mirror Universe spawned the Tea Party.
