Hey Red and all my other friends and family, in-laws and out laws and any body else that might have a care in this World. Took the time and trouble on my semi- sabbatical to make arrangements for the fine folks down at the Dew Drop Inn to open up the bar starting Friday afternoons next week and running thru the election so every one will have a place to go and set a spell, hoist a few and generally regain their sense of humor. The juke box is loaded with everybody favorites and is still just a Quarter and the first round will always be on me for friend and foe alike.

Only hindrance to admission is going to be that big old Bull rider I hired for a bouncer to guard the door. Why a Bull rider you say? Cause he was the only fellow that I knew of that was used to dealing with mean little old bloodshot narrow minded eyes on one end and a lot of Bullsh!t on the other. If some of these Yahoo’s that have overrun us lately can get past him I’ll be more than happy to buy the Remnants of what they used to be the cold beverage of their choice. May be that will keep the Riff Raff out.

As always my thanks to our hosts for giving me a little place to stand, a forum to put it in and a little indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little of topic. Hoping you’ll are having a fine weekend around folks that you hold dear. For my fellow posters. Keep well. Keep safe. And above all else let’s keep plugging. It’s the only way we are ever going to move forward and at this point we don’t have many other choices in the matter.

Barkeep set ‘em up and somebody throw a quarter in the music machine and let’s get the Party started.

This is so cool! Last week we got new computers here at the office (I think our old ones were obsolete back in 1987) and this week we switched to a new Internet provider, so this is the first time I've actually been able to watch a "Week Ahead" video without it freezing up on me. Nice to finally meet you, Domenico!

VIDEO: Calling Obama a Muslim is a backdoor way to calling him the “N word”

On MSNBC’s Ratigan’s Show Friday

When one of my Twitter pals, ToureX, popped up on the Dylan Ratigan Show today, he nailed it (at right around 3:00). In fact, I was so impressed, I tweeted a (paraphrased) quote from the segment:

Calling Obama a Muslim is a “Backdoor Way to Calling him the “N word”.

Godthatwasgood. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Toure. It’s about time somebody said it that simply, that succinctly, that clearly so that even the densest (read: most conservative) viewer could grasp it.

But there was a lot more to Toure’s rant than that, including that pesky “The Other” topic I’ve covered a lot, the “Them” vs. “Us” mindset.

Good grief-buy a clue. The race card doesn't work any more.

It was, however, a good idea for a distraction-trot it out the day new claims for unemployment come out. Who really cares that there was a huge jump when the consensus was that they would fall? 18% of people think Obama is a muslim!!!! The horror!!!

How's this for a new distraction: Iran is going live with a nuclear plant today. Did you hear about it, or were you too engrossed in the news that - GASP - roger Clemons has been indicted for lying to congress!!!

THAT should get the democratic voters out, right? Well, maybe just distract them from Obama's abject failure in yet another area. When do you think he will actually do something helpful in this area-after they nuke Israel off the face of the earth? Or maybe he'll wait until they send a nuke our way.

I'm just hoping that Mr. Petulant (do they expect me to suck the oil up with a straw?) takes a cue from the results of the mid-terms and takes himself on a permanent vacation. Seems to be all he's good for, anyway. Well, that and 18 holes of golf a day. Not to mention hoops.

Second to last weekend in the summer. Sigh.

500,000 new claims for unemployment this week. Are we still calling it the 'summer of recovery'? Or have we filed it away with those 600,000 new jobs Obama was going to create LAST summer. You remember-come on-the ones that never materialized.

Well, at least he's a foreign policy success-if you define success as the fact that Iran is going live with a nuclear reactor today, and will have a bomb sometime in the next 12 months. Great job, Obama! Nobody parties like you! Good thing those parties aren't linked to successes-there wouldn't be any.

Oh, I forgot-he DOES have some 'successes'. He rammed through legislation by arm-twisting, bribing, and threatening members of his party to vote for them. Against the will of the governed-will involve HUGE losses for his party in November, but, hey-it's all about Obama, right? So, "he won".

Too bad our country is lost.

No, joe, no bo -- your anger and vitriol are so great that there must be some personal affront you blame the President for....I am sorry for that. There is a problem with Iran, one that no administration (Republican, Democrat or None of the Above) could easily solve. We are living in difficult economic times -- that's because we are the "children" of people (from Reagan's time) who thought massive military build-up and increased deficit spending were the way to go. If we don't want to do the same thing to our own "children," we need to accept that more taxes paid now will decrease the debt down the road. If you honestly think our country is "lost" today, could you name a specific time when all was well for "our country?"

Reply#11 - Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:06 AM EDT

You know, Kate, we once had a huge problem with the Soviet Union-one that 'no president' could easily solve.

the people in Hungary rose up against them in the late 1950's-and got slaughtered. The people in the Czech Republic rose up in the late 1960's-and got slaughtered.

The people in Poland rose up against them in the 1980's-and got help from the U.S., the U.K., and, (shhh), the Vatican. The pope, at that time, was a Pole.

During the demonstrations in the streets, we smuggled in mimeo machines-the cheapest printing presses available. We helped spread the word among the workers that there would be demonstrations, when, where, and what time-despite soviet oppression, people showed up.

It was the beginning of the end of the 'evil empire'-and Reagan, Thatcher, and John Paul II were instrumental in bringing it down, by helping the Poles.

Take a look at what Obama did for the Iranian people. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Save your 'they didn't want our help'. Bull. Lech Walensa stated that he wanted no outside 'interference' in his Solidarity movement, too- at the same time he was begging for help, and accepting what was offered. We could have been instrumental in helping the Iranian people throw off the yoke of the Mullahs, and we sat idly by and watched the demonstrators get slaughtered.

Maybe that's why he go a Nobel Peace prize? Because he has no idea what to do in a crisis, so he does nothing?

Obama is a fool and worse. Our country is suffering at the hands of this incompetent narcissist. You and the dwindling minority of obliviots who still worship at his temple are in for a big surprise in November. Hopefully, he and his ego will go on permanent vacation when he finds out how the people REALLY 'feel' about his presidency.

That would be a change I can believe in.

Boy, nojo, you are absolutely CLUELESS about Russian history (along with virtually everything else) aren't you? Reagan does not deserve credit for the collapse of the Soviet Union. If you knew anything about the Revolution in 1917, the indicators leading up to it, and the similarities to the collapse in our generation, you would understand what actually happened. But, once you subtract the tunnel vision, you really have nothing left, do you?

Sadly, he also has no grasp of the history of the Middle East.

Once upon a time, we took it upon ourselves to meddle in the affairs of Iran and it's how we got the place so f***ed up the first place.

See, Iran in the 1950s was a fledgling republic with a consitutional monarchy as its government...a style of government it was taught as a former British colony. In 1951 when Parliamentary elections were held in Iran the duly elected Prime Minister was Mohammad Mossadegh. One of his plans as prime minister was to nationalize the Iranian petroleum industry.

The British, as the largest consumer of Iranian oil, did not approve and attempted a coup that would have made the Shah an absolute monarch. The coup failed and the Shah went into exile.

Our own government, however, stepped in. See, we didn't want to get into a situation where we would be competing with the Brits for oil...not to mention that we were smack in the middle of the Red Scare and nationalizing the petroleum industry was seen as the spread of Communism...so it was decided that it was in our own best interest to stage the coup. We were successful, Mossadegh's government was toppled and the Shah became an absolute monarch...check that...TYRANT.

During the remainder of his reign, the Shah ruled with an iron fist. Political opponents disappeared...something we wouldn't stand for today but sat idly by and let happen because we gave the Shah power. But then, of course, the 1979 revolution occurred, the Shah went back into exile and 50 of our citizens were taken hostage in Iran. See, we put the Shah in power.

Of course, Iran next got itself into a war with Iraq. Naturally, we followed the rule of "The Enemy Of My Enemy Is My Friend" so we lent our support to Iraq and their leader, Saddam Hussein. This support continued all the way through the end of the conflict with at one point a Congressional junket travelling to Baghdad led by Bob Dole to tell Saddam that the United States had no interest in any territorial disputes in the Middle East.

All that changed, of course, when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Then, suddenly, we had an interest. So, we fought Iraq from bases in Saudi Arabia. Well, this presence, of course, kinda ticked off this terrorist who was working on our behalf in Afghanistan in the 80s when the Soviets invaded so now he's taken it upon himself to operate a terrorist network against us.

So, why didn't we help Iran last year? Maybe it's because we were the ones who screwed it up in the first place and our help would not have been welcome. Maybe it's also because the cause of those who oppose Ayatollah Khamenei and Ahmedinejad is better served by our staying out of their business.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. - Burke

Was Reagan instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet Union? Some say yes, someothers call those clueless. But Reagan, Thatcher, John Paul II did stand with Walensea. They chose to not "do nothing".

History provides an evil dictator that had invaded his neighbors, had used WMDs killing tens of thousands, had committed ethnic cleansing, had gassed his own people and had manipulated a world organization. The dictator had a history of nuclear ambition. The world believed the threat of WMD. The world tried diplomacy, sanctions, etc. year after year. Nothing worked, diplomacy had no meaning and the world chose to do nothing.

The American president stated that "For diplomacy to work, words had to have meaning." He spoke of an "Axis of Evil", of the nuclear ambitions of Iraq, North Korea, Libya, Iran and Syria. How would diplomacy work, if diplomacy had no meaning?

Once again an American President and a British Prime Minister stepped forward and chose to not "do nothing".

History will be the ultimate judge, but while the world acknowledged Iraq's nuclear ambition, the left vitriolically decried the accusation against N. Korea, Libya, Syria and Iran. The left believed Iraq had nuclear ambitions, but not the other four. It's interesting, we all now know the truth and by their measure, they were 100% wrong. Bush by their measure, was only 80% right. But all that is anecdotal.

It is also interesting to consider that at the time Hussein was drug out of his hole, Libya came forward and said they had been meaning to tell us about their little nuclear program, wanted us to come pick up their stuff and that there were intelligence reports that Iran had stopped their nuclear program. Shortly after that, Bush announced that we were not going to find WMDs in Iraq. The left started screaming Bush Lied! and the rest is history. But all that is anecdotal. Bush at least stepped forward and tried to stop evil.

We have been fighting a proxy war with Iran for years. Iran is the greatest state sponsor of terrorism. Iran is the greatest threat to non-proliferation. (Everyone will now arm.) Iran is the greatest threat to peace.

Iran is the country that Obama said would not be allowed to have the bomb.

Today, Iran is loading 82 tons, comprised of 162 Russian fuel rods in the Bushehr nuclear reactor.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do ......

Could Obama have done something? Did he at least have the courage to try?

Just something to think about.

What is unsaid by you Bob, is that it was the US that sold the nerve and mustard gas to Saddam in Iraq in the first place, and Rumsfeld and Cheney were the ones who fronted that operation for Reagan in the first place. I have seen the pics if Rumsfeld, smiling broadly shaking hands with Saddam and Cheney looking over Rummy's shoulder. It is No Wonder that the Iranians have such a distrust for us. It was a SMART thing for us to stay completely out of the entire Iranian election thing and it's aftermath, the bloodshed would have been much worse had we interjected ourselves in that debacle. If a people wants to be free they will have to do the majority of it themselves, especially in Iran. Remember, THEY have not attacked another nation in centuries, something not true about us, Iraq, Pakistan etc. They have, however, BEEN attacked and so are rightly defensive.

Your revisionist history is laughable, Bush never even tried diplomacy, he went in immediately with the Big Stick approach, Shock and Awe, and mis-spent nearly a trillion dollars in his illegal war, leaving the REAL war to languish from lack of manpower, equipment and money while he started his Operation Iraqi Liberation..OIL anyone?? He sure changed the name quickly enough once people pointed that out to him though. The reactor at Bushehr is Russian controlled and under direct inspections of the IAEA and in no way contributes to ANY possibility to create weapons. Your paranoia is massively extreme in that regard. Actually, Israel, with it's over 100 nuclear weapons and aggressive stance is the greatest threat to peace in the middle east, Iran, in that context has every right to be taking the defensive stance that they are. I am confident that we have enough of an intelligence network in place to make sure that Iran never develops a nuclear weapon or that, in case it should, that we can make sure that it is never used. Iran KNOWS that they would be turned into a parking lot covered with molten, glowing glass should they ever attempt to field and use a nuke, if not by us, then Russia would have a go at it fer sure, as THEY are much closer to the problem than we are.

You can stop with the fear mongering and saber rattling already Bob, most of us are actually Smarter than that!

Ah what the heck, its hot outside, might as well ....

    Hi B.,

Thank you for your heartfelt comments. But, about my revisionist history, I didn't see that you challenged anything. No rebuttal, or analysis disputing specific inaccuracies/revisions. Seemed to be scattered points. Oh well.

Regarding your first paragraph: What you said I left unsaid was left unsaid because it is largely irrelevant.

    1) Your example is the type of idealistic moral equivalencies that have little to no weight/bearing in the reality of geo-politics.

    2) I'm thinking the taking of the our embassy earlier on was a pretty good indication that Iranians did not like us, or trust us.

    3) We have learned how Russia studied Reagan's handling of the air traffic controller situation and formed important profiles on the man they would be dealing with. Considering what America has stood for, what we believe, what we have fought for, the silence of the current President during the tyrannical bloodletting of the Iranian people was shocking. Not until the reproach of the free world did Obama speak to this evil. But the lesson was learned by friend and foe alike. If Obama does not possess the courage to speak out about this, who would ever think, or argue he would have the will to stop their bomb ambitions.

    4) The launch on Friday of the new advanced Qiam 1 SS missile that Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi was boasting about is not for defensive purposes.

    Regarding your second paragraph:

    1) After 12 years of diplomacy, 17 UN resolutions, sanctions, etc., what was left undone? Nevertheless, in early 2003, the US, UK and Spanish governments were set to propose an 18th resolution that would give Iraq a deadline for compliance with previous resolutions enforced by threat of military action. It was withdrawn due to the fact that Russia and France would never approve of military action and due to the high level of risk to the international communities' individual securities. This was covered quite extensively in the Casus Belli chapter of Yossef Bodansky's New York Times Bestseller - The Secret History of the Iraq War. Great read. Buy a book sometime, it will help you immensely.

    2) Iraq war cost was 620 Billion, not a Trillion.

    3) War was legal - Congress debated, made their own minds and approved. You should go back and listen to Hillary Clinton's speech. It was perhaps the most compelling argument of any made, including the administration's.

    4) "Real War"- Afghanistan. Naive and inane argument. Afghanistan possesses the capacity to provide haven for terrorist, but little else, including even toilets for them. Salman Pak outside of Baghdad had all the modern conveniences and training facilities.

    5) Russia is building/helping them with the Bushehr and the Natanz and the Qom and the ....... Putin punked Obama again as late as August 1 when he assured the administration the Bushehr would not come on line before the end of the year as previously promised. Less than two weeks later Moscow and Tehran proudly announced the loading of fuel rods to bring it on line starting yesterday. Who do you think has shown the Muslim world the value of their backing.

About Russia being the global leader in trust and alturism. How about some more revisionist history B. I mentioned North Korea in my earlier post. You may recall we fought a war with them too. It was a war that that featured the latest advancement in warfare. The modern jet fighter. They were very good aircraft. The American F-86 against the Russian Mig-15 supplied to the North Koreans. Do you have any idea who the top 2 aces of that war were? Americans Joseph McConnell and James Jabara? How about Chazao Bau-tun (China) and Kam Den Dek (North Korea)? The answer is Nicolai V. Sutyagin and Yevgeny G. Pepelyaev. RUSSIANS. Who knew Russians were even in the war until recently. We knew the Mig 15s and Mig 17s were Russian made, but no one (supposedly) knew Russians were actually flying them and killing Americans. This is geo-politics B.

Iraq's air force featured the Mig-29 against our F-15s. Their T-72 against our Abram M-1. Their AK against our M4. All Russian weapons. Same for SAMs and Russians manning operation systems during Shock and Awe. Iraq's systems weren't exclusively Russian. The first American M-I tank ever taken out was destroyed by a French Coronet anti-tank missile. Did I mention Russia and France being against the US sponsored 18th resolution? This is geo-politics B. Other than Saddam and Sons, who lost the most in terms of money, oil contracts and world influence/control because of the Iraq wars. Need to buy three vowels? Russia hasn't changed from the Korean War to the Iraq Wars to Iran today.

    6) What is the IAEA going to do, recommend the UN pass 17 resolutions? How'd that work out?

    7) Israel is the greatest threat? The magnitude of this level of obtuseness is not organic, it's will-full.

    8) Confidence in our intelligence network? Good. They are telling Obama it should be about 11 months. Of course they are also saying that with the loading of the fuel rods, taking it out is not an option now due to the spread of radiation. Also it would break one of the IAEA rules about bombing an operational site. They are suggesting this would be a good time for Hillary whip up a new Mid-East peace talk to distract the people. The media will go along with it.

    9) Russian conscience? Yea right. See 7) - Second Sentence.

    10) Iran/Glowing glass? The good thing about the Russians though, when it came to nuclear issues, mutual destruction worked with them. They were not stupid. They certainly were not radical, religious, suicidal maniacs. Obama make that call?

Me paranoid, saber rattling? Nah, rattling an empty sheath? Maybe.

"most of us are Smarter than that!"

The Dutch strategic planning had been shaped by an underestimation of Germany, strong pacifist influences, appeasement policies, etc. They actually built a gate on a bridge over the Maas River to keep the Germans out.

I wonder why I thought of that after reading the last seven words of your post?

In AllBlows world 'all was well' ONLY when the party of stale - male & pale is in POWER!

Then & only then is she 'comforted'...

Fasten your seatbelt as we get closer to November... she's already unhinged with PURE hatred... so lucky for us we'll all get to witness her COMPLETE breakdown!

      • Americans are aware that all these problems that Democrat leaders are struggling to fix were created by Republicans.
      • The Democrats inherited an economy that was falling off the cliff and thank God they have saved this country from sliding into a depression.
      • Republicans spent 8 years digging the hole therefore we voters must not expect the Democrats to repair an 8 years worth of damage in just 20 months especially with the way Republicans keep on blocking everything they are doing to fix the mess.
      • They (Republicans) are now asking to be given 8 years again. The majority of Americans can not endure another 8 years of bad Republican policies.
      • We voted for the Democrats to fix this mess and we can see how they are working tirelessly to fix it. They We must give them time to fix it; the reason why we must vote for them again in November.
      • We can never make a mistake of asking the same people (Republicans) who created this huge mess to come back and fix it because they will just make it worse. They created it with their bad policies.

Republicans keep on saying American people. Majority of Americans voted for this current Administration.

'Republican people' campaigned and voted against this Administration so never expect them to easily change their mindset. Here they are again with their lies and propaganda thinking that we the majority of voters who defeated them have forgotten why we asked them to step aside.

      hey, Sam?

The empty rhetoric won't work this time. See, people fell for it once, and you remember the old saying: fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me? Well, most of the people I know who voted for Obama are already ashamed.

People on this board are always crying that nobody gives Obama credit. Credit for what? Taking a bad situation and making it worse?

Not only is unemployment high and climbing, but now we have an astronomical debt to go along with it. Not only is Iran still building nukes, but they are closer than ever to having a weapon. We missed the window to do something about it, Sam. obama was, as usual, clueless.

You just keep on with the rhetoric. it won't work, but you'll be popular with a lot of the regulars on this board. For the electorate, however, all that 'hope' didn't turn out so well-they got a lot of change they didn't believe in.

They'll be voting for another change in November.

no money cant buy me love, im standing in the unemployment line hoping for a check,,,then im running to the food pantry, and when im done there im going to my card box home for lunch, and i had a slight heart attact and hoping it will go away, before i go to bed i have to find a place to wash so i can do the same thing tomorrow.......Sorry but im not a million dollar man like most politicians who seem to forget that these thing dont exist....Let see they get a regular paychieck, the gtet the best health care, they dont have to stand in unemployment line,,,,YET....As long as american continue to let the long time politicians continue we deserve what we get.....When they go to bed at night they sleep well, while most americans worry about taking care of there families...And when your term is up you can go at right a book about the mess were in,,,,,note while you were there also ,,,,and get free publicity on Fox New....Seem there all great book writers..............more worried about obama be a non christian, or citizen,,,,really what are you going \to do about it buy try to sway Americans, and get away from real issues.

According to Sir Paul McCartney, "money can't me love". On the other hand, it can SUBSTANTIALLY enrich an ex-wife, as Sir Paul found out the hard way.
