Obama agenda: Taking the fight to Cantor's backyard

The Washington Post: “At a recreation center in House Whip Eric Cantor's district [in Richmond, VA], Obama accused the Republican of proposing intellectually dishonest policies as part of the GOP's recently released ‘Pledge to America.’ ‘I know your congressman here I think has strong ideas about what he says he wants to do,’ Obama said. But, he said, the math behind the Republican proposal - which includes keeping the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans while balancing the budget – ‘doesn't add up.’”

More: “Taking the argument directly to Cantor and other Republican leaders is part of a new, aggressive approach for Obama, who has been criticized by members of his party for being too cautious and concerned about offending his opponents. With five weeks until the midterm elections, Obama seems to be shedding some of that caution in favor of a sharper tone aimed at Republicans - and even Democrats.”

Cantor’s response: “After Wednesday's event, Cantor accused Obama of being ‘out of touch’ and trying to ‘demonize success.’ ‘President Obama may want to pretend otherwise, but the stale message that he brought to Virginia today won't help a single person get back to work, and that's where my focus is,’ Cantor said in a statement.”

The AP points out the constant absent foe in President Obama’s backyard visits: the GOP. “Despite all his mingling with middle class voters… Obama's chief focus was on people who never showed up: congressional Republicans and their corporate allies who, the president said, are trying to thwart his administration's progress and turn the clock back to the George W. Bush era.”

After meeting with congressional Democratic leadership this morning in the Oval Office, including Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, the president will help raise money for the Democratic National Committee at a private residence in Washington. He will also make remarks at a DNC event.

Poor Eric Cantor, he must have taken the same "fuzzy math class" that george bush took when they were in high school.

Obama needs to improve his math not Cantor

Socialism and wealth distribution do not work

Or else why is Obamacare causing 30,000 McDonalds Employees to LOSE their healthcare coverage?

McDonalds just might be able to provide Obamacare mandated coverage if they charge $10/ burger

But then they would go Bankrupt

Just like Obama is leading our nation

The true question to the current lot of Republicans is not needing jobs but exactly how they intend to create these jobs. The standard answer you get from them is we need to lower taxes on the wealthy as these are the poeple who create jobs. I guess they are not going to recognize the report out this week showing the top 20% of the wealthy own nearly half of the wealth in the U.S. and by the way, where are those jobs that the wealthy should be creating with all that wealth?

The GOP are not about what they say, but about the complete opposite of what they say, so seems right on track for them. Facts mean nothing to Republicans nor does math listen to the President and go vote.

I believe that presient Obama keeps bringing president Bush into his conversations to direct attention away from himself and the lack of his own experience. He should evaluate his own way of figuring and see where his math has failed and where the state of economy is twenty one months after he began directing the plays. Tell me ,why has his popularity taken such a steep nose dive . In time America will reverse this downward trend ,but not until we elect a new mathaticion.

GOD BLESS AMERICA and protect us from evil.

The same old complaint about blaming it on Bush. Well, since it was his policies and the rubber stamping Republican controlled congress from 2001 - 2007 that implemented the policies that caused the problem, then yes, Bush should still be blamed. By your logic, all criminals should be released from prison because their crime happened in the past and we can't go on blaming them for the damage they have caused.

What happened to the Republican chant of taking responsibility for your mistakes? When you guys stop blaming President Obama and the Democrats for the problems caused by Bush and the Republicans, then we'll stop reminding you who is at fault for the problems we have. Until then, get used to being reminded until you remember.

All the data continues to show that the Republicans are not telling the truth about the stimulus, the deficit,HCR, the recession, jobs, taxes, etc., etc., etc.

The Ryan plan does nothing to help anyone except the rich, takes the US further into debt and works to dismantle SS and Medicare using 'starve the beast' tactics. The pledge does nothing but gather about 20 talking points into a single document and provides no specifics on how they will accomplish those goals. One could argue they have specifics on the health care ideas but the things they would enact are already in the current HCR bill they are attacking. And it doesn't even address the top two vote getters fromtheir web site when they said they would use those ideas in their 'plan'.

The worst part is that they said in the pledge that they would help small businesses and the very next day after releasing the pledge, they voted against a bill that was specifically targeted at real small businesses (vs. faux small businesses like Bechtel, et. al.). The owner of the lumberyard they rolled out their pledge at even said he would have wanted the bill to pass as it would have helped him.

The wonder of it all is seeing all of the right wingers who come on here day after day after day repeating the same debunked talking points and arguing for the same policies that caused the mess we are in right now. Then, when they are confronted with facts and data that proves their talking points wrong or their ideas to have caused the problem and will not solve it, they start attacking the messenger and saying how 'angry' and 'mad' the left is or dismissing the source as biased. When asked to back up their assertions, all they give, if they even give, for sources are right wing opinion pieces without any data, ignore the request for sources or data or they just stop posting.

I'm not angry, I'm not mad, I am dumbfounded at the complete lack of knowledge of most of those on the right who post here. I am amazed at the lack of historical knowledge or erroneous historical knowledge on display by most of those on the right. I am amazed at the self-contradicting arguments, the faulty logic and the just plain lack of critical thinking that is taking place on the right. What is worse is that this is not limited to those on the right, there are many on the left who engage in the same mistakes. The reason that is worse is that the uninformed on the right are motivated to vote but the uninformed on the left are feeling betrayed and will not vote just 'to show them'.

There are a few very intelligent conservatives that come on here and engage in actual intellectual debate and have very valid points. There are not many but when they engage those of us on the left, they find out that there are things that President Obama has done, or not done, that the left does not like. There are things the left and right actually agree on.

Most of the time, while we agree on the problem, we do not always agree on the method to solve it but find that compromise is possible. I have actually seen a person from the left and a person from the right discuss a problem on this board and compromise on how to solve the problem. Both gave a little and got a little and both ended up saying they could agree to doing it that way.

Here is a good campaign slogan for the Democrats:"They broke it, we're trying to fix it. Who shouldyou vote for?" Do you give your computer to the child who broke it to try and fix it? Do you give your VCR to the child who stuffed the sandwich into it to have them repair it? Would you take your car to the guy who sideswiped you to make the repairs? I don't think so. So why in the world would you give control back to the party whose policies almost brought down the entire world's economy?

It cracks me up that the right plays the "class warfare" card everytime raising the taxes for the top bracket is brought up. They are the ones waging "class warfare" with their ideas of privatizing Social Security, giving vouchers for Medicare, cutting unemployment, and opposing any serious proposal that benefits the middle class.

Gee Madison, could it be that these companies just don't want to see a profit margin get a little smaller? I read the article and these companies are refusing to provide data to back up their claim. If Medicare can administer their program for 3% of the premiums, even allowing for a need to double that for the administrative costs means there is still a 9% automatic profit margin built into these mini meds that are being offered. McDonald's and the other companies that are complaining are being disingenuous and you have bought into it, hook, line and sinker.

If Americans vote and put in the GOP in the House and Senate in November, a "Freeze" can be placed on government spending. And if the GOP fails in 2011 and 2012, well then out they go for good!

If the GOP takes the House and Senate in November the American economy will make the quickest turn around in history.

President Obama's stimulas plan is as flat as a pancake and the interest on the debt is "coming home to roost" sooner that you think......and that's just a cold hard fact!

Vote the way you feel in November......I'm voting to "Freeze"

As in "quickest turn around" we will be be going from a recovery that is making slow progress into a full blown depression. Consumers aren't spending, business isn't spending, the only ones who are spending is the government. You are right, the GOP will fail and will be out for good in 2012.

Read that again. This time with feeling. Put a little tune to it.

Write a five paragraph essay on what Paul Simon is saying here his lyrics.

If you have reached this sentence in this rant then you can continue to pursue a meaningful dialog in

this and other subjects--we can actually talk with one another.

The thing is Obama is not on the ballot. The people actually running are not standing on the record of what this Congress did. Maybe he should be talking to members of Congress and firing them up about what they have accomplished.

He just appears Un-Presidential with his constant lectures, blaming and whining. The more to the left he goes the more he will motivate the right. If he is hanging his hopes on the youth to show up on Nov 2nd he better think again.

Like the lady said People are getting exhausted defending him.

Both parties have 0 credibility with me. I voted for Obama and the first two things he did was 1) poor billions into tarp and select economic advisers with a long history of working for the Federal Reserve. 2) tell Pelosi and Reid to create a trillion dollar stimulus package that ended up including mostly Democratic pork-barrell projects. The health care and wall street reform bills are so intentionally complicated that I have no idea what is in them and neither do you. This was not the kind of change I had in mind.

Then we have the Republicans who talk about balancing the budget but who gives us presidents (Bush, Reagan & Nixon) who have no interest in it whatsoever. I don't see how cutting taxes balances the budget. Duh. The Republicans also back Obama's expensive and purposeless war in Afghanistan.

The reality is no politician is going to tell the American people what they don't want to hear. Namely that we are all in hock up to our eyeballs and we did it to ourselves. It cracks me up every time I hear about those evil mortgage companies who loaned hundreds of thousands to folks with no jobs. Who was fooling who? We took the easy money and now we have to pay it back. It will not be fair because responsible people will be paying for the mistakes of the reckless. However, that is the way things are.

One thing that would make the medicine go down a little easier is to see a few of the investment bankers who created bogus mortgage backed securities and their cronies in the securities ratings business behind bars. (BTW they are all guilty of fraud and we don't need any new regulations to punish that). That won't happen because wall street owns both parties.

      Throw the bums out.
