On Monday, we pointed out this quote from Dino Rossi, the leading Republican to take on Washington state Sen. Patty Murray (D) in November:
"The idea of dragging home pork is an old-school measurement of a senator,’ said Republican Dino Rossi… ‘And right now, with Republicans and Democrats alike doing that, it's bankrupting America. There's nothing in the Constitution that says the job of a senator is bringing home pork."
Yet this new TV ad from Murray appears to be a response of sorts to that Rossi claim. Murray is essentially here, "Bringing home the pork also means bringing home -- and keeping -- jobs to your state."

That is an excellent retort. Patty Murray should have included that no where in the constitution does it mention Republicans should act like greedy hogs. I know it negative but it true of most Republicans.
A point for wonderfully continuing the pig metaphor.
As for the whole "pork" thing: It was probably good when the economy was stronger. But now that the economy has become a shadow of its former self, pork should definitely take a backseat to more sensible approaches to spending.
Good ad. I remember that airplane contract and was glad when Congress stopped it. I didn't like China making military uniforms and American flags either. We cannot continue shipping good, manufacturing jobs overseas and expect that the American people can afford to buy what companies produce.
I always find the "pork" barrel spending argument amusing to a certain extent (except the outrageous dollars spent on ridiculous things like the bridge to nowhere) because it apparently is only pork if it goes to another state. McCain prides himself on never taking pork dollars home, well, that's because Kyl makes sure AZ gets their fair share of pork.
You'd think that you send a senator to Washington to represent your state's interests. Having said that I don't understand why McCain thinks he's done a great job by not bringing home 'pork' for his state. Maybe if he had worked on bringing home some immigration pork, we wouldn't be wasting taxpayers money fighting a law that, while controversial (and to some degree illegal), wouldn't have been written
Pork is all in the eye of the beholder. If it is spending for MY area or MY project it is worthwhile spending but if it is for YOUR area it is pork. That's how it works.
Well said Jody. It seems like hypocrisy is rampant these days.
Right. Pork goes to another state and that's BAD! Bringing home the bacon is GOOD! Must be turkey bacon, 'cause, generally, bacon is PORK!!
