Donilon not interested; signs point to Rouse as interim chief of staff

AP

Will Pete Rouse be the new chief of staff?

With Rahm Emanuel's departure imminent as White House chief of staff, the focus has been on a handful of short-listers inside the administration.

But at least two of them -- Deputy National Security Adviser Tom Donilon and White House counsel and longtime Democratic lawyer Bob Bauer -- have signaled they are not interested in the job. Donilon may be hoping to be elevated to National Security Adviser in the event Gen. James Jones departs, which is widely expected.

Democratic sources also expect Senior Adviser Pete Rouse to be named interim chief of staff, but no decision is final. Rouse was chief of staff to Barack Obama when he was a senator.

    Christine Romer
    Larry Summers

Interestingly, all of these are economists, who are supposed to be able to estimate future results of policies. They see the folly of Obama's economic policies, and they left before the results become clear to everyone. If they wait for the full effect to become known, their reputations would probably be so tarnished that they might have a tough time getting a decent job elsewhere, so they got out early.

Rats deserting a sinking ship is an appropriate description.

Rham leaving can only help this administration. 17 million in 2 years selling political favors (while working in the financial sector which he had no experience) does not bode well for any associate of the President.

Hardly everyone. Did you say the same as Bush staff left? Your descriptive name was more appropriate for the previous administration than President Obama's.

Should be interesting to see who does get the job when Rahm leaves. As for me, I liked Rahm--didn't always agree with him but he is a smart guy who worked hard. Will another person be better? Perhaps. As for WH turnover, it happens every administration right around the two-year mark. The long hours and weekends, the never-ending problems and the ever present spotlight of media as well as constant criticism takes its toll on staff.

No one wants to be a part of this train-wreck! At least with past administrations, they knew they could get book deals! Leaving this administration is a political 'move-up the laddar'; staying with the administration is a dead-end. Can't wait for Napolitano to leave...she has no future in the administration and she is eminently UNQUALIFIED for anything else. Definitley not welcome back in Arizona for any future political aspirations she may have.

What to do? What to do...

Is that the REAL 'world' or his imaginary world. I should have noted that there may be several job openings for Fantasyland. Chi-Town is Chi-Town....it will remain a bastion of corruption as long as the Dem political machine has the money accumulated over the past 70 or so years. I doubt that these are the 'best' politicians money can buy, they certainly are the most despicable. What is truly sad is that everyone knows how bad the corruption is but no one does anything about it.

It was Bush who borrowed tons of money and pit this country in major debt. Also Bush who bailed out the banks so I think people need to get there facts right about Republicans. All they have done is block good things from happening just to make Obama fail, this is not in the best interest of the US, heck it's not even in the best interest of them except for some reason too many people let them lead them over the cliff and them blame the ones trying to help. WAKE UP AMERICA PLEASE!!!!!!

An 'A' for effort???!!! Let's say that your local fire department proclaims its status as having the BEST firemen, the BEST equipment, the BEST response time, the absolute BEST of everything that is required to protect your house. Coincidentally, your house is right next door to the Fire House. A fire breaks out and your house burns to the ground because the Fire Department took several hours to respond with the necessary personnel and equipment on-site. Would you give the Fire Department and 'A' for effort because they had good intentions by allegedly having 'everything' they needed to protect your home, but "Oh darn!!!! The former Fire Chief forgot to pay the gas credit card bill and the fire engines were out of gas...it's not my fault!"?

Iowans are such well-informed, conscientious voters. Look and see what they do in November and you will know what's going to happen in 2012! Can't wait! We are really a cross-section of this nation that demands our elected officials be held accountable for the decisions of the Federal government. We shall see, my friends, we shall see.

That's the biggest load of you-know-what that I've ever heard.

Iowans are the biggest morons in America. Iowans are still in bed when everyone else is on their feet thinking clearly. Iowans gave Bob Dole two major victories and the American people rejected Dole overwhelmingly. Iowans went for the likes of Dick Gephardt, Mike Huckabee, and Tom Harkin--all has-beens and wanna-bes and never-weres.

The Iowa Caucus is the biggest running joke in politics; it settles nothing and excites the media.

Wasn't Rahm at one time with the Israeli Mossad? Time to turn Rahm loose on Chicago. Bring in Rouse and dump Obama's spokesperson who seems to be clicking on 3 cylinders or less these days. Given the promised Republican extortion of a Federal Shutdown IF Republican's are elected, anyone with 1/2 a brain or more is going to vote Democratic candidates straight across the board. Further obstructions, blocks and a shut-down of Congress and Governmental funding to the States would drag America down once again into a negative economic growth cycle.

How does that make you feel, Democrats? Half of his Administration hasn't even lasted two years. Every time I turn around, someone is bailing on this President.

The short list for President Obama's next chief of staff would have to include his ideological bedfellows. That list would include Rev Wright, Rashid Khalidi, Bill Ayers and Louis Farrakhan. If they're all tied up the list could be expanded to include the Iman of the Twin Towers Mosque, the ringleaders of Hamas and Hezbollah and everyone in the ACLU. Mr Obama should have no problem finding a replacement for Mr. Emanuel.
