The White House will name Elizabeth Warren to a special advisory role to the White House and the Treasury Department, NBC’s Athena Jones reported yesterday. Warren will be tasked with helping set up the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau called for by the financial regulatory overhaul. The announcement will come this week.
The Washington Post: By appointing Warren to a post within the administration - much as the White House did with 'car czar' Steven Rattner and 'compensation czar' Kenneth Feinberg - Obama would free her to act as the bureau's director almost immediately while avoiding a confirmation battle... Scores of Obama nominations far less polarizing than Warren's have languished in the divided Senate for months. Warren herself has told allies on Capitol Hill that she would prefer to be assigned on a temporary basis, rather than enduring a prolonged confirmation process. On the other hand, a White House appointment that bypasses the Senate risks infuriating lawmakers on both sides of the aisle."

With this immediate appointment to avoid a confirmation battle, once again, President Obama demonstrates a leader with keen insight toward moving above the partisanship of the "NOPE" from republican wrangling. Excellent, Mr President, thank you very much for maintaing civility.
Listening to all the qualifications that Ms. Warren has for this position it would seem like political suicide for anyone to oppose her, the republicans should be thankful they were not in that position because we all know if they vote to approve anything or anyone put forth by President Obama the teabaggers are going to use it to run against them. This will be a very good thing for the American consumer, I sure hope this board will shut down all those check cashing businesses that overcharge interest to those who can afford to pay it the least and I hope they can help reign in the over priced credit card interest rates. That would be a big help those working families who use them for emergencies or to just begin to establish a good credit rating (which is what they should be used for). This is a good day for the working class in America!
President Bush made John Bolton our UN rep on a recess appointment, and I think President Obama should do the same with Elizabeth Warren. Then try to get her confirmed. And 'both sides of the aisle will get angry'? Not so. A majority of Democratic senators support her. Running consumer protection is too important to wait.
I agree with FANCY THAT do it President make a recess appointment for ms Warren and this country .we need more people like her .
We do need to keep the rotten apple on a short leash!
"a leader with keen insight toward moving above the partisanship of the "NOPE" from republican wrangling. Excellent, Mr President, thank you very much for maintaing civility."
Yes, that is right, how to maintain "civility"... ignore that annoying Constitution with its requirements of having the Senate vote to approve executive branch appointments...move above the wrangling.
Using that solid logic, the next keen insight by Dear Leader would be to move above the partisan wrangling by ignoring all that Constitutional stuff about elections and such....
Did It ever occur to you that this has been going on for the last 200 years, this is nothing new. History is very interesting. The GOP would like to have the public believe different. I am proud to know that we the people see through the party of no. The bought and paid for Republican Party is living up to their potential of being the party of no . The law allows ways and means to overcome such obstructionist and deconstructionist. I love the USA and its Constitution and that Our President is moving the country ahead for the good of the people. He will get things done for the people and as the news says we are now out of the recession that the GOP put us in during the last administration. Our president tried to work with the party of NO, but they said in the beginning they would stop him from succeeding.
