Brown camp not investigating Whitman slur

The Jerry Brown (D) campaign tells First Read that it has no plans to investigate who in its campaign used the word "whore" in reference to Republican gubernatorial opponent Meg Whitman.

When asked if they planned to fire the person responsible, campaign spokesman Sterling Clifford said he was uncertain the campaign would even be able to identify the staffer.

"I don't know that it's possible," Clifford said of identifying the person, contending there could have been a dozen or more people close enough to the phone to be heard. And they're not interviewing staffers to find out, he said.

An aide can be heard saying the word in a phone call recorded on a voice mail leaked to the Los Angeles Times. The call was placed by the Brown campaign to a union representative of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, seeking its endorsement. But Brown and the campaign did not hang up the call and the rest of their conversation was recorded on the union representative's voice mail.

News of the call, however, only surfaced last night, following a week of negative press for the Whitman campaign over the ex-eBay CEO's employment of an undocumented worker for nine years in her home. The Brown campaign contends Whitman promised to protect police pensions from potential pension reforms, whereas Brown made no such promise. The Whitman campaign accused the Brown campaign of orchestrating the immigrant lawyer story with lawyer Gloria Allred.

What the staffer said was "inappropriate," Clifford said. But, he added, it's clear it's not Brown who used the word. Clifford said he found it "interesting" that this recording surfaces just three days before their next debate, to be moderated by NBC's Tom Brokaw.

Is it true that the sainted Meg cut a deal with our trusted Police Protective League and is that why they are now backing her? I wish Meg would cut a deal with our teachers who are losing their jobs. Back in the olden days when I was growing up in California, our kids were up there in test scores nationally and our colleges were affordable to the working class. That was when Jerry's old man was gov. It all ended when the beloved Ronald Reagan became gov. Who ever becomes our next governor, I would really like to see them give a s--t about all of our kids, even the working class kids.

What has your post got to do with the article, which is about Jerry Brown's filthy mouth?

IndependentThinker: You're a little too independent, since you made up your own facts, and neglected to read the article. Brown did not say any such thing.

whoever made the statement was obviously talking to jerry brown. if jerry browns memory is so bad, what does that say about him? im sick of cover-ups and lies from politicians. i suppose we must accept that jerry brown is a typical politician who will keep the public in the dark about what is going on.

Jerry isn't keeping anybody in the dark. It's his non-thinking, yellow-dog, socialist liberals who choose to remain in the dark and in denial.

I've been to Denial. It's near the Sheldon Wildlife refuge. I won't live in it, it's too solidly right wing for my taste. Nice opals in that area.

      Republican Playbook:

      1. Accuse your opponents of your sins.
      2. Buy a TV station and run political advertisements all year long.
      3. Lie creatively and often, and repeat ad nauseum.
      4. Ignore the peccadilloes of politicians in your camp.
      5. Amplify to Hindenburg proportions any on the left.
      6. Use any negative information available, even if it comes a union you claim to despise.
      7. Outspend the opposition.
      8. Do the will of the rich above all else to insure campaign funding.
      9. Attack education for the majority- a stupid nation is more easily cozened.
      10. Claim Christian virtues while crushing the poor and protecting the wealthy.

Yes, the left does some of these things too- but nowhere near as well.

Yo, Bob.... I did say some of these tactics were also used by the left- though I would stipulate that when your opponents drags you down into the mud, you're going to find yourself covered in it whether you win or lose. BTW: See article one....

IndependentThinker.... please, oh please... keep posting. You define the principles of "your side" with such clumsy spin and broad, crude smears that Meg must flinch every time you pound keys. Thanks for the giggles...

It has everything to do with our priorities. I want our youth to be albe to complete in the world. I want jobs, like everyone else and I would love to see someone other than the multi-national coporations, oil interest and banks making decisions for California. I am sick of labels. There are very few registered commies and most liberals are just liberal in our outlook on life. We want to work together and build a better environment for our kids. Does that make us sicko commies. Well, I hope the young voters understand that it is their future we are screwing up and go out and VOTE.

Jennifer, you sure got Bob's attention- and how willingly and savagely he'll attack anyone who challenges the virtue of his party. Since you have a lady's name he has determined that you represent NOW- so, they must be smeared at once with some heinous lie attributing nastiness to simple reason.

Bob, thanks for demonstrating the amazingly extensive bigotry intrinsic to your point of view. Given your clear willingness to demean anyone I'd refer to as a lady, your probable expertise as a consumer of prostitution lends your accusation a particularly loathsome twist.

When the story hit regarding Whitman and her illegal worker, it was on the front page of our far left rag newspaper for two days. When the "whore" story hit, it was on page 11 and the caption did not even include Brown or Whitman's names. Fair and balanced press? BS Surprisingly, the Newspapers can't seem to figure out why their readership is sinking like a lead balloon. Idiots!

At some point the voters of CA need to consider the qualifications of each candidate and determine which is best suited to be the Governor. It appears that a lot of time and effort is being wasted on trivial side issues, not an evaluation of qualifications of each. Is this the best CA can do?
