SEIU seizes on Whitman housekeeper story

An SEIU-backed independent expenditure campaign, Cambiando California, is launching a new Spanish-language TV ad hitting California GOP gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman for attacking undocumented immigrants -- but then employing one for nine years.

Here's the script (translated to English):
Meg Whitman says she's a different kind of Republican…
But Pete Wilson is in charge of her campaign.
Whitman attacks undocumented workers to win votes, but an undocumented woman worked in her home for nine years.
She says she'll create jobs - but wants to eliminate forty-thousand state jobs, including teachers and nurses.
Whitman says one thing in Spanish --- and something different in English.
The real Meg Whitman has no shame.
She's a two-faced woman

Here's the ad:

Hey, John, if you used my ssn for employment and pay purposes, I would get your earnings credited to my ss account. That would give me a larger ss annuity at age 67.5. I check my ss account a couple of times a year to see if someone is putting FICA payments into it. I also keep a close watch on my credit reports from all 4 (yes there is a fourth one) credit reporting bureaus to catch a problem if someone tries to use my ssn to open up credit.

The Agency is the one responsible for whoever is applying for a job. Apparently this Agency misinformed Whitman and she believed everything was taken care of until she found out that this woman was illegal. She was right in firing her. Besides that, she paid her too much money. Jerry Browns campaign is only trying to smear Whitman because he was losing in the polls. Brown was governor years back and he should be retired not campaigning for governor. He is in his seventies and being a former governor I was under the impression that he could not run again. Plus this situation with the housekeeper is trifle and who cares. Its how the candidate will run the state and I believe Whitman would be more capable than Brown.

No crime to lie, not even under oath if you're a member of the right party.

What happened to Jerry Browns girlfriend Linda Ronstadt? And was he married at the time. How come this was not brought up in the campaign. Whitman should do a complete background check on him when he was the governor of California. She may find out a lot of trash about him.

MEG did not lie. The Agency apparently passed her thru without doing a complete check on her social security and citizenship papers. MEG paid the Agenc so the Agenchy fully responsible. She later then found out her houekeeper was illegal and fired her. The Agency should be fined for their lack of responsibility in this case. IF I lived in California I certainly would vote Whitman. Brown is much to old. He is like McCain. They don't want to give up the check and the power. Brown needs to do something with his life and I don't mean in politics.

Mariann....get a grip. Meg LIED. Did you see the newscast. Her husband received the notice from the Social Security, wrote a note on the notice to the maid. Asked the maid to "check it out" (so, to speak). What about Meg's statement on Good Morning America that "they" never received any notification? Meg implied that the maid picked up the mail and that she probably "hid" the notice. Now we all know better. Now, Meg says she'll take a polygraph......IF Jerry Brown takes one....what??? What's he been accused of? Conspiring with Gloria Allred?? BTW, the Linda Ronstadt thing happened during his first run as governor back in the 70's. No, he was NOT married at the time. Don't you think with Whitman's mega-billions she wouldn't have "thought" to run some type of backround check for dirt on Brown?? Of course she has and she has been pilloried him relentlessly through the media. Can't wait for the debate tomorrow in Fresno....

Appears that Meg's husband did what is required by law. Employers do not "get in trouble" with the Social Security Administration if an employee uses a fake ssn. In this case the employee was a 1099 employee, which means the employee must file her tax forms and pay ALL federal, state, and local income taxes and ALL payroll taxes on ALL 1099 earnings. Employer in this case might be guilty of violationg a federal law that says employers can't hire illegal immigrants; however, there is a contradictory federal law that could get the employer into hot water if he delves into an employee's legal status. The 'don't hire illegal immigrant' law is not enforced against individuals or businesses who hire one or two illegals; the 'don't check on legal status' law is sometimes enforced against individuals and small businesses who hire one or two illegals. Whether a person should worry about such matters almost always depends who is in control in the DOJ and White House. In this case the object is a Republican office-seeker and the people in control are Democrats---you figure it out.

What would a check of SEIU membership rolls reveal?

You can bet there are more than a few illegals working in that union.

Whitman's illegal immigrant maid said, "... she knew I was in the country illegally but didn't do anything about it."

That's an odd statement. One can easily infer from it that the maid thought Whitman was going to "fix" the maid's illegal status. That is a natural assumption for someone from Mexico or other third world countries, where money and/or power can get anything "fixed." Instead, Whitman fired the illegal immigrant. Could this be a reason for the maid's alliance with Allred?

What is considered a small business, Senate McCain wife knows, she owns a beer company that is considered to be a small business, with income over 6 million dollars.

I have no idea what you think of Keith Olbermann, but this is worth watching, he really gives a good definition of what is considered to be a small business in our country..

The top 3% percent of the wealthiest in this country keeps 18% of every 100 dollars of this countries income. The biggest part of them is also considered to be small business. I used these names as examples there are thousand more that is considered a small business, Koch Brothers, Fed-Ex. Because of little entitlements on the tax forms.

As an outsider looking in I have seen all the comments about Meg Whitman and I cannot figure out what her problem is supposed to be. She hired a maid with documentation and paid her $23 an hour which I am told is more than most are getting. After being fired she turns up with a lawyer showing a letter that was addressed to the Whitmans. How can a maid afford a lawyer ? please tell me.   How was she in possession of this letter ? What has all this got to do with voting for leaders ? Surely you are looking for a responsible, capable, person who is able to run a government ?  Surely you are looking for someone to bring your state to financial responsibility and to get jobs any which way ?  These are the things to look for nothing else, just choose the best one to do the job that you expect to be done for all the citizens.

Bottom line about Meg Whitman: Anyone who will spend hundreds of millions of her own money simply to attain a position of political power is a megalomaniac who is in it for her own interests. She's buying a governorship, and that should scare anyone of any political party.

Same would be true of Jerry Brown or whomever.

What's so enticing about that position that she has to have it at any price? Power is that necessary?

I don't trust anyone like that.

if people notice who are the authors of political ads in California, they will see that not one negative ad against Whitman is sponsored by Jerry Brown. His ads have been focused on the issues. Any negative adds are paid for by groups outside the campaign. They are a little bit more open in their approach. Unlike the large corpporate interest who directly give monies to Republican politicians, these organization run a paralell campaign in favor of their camp[aign or propostion. Something Republican don't do, they come out with their attack ads and pay from it with filty corporate lucre.
