Grayson labels opponent 'Taliban Dan'

Here’s one way to bring some attention to your contested congressional race: Give your opponent a catchy nickname linking him to a ruthless terrorist group.

Incumbent Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., launched a television ad over the weekend in which he labeled opponent Daniel Webster “Taliban Dan” for his positions on women’s issues.

“Religious fanatics try to take away our freedom, in Afghanistan, in Iran and right here in Central Florida,” says the ad’s narrator. The spot, which also features images of Taliban fighters, includes video footage of Webster speaking to a Christian organization and saying the phrase: “Wives, submit yourself to your own husband...she should submit to me.”

Webster, who said he has not watched the ad, told an Orlando television station on Monday that the Grayson camp appears to be twisting his words. “I have no idea what context it’s in,” he said of his statement about wives “submitting,” later adding that he “would suspect that it’s explainable.”

He hasn't seen the ad, he quipped, because "my wife asked me not to watch it, and I submitted."

NBC's First Read puts this race in the top 30 of its "Field of 64" House seats likely to change hands in November.

Alex, not that any proof I provide will convince you Grayson is a crazy sob, but here goes: google SodaHeadlines and Alan Grayson, look for April 18th 2010. That is the day Grayson barges into a private meeting in a public restaraunt and begins screaming at the people, this is all caught on video.

every one says they want honesty and openness in their politicians, but when one honest guy stood up and openly told you his thoughts and ideas ,you all went running and hid your heads. you couldn't handle honesty. now don't you wish Tom Tancredo was back

I as an independent I dont give a rats azz about argueing about right or left conservative or liberal. I want someone in Congress who has had a job, made a payroll, paid taxes. believes in fiscal restraint, and in personal responsibility. I want someone who is willing to spend one term to straighten this country out so it doesnt go bankrupt. If they can do that they will never be reelected. Good they still would have the satisfaction of going down as one of the best presidents, senators, or congressman that ever served. Lets get off the pot before its too late.l

You should not have EVEN posted this-- DO YOU honestly think that one person or one term can FIX what it took EIGHT 8 years of REPUBLICAN rule to to f UP? You are truly naive...

Tell me something...do you think that ONE person in the Senate and Congress can fix this cluster F? Oh GEEZE...I wish that it were that easy and so does President Obama...

It has very little to do with democrat or republican.

This despicable type of campaigning is done by filthy politicians who, in this particular case feels he might lose "his" seat in the house. Pure narcisism. They don't give a damn about the citizens whom they are "supposed" to represent. They feel they are "entitled" to the job and will do any dirty or whatever thing they think will get votes. What pigs.

Grayson is very outspoken and passionate in what he believes. He calls it like it is. Webster is just another religious fanatic, pandering to the ignorant and superstitious among us. While some may be turned off by Grayson's style, he's usually right on the issues. It's time to elect legislators, who can work on reasonable solutions to our economic malaise, and stop using unimportant social wedge issues to distract from what's needed to be done.

Heck, vote for a dog or a cat or any other species and you would be better off than have a baffoon like him in Congress. Don't ya get it? If a nut like Michelle Bachmann can get elected to congress, no one should complain about Grayson. He sometimes engages in hyperbole and goes over the top, but he's a smart, compassionate legislator. He serves Florida well. Congress has many buffoons and clowns and they're mostly on the right.

No Bell I'm not talking about Fox News, I'm talking about NBC and its affiliates. Clear enough for you. Fox has commentators, such as Hannity and O'Reilly, and Beck, but the hard news people, Shepard, Greta, Brett, do not show any bias. Shepard and Greta are actually liberals...If Fox News had such awful, lying, biased deceitful programming....why are they number 1 in the ratings, and have been for years, with NBC sucking hind tit so far back they are invisible. Oh, I know, because the American people are all so stupid, ignorant, and racist...right?? Isn't that what your kind try to foist?? Well the people aren't stupid, ignorant or racist...they are just sick and tired of opinion being reported as news facts by the lame stream media.

You had Air America and it tanked faster than a flying brick!! Wanna know why?? The American people do not like the hate filled, childish rantings, and that is why Olberman, Matthews, and MadCow Maddow suck in last place, bottom of the barrell, slurping with the bottom feeders and puking their bile by up for the progressive national socialists to suck up.

They don't show any bias? You're not serious, right? You say Hannity and Beck are just commentators, well so are Olberman, and Maddow. You say America doesn't like hate filled, childless rantings? That all the whack jobs like Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh spew. You right-wingers will never be in power. The more the people know about your kind, the more they will be turned off. There no place in America for hate filled extremists. Finally, even though they're number one in the ratings, their audience is still small. The vast majority of decent people never watch it.

If you REALLY UNDERSTOOD the conservative movement you would probably agree with most of the basic philosophy. I'm not talking about political parties, I'm talking about a movement. The Dems and GOP represent most Americans poorly...agree?? Taxes are a neccessity, it is the abuse and waste that can go on no longer. I believe we have an obligation to care for our citizens who cannot care for themselves, mostly the elderly and the very young. No one is calling for an end to school lunches, we are calling for an end to the abuse of it. No one is calling for the end of Medicad, Medicare, etc...we are calling for an end to the abuse of it.

To label every conservative a "racist" is factually incorrect and wrong. Do racists exist in the conservative movement..YES, do racists exist in the left...YES, but racism is not the defining identity in either political philosophy. If the waste, and corruption were exposed, then agressively stopped to the degree it can be, the US would have enough funds to more than adequately provide for the elderly and young.

I could care less what goes on between two consenting adults in the privacy of their bedroom, I don't want any government body in my bedroom, and they shouldn't be in anyone elses. See, those in power, our "representatives", are the only ones that win when they can convince us "they" are the answer to our problems. They are the only ones that win when citizens, like you and I, DEvolve into name calling, and outright hatred of each other.

I would bet you there is more we agree on than not...what do you think??

Fox News sells "hate" huh?? You really are something. If "hate" sells so well, why is MSNBC's Maddow and Oberman's ratings at the bottom of the barrell?? The hate those two spewed during the Bush Administration has become sadly legendary. Give me examples of the "hate", not disagreement, but hate. See, with you progressive national socialists anyone that does not agree with the leftist facism is an ignorant racist, a hate monger. That propaganda is old, and the 'ignorant masses' are not so ignorant after all.

But, then, I don't go in for rumor mongering like the "Faux News" devotees do. It is just an electronic version of every tabloid paper ever sold. As to Maddow and Olbermann, I can well imagine that you don't listen to them. It takes discernment.

Olberman never has any one on his show who disagress with him or gives the conservative or GOP point of view, either does Maddow..

Olberamn idea of a discussion of the issues his LIBERAL Olberamn talking to a LIBERAL columnist from the POST or Mother Jones..

this is why FOX crushes MSNBC because conflict sales, a heated discussion sales.

OLBERMAN standing on his soap box preaching does not..

BTW could Olbermans dislike of FOX have anything to do with him being FIRED by FOX several years back?..just asking..

Actually, Olbermann disagrees with Dems all the time, which you would know if you actually watched it instead of giving the "Faux News" talking points. Since I do watch it, and watch "Faux News" for comedy relief, I can tell you that Olbermann doesn't hate them, he does deplore lying however, as most erudite people do, which automatically subtracts the "Faux News devotees from the mix.

I watched the tape. He does not disown it, he tap dances around it. This is the guy that wanted "Covenant marriages". And again, poor "teabagger" when you can't win a debate on fact you go for violence and threats. That is pathetic.

                                          New day

The speech Grayson edited to make it sound like republican was saying Women must "sub mit" to their husbands in fact he said the opposite

                                          thats called a LIE

                                          the speech actually said this

So write a journal. Second, find a verse. I have a verse for my wife. I have verses for my wife. Don't pick the ones that say she should submit to me. That's in the Bible. But pick the ones that you're supposed to do. So instead, love your wife even as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it. As opposed to wives submit yourself to your own husband. She can pray that if she wants to, but don't you pray it.

Grayson is a LYING POS a joke whose ethics are as bad as his hair piece

What part of this do you right wingers not get? There is NO evidence that Webster is not a Fundamentalist Christian nut. In fact, the evidence supports that he is. You are splitting hairs. Christian Fundamentalists are an anathema to secular government. That alone should keep any reasonable, intelligent person from supporting him.

I would not expect you, Jorge to know the definition of the word "bigot". In all cases, bigotry is a subheading of ignorance. I have told you what Webster believes, that Jefferson would agree that right wing "Christians" have no place in secular government. Which, therefore, erases any charge of bigotry. But, I do know that when the right wing have nothing of value to add, they insult people. Part of that "Christian" belief, Jorge?

How did you get "bigot" of of Newday's response?...Newday isn't a bigot because she chose to express a well made point...

Before any of you think Grayson is the greatest thing to bash a Christian, and marvel at the level of his "honesty", you should realize the entire ad is BS. Grayson took Webster's comments and did some HEAVY editing. Funny how leaving out a key word like "don't" can change the meaning of a statement. Grayson is a pathetic moron who should be tossed out. Webster's full comment:

CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE DANIEL WEBSTER, R-FLA.: So write a journal. Second, find a verse. I have a verse for my wife. I have verses for my wife. Don't pick the ones that say she should submit to me. That's in the Bible. But pick the ones that you're supposed to do. According to Grayson:

WEBSTER: Wives submit yourself to your own husband.

WEBSTER: She should submit to me. That's in the Bible.

Why is this EVEN moving to a conservation about Christianity? It wasn't about Christianity from the on-set...

It was about women's rights and Websters ideaology...my gosh! How did we get here?...

Grayson didn't BASH Christians and real Christians wouldn't argue about it if he did because the word of God doesn't need defending...

Webster's view of women's rights are pretty much in line with yours, I believe, not the Taliban. The point is, Grayson completely manipulated Webster's words and he knew it, and refuses to remove the ad. He's a pathetic moron. I wish I could move to Orlando just to vote against him.

Bush was the worst person of all when it came down to placing religion in politics...just because he receive a revelation about his OWN personal life...he sought to impose his ideaology on a Nation and Republican's followed suit...and they haven't let up...

Personally I think it was one of the most terrible ads I have seen in my life. Grayson purposely ran this ad knowing it was a lie and that he used doctored foot from a speech given by his opponent. From what I understand the ad is starting to back fire on Grayson. If you are proud of Grayson then you need to seek professional medical help. Further I am willing to bet that you never saw the whole tape that the comments were taken from.

Now, what if a woman was in a marriage with an abuser (I find it to be the cowards amongst the men who believe in this garbage) and abusing the children. She would have no right to divorce. Really? No, this dude is no mainstreamer.

Grayson took comments made by Webster and completely changed the context of what he was saying for his political gain. The subject is irrelevant. He could have been talking religion, taxes, abortion or healthcare, it doesn't matter. What DOES matter is Grayson's knowing use of DOCTORED video to make it look like Webster was saying something he wasn't. I agree politics are dirty, but Grayson takes to to a new level. Not once in the original video is he claining his wife should "submit to him". Quite clearly he is saying the exact opposite, yet Grayson edits the clip to show just those words. I can't say it clearly enough: Grayson is a moron and a disgrace to ALL politicians, if not the human race. You should both think twice about defending his actions.

I also agree with Anita that this is pretty selective outrage given the ads the Republicans have run over the years. Remember Willie Horton?
