Subscribe to RSSNBC's Mike Viqueira, who is traveling with the president in Martha's Vineyard, reports that on the heels of polls showing a substantial number of Americans either don't know what religion President Obama is, or think -- falsely -- that he's a Muslim, the White House is out with a statement on the president's Christian faith and what it means to him.
Attributed to Jen Psaki, White House deputy communications director:
President Obama is a committed Christian, and his faith is an important part of his daily life. He prays every day, he seeks a small circle of Christian pastors to give him spiritual advice and counseling, he even receives a daily devotional that he uses each morning. The President's Christian faith is a part of who he is, but not a part of what the public or the media is focused on everyday.
The poll's findings are not surprising given the scope of the issues we are focused on-a recovering economy, bringing troops home from Iraq, putting healthcare and financial reform implementation in place. The President's strong Christian faith is what guides him through these challenges but he doesn't wear it on his sleeve.

The President should remain above this absurdity, however, the MSM keeps coming out with these dreaded polls on a regular basis that reflect a growing number of Americans actually BELIEVE the President is Muslim. That most folk believe the President to be a Christian is not enough. There is a right wing agenda that seeks to ramp up the fear factor about the scary Black Man in the White House who is a Muslim and everybody knows America is at war with the the Muslim world.

I was a practicing Catholic for approximately 19 years (that includes infanthood and childhood and teenagerhood). I have been a non-practicing Catholic for approximately 48 years. Now I must say I do have enough superstitution that just in case, I had all my kids ranging in age from 48 years to 40 baptized when they were infants, just in case....I will touch all the bases and I occasionally knock on wood. I have on a few occasions attended other churches or my own birth church. But I have no great knowledge that one church is better than the other, or that not being a churchgoer does not bestows god's blessings on anyone, if there is a god! I know, you religious nuts are all waiting for me to be struck by lightning right through the keyboard, but if I believe anything at all, I believe in the golden rule, I believe in being my best self, I believe in giving others a chance no matter the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, their religion, and I do believe that if there is a god he would like my way better than those that condemn everyone and everything for not "believing" just as they do. I believe that religion is a way to control the masses from centuries ago. I believe that finding someone "other" to hate is a nasty human predilection, rather than a god-given decree. I believe that drones who never think about what they do and why they do it are the same as any evil unintelligent fool. And I find sometimes that the more religious are even worse, because they hide their evil behind their religion. Do you know anyone like that?

I believe that the true American Jihadis, those who would destroy our constitution, take away our rights, and foment hatred and violence in this country are the Palins, the Becks, Limbaughs, Angles, Pauls, and those that believe, hang on, and repeat every lie these American Jihadists say. I find myself defending the President quite frequently. Still, he has let me down on a number of issues that weighed heavily in my decision to vote for him. I want single-payer. Didn't get it. I wanted Gitmo closed. Didn't get it. I wanted serious teeth in the bank reform bill. Didn't get it. I'm feeling pretty down about that.
Now, as a serious atheist, am I supposed to be reassured because he prays to the invisible guy in the sky?

My best guess is that President Obama is actually an agnostic. I think he's pretty ambivalent about religion, generally.
I do, however, believe that the President, having spent a significant portion his childhood living in a Muslim country, is more comfortable with Islam than most Americans...this is understandable, given his background. But, it also makes him more of a devil's advocate (please...not literally) where religious allegiance is concerned.
But no...I don't believe President Obama is a Muslim.
I found it interesting that, according to Pew Research, 10% of Democrats believe that President Obama is a Muslim.

I deplore the thought of either situation. I'm just stating that, when you are in the process of condemning a religion, you may want to check your own house first. I agree, this whole thing is stupid. Whether he is or isn't doesn't make much difference because there isn't much that can be done about it either way. I do question however why he said what he said about the Mosque if they knew this would be the reaction. Probably because this publicity is stupid and it takes away from other political moves. Most of us don't care about what faith Obama claims to be. Most people are proud of their faith and "don't wear it on their sleeve". Obama's secrecy regarding so many areas of his life leave so many things unanswered which is the reason so many have no idea who this man is. He has lied on many occasions that you can't take what he says at face value. Liberation theology and the governments redistribution of wealth is no where in the Gospels, but that is what one has to conclude by Obama's history and his own speeches have declared. No one knows squat about this man, which obviously this polls prove, but you on the left keep propping him up as if he is Jesus reincarnated.

Is Obama a Muslim -at heart, or a secret Muslim masquerading as a Christian- at a time the Muslims have become America's No. 1 enemy? Well, we would probably never know. Even if he is, he would probably not admit it -even after the 2012 presidential election, win or lose. The reason? He would rather make history for himself as the 44th president rather than as a Muslim who evaded detection, and managed to become U.S. president. I am sure he wouldn't like such a controversy to become the beacon of his legacy.
Now, playing with the facts: He said at his Cairo speech that "he had Muslim roots." Sure, his father was a Muslim, but did any Muslim roots grow inside him from that ancestry, or was that statement a rhetorical passage in his speech to impress Muslims?, Again, we may never know. I think it was pure rhetoric.
Obama's former pastor, the controversial Revered Jeremiah Wright, said that "Obama hasn't spoken to him since he was elected president, and he doesn't expect Obama to call him until after his presidency ends." The Reverend Wright, who described 9/11 as "the chickens had come home to roost," is a liability for Obama now, and Obama would certainly keep his distance from any "political controversy and/or liability." And the Muslim religion is part of that controversy as well - no matter if we try to separate it from our Muslim deadly enemies. They both flow out of the same religious, cultural and ideological fountain, and they are the tightly knit fabric of Islam. We say that they hate and attack us to deprive us our freedom, and they say that they hate and attack us because we imposed on them despotic regimes that deprived them of their freedom. Take your pick. That is not the subject here.
Is Obama a Muslim at heart masquerading as a Christian? Is he a Muslim impostor who managed to become president in a Christian superpower brimming with anti- Muslim sentiment? Only he knows. Geller claimed on the July 28 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends that Obama "was giving seminars in Sharia finance" a week "after he nationalized some banks." While Geller did not specify when this action supposedly occurred, she's presumably referring to a claim she made in a July 5 blog post, when Geller referred to "the Treasury's Islamic Finance 101 Seminar in Nov 08 right after the AIG takeover," which numerous right-wing media outlets also objected to at the time. Obama took office in January 2009. As Media Matters has noted, the Bush administration hosted a similar seminar in 2002.
On MSNBC, Geller falsely claimed NYC mosque is scheduled to open on 9-11-11. On the August 10 edition of MSNBC Live, Thomas Roberts hosted Geller, who falsely claimed that "it's September 11, 2011, when the mega-mosque is scheduled to open." In fact, the executive director of one of the groups spearheading the project as well as the imam involved have flatly denied that the center is slated to open on September 11. During the segment, Roberts did not correct her claim.
Geller absurdly compares NYC mosque to building a KKK "shrine" near black Alabama church. Geller mistakes AP paraphrase for an Obama quote to accuse him of "a slip of the foreign tongue."In a May 31 post, Geller quoted an Associated Press article that stated: "More than just barbecues and family time, Memorial Day is the chance to honor members of the military who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their country, President Barack Obama says." Geller responded: "Uh, whose country? Brother Obama's latest slip of the foreign tongue." However, the words "their country" can only be attributed to AP's paraphrase of Obama's remarks; they do not appear anywhere in his actual address. Geller falsely claimed Kagan is "an admirer of an architect of German national socialism, Nazism." In a July 2 post, Geller wrote, "How broken are we that we would consider an admirer of an architect of German national socialism, Nazism, to sit in one of the most powerful judicial chairs in the world? The Obama freak show continues and we are his victims. Kagan cannot, must not, will not be confirmed." Geller's claim was based on a Human Events article that said Kagan's undergraduate thesis "cited the theories of an influential German Marxist [Werner Sombart] who notoriously switched allegiances to Nazism after Adolf Hitler attained power." However, at no point did Kagan indicate that she shared or sympathized with Sombart's ideology. As Media Mattershas noted, Kagan's thesis explored historical questions about socialism and did not express personal support for socialism or Nazism.
Geller also posted a photo of Kagan -- who is Jewish -- Photoshopped to look like she is wearing Nazi uniform:
Geller claimed Qatari diplomat incident was an "act of Islamic terror" and rushed to attack Obama. In an April 7 post entitled, "Muslim Tries to Light a Bomb on DC to Denver Aircraft," Geller wrote, "NBC is reporting that a muslim [sic] passenger attempted to light an explosive device on board an aircraft from Washington to Denver, sources tell NBC News -- this on the day that Obama said jihad and Islamic terrorism does not exist (neither does his birth certificate)." The NBC report to which she linked -- a "breaking news" Twitter feed -- said only that "a passenger attempted to light an explosive device on board an aircraft from Washington to Denver, sources tell NBC News." The post made no mention of the passenger's religion. Geller called the passenger "[t]he jihadi committing this act of Islamic terror." Before Geller updated her post to reflect new information, she wrote: "Fighter jets were scrambled to bring the plane down. G-d only knows what would have happened if the the [sic] air marshals on board hadn't tackled him..."
Geller falsely claimed Farrakhan, Ayers, and Wright visited White House. In a March 26 post, Geller wrote:
She added, "These are terrorists, inciters to genocide, America haters, the underbelly of an ugly America -- and they are in the House." In fact, The New York Times reported back in October 2009 that the White House said"visitors by the names of William Ayers and Jeremiah Wright were not the same two men who stirred controversy for Mr. Obama in his campaign." In January, White House ethics lawyer Norm Eisen stated that the "Louis Farrakhan" in the list is not the well-known individual with that name.
Geller absurdly claimed Obama administration wearing purple as sign of solidarity with SEIU. In a March 26 post titled, "Flying the gangsta colors at the White House: SEIU, The color purple," Geller wrote (emphasis in the original), "Yes, it seems this can no longer be written off as pure coincidence. The color purple is the fighting color of this administration. It is painfully clear who and what is running the show. Historically the color purple has signified royalty which, ironically, is exactly how the power mad pres thinks of himself. But this is SEIU, all the way. The Chicago way." As evidence, Geller claimed Obama wore a purple tie when he signed the health care law. But in other photos and videos, the tie appears to be a grey-ish blue. Geller also posted a photo of Democratic lawmakers who she said were wearing "purple ties," but they are clearly blue. And she claimed that Robert Gibbs and Andy Stern wore "matching purple bracelets." However Gibbs had explained in a March 15 tweet that he was wearing the bracelet in support of a family friend who "is bravely fighting cancer."
Geller baselessly claimed Obama may have visited Louis Farrakhan when he went to Chicago for Memorial Day. In a May 30 post, Geller wrote: "How did the President of the United States spend his Memorial day weekend? Honoring the glorious dead by laying a wreath at Arlington cemetery?? Not a chance. It is unclear, but he may have pow-wowed with race baiter, Jew-hater Louis Farrakhan, a frequent visitor to the White House." However, Geller provides no information that suggests Obama met with Farrakhan. She noted that Obama attended a dinner at the home of Marty Nesbitt, which is near the home of Farrakhan, and that the press pool reportedly clashed with some of Farrakhan's men, concluding, "The whole story stinks. Did Obama see Farrakhan or not?"
Geller calls Obama "the Muslim president." Geller's blog contains 267 posts tagged, "Muslim in the White House?" In a June 2, 2009, post, Geller called Obama "The Muslim president." Calling it a "critical issue," Geller wrote in January 2008 that "Obama went to a madrassa in Jakarta," that "he practiced Islam," and that "if Obama makes it to the big house, Israel is screwed. Finished." On May 30, 2009, Geller wrote that with his Cairo speech, Obama "proved everything I said to be true." In fact, CNN debunked the "madrassa" falsehood back in January 2007, and as Newsweek stated, "Barack Obama has never been Muslim and never practiced Islam."

The Mystery Man in the White House has no one to blame but himself and the tinkle up the leg media. The Emperor has no clothes and is too stupid to pick out an outfit. History has proved that most of his policies will fail as we are living through those failures right now. But those on the left ignore history as it contradicts all their fairy tale ideas. I understand if you question if he is very religious or not but PLEASE speak up against people calling him a Muslim. This is crazy. SO -- I wonder why it is no one in the mainstream media has ever asked: "When and where was Obama baptized?" -- or bothered to point out that according to Muslim law and traditions, since his father was a Muslim -- so is Obama. If Obama truly is a Christian, now, than this would make Obama subject to the death penality in certain countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and elsewhere where strict Sharia law is observed...why is ot no one has ever asked these questions? Also - why is it most of th big networks ignored the fact that when his family was living in Indonesia, the Obama's had Barrack registered at a local Catholic school -- as a Muslim.
Baptism is the only formal rite universally recognized by all Christian sects as an indication of belonging to a Christian Church. If we are to believe Obama's story that the infamous Rev. Wright (Goddam America) converted him, then when was Obamama baptized? Merely stating that one prays, talks to ministers and reads devotionals does not make one a Christian....Muslims do that sort of thing to.

Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." Jesus would have us pray in private, rather than making a show of our faith.
Faith is a private matter; yet, I truly believe, you do not have to advertise the fact you are a Christian. People will know you are a Christian by how you treat others.
As far as President Obama being a Muslim, I thought that this was settled long ago. I guess when you're grasping for straws, you'll throw anything at someone in hopes that you can get it to stick! Lord knows the likes of Matt Drudge, Andrew Breitbart et al have become experts at it. Matter of fact, they have managed to make a living at delivering their garbage. As a Christian, I know that I will have to answer for my sins, and all others will have to answer for their sins as well!
To be President of this country is a thankless job to say the least. I would imagine that having a strong faith would be a prerequisite to be able to handle the various difficult duties, and having spiritual advisors to lift you up in prayer and advise you would be imperative.
