EMILY's List takes on Palin

Political action committee specializing in electing Democratic women to office, EMILY's List (short for "Early Money Is Like Yeast" -- it makes the dough rise), announced the launch of its new campaign, "Sarah Doesn't Speak for Me" today at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The Website, SarahDoesntSpeakforMe.com went live as of 10:30am today.

Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, spoke at the press conference.

She said she launched the campaign because EMILY's List didn't want Sarah Palin's voice to go unchallenged. As a fellow Westerner from Butte, Mont., Schriock said she personally feels strongly about fighting back against Palin, saying she is attempting to harness the "independent spirit of Westerners" to push a "backwards agenda" with her "Mama Grizzly" video after "abruptly" leaving her role as governor of Alaska. (The EMILY's list anti-Palin Web site has a video mocking Palin's "Mama Grizzly" video.)

Schriock said Palin predicted a rising tide of these so-called "Mama Grizzlies" voting against the right to choose, health care and unemployment benefits.

"EMILY's List understands the power of the rising tide," Schriock said, so the group wants to create its own rising tide of pro-choice Democratic women.

She called Palin "extreme and bad for America."

She also noted that women only make up 17% of Congress and that it's critical that more women run for office.

On what the campaign will do, Schriock said, it will work to recruit women voters for progressive female candidates like Barbara Boxer and Patty Murray to challenge candidates Palin has endorsed like Carly Fiorina -- who she called a "failed" corporate CEO who reportedly laid off 10,000 people "herself"; Michelle Bachmann, who Schriock noted called it "extortion to make BP take responsibility for oil spill"; Sharron Angle, citing that she wants teen victims of rape to "make lemonade out of lemons."

She said the Web site, which will be used to raise money, will also serve as a source for "truth," Schriock said, about Palin's agenda -- with a detailed grid about what candidates Palin has endorsed. It will also serve as a "get out the vote" hub and an action center for women to engage with one another.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The post clarifies that Schriock said Palin predicted a rising tide, not that Schriock predicted a rising tide.

I love how women hate on Sarah, you are all just so jealous of her past and present accomplishments.................and those future accomplishments. Step away from the keyboard and leave the comments to the people with intelligence and experience.

You know for people who say she's insignificant, you sure seem interested in her.

And, again, we have the usual hate-filled comments with nasty names. At least, I didn't see a certain person trying to "hide" her dirty words by using symbols. For those of you who can only call names and speak in filth, you show your ignorance. I don't care if you like Sarah Palin or not, but you could at least express yourselves like grown-ups instead of like children "talking dirty" on the school grounds.

Dirt, have you made the comments to those who call President Obama names? I don't like Sarah Palin and have opinions about her that are not complimentary but I won't call her names. The same with Mr. Obama's prececessor other than Dubya which is a nickname his own family calls him. I don't like George W. Bush or Dick Cheney either and believe they should be in prison but calling them names really accomplishes nothing but makes the name caller feel better. (are you reading this Eric in Salinas?).

Who are you to determine what this organization can do with their money? You call yourself "in the middle", you are hardly in the middle but more strongly leaning right.

It is laughable to hear the right wingnuts suggest that the left's focus on Sarah is due to their jealousy of her "accomplishments" at a time when the right has set such a low bar for "accomplishments". After eight years of buffoonry and butchery of the english language by their chief dunce it is easy to see why they would consider it an "accomplishment" for a Repub politician to be capable of proper sentence structure. Why then is Sarah lauded by the right when she repeatedly fails even their own low bar? Because, in their desperate search for a leader they are willing to forego her gaffes, incoherence, Bush-isms, unproven education, razor-thin resume and blinding idiocy to regain power even if (or because) her strongest/best attribute is her appearance. They reason that she would most definitely appeal to some segment of the population with like-minded IQ. It is also why even the smartest of the Republican lot would simply acquiesce during the 2008 election, or worse, despite all evidence to the contrary, suggest with the straightest of faces they could muster, that she was capable of leading the country! Republican inside operatives have all but told us that they held their noses through this whole episode. And these devious creatons want those of us who are capable of more than sentence structure to vote for them or turn a blind eye to Sarah.

Well, ain't gonna happen. She is one you've bestowed Messianic status on. You've put her on a pedestal. We pay attention to her not for what she is or says or even how she looks. We pay attention to her because of what she represents: a backwards ass group of regressives who crave power at all costs with an agenda that will surely send us back to the pre-civil war, pre-civil rights era. She represents the glorification of stupidity at a time when we are desperately trying to regain educational dominance. So, she must be silenced, blunted, marginalized and if necessary, annhilated (for you right wing nuts that's a metaphor). Now if we could only get the Palin-lovin' media on board. Also.

Sarah Palin has what?- a two year degree from Wasila community college and that seems to be enough to outsmart her fan base, as a leader of anything more than Wasila (as mayor) she can't cut it. She could not finish her term as governor and her only accomplishment was to picked as a VP canidate by McCain. What has she accomplished?, far less than Hannah Montana, or Lindsay Lohan she has accomplished celebrity that is all. As a national canidate she is an embarrassment because quit frankly she is ignorant. I have listened to her interviews when she was a VP canidate and she sounded stupid, real stupid, when asked hard hitting questions like "what newspapers do you read". Her reply "all of them" which not only makes her sound stupid but dishonest and vain. In any event she has celebrity status, but so does Ronald McDonald. I guess the kicker is that she seems to blame the media for her ignorance, they make her look stupid is her line of thought, and this becomes another thing that indicates her ignorance.

I am still puzzled as to why the News Media gives her so much credibility. She has nothing of substance to say to advance an intelligent dialogue on some of the most important issues facing this country. All she does is flame throw and use code words for racist incitement of the electorate. Palin is out for Palin. I cannot believe the Real America she talks about and I Want my Country Back Folks truly believe in what this woman has to say, unless of course they are low information voters and Air Heads like her.

Following are a couple of quotes from a recent article on China addressing their impressive progress: "And while the United States and the European Union are struggling to grow in the wake of the worst economic crisis in decades, China has continued to climb up the economic league tables by investing heavily in infrastructure and backing a $586 billion stimulus plan.", a statement that would seem to indicate their 'liberal' programs are working; and the following statement "While the country is still relatively poor per capita, it has an authoritarian government that is capable of taking decisive action — to stimulate the economy, build new projects and invest in specific industries." points out their apparent ability to easily control and contain the negative pressures of unchecked capitalism (such as run-away greed, gross dishonesty and self-indulgence) that other governments can literally be stalemated and even corrupted by.

In contrast to China is America actually rapidly declining, facilitated by an unchecked 'more for me for nothing' mentality, and heading quickly towards 2nd class status? Without ever advocating the dismantling of Democracy or the acceptance of a totalitarian government but instead conscientiously asking whether America is actually loosing ground - like in the 'fall of the Roman Empire' - with it being the natural result of excessive self-indulgence? If that is the case then the people, the voters, have to be co-responsible for blindly following where self-interests are being promoted, for not holding their representatives to a higher standard of honesty and responsibility, for self-servingly accepting the subterfuge offered to rationalize the irresponsibility and for being naive in thinking ‘the piper doesn’t have to be paid’. In 2001-2008 we saw and suffered the drastic affects of government being totally focused on the few while giving the majority only apathy, the costs and an abundance of subterfuge to justify and manipulate – we can’t allow ourselves to now be conned into returning to ‘more of the same’. The people/voters have to first be responsible in order to then make government responsible.
