Note: On Fridays during this month of August, we’re scaling back our morning note. But we’re still providing something to read as you head to the beach or take advantage (hopefully) of a long weekend.
*** First Read’s Top 10 Senate takeovers: If it’s Friday, it’s time for another First Read Top 10 list. Today, we release our monthly look at what we consider the top Senate seats to change parties in November. The number in parentheses is our ranking from last month.
1. North Dakota (1): Republican John Hoeven (H to the izz-O, V to the izz-A) is coming to Washington.
2. Delaware (2): Republican Mike Castle (R) remains the front-runner for Joe Biden’s old Senate seat. But he has a primary challenge on Sept. 14.
3. Arkansas (3): Democrat Blanche Lincoln didn’t really get a bump after her surprise run-off victory against Bill Halter, and Republican John Boozman is the clear favorite to knock off the incumbent.
4. Indiana (4): It will be interesting to see if Brad Ellsworth (D) is able to make political hay out of his proposal to completely bar senators from later becoming lobbyists. That, of course, is a dig at front-runner Dan Coats’ (R) past lobbying work. This is the race for Evan Bayh’s (D) seat.
5. Pennsylvania (6): Joe Sestak (D) hits the campaign trail with Bill Clinton on Tuesday. Does that wake up his (so far) sleepy general-election campaign vs. Pat Toomey (R)?
6. Florida (7): In almost every poll, Charlie Crist (I) remains in the lead in the three-way contest for this GOP-held seat, and C.W. points to him caucusing with the Dems. The Aug. 24 Meek-Greene primary could end up playing a VERY big role in how many Democrats support Crist in November.
7. Illinois (8): Right now, this race is 50%-50%. The question is what will be the next shoes to drop for either Alexi Giannoulias (D) or Mark Kirk (R), both who have proven to be flawed nominees. This is the race for the seat that Roland Burris (D) currently holds.
8. Nevada (5): Once near the top of our list, this race continues to drop. And there’s really only reason why: Sharron Angle (R). Harry Reid (D) remains vulnerable, but Angle continues to hurt her cause (example: her jaw-dropping interview with FOX’s Carl Cameron).
9. Ohio (10): Rob Portman (R) has MUCH more money, and is probably the better candidate, but Lee Fisher (D) continues to lead the race to succeed George Voinovich (R).
10. Washington (9): Patty Murray and Dino Rossi are on air and fully engaged on the politics of bringing home the bacon. One man's pork is another woman's jobs….
Others to watch (in order): Wisconsin, Kentucky, Colorado, Missouri, California, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Connecticut, Louisiana

Another week in the ‘win’ column for Democrats…
While the party of NO persists on staying on the path of annihilation of the middle class, it’s the Democrats who continue to do the heaving lifting!
So far this week:
We must stay diligent and continue to remind voters that we don’t give the keys back to the ‘drunk’ drivers who drove the car into the ditch!
Republicans crave power – unfortunately they have NO desire to govern!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… they want their country BACK… I want my country FORWARD!
Second that. Hope everyone has a good Friday and great weekend.
Third that. I want my country to "drive" forward and not hit "reverse". The USA has been losing ground worldwide and it is not because of some progressive, socialist plot, it is because republicans think small and think selfishly.
And a fourth as well!
Onward and Upward. Good morning Red
The first two you listed are positives for Obama and #1 is a negative for millions of Californians. How #s 3,4 and 5 are "wins" for the Dems I don't know.
And speaking of drunk driving, will FR or any of you libs here comment on the situation now getting a lot of press in Virginia where a twice-convicted illegal alien drunk driver killed a nun? That's right.Once again, a person who should have long ago been booted out of the USA killed another person.
I guess I will take the fifth then....lol...make mine Absolute Vodka thanks...But seriously, we HAVE to keep the Repubs from grabbing the steering wheel again otherwise it will not be the ditch we end up i but the bottom of a very high and jagged cliff!
I agree Fiesty, and voted.
It is nice to see Target's CEO had a change of heart regarding that $150,000 donation to an anti-gay candidate. I doubt he would have done so if there hadn't been a hue and cry over it.
Maybe this will be a way to stop these corporations making huge contributions to candidates who have a high tolerance for bigoted racists views....boycott their products and services. Nothing like hitting them in the pocket book.
Anyone know the best link to find out how to keep tabs on these corporate donations?
Good Morning Everyone!!!
Feisty
Could not agree with you more and also remember that everyone should realize when the Rethugs call in the lobbiest that means for sure not for the people but the corporations. Plus they do it so openly and people still want to put them back in office.
I'm for to move the country forward and not backwards. I just don't seem to understand how come people want to remain the same and not to think of the future and to better themselves.
Fishing was fun on Friday and no I'm sorry to say that I didn't hook JoAnn Smith but I did hook if I'm not mistaken Palin (ugh!!). When I pulled the bass out of the water the next thing I knew it went winky wink. So I release the bass so that way she could harass everyone like she does us!!!!
Good Morning Feisty:
A positive post is good for a Friday. Well said. Have a great weekend.
CU,
Yesterday in my neck of the woods a middle aged white guy(who is also a legal resident) got angry in traffic and pulled out a gun. He shot out a tire of the vehicle driving next to him on the highway.
You may be asking yourself: What does this have to do with anything?
My reply to that question is simply: Things happen around the world and sometimes there seems to be a reason but more often than not there isn't a rhyme or a reason. How do you suppose we control every aspect of our world? I know what you are implying and my response to that is that there is no way to prevent bad things from happening. Even if you tighten up immigration you will not be able to prevent this from ever happening. So your argument is silly.
TRR,
Must have been a Large Mouth bASS then eh??
Us Progressives for sure need to get out and vote and make sure that our friends do as well, we need to make sure that the Repubs do NOT grab the steering wheel away from us this time around and upset what fragile chances we have of recovery as it is, especially with them shooting down any bill that they can like they were clay pigeons on a skeet range.
Feisty,
Great post this Friday morning. Let me add a few others to your list. Clapper is moving forward, got out of the Senate late last night. We finally got a bill through to save the jobs of fire fighters, police and teachers this week and Nancy has called all the troops back off vacation (that must piss Boehner off) to vote tomorrow I think. There was a great article on The Nation referring to this bill as Teachers for Food Stamps (referring to the fact the get the bill passed the republicans pulled out the portion for Food Stamps) demonstrating again that the repugs are for Wall Street, Big Business and the richest 2% of the people.
Stopping the oil is a good thing. Now we need to know where all that oil is. I do not believe 75% has gone away so fast. It is out there some where. BP needs to step up and start coming through with their promises.
The Auto Industry has for the first time in decades have all three of the majors making a profit.
On a more subtle note, we got to see a real democrat blow his top (so to speak) on the 9/11 First Responders Bill that the repugs said they would support only to stab America in the back again.
The repugnant Insurance Companies now have the Feds on their backs for ripping off the beneficiaries of our fallen hero's.
Hey TRR I'm in the process of building one of those fancy cement ponds to keep fish in for the RHexST in front of the house. You wouldn't be willing to let a good neighbor in on where that fishing hole is so I could put some of those winky wink Bass in it would you?
Or you can say:
1. GM is building a plant in Mexico
2. Rangel and Waters are being charged on Ethics violations-Does that make me a racist?
3. Kerry might pay his 500K in taxes, don't hold your breath.
4. Obama's economic advisor quits. Wonder why, what comes out today???
5. 26 Billion added to the debt to bail out First Responders. Take a look where that money is going? The teacher's union and city that are controlled by the Democrats.
6. Michele Obama took Air Force 1 to Spain on our dime and reserved how many hotel rooms?
These are REAL issues. If you think Obama's birthday, Palin's kid and Prop 8 that was over turned on the will of the people. You have more to worry about than trivial crap.
108 days and what happened? You complain that 5 days was to long for Katrina. 108 days down here and up to 15,000 people laid off because of Obama's 6 months fear of oil.
Red, besides putting people down, I see you have your priorities in order................amazing!!

Farley isn't is funny that Obama has not said word one about Prop 8. i think that is a negtive for him, lets face it when Prop 8 was voted he stayed away from that. as much as you think he is a bleeding heart liberal, Gay marrage is one thing he agrees with consertives on and #3 he never wants to think about that again. that has been a pain in his ass for months. i know he is glad that pain is goan. drunk driver should have been goan 3 years ago, it shows the failed immergration policy. its like when they get caught they get to stay for a while instead of being kicked out right away.
farley have a good weekend, going to chicago for brithday weekend. at 48 don't know who many more i will have.
Navy,
Post that source please!!! Because if you can prove that it's some how a Republican OWNED company than I back you, but if you're using our fallen hero's to slam a policial party you are one SICK person!!!!
"The repugnant Insurance Companies now have the Feds on their backs for ripping off the beneficiaries of our fallen hero's."
Thanks & Good Morning Everyone! We should be celebrating our success rather than mud wrestling the right wing nuts who can’t buy a clue to save their lives! lol
Gingerbread Mamma – I’m very disappointed in Target (or Tarjey’ as I like to call it)! I am relieved to see that they walked back their foolish decision and relieved I don’t have to participate in the boycott!
TRR – Good to see you back! Glad to hear you threw the flip flopping large mouth a@@ back as all she would have done is stunk up the boat! Did you use Joe the minnow as bait?
Retired – Thanks for elaborating on additional accomplishments the Democrats have made!
Geeze Paul - you sure have you tighty whities in a knot this morning! BTW: President Obama & the First Lady are paying for their hotel with their OWN money! But you already knew that now didn't ya?
Try to lighten up a little will ya? And have a good weekend! ;0)
Paul-Florida
108 days and what happened? You complain that 5 days was to long for Katrina. 108 days down here and up to 15,000 people laid off because of Obama's 6 months fear of oil.
5 days was too long because Bush Knew Katrina was comming, no one knew what was coming from that well.
5. 26 Billion added to the debt to bail out First Responders. Take a look where that money is going? The teacher's union and city that are controlled by the Democrats.
that is not to BAIL OUT FIRST RESPONDERS, its for there long term care. but you know that. i will ask you, do you have kinds in Public school? because your post tells me you don't either care about our kids or you don't have any. teachers pensions don't pay them like the republican have you think they do. and if you don't like the citys that are controled by democrats then move there and vote them out/
Drunk drivers? How about power drunk elitists who think of themselves first, and everyone else, well, never?
Mrs. Obama and her daughter, along with 40 of her closest friends, just flew to the Costa del Sol in airforce two, taking 60 of the hotel's 160 rooms.
Guess who pays for the 70 Secret Service agents accompanying her on this little getaway?
Guess what portion of the trip the Obamas have to make good on-here's a hint: it is nothing like the total cost.
This has been ignored by First Read, and NBC as a whole. Now, think really hard-what would have been the reaction had this been Laura Bush?
Be honest, you know what it would have been.
You also know what the comments on this board would have been-from the left AND the right.
However, no one seems willing to criticize this trip. No one was willing to criticize the decision to close down ten blocks of D.C., so Mrs.Obama could go to Whole Foods, at great cost to the taxpayer for all those secret service agents.
I object to the wasteful spending by this administration on programs that do not work as advertised; I am incensed at the wasteful spending on their personal indulgences.
If they were republicans, you would be just as angry.
I just find it interesting that Feisty Redhead considers two unmarried teenage parents having relatioship trouble a "win" for the Democrats.
I guess that means she would consider Sasha or Malia getting knocked up and having a baby out of wedlock a "win" for the Republicans.
That's just cold and callous.
Paul, Florida,
The point is that during this week many republicans came out in support of the Insurance Companies making the claim that they were not wrong in what they did. This was the same claim they made and still make that Wall Street did not do anything wrong as well. Most of these companies are own by shareholders that are both republican and democrats.
It is NO secret that Republicans are the party of Big-Business, Wall Street and the RIchest 2% of the population, Prudential, Met-Life etc are Big-Business.
I have seen very few Republicans come forth and denounce this.
Have a geat day.
Feisty,
Is it mud wrestling per say or is it the "other" issues you can't deal with? I don't expect you to answer because you can't. Don't know who you're calling people "Right Wing Nuts" though or is that what you call people that don't agree with you? Looking at past posts you're pretty good at calling people names. So instead of posting facts or sources that support your agenda, your choice to sling mud. But if you concider your 5 "events" as a success, then savor that success. LOL
Jeff,
Not talking about the 9/11 bill, the one that suppose to bail out the teachers, firemen, Police. I use First Responders for both Firemen/Police. Sorry for the confusion.
Yes, you're correct that they knew the storm was coming and was warned and even offered assitance to help evac the area. the Mayor ran to Houston and they put those poor people in the Super Dome. Meaning poor, I mean that it wasn't planned out and everyone from City Government to Federal messed up at the cost of the people.
Navy,
That's a false statement!!! Look at the company's that gave to Obama. You might be surprised.
"It is NO secret that Republicans are the party of Big-Business, Wall Street and the RIchest 2% of the population, Prudential, Met-Life etc are Big-Business."
no joe, no bo, nj
the reason why the MSM except Fox news is staying away from Michelle's trip is because the first lady always travels like this. Hillary, Barbra, Laura, so why is Michelle any different from them, also you probably did not notice when they were on vacation because it was something that was expected of the first lady. also you must have inside information about who's paying for it. you do know the Obamas are millionaires!!!!! when reagan was spending so much time on his ranch in calf, did you ask who was paying for this? but i guess you are hold the Obama to a higher standard then other persidents, after all he is the first black president and i know its up to you to make sue he brother is not using YOUR tax to travel.
So instead of posting facts or sources that support your agenda, your choice to sling mud. But if you concider your 5 "events" as a success, then savor that success. LOL

Thanks for sharing your selective reading skills Paul! I have on MANY occasions posted links and facts backing up my 'agenda'... if you chose not to read them well... whatever...
So Paul in essense you're a liar! You really should do some homework BEFORE you start throwing out false accusations!

Paul that not true, Now the former mayor was a idiot, but the day the levees failed i remember he was at city hall, watching the water raise. now the super dome was ridicules, he should have never allowed all those people to go there. yes ray, ray was a idiot.
why not get money to states to make sure they don't have to layoff cops and firemen. i think the teacher part is your problem.
Well I lost count - but Fiesty you can count me in!
And No Jo - check out how all the other First Ladies traveled please. Geezzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Paul Florida,
You are living in a dream world. True both parties have taken money from the above. But it is the republicans that have trashed the regulations regarding Wall Street, Insurance, Oil Companies and Big Business leading to the greatest financial disaster every. It is the republicans that want to add an additional trillions of dollars to the deficit in Tax Cuts for the Richest 2%.
Sorry, everything the republican party has done in blocking bills adding to the deficit is directly for Wall Street, Big-Business and the Richest 2%.
My observation is true, you are the mistaken one.
Paul in FL,
1. Ford is building a second plant in China.
2. Boehner won’t reveal potential ethics problems he has with several House Republicans.
3. Taxes either have been or will be paid.
4. Only she knows for sure but she did say it was for her son who starts HS this fall. She has applied for a job with the Federal Reserve in San Fran.
5. Your statement is just wrong, thru and thru.
6. The media reported that the Obama is paying for everything except the security staff.
Really, Feisty! Best week EVER! Have a good weekend!
Don't republicans have anything else to yell about than Michelle Obama or Pres Obama's vacations. How devoid of thought can people get--previous republican and democratic presidents AND their families all took vacations, all required secret service yet the GOPers single out Pres Obama's family as if this was something new and some evil plot to spend taxpayer dollars. I'd suggest some people are in need of a new heart, a new brain, and some courage--The Wizard of Oz can help you, the "better angels" gave up on you years ago.
This continued Obama vacation bashing makes everyone of you sound petty, childish, idiotic, and ridiculous!
Feisty
Yes I did use Joe the minnow that's how I caught Palin the large mouth bA@@.
Have a nice weekend.
I knew it TRR! lol Our very own FR large mouth a@@ LOVES her some minnows!
You too!
right on jody!!!
B Honest
I couldn't agree with you more!!! We have to get out there and remind everyone to vote so that way we can keep the country going forward. Like you mentioned times are very fragile!
I was touch by your story yesterday on having your own business and then losing everything. But is nice to know that you still have a great attitude on life. I wish you nothing but happiness.
Have a nice weekend B Honest!!!!
IR
Come to Barboursville, WV anytime and I'll be glad to take you fishing. The lake is located in Louisa, KY and the name of the lake is Yatesville Lake. It's a very beautiful lake.
I'm sure there are more of Palins large mouth bA@@ or I should say her followers. It would be nice to be rid of them. I would hate for the lake become over populated with that brand of fish!!!
Have a nice weekend IR
Feisty, thanks for posting your thoughts today - I love it when they line up with my own, I typed this up last night and am just now getting into the mudpit today:
"Do you know how I know We Dems are winning? By the way the right can only screech from one nonsensical topic to the next. While we witnessed a Federal Court overturn the outrageous Prop 8 election results as unconstitutional and we watched President Obama’s 2nd Supreme Court nominee win Senate confirmation this week, and the President signed no less than five bills into law, including legislation reducing gaps between crack and cocaine sentencing; the new complaint this week is where Michelle Obama is spending family time with her daughter. And the tenor is reaching feverish pitch because really, HOW DARE SHE?
When the right can’t win on the issues and they have NO facts with which to debate substantively, they simply reach down in the gutter and start flinging the mud. When I think the right has bottomed out in their ability to stoop to new lows, someone tosses them a shovel and I’ll be snookered if they don’t deepen the trench. Pretty soon it will be big enough to actually bury an elephant. (Visual intentional.)
Presidents’ families are making incredible sacrifices and if they want to travel and educate their children by exposing them to many different cultures and societies, why is that cause for frenzied vitriol? Personal Vacation Expenses are paid for with the President’s own funds. Securing this President and his family wherever they may be is the responsibility of the United States. This is the way it has always been. And yet you’d think there was some nefarious plot to bankrupt America by vacation alone. And when you think about it,…Isn’t that pretty much what George W Bush pretty much did? I mean he was off the clock, as it were for over 31% of his presidency.
The Repubs managed to ‘starve the beast’ of government, intentionally; and the media wants to give them a microphone with which to complain about the minority status they find themselves in? I suppose we are expected to have compassion for their lot? I actually saw Mitch McConnell say yesterday that he would work toward bipartisanship if the proposals came to him in a RIGHT of Center approach. Hey, Mitch, I hate to be the one to point out to you that you FAILED at your last attempt as a majority and you have done NOTHING to earn the keys back to the family car. Oh, and if the poutrage is about DEMS shoving stuff down your throat, imagine the gall of us VOTERS actually placing the Dem majority there INTENTIONALLY. You want to act like it was an accident or a mistake; but I assure you – it was not. We took one look at your incompetence and the incompetence of your former leader and we voted as far away from your ridiculous positions as possible. You sitting on your hands with an empty playbook for 18 months is NOT going to win you the majorities you would like. And for those keeping score at home, I’ve got my feet kicked up and I’m enjoying yet ANOTHER successful week as a Democrat. I love our President! And though you’ve tried with what I can only assume is your best effort to ruin him with your Thousand Cuts a Day strategy, like every other week – his agenda is moving forward; and, well, you’re just sitting there looking exactly as ineffectual as you’ve become. You can’t stop a train, McConnell, so you might as well just GET ON BOARD!"
I can see the protagonists are just gnashing their teeth and practically apoplectic over any successes. It looks like something straight of Lush's "To Complain" list,...Priceless!
TRR I have heard it thru the grape vine that another good friend of mine from Ky. is close to you over there. One never knows maybe we can all get to gether and do a little fishing and set down of a evening over looking the Soggy Bottom. Goes both ways if you ever get to wandering over in the Blue Ridge give a shout. I don't know about those winky Bass but the kids pulled some three pound regular ones out of my pond two weeks ago. Take care and have a good weekend

OpenSecrets.org is a good site for following the money trail.
Nice work Clara - you're much more eloquent than I am! ;0)
Feisty Redhead and her kind depress me with their blind allegiance to the wrongness of the liberal way.
Wow the hate from the libs is absolutely thick. I suppose you poor uneducated socialists really believe that if you lie often enough it becomes truth. Clara there is no verifiable evidence to anything opensecret.org publishes. And of course you all gloat over empty victories they won't last and this November real Americans will vote the socialists out and begin rebuilding America. It will be a long process though as Obama and Pelosi have destroyed alot in a very short period of time.
There's just one little flaw in the argument that 'all first Ladies travel this way-
they don't.
I had no argument with the vacation being tacked on to the state visit in France. I have no argument with yearly family vacations.
this is neither-this is a 'chick trip' to a RESORT in SPAIN-the sole purpose of which is funzies for the First Lady and one of her daughters-and 40 of her friends.
I have a BIG problem PAYING for this. And, yes, folks, we are paying-through the nose.
$2500 per room for the 70 odd secret service agents-for which neither the Obamas, nor any other president, have to reimburse us.
NOT TO MENTION the differential between what it ACTUALLY costs to travel on Air Force Two, and what the reimbursement rate is-it is quite a differential, folks.
Then there is the 'finger in the eye' aspect of this trip-which, if any of you were really honest, you would be decrying even though the Obamas are democrats-
this economy is spiraling the drain, Obama's policies are making things worse, not better, and the missus goes to Europe for a truly posh vacation. The hue and cry if this were a republican president would be DEAFENING.
The difference is that I would have just as much of a problem with this trip if the Obamas were republicans. It is called having one standard-not two.
Looks like I'm in the majority with this. go on over to realclearpolitics and check out the poll averages.
Obama is down to his base---
and dropping.
Really no jo? Did you have that problem when Laura and her chicks were traveling?
Glad to see all the Democrats think this election is sewn up. The sad fact of the matter is this Mid-term is the Republicans to lose and they seem to be working overtime by making bad choices in how they debate and attempt to modify legislation. The good news is if Harry and Nancy manage somehow manage to hang onto to their power this year then in 2012 they will be matching General Custers leading their troops into battle !!
Shortly, Nov 2, I think it likely, that all of your"gains, will become moot.
Shortly, insurance farce repealed.
Public housing repealed.
Welfare repealed.
Negative income taxes repealed.
Yeah yeah we know, the leeches thought this would go on forever.
Party is over, Obama did accomplish one thing. We now understand there is no end to the demands of the parasites, every year, they will want more. They will continue to do that, till you vampires, implode the economy.
We are done.
Look for, "relearn to work" classes, going to get hungry, fior the parasites that have been living off of the taxpayers for the last 50 yeaars.
Leeches, parasites, vampires, "relearn to work"?!?!?! Sounds a lot like code words for "lazy ni66ers" to me Jerry. For the last fifty years, are you referring to the civil rights movement?
If you aren't willing to not appear to be a racist, you probably are a racist. Words to live by in the Twenty-first century.
Feisty Redhead... It's always a comfort to read your comments on these threads. You conduct transitional phases between seriousness, thoughtful insight, adult analysis, irony, clever remarks directed at the continued trend of self-lobotomization of the fringe right, and occasional hilarity. Much thanks from a fellow just a few stone throws away in Rolling Meadows.
No Joe, you only see what you want to see. Laura, Barbara, Hillary all traveled the same way; to say otherwise is seeing what you want. Repeat, it makes everyone of you who insist on making this an issue look childish, petty, idiotic and ridiculous.
Gentle Hawk,
Thanks for the kind words neighbor!
Jody-when, exactly did laura Bush go to a $2500per night resort on a chick trip?
Um, that would be never'.
The 'cutesy poo' DNC talking point that 'all First Ladies travel THIS way is not working. yeah, I get what you mean-they take Air Force one or two, have a secret service detail-but it is stated ambiguously for the purpose of deluding people into thinking that EVERY First Lady took advantage of the taxpayers this way.
They did not.
The reimbursement rates are set o that the taxpayers get back a portion of what is actually expended. True of alll First ladies.
How many take up a third of a truly expensive, posh resort in the south of Spain? I'm going out on a limb, here-one.
Michelle 'let them eat arugula' Obama is historically unprecedented, okay. It takes a special brand of chutzpa to rub the electorate's nose in your indulgence at a time like this.
Of course, she's counting on the media to ignore it. She's probably right.
The media ignores this stupidity because they rarely pander to racists, unless they work at Faux News.
Try looking up the total expenditures made on behalf of First Ladies and the President's family, subtract out the reimbursements made and tell me what percentage above the "norm" Mrs. Obama has created in expense to the tax payers. B!tch, b!tch, b!tch..........is that all you can do?
Traitor Blanche Lincoln may have won the primary battle but she'll lose the general election war because she honked off Liberals and Labor. No big deal losing her!
Whatever happened to Charlie Crist being on Chris Matthew's show yesterday? Waited all show long to hear Chris ask the pertinent question of will Charlie caucus with the Democrats. I was hoping Chris would play Hardball with Charlie and press him for a real solemn promise to caucus with the Democrats if Democrats are foolish enough to vote for him instead of a real Democrat.
Eric, Kendrick Meek will not win the Dem primary, he is a good guy but it ain't gonna happen.
We have a faux Dem. Jeff Greene who has more money than God, and is spending it to buy his place in the race, Meek simply cannot compete with that and that is too bad. I voted by absentee ballot for Meek but I'm not confident he will win the primary, most people tend to vote for the one who is wallpapering the race with their message.
If Meek loses, Charlie will win in Nov. and that will be good for Florida.
If two democrats are running: A centrist and a leftist, in a primary election.
It is a lot easier for the centrist to win in the general election.
Ron’s Law:
The intensity of consternation among conservatives is in direct proportion to the speed of change. Translation: The faster the change, the more upset the conservatives become…and change is happening pretty fast.
This past week we observed three examples of social change: 1) President Obama signed a bill reducing the gap in mandatory sentencing for crack cocaine vs. powdered cocaine. Plus, there is some discussion to someday legitimize marijuana. 2) Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision to strike down Proposition 8 on constitutional grounds, and 3) the building of an Islamic Civic Center and Mosque two blocks away from ground zero.
These social changes go directly to the heart of conservative fear, especially the Christian right. Fundamental Christians use selected Biblical scriptures to justify their phobia of homosexuality. Many truly believe marriage is a union between a man and a woman. To be told otherwise is unthinkable and to be told that the Constitution supports the notion that civil liberties are the right of ALLl Americans is a tough pill for some to swallow.
Then we have an Islamic Civic Center and Mosque to be built two blocks from Ground Zero. Another tough pill for the fundamentalists to swallow. After all, Christians’ believe in one true God—their God—with little thought that Allah could be one and the same God with a different name. The religious freedom section in the First Amendment is a good thing as long as it fits their beliefs, but not so much when it is applied to all religions.
I’ve heard the Tea Party conservatives wanting to take back our country. These three social issues would likely be reversed if conservatives had their way and THIS IS WHAT THEY MEAN BY TAKING BACK THEIR COUNTRY.
This week progressives may be pleased by the decision of Judge Walker and the decision to proceed with the building of an Islamic Civic Center. But there is little doubt in my mind that the pushback from conservatives will be enormous. Their energy to take back America will be seen in November and now is not the time for Progressives to sit back and relax.
Remember Newton’s third Law of Motion: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Prepare for an opposite reaction!
Your post doesn't seem to be associated with the topic of this thread. Did I miss something?
Excellent.
Republicans like baby steps, change scares them. When they are in power, their "vision for the future" amounts to one week ahead.
@Colorado:
The post really doesn't give us a whole lot to work with, so I think a change in subject will be fine. ^_^
Morning Ron
As the republicans have less and less to say, they seem to shout louder and louder. And their rants get crazier and crazier.
Have a great weekend everyone! :)
Jody, the republicans "vision of the future" amounts to when is the next recess.
Remember conservative's law, you f##k, wih the bull you get the horn
Whole bunch of us, are tired of playing around with parasites.
Whole bunch of us, are tired of playing around with parasites.

Funny thing Jerry a whole bunch of the COUNTRY was tired of playing with the parasites which is why we exterminated them in 2006 - 2008 and will again in November 2010.
Just you wait and see!
OKAY FEISTY, we will see, pray every night before you go to bed, that you are correct.
You will not like it here, if you are in error.
This time we take back all of the parasite bills.
The vampires will retun to skulking only in the dark, again
Hon... I've been around here for a hell of a lot longer than you...
Having said that... I will SEE you in November... M'kay?
BTW Jerry: In case you haven't figured it out... I don't feel it necessary to PRAY!
Feisty, is it my imagination, or are the right wingers becoming increasingly unhinged?
They claim that they are going to win big time in November. DUI bush had a 26 percent approval rating for an extremely long time and the democrats only got sixty senators.
President Obama has an approval rating close to fifty percent now. It does not seem to me that as they say """" the overwhelming majority of the population is against the democrats""""
No NewDay... it's not your imagination...
The more they come to grips with the fact they are and will remain the minority... the more they behave like a vampires being hosed with holy water!
Whether they like it or not... the country is moving forward... with or without them! ;0)
Republicans will take the rest of the week off and hopefully, the rest of the year. Get out and vote.
Yes, get out and vote. Actually Republicans took the last 20 months off, saying NO doesn't take much effort.
If you like to follow the Senate races, here's a recommended site: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/
The senate races get updated every few weeks based on polls.
A red bar means "what percent chance that this seat will change from D to R."
A blue bar means "what percent chance this seat will change from R to D."
There was a clever cartoon by Margullies in the paper last night. Q Which structure insults Ground Zero? a) picture of a mosque or b) picture of the House of Representative with NO NO NO NO NO shouts and the caption: aid to 9/11 first responders is defeated.
Republican posters, debate it. The rules are that you must choose one or the other.
The picture of the mosque. Because if not for the actions of the filthy radical muslims, those people would not be sick in the first place and hundreds of their friends and family wouldn't be dead.
And corrupt conservative christian morons like you Chuckey Doll Farley are trying to categorize all Muslims as radical just so you can have neverending crusades. It's you filthy radical christians who keep radicalizing Muslims to want to attack us. Try practicing some of that false garbage about loving thy neighbor sometime so we don't have so many enemies. Muslim Americans have as much right to build their mosque two blocks from ground zero if they want to, remember it's their country too. Do something positive to minimize radical Muslims, hug a Muslim today and show them that mythical christian tolerance.
Eric,
Really??? Who attacked who? Who fired the first shot?? You want to debate this? there's a difference from radical Muslims and Muslims, just like radical Cristians and Cristians.........
CU Farley:
The KKK was an organization of filthy radical white Christians. So let's ban all white Christian churches, no matter how moderate or progressive, from being anywhere near African American neighborhoods. Those white Christians are all the same, after all just like Muslims are all the same. The distance of the state-imposed ban on religious freedom would have to be determined by the government, of course. Some activist judge might prevent that, though.
CU, you said, "filthy radical muslims" but the Muslims that are building the Islamic Civic Center and mosque are not radical. Would dropping "radical" and just saying "filthy Muslims" be more accurate language to describe your sentiments?
Just as it was yesterday, the anti-mosque posters do not get the point. The terrorists win everytime any American paints all Muslims with the terrorist brush, the terrorists cheer your prejudice, they cheer your fear of Muslims, they cheer your willingness to eliminate relilgious freedom--it is what they hope, it is in their minds a win.
The NYC Muslims were not the 14 radical Al Qaeda hijackers and it wasn't just New York City that was attacked. There is Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. There were four planes and the NYC Muslims were not on them, had no connection to the hijackers, they were secondary victims also.
Republicans are quick to cheer the 9/11 heros yet insulted them by denying aid to them. Why? Because their noses were out of joint--how dare Speaker Pelosi use a procedural tool to speed up the legislative process. Why wouldn't she skip the process? This was a bi-partisan piece of legislation, republicans supported it yet they insulted the 9/11 rescue workers because their noses were out of joint, they behaved liked spoiled, selfish children.
What fantasy world do you live in where you think the Islamofacists give a f**k about American tolerance? The only time any such thing crosses their twisted minds is when they laugh at how stupid, PC and suicidal the liberals of the USA are.
After 9/11, every muslim should be walking around condemning and shouting down muslim terrorism in the loudest voice possible. But they didn't have to. Why? Because you enablers turned them all into the victims. The frickin' nerve of you people and your muslim friends. THEY are the victims? Get the f**k outta here! Every person who has ever been an enemy of America has been adopted by American liberals as a special mascot and protected victims (and in many cases heroes). The Soviets, the North Vietnamese, Latin American dictators, street criminals...and now radical muslims. And you wonder why so many people call you traitors...
If you insult the general Muslim population (more than one billion people). It is a lot easier for radicals to recruit from the general Muslim population or from many other populations that would see you making unfair generalizations about people.
There are six billion people on the planet. Forget about exporting anything to those Muslims.
BP's fight against energy nonprofit highlights murky world of advocacy-for-hire
By Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 4, 2010
Days after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig sank in the Gulf of Mexico, a conservative nonprofit group called the Institute for Energy Research asked BP to contribute $100,000 for a media campaign it was launching in defense of the oil industry.
Although BP took a pass, the group's advocacy arm went ahead with a campaign -- only instead of defending BP, it vilified the company as a "safety outlier" in an otherwise safe industry. The campaign's Web site features dozens of images of the burning rig, oil-smeared birds and other environmental devastation from the spill.
But Pyle, previously an oil-industry lobbyist and an aide to former congressman and Texas Republican Tom DeLay, said the anti-BP message was part of a separate campaign and was not intended as retaliation.
____________________________________________________
We are seeing the effects of this kind of thing to often especially here lately. Now anybody that follows us here should know by now that I’m no fan of B.P. and what they have done to our Gulf. Should we hold them to their responsibilities to pay for the harm they have brought to our environment and citizens? Certainly. Should we let every Yahoo that comes along shake them down just because they think they have a platform? No.
Should the folks at Wiki Leaks be allowed to use what amounts to the same thing be allowed to put our sons, daughters and allies in danger to pursue a shakedown of our policy? I think no. No matter that they feel that their cause is just I feel that there are certain lines that don’t need to be crossed when with a little effort on their part they could have made their case just as strongly without misusing the information that they were in possession of. Several other News organizations that had access to the same information managed to handle it responsibly. I won’t belabor the point by getting into the situation that developed with Ms. Sherrod
Can we legislate morality and ethics? No not really. There is always going to exist in our society folks that are going to bend the rules and perceptions a little to far. I just hope that in this day and age of reality T.V. and such like that we all somehow figure out a way to quit rewarding the behavior so handsomely. Then maybe it will recede back to a more manageable level and we can move on with the important things.
Wheres all the oil again I.R.?
Oh....thats right just like weve been saying the ocean ate it all up...... the amount of oil that came out of the broken well was the equivalent of a can of pop in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
Mother Nature is doing her job....
We all know that the libs were hoping this thing would have been much worse and drove the price of gas up so they could use this as a reason to shove cap and tax down the American peoples throats....
Too bad for you guys..... the Gulf coast is starting to open back up and its starting to get back to business as usual...... BP will clean up what they are responsible for and life will go on....with no cap and tax thank God Almighty.
Great post. I had not heard about that conservative group.
One of the most frustrating aspects of the BP disaster has been watching republican governors demand continued exploratory drilling while begging for help for the victims in their states and criticizing the Fed Government for not responding to their liking. Much of the criticism was the result of feeling helpless and scared but also made them appear irrational. This was an ongoing, unprecedented disaster; the government did respond quickly but dealing with a continuous spill took massive effort to begin to control and fix as well as continuing to change what wasn't working.
Good post I.R. voted
I for one do not believe the rosy predictions of BP and the government that most of the oil has dissipated. It seems most everyone is eager to turn the page on this disaster, I hope not. the wetlands alone will take years, if ever, to be restored.
BP has managed this disaster very well, hiding the evidence,of how much wildlife has been lost and how the waters of the Gulf have been poisoned.
Ditto that GM!
It's been nothing more than PURE propoganda since the beginning about how much oil was gushing - how much wildlife has been affected - where the oil is now & my personal FAVORITE the dispersant's are SAFE!
I didn't believe them then and no way in hell I believe them now!
Okay Larry let’s kind of look at this thing here. Where’s the oil? Good commons sense tells me that millions of gallons of oil and toxic dispersant don’t just poof magically disappear. So that means that it’s still somewhere. So if it has evaporated into the air then the atmosphere in the gulf area may contain and continue to contain enough toxins in pp million to cause Cancer and Respiratory illness for quite a while. Here again the ocean didn’t eat it but I’ll bet a lot of fish did and if it didn’t kill them they now contain enough Toxins in pp million to have the same effect. So no matter what some folks say I would be more of the opinion that we still have a problem even if we can’t see it
As far as the charge that libs would wish that this destruction on us I find that just as ridiculous as most sane people would and pretty much along the same lines as the original intent of my post. We need to get past the point where ridiculous things are going to be allowed to bend the reaction to the problem.
Larry,
I find it truly hilarious that while the oil was gushing from the Macondo Well that the Repubs were calling it Pres. Obama's responsibility. Now that the gusher is stopped you are ll praising it as BP's responsibility. What is it, or do you all just flip flop around like Large Mouth b@SS yourselves on the bottom of the boat dying for lack of oxygen, or is this just your normal state?
IR,
Very thoughtful post. I am about as far away from LA as you can get and still be in the USA. I am only about 35 miles south of the Canadian Boarder. I have been watching this BP disaster and I am not surprised by the fact that there are reports of dishonest people trying to use this disaster as their own private cash cow. This makes it all the harder for legitimate businesses to get their money. We saw this in Katrina as well. BP should pay every dime for the damage and lost income they created in the name of Greed. Also I hope that their is a mechanism in place to catch the crooks as well.
I do not think President Obama will let BP slide on their responsibility, I just want the people in the Gulf to get their money now and not have a situation like in Alaska where people are still waiting. That would not be acceptable.
Larry, are you kidding me?
I am in Kalamazoo, Michigan and we are currently dealing with our own little oil spill up here. Over a million gallons into the Kalamazoo River, a direct line into Lake Michigan. We have been watching daily the incredible damage that is being done to our ecosystem. Farmers can no longer use that river for irrigation. Marshes, wildlife, homes destroyed. But hey, Mother Nature will take care of it, oh and Enbridge. And really, those pesky ol' liberals really wanted this to happen anyway so it's all good. Jack Azz.
Bee Honest- Where you be? You busy trying to prove Bush/Cheney brought down the WTC, you tinfoil-hat wearing commie? Or were you out collecting baseball bats to hand out to leftist thugs to intimidate people at the polls this November? Huh? What it be, B?
UpChuck,
Considering that all you ever do is spout hate, fear and discontent the rest of your lies and innuendos mean nothing to me. Bush and Cheney caused a lot of people all across the world pain and hatred and the right has been thugs for a very long time. The only person I see wearing the aluminum foil hats are you racist, immoral, loudmouth, fascist idiots who happen to inhabit the FAR FAR right and have no idea what reality is. I happen to KNOW what the Truth is and happen to live it daily, you would not recognize truth if it bit you on the nose let alone know what to do with it.
Don't be fooled by billionaire Warren Buffets's call for billionaires to donate half their wealth to charity, it's nothing but a scam for billionaires to evade paying their fair share of the estate tax. Why don't these billionaires pay back the future generations they stole their wealth from the past 30 years ever since Ronny Raygunz started stealing from future generations to give them huge tax cut welfare they never needed or deserved?
If these billionaires are so patriotic then why do they always find new ways to evade paying their fair share of taxes to keep our massive Reagan Bush Bush National Debt from bankrupting future generations? About time to make our Reagan Bush Bush National Debt a charity that deserves donations from these worthless thieving billionaires who have stolen from us all!
What is it with you socialists and your hatred of successful people? I mean, I know you are jealous, that goes without saying. But the bitter hatred and viciousness is pathetic. Did it occur to you all that maybe if you spent less time screwing around on the internet, you could get out there and make some money and be sucessful too? No, you would rather sit behind your computer and envy other people who worked hard and prospered. Losers.
The leaders of tomorrow and the current entrepeneurs are not sitting at home right now complaining, whining and b***hing about rich people. They're out there getting things done. And in a few years you all will be nagging them and calling them names and telling them to pay more taxes so they can give their $$$ to layabouts, lefty losers and baby-mamas.
And don't even think about calling me a hypocrite for being on here too. I'm not the one constantly demanding OTHER people's money, am I? And don't start with the "ok...we'll take away the fire department and see how you like it" crap. We all know that things like that are what taxes are SUPPOSED to go for. NOT ridiculous social experiments that EFF up the country for 4 decades running.
no joe,
Your really need to stop all this conspiracy theory stuff. Forever and a day numbers from the many government departments that have a required release dates (unemployment, GDP, etc) get updated. Why? It is because some of the data is not final and an estimated number is used. Sometimes the private sector companies required to report are late or the data is inaccurate or incomplete.
Eric
So basically what your saying is that theses billionaires should give their money to the poor but ONLY if the Federal government gets their hands on it first?
You realize that what they are doing will actually help more people then giving it to the government right?
How you ask? Well they are going to give the money to non profit charities with minimal overhead so that the vast majority of the money actually gets to the people it is intended to help. As opposed to having it taxed and most of it going to China and the rest being spread out between the Unions.
IWhere you have a ridiculous hatred for anyone that becomes successful I am proud of these gentlemen for doing what God calls us all to do -- give back part of what He has blessed us with to help those that need help.
What they are doing is EXACTLY what makes this country the greatest country on the planet.
I'd rather see the money put to charitable purposes than see them using the many loopholes to avoid taxes--they don't pay much taxes as it is and if the GOP has their way, they'll continue paying the 17% Dennis mentioned yesterday adding another $630 billion to the debt. I admire Bill Gates and Warren Buffet for at least trying to do some good with their money. I would also like to see them pay the same income tax rate as the other 95% of the population.
Jody this is why we need a flat tax. This way we all pay the smae (% wise) amount of our money to the gov't
Now a simple fix to this whole mess would be:
The gov't gets a certain % of the citizens earnings (say 10%). That is what they have to work with for the year. This means they would have to prioritize and decided what is most important and what is least important.....for example: Police, military, firefighters and teachers would be at the top of the list.... giving money to schools to find out how cracked out monkeys react would be at the very bottom.
Huh....if that sounds somewhat familiar....its because its what american families have to do every month.... We have to rack and stack our expenditures....things like the mortgage / rent and the power / gas bills are at the top and things like going to the movies or going to McDonalds are at the bottom.
Why is it we the people can do this but the gov't is held to a different standard?
Chuckles,
You cry foul about the inheritance tax and, sure, you have a right to do it. But spare us the argument that this is about socialism and hatred of successful people.
It's one thing to argue about entrepreneurs and people earning their money through hard work.
How do you feel about people, though, who can only claim their riches by being members of the "Lucky DNA Club" (Read: Paris Hilton)?
Da noid
So they should have to give up more of their money because they have more?
Why dont we just install a flat tax and then everyone pays their fair share...isnt that what Libs are always screaming for?
:^)
CU,
Why are you against anyone not born with a silver spoon in their mouth? The REAL truth is that the game is rigged and it isn't a level playing field. You imply that hard work and discipline is all you need but that isn't the reality.
Do I want their money? Nope because I didn't earn it but neither did they. Unless of course by earning you mean under paying and over working your employee's or paying slave wages to your outsourced factories in Taiwan, India, ect.
Does this apply to all successful businesses here in the U.S.? no of course not but those not playing these games are under a constant threat of closing because it's hard to compete with companies that have absolutely no morality or business ethics.
I am not against successful people but rather the success at any cost mentality. The only successful people who complain about paying more in taxes are usually the ones who have created their fortunes by screwing over everybody else.
I’m sure most FR lefty liberals would agree that any law that can result in ridiculous consequences is flawed and needs to be revised. I’m sure they all cheered when Barry signed the law that fixed the sentencing disparities between crack and powder cocaine convictions.
Let’s look at another provision that, as it’s currently written, could produce ridiculous results. Let’s take a hypothetical situation to demonstrate a ridiculous result: It’s 1975, and Osama bin Laden knocks up one of his many wives. Two months later she annoys him, so he beats her. She then runs away and sneaks across the U.S.-Mexican border to live with her sister in Phoenix and has the baby seven months later. Osama bin Laden’s child is now a U.S. citizen. Fast forward to 2012. Osama bin Laden’s child is now eligible to run for President, and if he/she won, pardon their father for the murder of 3,000 people on 9/11.
Extremely unlikely? Absolutely.
Entirely possible under the current 14th amendment? ABSOLUTELY.
Surely most FR lefty liberals will agree that an amendment to the Constitution that could allow such a result is fatally flawed and needs to be fixed.
Joe, while I understand your rant and rave ,and I've posted my plan to end illegal immigration time and time again - something business don't like, you know, fine employers and landlords and make them pay to send the illgals home, do away with wet foot/dry foot - but the one thing you all need to remember, the businesses vote repugnant, and as long as they do, the repugnants are only using illegal immigration as a smoke and cover, they have no intention of doing anything about this problem, if they did they would not have a problem with fining the employers and landlords!
On another note - aren't you off topic here? Yep, thought so.
Entirely possible under the current 14th amendment? ABSOLUTELY.
How much sleep did you lose trying to come up with this one? Hypotheticals are great fun for extra-terrestrials, the super bowl and that good looking lady in the corner booth but not much good for anything else, in MHO.
Usually, when someone tells me I surely must agree, my initial reaction is "the hell I must"! Same thing here! What was your next musing - how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
Thanks right Joe, que the paranoia!
Joe:
Maybe it is fatally flawed. Look at the idiot that the Constitution allowed to be president in 2000, at least the Constitution as interpreted by the radical rightwing Supreme Court.
@Houston:
I still want to know why the Supreme Court granted certiorari to Bush v. Gore.
I stand corrected. It seems the FR lefty liberals would have no problem at all with the concept of Osama bin Laden's child becoming a citizen and President and pardoning him for his 3,000 murders on 9/11. My only issue is that, after giving it some thought, I shouldn't be at all surprised by the lefty liberals position on this issue.
Sad.
Wouldn't Osama bin Laden have to be convicted of the crime of mass murder before he could be pardoned by his hypothetical son who has somehow managed to become president even though we all would know that his father is Osama bin Laden? Which means he, UBL, would have had to been put on trial and convicted, even though his defense would be that he works for the CIA, and was just following Cheney's orders on 9/11.
Probably the silliest hypothetical I've heard in quite some time.
Why would we knowingly put Osama bin Laden's anchor-baby son in the Whitehouse? Would he have been running against Sarah Palin?
Paul, you're not very bright, are you? First, Presidents pardon the commission of the crime, not the conviction and sentence. Do some research on Ford's pardon of Nixon:
Now, therefore, I, Gerald R. Ford, President of the United States, pursuant to the pardon power conferred upon me by Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, have granted and by these presents do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from July (January) 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974.
Second, the point of this hypothetical situation was to SHOW WHAT KIND OF RIDICULOUS RESULT COULD OCCUR UNDER THE CURRENT 14TH AMENDMENT.
What part of "Extremely unlikely? Absolutely" in my post do you not understand??
Joe in Albany: I rarely read what you post, simply put, it is not worth my time. But, since I DO read what Paul posts, let me respond to this. If it is "extremely unlikely? Absolutely" then why did you take the time to set up such a ridiculous scenario? And since it was your beloved Bush Jr, that ignored the warnings...I guess the conclusion that reasonable people would draw is that it is the Conservatives who simply do not care what Bin Laden or his spawn do.
Joe,
Absolutely fascinating that you chose one Repub pardoning Nixon, another Repub, whom EVERYBODY knew was criminal, so that he would escape punishment for his crimes and to stave off a deeper investigation yet into his crimes. Repubs are into exonerating their own criminals as this clearly shows. Way to go Joe
NewDay,
I put Joe, Albany on the handy dandy 'ignore author' button once it became clear he's not old enough to shave... lol
Good idea, Feisty, I haven't used the ignore button yet. Will try it.
I have been tempted to use the ignore button, but like Faux News, you have to hear what lies they are telling now in order to rebut what their fool-lowers will blindly regurgitate next. It's unpleasant but necessary to remain 'culturally' informed. I haven't succumbed to the temptation to "ignore" yet but JoAnna and ITM are getting close to gone from my world. Good morning Dawn.
newdaymoron, Feisty beat me to it, but, clearly you are not bright enough to comprehend my posts, and I also would recommend you put me on "ignore" so that I don't confuse you anymore.
BTW, do you really read Paul's "truther" posts about how 9/11 was "an inside job"?? If so, you might also put yourself on "ignore".
LMAO@U!!!!!!!!!
I hear you Paul...
But Minnow Joe is only looking for a fight and I don't have the time or inclination to validate the moron!
He's just not feisty worthy... lol
"I put Joe, Albany on the handy dandy 'ignore author' button once it became clear he's not old enough to shave... lol"
I'm hoping like Hell for all the males within 5 miles of Feisty, that being "old enough to shave" is not her crochety, old, self-professed "Cougar" criteria for going after a young one.
YIKES!!!!!
Morning, Paul: You have had some really pithy and excellent posts these days! This thing with the First Families travel is absurd. They pay their personal expenses, but people want to carp about the system in place to keep them safe. It is really not their choice about how they travel, the mode of transport, or the protection they get, which leads to the amount of rooms that they must have. If people don't like that system, I guess the alternative would be to not offer protection. How is that better?
Paul said: "I have been tempted to use the ignore button, but, blah, blah, blah and blah, blah, blah, some more"
Gee, Paul, what you didn't say is how F'in' wrong you were about the Presidential pardon.
Moron.
Gotta go, filet mignon and Alaska sockeye salmon on the grill await my presence.
After a delicious lunch of grilled fillet mignon with bernaise sauce, and grilled Alaska sockeye salmon drenched in garlic butter and a garden salad (no Whole Foods arugula, thank you, and now that we have free healthcare, I couldn't care less about my cholesterol level because I'm entitled to unlimited free $75,000 CABG's), I have to ask the FR lefty liberals a question that came up from one of my neighbors: She asked why the lefty liberals (my term, not hers) are so retarded (her term, not mine) that they think more deficit spending that has proven itself ineffective so far, will now turn around and suddenly become "effective" if we just add more of it, She then asked (as a clinical psychologist) "Isn't the definition of insanity repeating the same activity over and over again and expecting a different result?"
FR lefty liberals??
The only people that can answer that legitimately, Joey are the righties, since it was the Cheney/ Bush administration that drove the train off the tracks with their favorite thing: hide things off budget and borrow and spend.
Newday - you beat me to it! My resonse to Joe is "Didn't you vote for Gidget and the Geezer?" NOW that was insanity personified. I mean seriously,...McCain wasn't half as smart as W who wasn't half as smart as Cheney - with all this 'half as' BS (pun intended),...It's a wonder Republicans bother getting up at all. But, boy howdy, that Sarah Palin is a looker,...let's vote with our half heads,...it can't be worse than____________— (fill in the blank). I see you a clinical psychologist and raise you some tax accountants, lawyers and graphic artists, Joe.
Are the rats deserting the sinking ship?
First it was Budget Director Peter Orzag, now it's the Chair of Barry's Council of Economic Advisors, Christina Romer. Barry's economic team seems to be running out of the White House screaming, with their hair on fire. Of course, it could also be that they have decided to go out on top and cash in on the excellent job they have done on the economy. Unfortunately, today's piss-poor jobs report makes that scenario highly unlikely.
Crazy Tea Bag Hag from Nevada, Scary Sharry Angle, is going over the deep ened yet again saying that Democrats are violating the First Commandment by thinking that government is god. Sorry Scary Sharry yet another delusion from the broom flying wicked witch of christianity but we Democrats don't idolize government as god. Actually that's exactly what Scary Sharry will do if elected, turn our government into a god cursed institution while forcing her evil corrupt conservative christian sharia law down all our throats.
Your hate and use of childish name-calling normally make you look ignorant enough. But, calling "sharia" law Christian is beyond the pale. And, BTW, if you want to look like you're somebody who knows what they're talking about, the spelling is sharria.
Dirt:
Spelling of Arabic terms is in flux, since Arabic is a character-based alphabet, as opposed to a Latin alphabet. Transliteration is an imperfect art.
I think Eric's comment is a bit extreme but I wouldn't call it "beyond the pale". If the US replaced our laws with a Christian code it would be forcing the rules of one religion on the everyone. Also it would be giving ultimate authority to a centuries old book and taking away the ability of people to reason for themselves and make democratic decisions on governance. These are characteristics of sharria law so I think it is fair comparison.
Well, here are a couple of stories you missed:
unemployment-rate remains the same DESPITE the loss of 131,000 jobs last month. How? Simple: move ANOTHER 181,000 people out of the labor force. Call them discouraged workers-then they don't count.
In addition-well, it looks like math is not the strong suit of the jokers at BLS. June and May jobs numbers have been revised downward-just a couple thousand in May,but June went from negative 125,000 to negative 221,000. Now, how do you suppose ANYBODY makes that kind of error?
It's called massaging the numbers, folks.
Oh, and then there is this: Al Franken chasing all over the Senate trying to apologize to Mitch McConnell. Seems that while McConnell was speaking in the well of the Senate, Franken, in the presider's chair, was gesticulating and making faces. When he was done speaking, McConnell admonished Franken that he was not on Saturday Night Live, and that he had demeaned the decorum of the Senate. Then he left. Franken chased after him, but had to resort to writing a note.
Way to go, Minnesota! You've outdone the mad emperor Caligula! He, you may remember, put his favorite horse in the Roman Senate-the voters of Minnesota elected only the rear end of the horse.
Joe.
Perhaps Senator Frankin misunderstood, if it was ok for the dead beat red neck from SC to be disruptive and disrepsectful it should be ok for anyone else to be. Poor mitch, he is washed up, bedraggled, and just crazy - but he always has been. No way i'd apoligize to him for anything, after all I never got an apology for a drunk coke addict breathing the same air as I do much less living in the White House for 8 years.
I at least give credit for an apology, and trying to track him down and apologize in person as well. Most senators I can think of would simply have issued a statement.
no joe,
The unemployment rate is calculated today the same way it always has been, so spare us your "massaging the numbers" rant please.
Have a great weekend.
no joe,
Your really need to stop all this conspiracy theory stuff. Forever and a day numbers from the many government departments that have a required release dates (unemployment, GDP, etc) get updated. Why? It is because some of the data is not final and an estimated number is used. Sometimes the private sector companies required to report are late or the data is inaccurate or incomplete.
Second posting ... 1st under wrong author ... sorry
If Franken were a fall-down drunk, he'd be smarter than McConnell!!
Nashville Fan,
Nice post. Too bad the republicans keep yapping about NO jobs while they are voting down (with a minority yet) bills that are designed to create jobs, lower taxes on Small Business and create a forum to get loan money which will create jobs.
The crap the republicans are tying to sell on this board is getting pretty stale and starting to smell very ripe indeed. The same BS from the same people. The republicans created the problem, they are doing everything they can to put us back into the ditch so come November they can claim President Obama a failure.
I have to wonder if those across the aisle realize they are shooting themselves in the foot unless they are all in the top 2%. Those people (the richest 2%)are making out like bandits on the backs of the middle class and laughing all the way to the bank. The economic divide is at is greatest point since they started tracking it.
Just disgusting how Chuck and Savannah have on some repugnant one creep on tv saying that we need to extend all of the Bushwhacker's tax cuts and balance it by upping the age on people collecting Social Security. No wonder I can't stand the Daily Rundown any longer! If the Democrats fall for that Great Right Lie then they'll lose a lot of voters. If the Bushwhacker's tax cut welfare for the top 2% isn't killed and the estate tax restored as well as restoring capital gains tax cuts to normal income tax rates then there will be a big price to pay as Liberals and Labor will shun the party of no backbone.
As always the repugnant ones want all the entitlements for the already too entitled while balancing the cost on the backs of those in need. Those Democrats who cave in to the repugnant ones merely to save their own jobs will pay a heavy price for their cowardice. We can't keep allowing the rich and greedy to steal wealth from future generations, they've already stolen $13 trillion and it's time to stop the tax cut welfare for the rich and greedy before they bankrupt our future generations.
Eric,
I hear you. MSNBC pretty much sucks in the AM. They keep saying the Tax Cuts will pay for themeselves, create jobs etc. This WooDoo math did not work for Regan, nor Bush. Why would it work now??? This just gets craiser evey day with the same lies over and over and over.
Have a great day.
ND, no surprise, Larry's posts give us a big hint.
As for Blanche Lincoln, she was losing before and the only real chance democrats had was for Halter to win; I think he would have had a better chance. Lincoln messed up big time on health care in a state that desparately needed it.
Sestak will pick up steam as we head into fall. Crist will win unless something crazy were to happen; I'd rather see a moderate republican like Crist than a Tea Party Libratarian.
It is August and most voters are enjoying summer and vacations; they aren't paying much attention.
Jody, I think the only reason lincoln won is because of the cross over vote. I've said it before, it is time for the democrats to do to the repugnants what they have been doing to us for decades, it is time for us to cross over and vote in their primaries (you can do that in Tennessee - it is an open primary state), choose your own enemy.
I'm a native Pennsylvanian. Somewhere, I'm sure there's video or text of Pat Toomey espousing a Club for Growth position guaranteed to p!ss off the blue collar vote in PA. Toomey's gotta backpedal away from the Club For Growth like an all-pro cornerback! It seems that, with some oppo research, Toomey's ultimately gonna be in trouble!
Yea just wait..... Hoeven doesnt put up with the crap that happens in D.C.
Hoeven is a junior senator and 1% of the senate. He'll learn his place quickly!
and what "place" is that?
What Larry does not want anyone to know is that Hoeven was a Democrat, and switched parties when it became evident that he could only be elected as a right wing neanderthal. He has accomplished nothing in ND, no matter how Larry wants to posture about it, the accomplishments are from the Congressional Delegation. ND has lost the best friend it has by Dorgan deciding to retire. Hoeven will vote in Congress in his own self interests, which is what his history is. I don't have any concerns about him being in Congress, he will get eaten alive. ND is a Federal welfare state, and I challenge Larry to put his money where his mouth is and agree that ND should not accept any more Federal funding. That would also mean that Minot Air Force base should close. I am still awaiting Larry's post on Jefferson and his views on this being a Christian country.
Hey, Larry don't ask me what Hoeven's place'll be. That's Senator McConnell's decision. He'll vote "no" whenever he's told to!
Feisty, I wouldn't gloat too much about Bristol and Jerky Boy. I'm no Sarah Palin fan but it's a shame and not her fault that Bristol got involved with a giant douche like Levi.
DaNoid - it was meant to be 'light' & humorous - and obviously failed miserably! ;0)
My apologies...
Da Noid,
Actually it is a shame that Levi got involved with another female Palin IMHO. Poor boy had no idea what he was 'getting into'.
Never mind that it was the same one from the first time around. *sigh* You would've thought he'd have learned his lesson.
Da Noid, I lean towards agreeing with you, however, if Ms Sarah was a better Momma and set a better example for all her cherubs, it is quite possible Bristol would be a better judge of character and choose more wisely.
Ms Sarah is the perfect example of a rightwing extremist lecturing all who will listen to her as to how wonderful she and her ideas are.
In life we lead by example and we reap what we sow.
Da Noid... I beg to differ that Sarah isn't a direct influence in Bristol's adventures with Levi. You may recall Sarah allowed Levi to live in her house and share Bristol's bedroom, even before Bristol was pregnant. Considering Sarah's 'family values', it's sort of interesting this could have occurred when her own daughter was still a minor. Should we be surprised this ongoing little melodrama continues? It's very difficult for a young woman like Bristol to escape the trailer trash mentality of her mother, and I use the term 'mother' advisedly!
Virginia Attorney General "Kooch", as he's unaffectionately been called, has decided to whip up some more anti-Hispanic hysteria by politicizing the case of an illegal alien driving who caused a fatal accident while driving drunk. The illegal alien was a despicable character who had several other convictions before the fatal crach.
Kooch and other rightwingers are now trying to spin this tragic story as proof that the Obama administration isn't enforcing immigration laws and letting dangerous criminals off the hook to maim and kill again. But one thing that Kooch didn't point out when he was on CNN last night is that the Obama administration has changed the Bush-era focus from deporting people guilty of working at fast food restaurants and has been giving the highest priority to deporting aliens who have committed serious crimes.
Here's a link to the Media Matters article that reports what the radical right hates the most - Facts:
http://mediamatters.org/research/201008040032
It looks to me like you proved the opposing view, not your own. Forgive me if I'm missing something.
Since this illegal was convicted of "several other" crimes, why wasn't he deported already? (You note giving priority to those that has committed "serious crimes").
Sean May be we should look at why with several convictions for drunk driving the gentleman was still being allowed to run around free. If we are going to look at why the federal government didn't enforce it's law then we also need to look at why the state didn't enforce theirs. Also I have seen no evidence that state officials ever brought the gentleman's immigration status up before the accident which would have facilitated deportation. Course old Kootch don't want any body to go there he just wants folks fixated on the shiny object he's holding up
Sean,
If you think that there is a system out there that won't miss a few here and there than you are delusional. Of course if you have a full proof solution by all means enlighten us. Sounds to me like there is a possibility that the state of Virginia could have done a better job but how does this translate to the President? Should the President file all of his paperwork and personally put his mail in the mail box?
Your argument is silly. Try again.
Dan, you lost me on your argument. But to try and answer your question, I don't have a fool-proof system. But if the focus is on illegals that have committed crimes, why didn't anyone look into it on his first conviction? I guess DUI isn't enough to mandate someone's attention.
Independent: In my state, as far as I know, penalties for drunk driving don't get severe until the third conviction (unless you're underage, then they throw the book at you with what amounts to a bill of attainder, but that's another topic). It takes 4 before you lose your license for more than a year. It takes 5 until they revoke it permanently.
I don't know how Virginia handles DUI/DWI/OUI convictions.
SeanDoonan (I-MA):
I know it's politically incorrect to mention G. W. Bush, but this guys convictions happened during his administration. And even if they weren't you're engaging in a logical fallacy along with Kooch that one incident somehow proves that Obama is refusing to enforce immigration laws. The fact that there are murders almost every day in most big cities doesn't "prove" that laws against homicides are not being enforced.
As I said, Obama has actually INCREASED enforcement of immigration laws well beyond what Bush had. I gave a link to the report that gives the facts and statistics, but evidently you didn't bother to read it.
Sean,
Allow me to simplify my argument. Short of the President doing all of the work on a Federal and State level, how do you expect every single illegal immigrant convicted of a crime to be apprehended and deported? it is a sad story but probably one of millions more. To think that things like this aren't going to happen anyway is absurd and childish. Responsibility for this situation would fall on the State more so than the Federal Government and any argument to the contrary is pure partisan garbage.
@Houston:
I'm not seeing the leap from talking about one case to criticizing the entire Obama immigration strategy (not that I don't, I think he's wrong in looking at amnesty as a viable option). My comments remain only about the case of this particular illegal.
@Dan:
You present an excellent point. We can only hope for a perfect world, but we know it won't happen.
I guess we'll have to wait for Obama to pop out somewhere today telling us again that "The economy is on the right track, but I will not rest until everyone that wants a job, gets a job". Then he'll promptly go on vacation to take a rest.
As usual Joanna your comments are baseless, shallow, and lack any semblance of logic. I recall the last president constantly taking vacations and trips to the Texas ranch. Did this also put you out?
The jobs report today was disappointing. And a few days ago the Commerce Department reported that consumer spending was unchanged in June and incomes were flat. The lack of growth for spending and incomes shows the economy ended the second quarter on a weak note. Many analysts believe growth will slow still further in the second half of the year as high unemployment, shaky consumer confidence and the potential for further deterioration in the housing market take their toll on the economic recovery.
This is all George Bush's fault. And while Obama's fiscal stimulus hasn't spurred economic growth as anticipated, we can take comfort in knowing that things would be even worse in the absence of that stimulus. I know these things because that's what Obama keeps telling us.
But to be fair and balanced, here are the GDP numbers for the first five quarters coming out of the steep Reagan recession in 1981-82: 8.1%, 9.3 %, 8.1%, 8.5%, and 8.0%. Needless to say, they make our latest 2.4% GDP number look pathetic by comparison. And these numbers were achieved without massive fiscal stimulus in the form of government spending. It's also useful to point out that unemployment during Reagan's terms peaked at 10.8% in December 1982, then ratcheted more or less steadily downward until it hit 5.4% when he left office in January 1989. Now that's economic performance. So what's different today, why isn't the economy growing more robustly under the Obama regime? Why, despite the application of the fiscal stimulus prescribed by Keynsian orthodoxy, has unemployment remained persistently high?
Here's a thought. Jack Kemp used to say "you can't hate employers, then claim to love employees." His point was that it made no sense for the left to bash business when it's those very businesses that create the jobs for the employees the left claims to support. In that kind of an antagonistic atmosphere there's less motivation for businesses to produce, particularly today when an already uncertain economic future is exacerbated by the specter of government policies that are hostile to those who do the producing. So why should it surprise anyone that companies are reportedly sitting on $1.8 trillion of cash. Sitting on it instead of investing in plants and equipment and the jobs that come along with it.
Against that backdrop and in the grand tradition of "it's the economy, stupid" it's looking more and more like there will be hell to pay for the Dems in November. I know this because the Dems are in charge these days. So HCR doesn't matter, financial regulation doesn't matter, insensitive idiots who want to build a mosque near Ground Zero doesn't matter. All that matters is the one pocketbook issue that's near and dear to the hearts of just about everyone. And no matter how much Democrats try to shift the blame to Bush, the simple fact for all the world to see is they've failed miserably in cranking up the American job creating machine.
Bill,
While all your data appears to be accurate the comparison of the 1980 and 2008 recession isn’t exactly fair.
During Reagan our manufacturing base was, by far, much larger than it has been in the last several years. This also provided for a much larger export business.
His tax cuts allowed people to spend but today the tax cuts of 2001 took tax rates to below where they were during Reagan. The meager tax cuts in 2008 (Bush – Rebate) and 2009 & 2010 (Obama – Stimulus) couldn’t do enough and people could no longer use the home equity as an ATM.
Bill,
are you saying Carter left the Country in as deep a ravine as Bush did? Because the only way your growth numbers mean squat is if we're talking apples to apples, here - otherwise,...it's just another layer of data on the 'Baffle 'em with Bullsh!t' pie you keep serving up.
and since you never get my brand of snarkasm, this is meant to be funny while highlighting the emptiness of data rhetoric without context.
Dennis, G-d Bless you - apparently you picked up on the same point I was making; but handled it better. good on you!
DUI bush left two expensive wars going.
Very intesting story from that great liberal state of illinois,
today and every year from august to the start of school, parents buying supplies will beable to take advantage of not paying sales tax for school supplies. Governer Quinn is looking out for parents. i wonder of Jan Brewer is doing this.
Republicans keep on using the phrase 'George Bush's fault' to shift the focus or responsibility for the mess created way from them (Republicans).
Obviously they know it is their fault that the economy is in this shape. Republicans were advising Bush on
what to do so they should not pretend that since Bush is gone then they are now clean. It still remains
REPUBLICANS FAULT that the economy is in this shape.
They (Republicans) were there for 8. The mess that took them 8 years to create can not be easily cleaned
up in 18 months and they know that very well. But you still find them blocking the actions that Democrats are trying to take to clean up the mess they left.
No one ever blocked or obstructed Regan from doing his work the way Republicans are doing now to Obama.
Fiesty,
Well Fiesty, I’m not a regular as you say. I’m not on here all the time. But what do you mean ”one of my own”? Again you assume I’m a Right Winger. Well again I’m not, kind of like a selected reader eh?
“If you are in fact a regular of FR - when have you called out one of your own on some of the names they call our sitting President! I'll tell you when... NEVER!”
Haven’t seen one source from you Fiesty, but like I said I’m new and when you post, "Your weekly victory’s” and 60% don’t make any type of sense, you want to attack. Attack away and continue to look like a fool. It’s entertaining.
“Thanks for sharing your selective reading skills Paul! I have on MANY occasions posted links and facts backing up my 'agenda'... if you chose not to read them well... whatever...”
LOL, in essence???? Friesty telling me I’m a lair or is it that you can’t produce a fact to your idiotic posts and logic and it hit a nerve with you. Not used to have facts debunking your ideology. Too funny and thank you for the good laugh..............................
“So Paul in essense you're a liar! You really should do some homework BEFORE you start throwing out false accusations!”
Umm.... Paul...
Look like it is I who struck the nerve... it's a character trait with the opposition - they believe that always having the last word somehow gives them credibility... :0)))
You see Paul... as a Proud Democrat I've witnessed how the game is played by the right... don't think for a second I'm going to sit back silently while they once again attempt to talk LOUDLY OVER people spreading their lies and fear mongering!
It's not to evident that the righties and 'you' don't like it being called out for one minute and to that I say TFB!
Like I said Paul... simmer away... lol And seriously do try to have a nice weekend!
Fiesty,
While I sit on hold with Delta planning my trip to Half Moon Bay and trying to get my Mother-in-law's ticket to watch the kids...............I have to respond.........I have to say that having a 14 year old daughter I don't have any more nerves, pretty much numb, so what you say doesn't bother me. I'm not saying this in a mean way, but you remind me of my Mother, reason being is that I grew up in a hard core Democratic family. Being born and raised in the Burbs of Detroit, I know how you think. By all means it's your right. You say you're a Proud Democrat-Fine. I'm not, I'm not even a Republican, you think I am, but I'm not. Here in Florida, I CAN'T vote in primaries because I'm a NPA. BOTH parties are messed up. I've voted Democrat and Republican. Right now I can't stand what the Democrats stand for. Obama is like a kid with a credit card, spend, spend, spend and blame the other guy. It's getting old and that's why Indepenents are bailing on Obama. Proof is in the polls.........
You haven't called me out, sources I posted are from niether Left or Right. Besides calling people lairs and other names, just post the facts to back up what you say. I've seen other posts to your remarks, some are fair other are not.
I will have a nice weekend and you have one too.................
Paul.. It appears Feisty Redhead has identified you clearly based on your posts. It's always interesting to see people who post to these threads who claim NOT to be Republicans when it's so obvious to the rest of us they are indeed "Republicans in Hiding". I can't say I blame you considering the bottom feeding lack of popularity of congressional GOP'ers, dipping ten percentage points below democrats in approval who aren't exactly in high regard themselves. I won't call you a liar, and don't know your mindset, but you're either so embarassed about what the party you usually support has done, or are in complete self-denial about the destruction you and your kin on the fair right have wrought on the country, or you're otherwise deluding yourself in your attempt to run from the truth as it exists. You are part of an epidemic that will ultimately run its course. The only question is when all the knuckledragging mouth breathers will fade into utter irrelevance. I do have one question through all this. Are we supposed grant you some credibility because you've made the claim you are planning a trip to Half Moon Bay, or that you're conversant with the name "Delta" or that you're going t fly your mother-in-law in to babysit your 14 yr. old daughter and whatever other kids you might have? Or are you just making an insincere attempt to create a perception that you are somehow at an elevated level of fiscal relevance? I don't think it's very difficult to conclude it's all of he above! Apparently you haven't the emotional or intellectual capacity to realize how transparent you are. (shrugging)
Gentle Hawk,
Well first of all I assume that you think I'm a "Republican in Hiding" is totally wrong. You probably base that on I don't like Obama's policies. If you been following the news only 38% of Independants agree on what Obama and the Democrats are doing. A far drop from 68% or so a year ago. I didn't like Obama while he was in the Senate and I don't like him now. So based on that, you probably think 1. I'm a Republican or 2. I'm a Racist. Yes, I say that because that's whats coming next from the Liberals. If you don't like Obama you're going to be called a Racist. It's starting to happen.
What is this "Truth" you're talking about? Really explain this to me? The truth that the Stimulus Plan would keep uneployment at 8%? That Taxes wouldn't go up? The HC Bill that over 60% people don't want, but yet shoved down our throats? Sueing a State for a Law that the Federal Government refuses to enforce? By the way that problem goes back to Ragan. Really Hawk, tell me and everyone here the truth!
Reason why I posted the comment about my trip is because I was on hold sitting on the back porch with my computer and want to see what was posted. If you look I posted VA information to help ALL VETs on another post about Steele. The comment was to Fiesty, probably thinking she probably understood based on her other posts, but it appears that it bothers and you wanted to comment on something you don't know about. But hey, post away.........but it does seem that it bothers you Should I be as miserable as you? (Smirking)
The percentage of people that do not like the HC bill plus the percentage of people that do not like the HC bill because """ the HC bill did not go far enough""" is much higher than fifty percent.
Im 57 and I have been conservative since I first voted and every election since!! BUT!!.... I will not vote for and incumbent in any Office! If we dont get an "ALL NEW" set of people ( lets find more "Joe the Plumbers" Ive heard he's a state Legislator now!! ) Common sense!! Get new senators on those committies that they control and get men/women that will buck the system and go to the media with Names of those "good ole boys" that give them trouble!! No more Senators being Rolled into the Senate because hes so old he cant walk in!! YES I'm Mad and all of us be MAD!!
Mad In Alabama/Florida
Micky
Mickey,
You had me at "vote incumbents out" and then you lost me at Vote for More Joe the Plumbers. I'm sorry but I refuse to throw my vote away on promoting stupidity and ineptitude. And yes, I do see the 'joke' in my post - but there really is something to the saying "...The devil you know...".
After reading most all of the comments posted, I wonder where most of these people get their information. For one thing, big corporations donate quite a lot of money to the Democrats. What about all the money the unions donate (guess which party, almost exclusively).Do they know that the Democrats controlled congress for the last 4years? Regarding the recession, there is plenty of blame to go around. Congress that encouraged Freddie Mack and Fanny Mae to buy up sub-prime mortages, Moody and Standard & Poors who gave investment grade to securities, the Federal Reserve who made money too plentiful, greedy mortgage companies who approved mortgages people couldn't afford, and greedy people who wanted too much!
Also, we don't have any real money --only base metal coins and promissary notes from the Federal Reserve.
Fannie and Freddie have been in existence for decades!!
bush was in charge for 8 years before the BIG MESS started. bush could have vetoed the bills coming from congress.
Onward and upward may be good, but let's not forget or overlook the past & the present. Before building new, the old must be preserved and fortified otherwise the future has no basis and will fail.
The Bill of Rights and the United States of America Constitution has given America that which is great and they must be preserved, what the failures are, are the failures of the men & women in government not abiding by them and doing the things they think are right, not doing the things laid out in these two important documents and by not adhearing to their principles have brought failure into America.
Like any business, failure to follow the business plan creates unknown problems, is that to say sometimes changes are not necessary? No. As with business plans changes are sometimes needed albiet within the origional outline of the plan. That is why the Constitution allows for amendments.
America's problem is now due to people who seek wealth and power at any cost and in order to do that the founding documents need to be set aside and rationalisian to justification has to enter the picture, this causes the problems we now see in America.
America has to return to the founding principles or America is lost in a socialistic decay.
May God save America.
Why is it that liberal states are in such a financial & social crisis and conservative states are much better off (balanced budgets or close to it and fewer social ills)? I say vote for the party that's delivery results! Aren't we after best practices and continuos improvement? Republicans are far from perfecto, but delivering the better results-see state government data!!! Liberals have good ideas, but no way to pay for them other than asking the Feds to flip the bill when they're worse off than the states!! Vote Republican-they're getting much better results! It's the 12th hour folks ( we're broke), we better get it right! Don't vote for tax evaders, womanizers, drunk or racist from either party! Anyone else had enough of the moral/ethics decline??
