Ralston vs. Team Angle

Hell hath no fury like a journalist scorned, and famed Nevada political Jon Ralston is blasting Sharron Angle's campaign for backing out of a seemingly agreed-upon debate with Harry Reid, which Ralston was going to moderate.

In Ralston's tick-tock of what happened, he concludes:

This is all about a campaign organization riven by personality conflicts between seasoned pros and amateurs, and a candidate torn between longtime friends and operatives parachuted in to save her. [Campaign spokesman Jerry] Stacy is trying to use the campaign's previous insistence on having a debate before early voting starts as a fig leaf, but it is not a very effective one since Oct. 21 is still just under two weeks before the balloting. This is about ego and inside baseball (do they think anyone cares when the debate is or will care about Stacy's demand about the early voting cutoff?) Besides, Angle can’t get away from that public commitment and I have been told it’s not over yet. We shall see.

I guess 'main-stream' candidates don't DO debates!

Never saw that one coming... *insert snark* lmao

What? She wasn't going to get 1.8 million in campaign funds like the mummy in AZ?

No advisor would dream of letting her go live against Reid. He'd rip her a new one. Must see TV.

Unfortunately, there's no real penalty for candidates who duck hard questions and debates. Instead, they speak through 30 second sound bites and lie through their teeth.

Wow, good for the journalist.

Guess Angle figures people should just vote for her without seeing how she does in a debate. Debates are not necessarily about the content but rather the ability to explain an idea, to persuade the audience that you are the best choice. I can't vote in AZ but in Iowa I expect the candidates for major office to debate, I want to hear ideas and why they think those views are right or wrong. Bet Jan Brewer's disastrous debate had an influence.

I think the Jury is already in on GOP new ideas. The GOP does not have any new idea to move the country forward.

Which is why debates are now avoided by GOP Sharon Angle (in NV), Rick Scott (in FL), Rick Perry (in TX), Meg Whitman (in CA) and the wacko GOP Rep Steve King in Iowa.

It's too bad the expectations for candidates have fallen so low. Apparently, they no longer have to demonstrate to the voters how they would be the better candidate than their opponent. There was a time when a candidate who refused to debate would not even be considered legitimate. What kind of government can we expect when the bar is set at the lowest common denominator?

Run Angle Run. See Angle run. Too stupid to debate. She knows she has nothing to say and is scared of looking like the stupid person she is. Remember, she only wants to speak to people who are her friends and will only ask her questions that she wants to answer. A debate means being able to show that you are qualified for the position that you seek. Even Sharon Angle knows she is not close to being qualified.

Sharon Angle is too dumb to be a senator. People of Nevada, do you really want this person in charge of your livelihood. I sure has heck wouldn't.

I hate to pop some bubbles here but a few hundred union members are going to protest. Do any of you know how many union members there are in Vegas. Hint a few hundred doesn't even come close to 2ND. shift of MGM. another fact. When shop steward calls for pickets they choose those with the lowest seniority and you go.(it's 100+)and some brownie pointers just a little union note. Reid will probably lose. Why 14% unemployment One of the Highest foreclosure in the Nation. If you think Vegas is bad, take a look at Reno, Tahoe BUT........

Angle is probably going to wait to use her "nuke" ad. Maybe late October. What nuke ad you ask It will show The President not once but twice about how people should save their money instead of going to Vegas. How Company's should not waste money by going to Vegas. Major Companies cancelled and not just a few. Smaller companies cancelled. A lot of companies USE to award bonus packages to Employees to Vegas. Companies sold out Condos They did everything they could to distance themselves from Vegas, Reno and yes people listen to him. Thousands have been laid off The companies are still not coming back. a couple of clips a couple of twist here and there. Reid loses.

Because the pictures and clips will show Reid with President Obama as he helped destroy Vegas

Thats lame, Bangor909... The message was to spend your money wisely... You're out of work or your wife just got laid off, you have some savings, and you want them to go to Vegas and gamble? Please!

Every state is in the same boat as the federal government... The less working people, the lower the tax base = reduced revenues. And the GOP wants more tax cuts... right...

Although I've never been a big fan of Harry, he does has a brain...

Vegas is where we go when times are good - and money isn't a problem. Until this economy gets turned around, people in the 'for grins' industry need to find new work.

The only way to stop candidates in their tracks when they refuse to debate is to award the entire time to their opposition. Give them the entire time to explain how they see the country, and how they plan on moving it forward. It might make some of these cowards think twice about refusing to place themselves in front of their constituents to make themselves available for questions. I would not vote for a candidate that refused to debate.

SMART! If I was Reid he should announce he'll be there anyway, i.e., "we had a debate scheduled, and I'm here."

I wonder if we'll see anyone in a chicken suit at Angle's next appearance(s).

She's a failure and woefully unprepared for the office. If she wins I pity NV. Ensign is a disgrace enough. Speaking of Ensign, that trainwreck scandal of his has been awfuly quiet of late...

            2010: Game's not over

            by kos

Fri Sep 10, 2010 at 12:55:17 PM PDT

As bad as things are for Democrats this year, fact is, we're still in the game, the battleground races are tight, and there's still a very real chance that we can greatly minimize the damage. Witness the round of polling released by CNN a couple of days ago:

            Florida:

            Governor

            Rick Scott (R) 42
            Alex Sink (D) 49

            Senate

            Marco Rubio (R) 36
            Charlie Crist (I) 34
            Kendrick Meek (D) 24

            Ohio:

            Senate

            Rob Portman (R) 40
            Lee Fisher (D) 42

            California

            Governor

            Meg Whitman (R) 48
            Jerry Brown (D) 46

            Senate

            Barbara Boxer (D) 48
            Carly Fiorina (R) 43

            Kentucky

            Senate

            Rand Paul (R) 46
            Jack Conway (D) 46

And back to that Gallup weekly tracker, which went from GOP +10 to even this week, it could be float within the MoE, or it could be something else -- the Democratic base coming home.

[L]ooking at Gallup's breakout of the generic by party, we see most of the movement comes from Democrats consolidating the base. In the current poll, 93% of self-identified Democrats say they are voting for the Democratic candidate, up from 88% in the previous wave. Republican support for the Republican candidate dropped just slightly (96% to 93%). The difference in base consolidation is now even, for the first time in a month. The chart below shows this metric since Gallup began nightly tracking in March.

Don't celebrate yet. That could all be float within the MoE. But the trends are certainly look good. Remember, the intensity gap is the game. The more we narrow it, the weaker the gains the GOP will make. And losing 25 seats (about the historical average for the party of a first-term president) would actually be a progressive victory if the bulk of that lot are obnoxious Blue Dogs, not to mention the GOP infighting after having measured the drapes in the Speaker's office.

There are very few places in this country where we don't have a tough and competitive race to engage in. You can give to our O2B candidates, give to your local candidates, start working your social circle, getting people ready to vote.

We have to narrow the enthusiasm gap, and if we don't do it FOR Democrats (and they've given us little to work with), then we do it to keep the Sharron Angles, Rand Pauls, Joe Millers, Marco Rubios, and Ron Johnson out of the Senate (not to mention the myriad teabagger wackos running for the House).

And really, no matter how frustrating the last year and a half was, a Boehner-run House will be 1,000 times worse. We've had plenty of time to @!$%# about our incompetent Dems. Now its time to get down to business and make sure they aren't replaced with incompetent -- and dangerous! -- Republicans.

"to give out a half dozen checks quickly before we got to the end of the month"

              and he stated that

              "so I complied."

I doubt you will do this, they can spot a mark or outsider a mile away But go to some of the off strip bars, clubs. Listen to what they are saying and how they feel. They are very angry. They blame Obama they blame Reid. Reid is gone. Laugh or go to the places i am talking about and hear for your self

So Navadians are are going to vote for the candidate ( Angle ) who thinks they lost their jobs because they are lazy? I think not. Just watching Russert do his puff piece on Boehner. If humble beginnings are enough to get one elected, then Reid wins hands down, however the big differance between Reid and Boehner is, the former has remained humble.

Even conservatives should be asking why so much focus by the republicans on tax cuts for the richest 2% of Americans, while so many are on the verge of losing jobs and homes. Why do the pundits not ask?
