“House Republicans have held a series of private discussions to plot their first moves if they win the majority in November -- with plans to use spending bills and subpoenas to rein in President Barack Obama and satiate their own ravenous base,” Politico reports. “The plans presently under discussion include defunding some parts of the new health care law and delaying implementation of others, withholding some of the unspent stimulus funds, and using the oversight power of Republican-led committees to investigate the Obama administration.”
"Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will likely be forced out of her party leadership position should she decide to launch a write-in or third-party candidacy, a Senate Republican said Wednesday."
"The James Zadroga 9/11 health bill is heading back to the House floor for a vote this month, elected officials announced Wednesday."
The 77-year-old Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) ran a 5K over the weekend.

Funny, we already heard about all of this, I did not think it was their 'Plan', I thought this was all of the threats they have been bringing forth. Guess I was wrong...it is all they have at this point, Fear, Smear and NO NO NO! Mebbe they need some Cheese to go with their Whine...Nope, too cheesey as is!!
B. Honest,
You are right on. The republican agenda is basically the GW Bush Agenda on steroids. There is nothing new coming from the right. Just more of the same old, same old. They will continue to filibuster and block anything President Obama tries to do, if they cannot repeal a bill they will try to deny funding then claim President Obama failed. They will reduce regulations on big business (like oil and minning) and more people will be killed in the name of greed and power. Wall Street and Banks will go back to ripping off America and the Middle Class will be destroyed. Insurance companies will have a free reign to do what ever they want and charge whatever they want. There will be only two classes of people. The Rich and the Poor. Guess where we fall in.
Allow Republicans to take over and watch this country become a third world. I'm beginning to think thats what the wealthy want. No middle class just a working class that makes low wages and is afraid of losing their job. To the wealthy few who support the Republicans: "Who will purchase your goods if we have no money?" If you like third world economics so well why don't you just move to a third world country and leave the USA to the people who like this system.
Then the republicans will conjure up something to impeach Obama!! Cant you see all this coming if the win?? But, honestly, I wouldnt have Boehner go measure the windows of the Speaker's Office for new drapes just yet! Remember, the stakes for the gop are VERY high: if they lose their 3rd consecutive election, boehner, mcconnell and cantor are out of their leadership jobs and there will be civil war within the gop!
I dont think voters are going to take too kindly to the gop plan to cut them eventually eliminate/privatize SS/medicare!! When it becomes common knowledge that about 80% of the current national debt was run up under JUST the last 3 gop presidents, expressly for that purpose, voters probly wont be very happy either! We'll see!!
I see no plan. All I see is obstruction. These guys don't work the the good of the country. They work for the good of the wealthy and business. I am ashamed of this bunch of criminals. Anyone who votes GOP or Tea Party should be stripped of citizenship. These people are a disgrace. The Republican party should be disbanded and charged with sedition.
Really now? That's your solution fo people that disagree with you? Strip them of citizenship. Charge them with sedition.
Seems like I've heard this type of rhetoric before, but usually it is associated with tyrannical governments like the Soviet Union, Cuba, or China.
I honestly hope this was just a momentary lapse of good judgement in the throes of passion and not the way you really feel. But, even spouting this type of language is dangerous.
Same old story... two out of control fiscally irresponsible parties throwing rocks at each other over which way is best to create trillions more in debt while serving the financial will of their lobbies. Neither could give a darn past what their lobbies want other than a few morality issues. Everyone is so sick of their Welfare/Warfare dialectic on how to financially destroy the country and reallocate taxpayers wealth to their patrons.
And we have these mindless people bickering back and forth clinging onto the dying paradigms of left/right, liberal/conservative, Dem/Repub. All there really is, is FORCE. The more centralized that force is the more self serving it becomes. Our force is so centralized now people feel if their party loses they are enslaved by the other party and its polarized self serving agenda. The bitter forcing of party agendas and policies have become almost like a revolution every election now. The winner gets unchecked fiscal irresponsibility and the other party eats dirt and we are sick of it.
We need the Libertarians to blend with the Tea Party and all the other independents sick of these two moronic parasitic parties to form something besides the spend, spend, spend parties that both spell doom for America. This is the only third alternative that will satisfy the basic goals of those who want civil liberties and fiscal conservatism.
Fiscal conservatism is the only thing that will save this country. We have to all realize the country that gives you entitlements is also the one that must take them away when they are not affordable. Like a parent doing their job you cannot always give them what they want and sometimes it is very unrewarding.
Defunding parts of the healthcare bill, withholding stimulus funds, that's fine - it is the type of activity one would expect when there is a change in the majority.
However, I can honestly say that as a Republican I am utterly disgusted with the mere thought of "using the oversight power of Republican-led committees to investigate the Obama administration". If they manage to take control of the house and then dare to abuse their power in this manner, I will be extremely disappointed and will work to remove the instigators from office.
This is the United States. That is NOT how we do things here.
We need all the investigations into both parties that we can get. The corruption is absolutely off the charts. Having the entire country financially metldown from a compilation of extremely poor decisions who led to people profiting trillions has to be investigated. But Congress was afraid where it might go. They knew many were accomplices and some still are.
Like the federal government told us about the Patriot Act...... if you are not guilty or hiding something why would you be afraid of being investigated. Well they can live by their own words.
Investigating each other is a waste of time like two Mexican policement investigating each other. They would both agree like two crime families to not bring anything of value to light. We really need citizen action committees to move forward and stay right on these politicians butts 24/7. They should all have in depth financial audits at least yearly and all should be made public or prosecuted if necessary.
I have no problem with external investigations into both parties. You are correct that there is a lot of corruption. But, it is an incredibly bad idea to start having the party coming to power investigate the current or out-going administration every time there is a change. It will accomplish nothing and only lead to further divisions.
I agree with you, JC.
To think about the waste of time that the Republicans would spend on these investigations is really discouraging. Plus, the Obama administration chose to do the opposite with Bush for the most part...Obama said he wanted to look forward and not to the past. Some on the left are still mad about this, but I think it was the right decision. However, from what I have seen of the Republicans in the past two years, I would not be surprised if that is exactly how they spent the first year or two if they get back in power.
The stalemate that could set in with McConnell and Boehner in power is depressing. We've got too many problems in this country and they just seem to want to play politics.
Unfortunately, it is politics. And, that in itself makes it hard to get anything done.
I can see it now though, if the Republicans take over the majority, the Democrats will become the party of NO. Defund the Healthcare Reform bill .... NO! Reduce the Stimulus spending .... NO! Keep the tax cuts in place across the board ... NO!
If it wasn't so sad, it would almost be funny.
What I'm hoping for is that our Representatives (of both parties) realize that we are getting tired of this and will not put up with it for any length of time at all. If no progress is made, the call to remove incumbents will grow stronger and stronger.
The Republicans are doing exactly what we want them to do!! They are trying to put a stop to the ridiculous spending spree this administration has been on!! Only now, 18 months late, has this administration began to try to solve our unemployment and deficit problems, "unintendedly" only two months away from the mid-terms!
This administration has added 3 TRILLION DOLLARS to our deficit in these 18 short months! That creates about 1 BILLION DOLLARS per month that is added each and every month! One need not be a Harvard Mathematician to see the unsustanability of this!
Ted,
You need to check your facts on this. Sounds like Fox talking points to me.
1. The administration HAS been working on unemployment for the past 18 months...not just recently.
2. If you want to talk about spending...the Bush administration started two UNFUNDED wars that have to date cost over 1 Trillion Dollars. When Bush became president, he had a budget surplus and left with a huge deficit. The national debt increased more under the Bush administration than any previous administration: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_by_U.S._presidential_terms
3. "Spending Spree". Many Republicans seem to forget the TARP was passed under Bush, not Obama. Sept/October 2008. Look it up. Republicans in the house and senate voted FOR it.
4. When Obama came into office, we were in the middle of the largest economic downturn since the Great Depression. Almost every noted economist said that the Stimulus was what was needed.
Interestingly, guess who IS a Harvard Mathematician....Al Franken.
(PS 18 months x $1 Billion per month = $18 Billion. 3 Trillion = $3000 Billion)
Right..... and the Republicans all of the sudden saw the light and are going to suddenly become fiscally conservative, follow a balanced budget of what they collect in taxes and get out of expensive meddling in foreign affairs. All they want to do is take the credit card and buy just as much of their crap as the Dems did. Oh sure they will fabricate crisis after crisis to hide their Treasury emptying motives. The only thing conservative about the Republican party is its morality agenda. Other than that they are full steam ahead with unrestrained spending on their lobbies. What are they going to add only $2.5 trillion and feel like heros?
Both parties have lost any semblance of a plan that brings the country back under financial control because it involves tough decisions that would make them as unpopular as a parent to a 15 year old teenager. They have to take a lot of things away that people are addicted to and think they deserve regardless if it is affordable. That is a fact nobody wants to deal with. They just hope the other party looks so bad they can sneak back in without promising to balance the budget and get the lobbies out of Washington so they can raid the Treasury.
I believe the Republicans heard what the people had to say and understand that they must act accordingly. But, if they start spending like they did before, they will be gone in two years and will not see a majority again for the next fifty years, if ever. We have to have fiscally responsible leadership in Washington and if they are unable to do it, then they don't deserve to be there.
Oh they hear all right. It is annoying background noise as they count the suitcases full of money the the lobbies handed them for the influence they are peddling. Both parties took more lobby money this election than any other time in history. These lobbies HAVE TO be paid back or the Republicans will never see a dime from them again.. which means no more power. The are not stupid. They know they need to balance the budget and cut out a bunch of spending to do it. That makes them unpopular with the people and lobbies so they just don't.
They will cater to the financial needs of their lobbies and toss the people a bone every once in awhile at best. You can't owe so much money to private interest groups and focus on the needs of the people. There just is not enough time.
On an average 2 years the people in Congress are not even able to pay back all the lobbies much less get around to the people. When they are almost done with the lobbies it is time to take the cash again and campaign. The cycle is killing this country.
Let me guess the plan is to say no.
The plan is to say Hell No!!!
Where did this quote come from? I'd like to know who said this...oh wait, no one. Just more propaganda from the left. By the way they won't have to repeal Obamacare, it is unconstitutional and the whole bill will be thrown out because Congress didn't/forgot to add a provision that states if a part of the bill is proven unconsitutional it would not affect the rest of the bill.
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A...
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.
Based on the moral of this story, we better not teach our kids to share with one another.
This story has a better parallel to big banks who pushed bad loans onto their wall street buddies who together produced paper wealth with junk leveraging. Then when the bad loans fell through the leveraged were called and everyone lost everything. The only difference was this professor did not provide a bailout.
of course in reality, after the second test scores, the smart students would have dropped the class.
which is exactly what the guys at the banks and wallstreet did when they jumped from the plane with their multi-million dollar bonuses and golden parachutes.
