Congress: The earmark rift

"House Minority Leader John Boehner's speech Thursday about his longtime personal opposition to earmarks made it no clearer whether House Republicans would end the practice. But House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) has interpreted the Ohioan's statement as an unequivocal call to end earmarks," Roll Call reports. "Meanwhile, the House Republicans' new governing agenda, known as 'A Pledge to America,' largely ignored the issue. There are deep divisions over what to do among the party's rank and file, the vast majority of whom have endorsed earmarking in the past."

"Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-Del.) is replacing Elizabeth Warren on the Congressional panel that oversees the Troubled Asset Relief Program, according to a statement issued by the Senator's office Thursday," Roll Call reports.

Ben Nelson (D-NE) endorsed the flat tax.

Keep it down! "Bills to turn down the volume on loud TV commercials that send couch potatoes diving for the remote controls looks destined to become law," the AP writes. "The Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday to require television stations and cable companies to keep commercials at the same volume as the programs they interrupt."

"White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs blasted Sen. Mary Landrieu's hold on a presidential appointment as 'outrageous' on Thursday," Roll Call reports.

After looking at what msnbc call news, it is little wonder that their ratings are lower that dirt. No one watches them. The latest poll of all the media has them at 11% while Fox News is 41% with all the people on Fox at the top of the list. The first five are: O'Rielly, Beck, Hannity, Greta, and Jon Steward in that order. Doesn't this give those left wing radicals that their message is falling on deaf ears? they will be soon be on Obama's unemployment line.

No one Dem or Repub believes that Congress is going to do away with earmarks, it is disgusting that Boehner or Cantor even mention the issue. Cantor and Boehner are such disingenuous phonies that no one in their own party even believes anything they say, I don't think you can find a Republican anywhere that believes anything they say which brings up a good point, Republicans seem to be voting Republican because of spite, not because they think the Republicans are going to "fix" anything, just so they can say the Democrats got beat with complete disregard for whats best for America, and that's a damn poor reason that they will regret.

w...i am not defending Boehner on his political position in general. I don't know enough about his philosophy. But I can tell you that his name did not appear on any earmark in 2009 or 2010. There are several places to find this information. Citizens Against Government Waste and Project Vote Smart are both websites that bash liberal and conservative alike.

Did you realize that Congress can earmark money anonymously? OMG! Talk about transparency in government.

Nope, sorry Russ, what it says is that tabloid "reporting" sells. Just like it does at the checkout counter at the Supermarkets. There are people who like that stuff and are unable to discern that it is not real news, not edifying, just entertainment. I feel sorry for those people, don't you?
