To get to D.C., a Democrat runs from it

AP

Msnbc.com’s Tom Curry offers an on-the-ground look today at a crucial House race shaping up in Washington’s Third District, where Democrat Denny Heck is working to distance himself from his party’s leaders and policies in his contest against Republican Jaime Herrera. It’s a must-win for Democrats if they hope to retain control of the House.

This year, Republicans are running against big government; Democrats are defending the policies of Congress and President Barack Obama.

But in Washington’s Third Congressional District, the Republican candidate has spent her career in government; the Democratic candidate is the one touting his private-sector experience in “starting companies, growing companies, [and] creating jobs.”

This morning when I woke up there were two ad up and running. Both the Republican and Democrat candidate were running for a seat in the House of Representatives. Neither add stated whether the candidate was a Republican or Democrat. Both add talked about changing Washington, but one candidate said he was opposed to Obama care. Sounded like a code word to me.

Given what we're seeing and hearing in the newest crop of political ads, the candidate opposed to Obamacare could have been from either party.

The democrats have had control of congress for 4 yrs and the WH for almost two yrs, yet they won't or can't run on their accomplishments. A lot of democrats running for reelection are avoiding the president, and health care reform, and the stimulus bill. I remember when the democrats passed HCR and claimed it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but now they won't even talk about it. It is really a shame that democrats have to resort to negative campaigning because they are afraid to run on their record.

Kind of like bushey and the repugnants a few years ago, right?

Well, this middle class working family has fared a lot better under the Obama administration with the Democrats at the helm than we did under george & company thats for sure. I know it scares the living daylights out of the republicans, folks are actually going to find out that it is a good thing that the insurance companies can't exclude a sick person from coverage and their adult children who are still in college can continue to have health insurance coverage on their parents plan while they complete their education - but find out we will and most I know are already pretty happy about it. As far as the stimulus goes, I know lots of people who have good jobs due to the stimulus, sorry you lost out. Could it be your attitude? Why, yes indeed it sure could!

Democratic politicians who believe that disassociation from Obama would minimize Republicans' guilt-by-association agenda or temper the Republican/Tea Bagger vitriol are both spineless and naive. Say what they will, but Obama is nowhere near as caustic as Dumbya and his accomplishments are certainly more laudable at this point in his presidency despite rank opposition from the GOP. We have seen the effect of political cowardice during the last 20 months and would all be better off without any more of it.

Democrats need to grow some spine and stand upon their achievements. Tout them in every commercial and with every speech they give and breath they take. They could have been even greater achievements if they hadn't rolled over and weakened a lot of proposals (smaller stimulus, no public option in HCR).

Harry Reid needs to let the naysaying GOP (no...FORCE the naysaying GOP) to STAND AND FILLBUSTER, not simply threaten to do so. If they have the force of their convictions, they'll do it to let the world see the validity of their "ideas".

I maintain that folks voted for the Democrats to bring CHANGE, not bipartisanship. If they run on what they've done so far and do away with the "reaching across the aisle" to politicians who have no intention of extending a hand, then they'll win.

Oh and...let's see some commercials featuring the spoken words of GOP-Tea Party candidates like Sharon Angle and Jan Brewer giving their true positions ("headless bodies in the AZ desert" and "Second Amendment remedies"). Bring it on!

Actually Ginger if they stand on their records they won't win. They'll get the votes of the left but they won't get the independents like they did in '08. Most of us as indies don't like the rising government intrusion in our lives and we aren't happy with HCR because we keep finding out the additional costs associated with it.

And they already did away with bipartisanship and now are trying to blame the repubs because they won't bend over for them.

Actually, kirby, most independents are more intelligent than to have bought into the Republican talking points in your post. None of what you say independents don't like is true (and it is not on me to prove they are not true, it is your responsibility, as the originator of the claim, to prove they are true . . . if you can).

IMHO, having read many of your posts, I think that your statement that you are an independent is patently false. Just my view.

That is how the Dems operate. Run from legislation that gives the people the finger. For example , pull the plug healthcare. Nice Dems aren't they?

    Yo, Juvenile--

Your current and previous posts make as much sense as Simple Sarah on crack! Let's just forget healthcare. We'll just pull the plug on ignoramuses like you. Your demise will be the first official act of the "Silencing Kooks and Ignorant Dumbs**ts" (SKIDs) Death Panel.

Kind of sad really...definately not giving the people what they want. The usual do as I say, not as I do. Typical Democrats.
