West Virginia Democratic Senate candidate Gov. Joe Manchin is again highlighting his opposition to an Obama-backed proposal that's unpopular in his home state.
It's really quite FUNNY how many Democrats are running away from Obama's policies in order to get elected !
Once elected, there will be great pressure to "fall in line" and vote with the party........maybe even the usual bribes and back room deals. We already saw what happened with Obamacare !
There isn’t going to be an article. It’s much more effective in inciting violence when you just drop a couple of key words with a picture….”AIM”, “Dead Aim”, “shoot a gun at it” and a picture of a gun. Palin simply said “reload” and it was a national atrocity. It must be ok when things like this are said from sources on the left though.
When Palin said "reload", no one said it was an "atrocity."
The problem is that she or her managers have used hunting metaphors too many times. A TV ad had telescopic rifle sights on candidates she disapproved of, and she herself used the term "take out" in referring to them.
It's part of a pattern on the right, where another candidate can urge American citizens to "become armed and dangerous" and still another can warn of "second amendment remedies."
It only takes one listener to interpret these remarks literally.
No, it's not an atrocity but it's pushing the envelope.
He's still a Democrat. If the dems control Congress they get their way even if there is one clear thinker in their group. Vote the democrats out this time.
Your view is one of the biggest problems our nation faces. Pure partisan politics is why we keep swinging from one extreme to another. The Senate more than any other is were PEOPLE need to be elected over party.
It's called BALANCE OF POWER......and for the last two years, balance has been absent and Barack Obama has totally ABUSED his power.
As President of the United States, it is his job to see to it that the EXISTING laws of the U.S. are carried out properly. Obama wants to be the Legislator-in-Chief..........that is, when he's not the Campaigner-in-Chief.
Obama must be NEUTERED IN NOVEMBER by removing his leftist lemmings.
Could you explain to me what good it has done to have the blue dog dems in office for the past few years. If they disagree with the progressive dems they are thrown out of meetings and their voice is not heard. So that is why I say a dem is a dem. The blue dogs are the elected officials that are trying to stall the progressives. It has not been republicans as you and I are told to believe.
If we are to vote out all Dems then what is the alternatave ? I sure as h**l cant vote for a rep. this is the problem: neither side is worth a S**t they all still amount to the same old waistful government.
If we get rid of all the progressive dems this country can start getting back to work. I don't think there is any question as to why the markets are going up and the belief is that the republicans are coming back. They go hand in hand.
For the first time in my 66 years I am voting a straight Dem.ticket The party of no has got to go. Right along with the idiot tea flaggers.I am a 66 yr old white male and 22 yr vet.The gop has been taken over communists liars.
Get rid of the far right loonies first, and then I will vote out the progressives. At least progressives want to help people regardless of wealth or religious believes...oh and want to save the environment.
If the guy is telling the truth, more power to him. We need politicians who will not just fall in line with either party. I would love to see no party politics, but that would be a nightmare with hundreds of people running for each position and no primary to weed them out. The people in general already don't research the candidates, but lets the parties or celebrities make their choices for them.
Go Keith Go! If you have time, you should request a yard sign. May help any neighbors who are on the fence or part of the "silent majority" to know that others support the Dems.
I personally would vote for Oregon GOP Gov Candidate DUDLEY if it werent for the fact that all Republicans will instantly LOCK ARMS and BLOCK something when INSTRUCTED by the COLLECTIVE.
"I don't think there is any question as to why the markets are going up and the belief is that the republicans are coming back. They go hand in hand."
You are correct. A recent poll of large investors showed that virtually 100% believe republicans will take the house and 51% believe they will also take the senate. They are betting with their dollars that the lunacy will end next month.
Valhalla, If what you are saying is true, then the Market will crash if the GOP fails to take the house and senate. If investors are "betting with dollars" then I wonder how they are hedging their bets....
Can you post a link to the Investor poll you cited? Thanks.
These dog gone gun toting repulicans, bashing Obama and his green agenda. Always got to be toting guns around and talking up the 2ND AMENDMENT. It's just horrible, the scare tactics.
Of course you've heard news people use the term - their the ones that coined it 'Obamacare' in the first place.
The HCR is not what I wanted either, but it is better than what we've had. HCR was being 'discussed' back when Regan was in office yet nothing was being done until now. There comes a point when a decision HAS to be made.
Obama came out strongly in favor of "clean coal" and even said coal must be a major part of our energy future. I wonder how many progressives killed themselves just so they could spin in their graves over that revelation? :<)
One thing for sure, the NRA has endorsed several house, senate and governor candidates that are not republicans - shock of shocks, they are instead endorsing Democrats. The republicans in Tennessee are quite stumped by this and don't really know how to fight it, some staunch NRA members who are also big republicans are very torn, say they may stay home this election. We sure hope they do.
Contrary to propaganda, the NRA is not a republican organization, theirsole purpose is to defend the 2nd amendment. That is mostly aligned with conservative republicans, but not always. Harry Reid supported the bill allowing conceal carry in federal parks, as but one example.
Manchin's a sellout and should have the cajones to switch parties and join the people he thinks like. He just hurts the Democratic party. Unfortunately the Dems allow too many free lancers in their midst that vote against them. If this had been a repub going against his party, there would be consequences he would face, or he would realize that there would be consequences to face and wouldn't pull this crap in the first place. At least I could respect (just a little) a republican doing something like this. A Dem? Nope, just sellin out and not representing his party at all.
Why are you upset that Manchin is voting the way his constituents want him to do, instead of the "party"? Isn't he supposed to be representing his constituents, instead of any political party?
I agree with Gordon90N. Manchin represents the PEOPLE of West Virgina, not the POLITICIANS of the Democratic party. THAT is what an Elected Official is supposed to do. Granted Manchin probably won't get much in campaign funds from the DNC, but that might not hurt him very much since WVa candidates don't usually get much funding from the National Conventions anyway.
Coal and oil, unfortunately these industries have enough power over the economies in some states to make it difficult for even democrats to speak too loudly against them. States like West Virginia depend on coal for their economic well being. We see the same thing with Mary Landrieu placing a hold on Obama's nominee in the name of big oil influence.
The problem is that the longer America waits to start moving away from fossil fuels toward clean, renewable energy, the greater the negative impact on states who currently live on coal and oil. I read "Reckoning at Eagle Creek" not long ago. The story of coal and its negative impact on the people and the land is not pretty. 500 Appalachian mountain tops have been removed, not to mention thousands of creeks, streams polluted and covered; thousands of years of history and beauty wiped out with strip mining; long wall mining that eventually collapses anything above it; wells destroyed by explosives so that families must haul water to what is left of their homes.
At some point, America needs a reckoning--let's just hope we do not wait too long.
Until the environmentalists lose their grip on the politicians, nothing will change. They are the biggest obstacle to any and all types of alternatives - from nuclear to wind. Democrats need to get these people to understand what they are doing to our country by stopping progress on everything.
Let the free market handle the issue. When gas gets scarce alternatives will be viable. When solar is viable, then coal will no longer be needed.
Just think if Obama spent that trillion dollar stimulus on low interest solar conversion loans instead, we could have converted millions of homes to solar and had something to show for it.
But he was bought and paid for before even before the election so all we get is mumbling about building solar panels, (even though China already builds 50% of the worlds output and we couldn't compete if we wanted to).
I can understand his point, really, because coal smoke is SO good for you, climate change isn't real -- as judged right here by temperatures for the past week in the 80s where the average is in the 60s -- and the mining industry is a shining example of benevolence for employers everywhere to emulate.
It's so refreshing to see a politician stand up for what he believes in, isn't it?
Joe Manchin seems like a good man to me. As a Democrat I am most inclined to have more respect for someone who I agree with on most issues rather than all.
Someone who is 100% aligned with party platform is just a hack preaching to the Choir and not capable of being an effective leader for all of the people.
Manchen is just saying what the constituency wants from him. His actual beliefs may differ. Than again, if he is from that area he may well have the same idea regarding coal. That may be an area where there are jobs, albeit dirty, dangerous jobs but jobs nevertheless. Without coal his constituents would have no jobs and could't even afford to live in the sigle wides in the run down trailer park let alone nice houses that people in other areas live in. Frankfort may be the only place in KY that one can find other things to do.
While I don't agree with Manchan, I don't make a living off of or use coal, but I can understand his stand because he and his constituents rely on coal for their livelihoods.
As a West Virginian I would like to say: Joe Manchin is a Republican who registered as a Democrat to get elected. He is all about himself and his own ego - gave himself a $50,000 salary raise while giving state workers absolutely no raises. He wants everybody to stand when he comes into a room - ego trip like no other. He is behind the Republican candidate in polls and will do anything it takes to get elected. His uncle (A. James Manchin) was a clown, but Joe makes A James look like small change in the clown tent.
Only problem is, his opponent, Raese, is just the same. He is a big business man, no connection or concern for the working man. But in the last election, to look good, he went out and bought a set of hunting clothes and shot gun. Posed with the gun slung across his shoulder sideways, HIS FINGER ON THE TRIGGER! Definitely do not want to be in the woods with him around - but not likely to see him anywhere near the woods.
What we need for this election is a slot marked "none of the above". If it gets the most votes, the office stands empty until next election. Then we might get some candidates worth electing from both parties.
Wych - Some states do have that option. Nevada comes to mind. I guess for me I would prefer a home grown clown to a carpet bagger clown but I don't live in WV so I respect your input.
I just don't understand how anyone in West Virginia could vote for Raese since he does live in Florida most of the time and he has no idea what we the people of West Virginia want.
Plus his ideas or I should say policies are a little scary.......no real scary!!!!
Com on Manchin we are already know (on both sides) that you are cowered, I am a Democrat but I don't think that you are ready to be a senator, its not a privilege you have to earn it, its better to have real Republican then fake one that afraid of his own shadow with lettera "D" on it.
TRR, I'll tell you why people will vote for Raese and could care less if he lives on the moon. He's a raging capitalist in favor of smaller government and lower taxes, which is the exact prescription to get us out of the mess created by Obama and the dumocratic majority.
If you believe everything the commercials say, his wife is registered to vote in Florida (as she lives in the mansion he owns there and everyone screams about). If that is the case - if his wife cannot vote for him, why should I? (this is in regards to the Raese comment but does not seem to post beneath it)
Best solution: vote for the Mountain party candidate (Johnson). I absolutely cannot vote for either Manchin or Raese - those two are the same thing, just a matter of which company owns them. Neither of them give a rat sass about the people of West Virginia. If we give both the Republicans and Democrats a kick in the crotch, maybe they will start listening to what the people want instead of what the special interests tell them.
Cap and trade will do to the energy industry what Obamacare does to the health care industry: Send prices through the roof while a fewfat cats rake it in. Al Gore and George Soros come to mind on energy.
I am a Democrat and I completely agree with those on the right wing who are touting the Democrats who are running away from Obama. Those Democrats need to leave the Democrat Party NOW. I hope they’re beaten in the November elections so we can get excellent Democrat candidates from those districts who support Democrat ideas and policies. Equally important, we need to FIRE the current members of the DCCC and their counterparts in the various state Democrat Party leadership positions and replace them with Democrats who are passionate about Democrat Party ideas and policies. Then, the new Democrat Party leadership should work hard to communicate their ideas to the public for their support, an idea that would be completely new to current Democrat Party leadership. If the pubic rejects those ideas, then let them say so at the next election.
Further, I strongly believe many (not all) "conservative" Democrats, particularly in the South, are holdovers from the old racist, pre-1948, Democrat Party. The center of their politico-economic thought is a hatred for minority races, and consequently, the "conservative" policies they support are the manifestation of that racist center. In other words, they do not support a given "conservative" policy on its own merits, but they support it because it is, say, antiObama, and they hate Obama because he is black. As a result, they oppose the policy, not on its merits, but because it is supported by Obama. The Republican Party also has some of these kinds of people. They need to find a new home. I imagine they would be much happier in the American Nazi Party, and not in either the Democrat or Republican Parties. I hope those two parties would be much more focused on economic issues. If we could entice the racists to join the Nazi Party where they belong, then maybe we would have a much better idea of the politico-economic thoughts of the American voter. That ain't going to happen, but it is at least worth thinking about.
Ahh....another sop to the morons in 'fly-over' country. The so calles 'greatest democracy on earth' is now kow-towing to the lowest common denominator voters. Uhh...I'm not an 'elitist'....I'm just smart. As Tennyson the great historian said....."America is the only empire in the history of the world to have gone from barbarianism to decadence without the intervening years of civilization'. Empires crumble from within, and the fat, stupid, apathetic average Amurkan are helping it along very well.....
Speaking as someone who's grandfather fought against the Gremans in WW1 and whose father fought against them in WW2, your comment is laughable. The yanks turned up 3 years late only after Pearl Harbor. Go back to your doughnut, tv remote and .303.........oh, and by the way, how many Irish New Yorkers were happily funding the Irish Republican Army ( terrorist organization ) in Northern Ireland before 9-11 ?? Do you think you were the first to discover 'terrosrism'....that monkey Bush has accelerated the demise of yankee land....
What?? Where's the story...or do we just get the headline?
It's really quite FUNNY how many Democrats are running away from Obama's policies in order to get elected !

Gee, where's the Feisty One Rozelle? Getting spanked must not suit her. Oh well, just 3 more weeks until we can neuter Obama.
Give an example of a candidate on the left appearing to advocate violence against conservatives.
He's still a Democrat. If the dems control Congress they get their way even if there is one clear thinker in their group. Vote the democrats out this time.

JH & Jim,
The only real point I was trying to make is that we should try and set aside partisan politics when possible and simply vote for the best candidate.
What if the Senate required no party affiliation? 100 independents with the only people to be answerable to are there peers and constituents?
I promise to vote out the Dems if you'll vote out the GOP candidates. If we can get shed of those two loser parties, our nation might stand a chance.
For the first time in my 66 years I am voting a straight Dem.ticket The party of no has got to go. Right along with the idiot tea flaggers.I am a 66 yr old white male and 22 yr vet.The gop has been taken over communists liars.

Spanky: Manchin is a democrat.
Manchin is a Democrat. Get your facts straight before making a comment.
I'm pretty sure Spanky was going for sarcasm.
You'd think they'd get the sarcasm, but those highbrow puffed-up dems have no common sense.
Commercial was fine with me except for calling HCR, Obama Care. Looks like there is a new catch phrase waiting to be coined.
Manchin just pulled an Arlene Specter; may as well switch parties.
Everybody calls it Obamacare because it is not health care reform as we wanted. I've even heard news people use the term.

Don't blame him, you would take a shot at any legislation that would inhibit the usage of your only viable product namely COAL.
Let's keep this country in the 19th. Century even if it kills us all.
Not if you don't believe in science. Then you're free to believe that God chose to kill you, instead.
I support underground mines of which end up employing more people due to the safety equipment needed.
I am against Open Pit mines or Mountain Top Removal where they simply dump the mountain top into streams below with their Bush-Era EPA waiver in hand.

How is the electricity that powers your home produced?
The windmills of my mind.
Touche. ;)
What people fail to recognize, is that "big oil" means lots of big oil JOBS!
While the windmills in your mind are cute, they don't represent a major power generation solution right now, and won't for the foreseeable future...
