Incumbent Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., launched a television ad over the weekend in which he labeled opponent Daniel Webster “Taliban Dan” for his positions on women’s issues.
“Religious fanatics try to take away our freedom, in Afghanistan, in Iran and right here in Central Florida,” says the ad’s narrator. The spot, which also features images of Taliban fighters, includes video footage of Webster speaking to a Christian organization and saying the phrase: “Wives, submit yourself to your own husband...she should submit to me.”
Webster, who said he has not watched the ad, told an Orlando television station on Monday that the Grayson camp appears to be twisting his words. “I have no idea what context it’s in,” he said of his statement about wives “submitting,” later adding that he “would suspect that it’s explainable.”
He hasn't seen the ad, he quipped, because "my wife asked me not to watch it, and I submitted."
NBC's First Read puts this race in the top 30 of its "Field of 64" House seats likely to change hands in November.

I as an independent I dont give a rats azz about argueing about right or left conservative or liberal. I want someone in Congress who has had a job, made a payroll, paid taxes. believes in fiscal restraint, and in personal responsibility. I want someone who is willing to spend one term to straighten this country out so it doesnt go bankrupt. If they can do that they will never be reelected. Good they still would have the satisfaction of going down as one of the best presidents, senators, or congressman that ever served. Lets get off the pot before its too late.l

Grayson is very outspoken and passionate in what he believes. He calls it like it is. Webster is just another religious fanatic, pandering to the ignorant and superstitious among us. While some may be turned off by Grayson's style, he's usually right on the issues. It's time to elect legislators, who can work on reasonable solutions to our economic malaise, and stop using unimportant social wedge issues to distract from what's needed to be done.
People of Florida. You should be embarrassed that someone like Grayson won election and is represetning you! He is a clown. Heck, vote for a dog or a cat or any other species and you would be better off than have a baffoon like him in Congress. Don't ya get it? He is an idiot who brings nothing to the Congress when we need serious people who are going to turn this coutnry around again.
If a nut like Michelle Bachmann can get elected to congress, no one should complain about Grayson. He sometimes engages in hyperbole and goes over the top, but he's a smart, compassionate legislator. He serves Florida well. Congress has many buffoons and clowns and they're mostly on the right.
Grayson is a true man and not afraid to stand up to any one in congress he should be the speaker of the House and he would put people like Jonh Boehner in his place . and keep him there . Go ALAN

If you REALLY UNDERSTOOD the conservative movement you would probably agree with most of the basic philosophy. I'm not talking about political parties, I'm talking about a movement. The Dems and GOP represent most Americans poorly...agree?? Taxes are a neccessity, it is the abuse and waste that can go on no longer. I believe we have an obligation to care for our citizens who cannot care for themselves, mostly the elderly and the very young. No one is calling for an end to school lunches, we are calling for an end to the abuse of it. No one is calling for the end of Medicad, Medicare, etc...we are calling for an end to the abuse of it.
To label every conservative a "racist" is factually incorrect and wrong. Do racists exist in the conservative movement..YES, do racists exist in the left...YES, but racism is not the defining identity in either political philosophy. If the waste, and corruption were exposed, then agressively stopped to the degree it can be, the US would have enough funds to more than adequately provide for the elderly and young.
I could care less what goes on between two consenting adults in the privacy of their bedroom, I don't want any government body in my bedroom, and they shouldn't be in anyone elses. See, those in power, our "representatives", are the only ones that win when they can convince us "they" are the answer to our problems. They are the only ones that win when citizens, like you and I, DEvolve into name calling, and outright hatred of each other.

Actually, Olbermann disagrees with Dems all the time, which you would know if you actually watched it instead of giving the "Faux News" talking points. Since I do watch it, and watch "Faux News" for comedy relief, I can tell you that Olbermann doesn't hate them, he does deplore lying however, as most erudite people do, which automatically subtracts the "Faux News devotees from the mix.

I have told you what Webster believes, that Jefferson would agree that right wing "Christians" have no place in secular government. Which, therefore, erases any charge of bigotry. Before any of you think Grayson is the greatest thing to bash a Christian, and marvel at the level of his "honesty", you should realize the entire ad is BS. Grayson took Webster's comments and did some HEAVY editing. Funny how leaving out a key word like "don't" can change the meaning of a statement. Grayson is a pathetic moron who should be tossed out. Grayson purposely ran this ad knowing it was a lie and that he used doctored foot from a speech given by his opponent. From what I understand the ad is starting to back fire on Grayson. If you are proud of Grayson then you need to seek professional medical help. Further I am willing to bet that you never saw the whole tape that the comments were taken from.

Now, what if a woman was in a marriage with an abuser (I find it to be the cowards amongst the men who believe in this garbage) and abusing the children. She would have no right to divorce. Really? He could have been talking religion, taxes, abortion or healthcare, it doesn't matter. What DOES matter is Grayson's knowing use of DOCTORED video to make it look like Webster was saying something he wasn't. I agree politics are dirty, but Grayson takes to to a new level. Not once in the original video is he claining his wife should "submit to him". Quite clearly he is saying the exact opposite, yet Grayson edits the clip to show just those words. I can't say it clearly enough: Grayson is a moron and a disgrace to ALL politicians, if not the human race. You should both think twice about defending his actions.

I absolutely do not agree with you Ventura, because I think the evidence is there that Webster IS a religious nut and believes exactly what that ad implies. I also agree with Anita that this is pretty selective outrage given the ads the Republicans have run over the years. Remember Willie Horton? I like Grayson, he is direct and stands for what he says he believes. I don't consider this important, except the idea that we don't need another religious nut in Congress.
