Conservative Democratic Rep. Bobby Bright, who's facing a tough race for his congressional seat in Alabama, undoubtedly wants to put a little distance between himself and the national Democratic Party. After all, President Obama won just 37% in the district in 2008.
But is this a little too much distance?
The Montgomery Advertiser reports:
Bright, who is in his first year in Congress and facing a battle against Montgomery City Councilwoman Martha Roby this fall, joked that Pelosi might lose her own election, decide not to run for the speaker’s job or otherwise not be available.
He suggested, jokingly he insisted to his audience, that Pelosi could fall ill and die in coming months. That remark drew laughter from the crowd.
Greg Sargent called the paper's reporter, Cosby Woodruff, to get more on the context of Bright's remarks. "He had been asked a question from the audience about his support for Pelosi," Woodruff told Sargent. "He said, `Let's wait until that comes up. He listed a long list of reasons why Pelosi might not run for Speaker of the House."
"The last one was, `heck, she might even get sick and die.'"

Get some help for that anger...Wishing people dead is something a loser does...If your're a parent (heaven forbid) give your kid(s) up for adoption, because you're an embarassment for a father...
this politician has finally realized that the democratic party is one of the main problems that America is facing, they have many Americans believing the party is working for the people and actually they are working for their party agenda only, they only want to control and expand government and spending, if they continue on course we all will be in the poor house before long!
"they have many Americans believing the party is working for the people and actually they are working for their party agenda only"
Champ many think the Democrat's agenda and working for the people are one in the same, working for 98% of the people anyway, I will admit the other 2%, you know, the wealthiest 2% of our nation are what the Republicans focus their efforts on.
It is extremely sad to see how hateful and disrespectful we have become. It is one thing to say something in private, with your family or friends. It is way out of line to say, publicly, about Peolsi dying. There are many unstable people in this country who would actually hurt this woman. Case in point, the student in NY who stabbed a Muslim cab driver. It only took about 2 weeks for this nut to crawl out of the woodwork. Glen Beck, Limbaugh and the other hate mongers are taking this country down a very dangerous road. They claim their hateful thoughts and talk is the First Amendment. I truly believe that in sighting racial hate and discourse isn't part of the First Amendment of free speech. If that were true, George Wallace, Joseph McCarthy, Jim Crow, Hilter, wouldn't go down in history as despicable monsters.
This country and it's people need to get a grip. We are becoming no better of a society than those countries we keep invading. The hate and intolerance is becoming extreme.
I agree with your point about the hate mongerers and what is happening to this society; however, I do think there is a BIG difference between suggesting that getting ill and dying may be one of many reasons Nancy Pelosi won't remain Speaker of the House and advocating her untimely death.
You are so correct. Thanks for a breath of reason in this madhouse.
I don't think it is funny, and it is of poor taste. If this Representative want to distance himself from the leader, then maybe he does not need to be in Congress. I would wonder where is loyalty or principles are, maybe he is not a real Democrat, maybe he'll get ill, and die before the elections.
Its always someone to say its the GOP and why not? When the GOp was in power my income went up and now that the dims are in power my income has fallen. Now lets talk about who is causing the problems? Keep the tax cuts dumb A$$?
Well if you want to keep those tax cuts, then you must be one of the 2% of the richest Americans - which is the only tax cut that's being discussed these days. In which case the average person doesn't care whether or not your income has fallen. Because that means that, if Republicans get voted into office in November, they'll be serving you again. That's not okay for the vast majority of middle-class Americans.
Rick,
All of the tax cuts are going away, even the ones that helped out us middle-class americans. Plus all of those new wonderful taxes for that new health care plan that is starting in 2014 will go into effect come Jan. So, we will see a big jump in taxes come Jan. Isn't that great? I just love that my paycheck will drop. I worked hard, finished school, got a better job and dang, if now I don't have to pay much higher taxes. Its not just going to be the rich paying higher taxes, it will be all those hard working middle class people also. I wonder why all of this class envy is in play. I mean I think it is great that someone has built themselves up and are successful enough to be classed rich. Most of those in congress can be classified as rich, yet I don't see people jumping on them. I mean the president is a millionaire but all you hear is that he came from a poor background and built himself up and now he is rich. Not everyone who has money started off with money. Bill Gates was a poor college student that started a software company out of his garage, I think you heard about it, its called windows. So, why is everyone jumping on the rich? We need those with money to keep their money so that we can have our jobs. a poor person has never given me a job except when I was a kid and I cut grass for them.
Nancy Pelosi is a dog. Are there any hot chicks in politics?. If Megan Fox ran for President i would vote for her just because i want to do her.
And I suppose you libs think that this is the first congressman running from Obama's agenda? Half of them don't like it but, like all of you lemmings, they simply followed the annointed ones' lead. Behind closed doors they grumbled to no end and now the piper is coming to town in November and these limp-wristed lefties will be out of office; they simply can't shake the smell off of the health care debacle that Obama rammed up the people's arses, don't want anything to do with the largest tax increase in history upon businesses in the form of cap and trade, and surely don't want our nation to kowtow to rogue countries like Iran. Again, as noted, the simply won't be able to cover up the smell of Obama that's all over them!

Did you just hit a bong? I hope so because I really don't want to call you ignorant. Rick Scott and Dick Armey rammed flase ads down you thoat and you didn't even choke. Since the passage of healthcare polls have shown attitudes change from negative to positive.
This is one of the latest polls I could find.
http://www.nyuvascular.com/handler.cfm?event=newsfeed,newsarticle&article_id=641131
The public is still split -- pro and con -- over the comprehensive health legislation, polls show. But as the first provisions of the Affordable Care Act begin to take effect, consumer sentiment appears to be on the upswing. The percentage of Americans with a favorable view of the law jumped 7 percentage points to 48 percent in June, according to the latest polling data from the Kaiser Family Foundation. Forty-one percent have an unfavorable outlook.
Keep it up hater; you may need not be able to afford healthcare one day at all; particularly if you keep chocking on Freedom Works, Koch Brothers and all the other front groups that feed you Tea Baggers poop.
Repeal Freedom Works, Koch Brothers, Mitch McConnell, John Boehnor, Michele Bachmann, and Sarah Palin as well as all the other bought and paid for corporatist who nothing about your health or the health of this economy.
Beverly, my bear of little brain, perhaps you might want to look at the most recent polls to see that Americans now trust the Republicans over the Marxist party, er, uh, Democrat party, in the ten most important topics regarding the heatlh of our country; including the Health Care Reform debacle. The polling data states: "On health care, voters now trust Republicans slightly more - by a 48% to 40% margin. In June, the GOP held a 51% to 40% edge on this issue. Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters continue to favor repeal of the national health care bill, with 46% who Strongly Favor it." Frankly, the only people that favor it are the ones always at the government trough, which, most often are liberals or public sector workers (i.e. most of the time one in the same).
If you'd like to check out those polls on the ten subjects, which I know you won't, please go here:

Sorry Bev, as with many of the Democrat congressmen who are jumping off of the Obama bandwagon, so too are many, many Americans. Just happy that Obama keeps putting his foot in his ample mouth; at least we then don't have to see that permapressed smile!

Errr, JH
Please try to stick to the topic. I'm talking about insurance not the President' s favorbility. Besides, FOXmussen polls and repeal mean nothing. The commerce clause in the Constitution does.
Bev, apparently you are like so many of the congressmen who didn't "read" the healt care reform bill. If you read the article you will see that the gist of it was that this particular congressman was attemting to distance himself from the toxic Pelosi. Pelosi is, of course, a die hard supporter of Obama's marxists agenda, so, in effect, the congressman was also trying to stay away from anything that says Barack on it.
As for the commerce clause, the entire bill will be repealed once the dimwitted liberals you support are shown the door in November and Obama is ushered back to Indonesia in 2012.
I see posts here that imply that it was "just a joke".
Would it be just a joke to suggest that if Glenn Beck really wants to be like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that he and a few of his closest friends should just hang out on a Memphis motel balcony?
You would (rightfully) have a cow!
Rick's Real:
You should carefully re-read your post and consider that Glenn Beck has never said anything so intrinsically hateful as your comment.
Not to mention that it is a very, very, bad analogy.
While I strongly disagree with Ms. Pelosi's radical agenda, I wish her no personal harm. Congressman Bright's comment doesn't reflect very well on his character. That it was said jokingly does not excuse it. I think the Democrats and the Republicans are both part of the same problem -- our elected leaders in Washington have forgotten who the work for. I'd like to see all of us ignore party affiliation in 2010 and 2012 and vote based on an informed understanding of the issues. Jobs, the economy, rising national debt, healthcare reform, lingering wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, border security and immigration reform, future of Social Security, etc., are all serious problems that require serious patriots to solve them. A more informed electorate, willing to ignore party lines in 2010 and 2012, would scare the hell out of the current mob in Washington.
We should be so lucky, maybe she will get hit by a bus. Nancy is one of the reasons the USA and CA. is in such deep trouble.
No, former Pres George Bush, and the GOP are the reasons the USA is in trouble. Would you make a similar remark if this had been said about one of them. Disgusting.
Yeah and Bush is the reason that it rains, we have earthquakes, the sun doesn't stay out long enough, etc. Is there anything wrong with the world that wasn't Bush's fault? For someone you all think was so horrible he sure had a lot of power! He may not have been a great President but you can't blame him for everything. Obamaramadan is doing that and it is getting very old.
Ahh, but we can blame him for doubling the national debt, starting two unfunded wars, and signing every UNFUNDED piece of legislation the GOP passed. Bush was a disastrous president. You're the one who said he is the reason it rains, etc., not me. I'm surprised the republicans haven't blamed President Obama for the weather disasters this year; they certainly blame him for everything else.
Dumb comment, Joe.
Jody: Any number of freaks on the left made public comments of the same nature about Bush and Cheney. I defy you to deny that any number of people in the FR forum, regulars in many cases, have made comments, for example, Cheney's heart condition, that convey the same message.
But I'm sure they were joking.
Bright is a Democrat, which gives a whole new twist here as he attacks one of his own. Is he joking or not?
What a sick nation we've become when speaking about the death of any individual, right or left, becomes a joke. Just because Beck and Limbaugh make sick jokes about the death of democrats does not make it acceptable and it does not mean democrats or other republicans should. During the health care vote, a GOP Senator wished that a democrat would be ill enough not to come and vote; before that it was a GOPer who announced that Justice Gingsburg would be dead in a year.
Shame on Bobby Bright and shame on anyone posting who thinks it is funny or acceptable.
The problem with this country isn't the Democrats or Republicans. It is that so many people either lost or never had a sense of humor. Why does every little joke trigger a barnstorm of comments, even to the point of having to try and explain the humor. Life is too short to take it so seriously. Lighten up.
it isn't a question of a sense of humor, there is no humor or anything close to that in suggesting someone may get ill and die, especially a public officiial. If you have toexplain it is NOT humor. It doesn't matter who says it, it is WRONG to say something along those lines and it makes no difference whether it is said by a Democrat or a Republican.
The only difference I see is that this type of post is OK with Republicans who never chastise their party's reps or leaders when they often say inappropriate things about Democrats or anyone who isn't like them or disagrees with them. As a Democrat, I will express my distaste for poor humor or choice of words by anyone in my party, the tone of discourse needs to change for the better, before someone gets hurt.
It is never a joke to wish death or illness on anyone. There is no humor in that regardless of who says it.
Pelosi's netroots type commie constituents believe her to be too moderate, the Union is still standing. They prefer someone with her fist in the air dictating to the peasantry, so she may not run. The Dem congressjerk is described as conservative. There are no conservative Dems. They all voted for the stimulus hustle and the commie healthcare disaster, neither of which is conservative. They will vote lockstep for whatever Nancy tells them to vote for despite their constituents, they have said as much and proven it. If you need a Harvard grad to do your thinking for you, vote Democrat.
Bobby Bright voted against the healthcare plan, not for it.
As a life long Democrat, I can only believe that Pelosi was elevated to her position for the sole purpose of pissing off the those goose steppin' repug's
No, I think her position is to drive Kalifornia into the poor-house, oh wait she has mission accomplished. Next rich elitist to be elected please!
Sickupanfed. Please explain how Nancy Pelosi who is a federal representative has anything to do with the California State Legislator. She doesn't. Arnold S, the terminator, is a republican. As for elitists, try Carli Fiorna or Meg Whitman both of whom are spending millions of their own money on campaigns, both republicans.
Well, she undoubtedly manages to steer billions of federal funds to California.
Even THAT apparently hasn't helped.
If eligible to vote in Bright's district I would NEVER vote for this sorry excuse for a man in a
lifetime of a thousand Tuesdays!!!
You mean all her peeps don't bow down and worship at the feet of the might Pelosi??!! I knew the disdain for this woman was not a party thing. From his lips to, well never mind I won't go there.
Time for this guy to go over to the "Dark Side" meaning the party of "NO!"
Well hopefully this fool will get sick and die along with all his right wing buddies like Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck et al.
You're right Tony!!
You can't have it both ways, Robin, you say that it is wrong to wish death on someone and then you wish it on more than one person. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black if you are talking like that? He was just saying some reasons that pelosi would not be the House leader. she could get voted out, the dems could loose the majority, she could get sick and die. Dang, its not like he said "I hope she gets sick and dies." Lighten up people, don't take things so serious.
Okay, Democrats. We're going to have hell to pay this fall if the party doesn't get energized. Somebody had better get their leadership cap on (hint, hint President Obama) and start leading this party, or there's going to be the worst fall on record coming in November!
He just spoke stupidly, lets all have a beer and forget about it.
LOL! Not a chance! Let him fry! Oh, that's right, he's a Dem. Nevermind.
This is real sick and sad and all too telling of how we're deteriorating into fear mongering disrespectful society instead discussing issue's we're wishing people dead, disgracing places of worship and attacking caie drivers He should be brought on charges of threatening the life of a U.S. congress member and sentenced to prison nothing about this is funny people or right.
Did you ever think you would hear this coming from your government? Seriously, these people have GOT TO GO!!
November is our last hope to get rid of them!
Delana, you need to take a valium and chill out. He didn't threaten anyone, you are typical of the democrats, they say this and it is funny until it is done to one of their own and suddenly it becomes a crime. Get a life!
Tas,
Please, the hypocrisy is dripping off your comment. The hate mongering right can say anything they want but someone calls them on it they start whining and crying! Biggest bunch of Spineless windbags in existence is the American Right!
As for this Moron from Alabama, look at his voting record he is a DINO and needs to just get it over and jump to the Republican Party. What he said was stupid and offensive he is an elected official of the US Congress and should act like one. The Republicans & Dems together should be calling for his censure, it is unacceptable behavior for a public official.
Not only could she die, but for me, she can also go to hell!
That'll make my day!
i find it interesing that so many people put the two political parties down...We've had party politics going back to John Adams ( Federalists and Democrat-Republicans)...and while i don't want people voting in lock-step with their party all the time, if there weren't any party discipline we'd have 435 disparate voices and total anarchy in congress...Parties serve a function people, the problem is that we don't have enough " common folk " running for and getting elected to office. How many in the House and Senate (BOTH parties ) are lawyers ? 90% or so ? That's what i thought...
A lot of you people are clueless. The didn't advocate her death. He merely recognized the possibility of deadth in a long list of other reasons why she may not win her position back. Get a clue, get a life and listen to what people actually say. This has turned into a "spin" society. Everybody just picks and chooses what they want to hear, not what was actually said.
Very, very said for our country, our children and our future.
Pretty strange of him to say that then, unless he knows something about her we don't.
She's going to stick around until we kick her out. No doubt about that. She's got much more work to do before the well runs dry and her country is totally bankrupt like her state.
In San Francisco, the Dems, who control the Bay Area, would never vote Nancy out. I went to a cocktail party in the city, that was a liberal event. Felt like a pair of brown shoes in a tuxedo party. Nancy could pass on and still be elected......
Nancy and her husband have a vineyard down the road in Napa, worked by illegals. Heck the whole Valley wine business is staffed by illegals, with a clinic operated just for them, paid for by the vineyards and the taxpayers. A nancy pelosi idea.
A Dem made that statement about Nancy.....what would the whinning be if a Repub stated that?
This only shows that politicians are not concerned with truth, conviction or most any type of common decency. It is all about election, votes, and financial opportunities from the DC advantage corp (ie the government), which is why the house and Senate had voted and passed (without any info to the public) to extend their government salaries out to the end of their lives after serving even one term. Man, has this country fallen to the lust of greed and avarice!!!
Not to long ago I went with a friend who continues to try to convert me to LA. Pelosi/Boxer/Burton and Obama had been there. Pelosi spoke and even my friend (Mike) was embarrassed. I thought maybe I was missing something because she basically kept babbling. Like she was drunk and along with her blinking bending over the microphone I thought, She needs to retire. Burton her mentor was his normal rude, foul mouth self. My friend was quiet on the drive back and since then has not talked politics since. So the moral of the story is Pelosi serves a purpose she a easy target.
We were invited to an outing with liberal friends at the Pelosi vineyard.......you should have seen her stagger there! Nancy can be as foul-mouthed as Bill.
