Paladino apologizes (somewhat) for gay remarks

Carl Paladino's campaign just sent out an something of an apology for his recent comments.

It might be one of the weirder apologies ever: (By the way, he misspells President Barack Obama's name.)

I am Carl Paladino, a father, a husband, a builder and a business owner. I am neither perfect, nor a career politician. I have made mistakes in this campaign - I have made mistakes all my life- as we all have. I am what I am - a simple man who works hard, trusts others, and loves his family and fears for the future of our State.

Yesterday I was handed a script. I redacted some contents that were unacceptable. I did also say some things for which I should have chosen better words. I said other things that the press misinterpreted and misstated. I sincerely apologize for any comment that may have offended the Gay and Lesbian Community or their family members. Any reference to branding an entire community based on a small representation of them is wrong. My personal beliefs are:
1) I am a live and let live person.

2) I am 100% against discrimination of any group. I oppose discrimination of any kind in housing, credit, insurance benefits or visitation.

3) I am 100% against hate crimes in any form.

4) I am in support of civil agreements and equal rights for all citizens.

5) My position on marriage is based on my personal views. I have the same position on this issue as President Barrack Obama. I have previously stated I would support a referendum by New York voters. I have proposed Initiative and Referendum so New Yorkers can decide important issues like this.

6) The portrayal of me as anti-gay is inconsistent with my lifelong beliefs and actions and my prior history as an father, employer and friend to many in the gay and lesbian community.

I am concerned with the future for all our citizens, gay, straight, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Muslim and Agnostic. Although I am not perfect I do admit my mistakes. I will reach out to leaders of the gay community to educate me on how to better represent my support for the rights of all citizens. If elected as your governor I will stand and fight for all gay New Yorkers rights. I ask you for forgiveness on my poorly chosen words and the publication by others not involved with our campaign of unredacted script that did not reflect my oral statement or match my personal feelings. Please go to my website www.paladinoforthepeople.com to learn more detail about the issues including my staunch support for civil rights for all New Yorkers.

Heterosexuals are so mentally screwed up. They should never be allowed around children. Disgusting perverts. I hope they all burn in the hell they believe in.

What is this garbage about you having a choice to act or not act on an impulse? Being Gay is not simply an impulse! Leave it to some straight Christian to think they have it all figured out. I was born Gay! Period! You have never walked in my shoes so none of you have any idea what it means to be Gay. And while we are on the topic of what offends people. I find it disgusting every time I drive by Hooters and see some skank Whore leaving a dish of Hotwings on a table with some Straight Christian dude and his under age son sitting with him. Thats what sickens me to no end! Straight America,GO TOO HELL!!!!!!

Hmm, so it's okay for you, a gay man, to condemn all of 'straight America' because a few have offended you? Can you say 'hypocrite'? Lose the anger dude, we're not all out to get you.

Dave - there are lots of gay people on the planet not near as angry as you. I'm guessing something else is going on?

Gay Pride Parades do have they're share of disgusting. Anyone reading this can search for pictures online and find plenty of offensive shots of gay men being overtly sexual in their actions and choice of clothing.

With that said, children should not be allowed to view many prime time television shows due to the overtly sexual content there either, and on TV it's usuaully heterosexuals being depicted.

Finally, if Mr. Paldino really wants to convince everyone of how sorry he is, he should arrive at his next public appearance in a Speedo. Who knows, maybe he'll get an endorsement deal after he loses his bid to govern NY.

So which is it? Palin-Dino is on record stating that he would veto a same-sex marriage bill or a civil union bill.

He clearly opposes equal treatment under the law for all Americans, and wants special rights for straights.

I don't see the need for all of this vitriol.  The voters of New York will figure this out, and Andrew Cuomo will likely be the next Governor.  Mr. Palodino is entitled to his views, and I trust that New Yorkers will repudiat them.  In other words, quiet down and let the process work.

Jim, that was pretty much my point. I am a gay new yorker, and I actually accept the apology. I take him at his word on this. Having said that, I am voting for Cuomo.

He has proven to be a horrific canidate and equally bad politician. Let's let this run it's course, and he will more than likely go down in defeat. I'm sick of both sides feeling the need to destroy their opponant. We have got to find a way back to civility in politics.

Gay people have had enough! You got us in your face now! John 24, and the rest of Straight Christian america are the problem! We will not back down anymore, we have a right to be pissed. Enough is enough!

          Reply#33 - Tue Oct 12, 2010 7:10 PM EDT

Dave - I am neither straight nor 'Straight Christian'. What are you pissed about? Because someone, possibly, of your ilk (look it up) doesn't think that either gay or straight, or bi or lesbian or transgendered should be parading in public, in front of children wearing little or nothing while simulating or exacting overt sexual behavior that belongs in the privacy of your bedroom?

Start your 'Enough is enough' revolution and see how far you get. If you engage in that behavior in public or in front of children, you, Dear Sir, are the pervert and WE will not back down. Gay, straight and otherwise...we are the majority. Have a pervert party in your backyard.

In an effort to be more rational than reactive....The kind of behavior displayed at Gay Pride parades only serves to perpetuate the 'Straight Christian' perception that all gays are promiscuous perverts who will have sex anywhere at any time with anyone, regardless of the circumstances and consequences. Where is the Pride in that? Why not march down the street, fully clothed, with dignity and exclaim your right to be here and be who you are? Is this a novel thought? Or, possibly, one to be built on that may just help the overall agenda of Gay Pride parades, which is to be accepted?

Uh...ok...I guess. It's almost like you have to have a natural ability to talk out of both sides of your mouth to run for office these days. What do we, as citizens, do when we don't trust any of the candidates in the race? Write in "none of the above"?

Like it or not, gay people are part of this nation and they deserve their rights the same as any of the rest of us. They are our parents, our children, our brothers and sisters, and our friends.

When oh when will we find a reasonable, balanced leader anywhere?

I agree with him. We need to put a stop to the minority trying to force gay rights down our throats. It is not ok to be gay in any way. We sure get alot of presure to agree with those who would have you to beleive it is. America, think for yourself and exercise you freedom of speech.

When he said he didn't approve of families taking their kids to a Gay Pride(whatever that is) Parade and letting their children watch two males in speedos grinding against each other: I totally agreed with him. This is Not Normal behavior. it is perverted.

Try not to forget that you wouldn't take your child to a biker bar and let them watch two nuts beat each other with broken beer bottles either. My point is, not everyone who is homosexual needs to be so crazed or public about it. My darling aunt is gay and she is one of the most reserved and private people I know. She would be mortified if anyone ever saw her in any state of undress or doing anything sexual. She is a good person and would never flaunt herself like an idiot.

The gay pride parade is more about flamboyant personalities than homosexual persons. I personally know gay people who cringe over it because it make them look bad as a group. It is NOT indicative of the average gay person. As I said before, these people are our parents, our children, our brothers and sisters, and our friends. Otherwise known as good and decent people who just want to live their lives and be happy without hurting anyone else.

I'm not even gay and I know this to be true.

America has lost its way in the world. I happen to agree with his comment about families NOT taking their children to a gay Pride parade and watch 2 males in speedos grind up against each other. How do you explain perverted behavior to children let alone condone it. You can't justify 2 people of the same sex being perverted.

Well, YOU can call it an apology. I call it damage control. A blatant manipulation of the public's perception because his poll numbers were circling the the drain faster than you can say,"Flush him!"

He threw the election, bcause as Freud says, there are no accidents. He knows, deep down, that he is incapable of running a state government. It is after all, easier to say, look at what HE did! If the public had elected me...."

No need for him to apologize. He is only speaking the truth. There is no need for political correctness to teach children that the lifestyle is acceptable. Gay pride parades are a joke...just a basic display of debauchery. To bad his handlers have got to him. He needs to hold his ground.

Hey Americans these aren't the people that are needed to get back on track. New York will vote in the son of a lousy politician and then wonder why is everything the same? Dumbest state of the 50, believe me.
